Nice bagel store on Great Neck main drag. Bagels were good as was the tuna and whitefish salad. There is seating indoors and one large table and one small table outside which was great to eat outdoors. Service was friendly. My main complaint is that they don't do baked goods at the store. That is they don't have their own desserts like you have at bagel boss. They have packaged pastries and muffins from zamacks, wrapped in sealed cellophane pkgs. ( don't get me wrong, I love zamacks). I had looked forward to a couple of ruggelah, but no luck . Also, they have no store made ice tea. Only bottled tea and juices in the refrigerator. Parking is on the street. read more

Bagel Mentch is my family's go-to sunday brunch spot. They have lots of seating, though it can get very crowded on the weekends.. I like their bagels with cream cheese, tomatoes, salmon, tuna salad, or chicken salad.. it is great but sometimes, they slather it on way too much and it becomes inedible. Their hot chocolates and coffees are too watered down, though. They also have fridges with juice drinks and a stand with chips, so I'll normally opt for an OJ. I must say that Bagel Mentch's management is great; a couple of years ago I was organizing a blood drive and Bagel Mentch donated 3 huge bags of bagels for donors and I thoroughly appreciated it. read more

Mediocre establishment. Took forever for counterpeople to understand our orders....scrambled egg on poppy bagel, regular bagel with butter on side and one scrambled egg. But they finally came. Then big deal to get plastic cutlery because they don't put them out. In whole place, maybe 15 tables, only one napkin holder had any napkins. Coffee was OK, not great. Just had the regular Green Mountain Vermont. They had a couple flavored varieties plus decaf. Place is clean. But not welcoming. Seems to have salads and done cheeses under the glass counter but as they're all wrapped under plastic, can't see them well. Gives impression of an old grandma's house. I never write bad reviews because I know it's especially hard for business now during covid. I was skeptical of ordering from this place because it has 2.5 stars and once you TRY to order you can see exactly why they got such a low score. I was doing an open house across the street and I wanted something quick, so I called in for a pick up bagel with lox spread, pretty simple. When I arrived later to pick up my food, I tried to go to the front of the line to get my order but was told to wait in the back. I'm absolutely starving so I didn't want to fuss. Stayed on the back of the line. The workers are all just joking around not providing any service. The line did not move for 15 mins and when the lady that was next said I'm next, the worker rudely told her that he had a customer and she had to wait, all the mean while still cracking jokes with other staff. I walked out after 20 mins because I was disgusted and still starving. Save yourself the frustration and just go somewhere else. read more

I recently used Bagel Mentch for a catering order. My itemized receipt didn't match the credit card charge, which was higher. I called to ask them about it, and was given a bunch of excuses. First, the guy told me it was tax that the credit card company charges (lie). Then, he said it was delivery charge ($15 delivery was already listed on the itemized receipt). I was then told another excuse, which I can't remember, and didn't make sense. Ultimately, I was told it would be investigated and I'd receive a phone call back with an explanation/refund. Absolutely disgusting and rude management!!! I got delivery that I ordered from Grubhub, and on Grubhub it gave me an option to add fruit to my waffle for an extra two dollars. When I received my order and saw they did not add the fruit, I called to let them know and immediately the man on the phone jumped down my throat about how they do not have fruit in the store. I said ok that would have been fine but why wouldn't anybody call to tell me instead of continuing to charge me the extra two dollars. He yelled at me on the phone and told me I would need to call Grubhub that it's not his problem, and hung the phone up on me. Bagel Mentch... yea, it's menchkite enough, and my dad really digs it, but from an ex-pat NYer, it's nothing special. It is however Glatt Kosher, and in the ever-changing face of Great Neck, this is a almost a necessity. I come to Bagel Mentch a few times a year and I swear, it always looks exactly the same, even the stuff in the display cases (like the salads) never seems to change... but I'm sure that's not the case as everything does look fresh. I keep it simple and just get a toasted bagel and veggie cream cheese (I'm easy to please) but they make a variety of egg dishes that look pretty good. Here is the deal point, it's cheaper to get a bagel and whitefish salad sandwich than a bagel and a side of whitefish salad, even though the side is less than what's on the sandwich... go figure? They have a grip of coffee dispensers with a variety of Vermont Mountain coffees to choose from. There are at least 3 creamer choices, and some extra kosher creamers by request. Seems there are more and more exotic flavors of coffee than you can imagine, today there was Gingerbread coffee... no comment - but I'm a purist in this capacity, however. The bagels are ok. Their salads and schmears are ok. Everything here is ok, not amazing and not horrible. The macaroni salad, ok that was horrible - not sure if they used whole wheat pasta or sugar instead of salt but in my book, inedible. The counter staff is helpful, albeit sometimes they are distracted by other patrons they know and carry on a rapport with, but overall nice enough. Our counter dude today was cool, he managed to keep up with my dad's rambling style of ordering and gave me an understanding wink; he knew I knew that it wasn't an easy order, but he followed it all and got it right. Thanks man! I guess this review sounds like a backhanded compliment to the Bagel Mentch, but I've always felt that you gotta have a hook, or do something amazing, to be successful in business. I guess in Great Neck, being Glatt Kosher is good enough, especially since there are several other bagel stores in either direction, but I go to the Mentch cause my dad likes it, and that's all that matters to me. Ordered a bagel with tofu cream cheese there was hardly anything on the bagel it's as if they used the last scraps on the bagel. Also put it in the same bag with a buttered bagel and the butter got all over, I'm vegan and could only eat the top part of one half of the bagel that didn't touch the butter. read more

To be a successful restaurant you must claim 2 of the most important skills 1- Good service 2- Good food You CANNOT offer 1 or the other, but Bagel Mentch does. Bagel Mentch offers the food, but the service is non existent. Worst part is there is no wait service, just counter service. They are rude, sometimes obnoxious and generally un-friendly. I asked for cheese on my sandwich, the guy threw some precut up cheese on the sandwich. I guess I was expecting more like a freshly cut slice or two. What a fantastic little bagel shop in Great Neck, NY! I walked in to grab a quick breakfast and found some freshly made bagels and a great assortment of schmears to go with! The bagel was definitely up to the New York standard, and they also had a lot of great fish and salads to put on top of them. I'd definitely recommend this one if you're in the area. I was placed on hold and passed around and nobody seemed to know what i am talking about The manager could barely speak english and didnt even understand what Seamless is. He said that nobody at the store checks emails if the owner is not there. Acted like it was not his problem and just hung up on when i wanted to know what is to be done. He is rude and condescending. This was by far one of the most awful experiences I have ever had. Thankfully seamless refunded my money and gave me credit for my experience. I would never order from this place again. The staff is always very rude and ordering delivery from them is a nightmare. I have ordered on Yelp via Grubhub several times. Multiple times I have received orders with dairy cream-cheese when I specifically ordered nondairy tofu (I cannot eat dairy). The order arrived on time but was missing the nova lox for a couple of bagels that we asked to be put on the side. I called Bagel Mentch and they quickly sent over the missing nova lox, and a lot of it. We were expecting to have a problem but were very happy that they did the right thing. This place has probably the most horrific and obnoxious staff of any place I've ever been a customer at. They have horrible attitudes, yell at their customers, and make the entire experience being there a disaster. I would rather travel 15 minutes farther and go to another kosher bagel establishment (ehem bagel boss). The lady Leila and the short man with the arm tattoos are the absolute worst. You're better off not eating a bagel than going there and dealing with their nasty attitudes. Leila acts as if she's doing you a favor by taking your order and you're a burden on her. Fresh bagels, good egg sandwiches (make sure you emphasize salt and pepper if desired), love the salads. Prices on par with similar establishments. The service was terrible, the person who took my order messed up twice getting it right. It took about 15 min to just to get a bagel with cream cheese to go. The hot coco was disgusting and I threw it out after one sip. not only that when it was time to pay for it it took another 5 mins and the person behind the counter rang me a price of $5.85 and after I paid said sorry it's more $7.00 which I felt what a rip off for a bagel and cream cheese and a cup of hot coco. Bagel Mentch at 176 Middle Neck Rd. is fabulous! I emailed them from Vancouver, Canada, as I needed them to cater a small lunch in Great Neck, Long Island for some of my family. Really last minute, and they said of course they would take care of it, and delivered it, before 10:00am on Sunday morning! My kids there rave about the scallion cream cheese and smoked salmon cream cheese. Bagels are so good, they just wanted assorted - they are all great. They were in touch with me right away, and took care of everything I needed from across the continent. They made it so easy for me, and were kind about it as well. I would highly recommend them! I called two weeks prior to my baby shower to order from their catering menu they had online. I confirmed with the person taking the order it was breakfast order #2 at $6.25 per person and said that I wasn't sure exactly how many people would be attending until it got closer to the date. He confirmed the $6.25 per person and then asked how many people. I tentatively said 15 since that was the minimum. The man taking the order said no problem and to call on the Friday before the shower to confirm exactly how many. On the Friday before my shower I called as requested and confirmed the count to 20 people. The man who answered took my confirmation of 20 people and then asked for my credit card twice. Before giving him the number I asked for how much he would be charging. He then told me $50 more than had originally be agreed upon in the initial order. When I asked why he said that it is $8 per person. When I told him the website says $6.25 he said no and that the fees have gone up. I reminded him that I had confirmed this price when placing the order two weeks ago and he very rudely said "no the price has gone up." He continued to be rude and talk over me while I was trying to explain that I had JUST CONFIRMED the price with someone less than two weeks ago. I was really turned off by their lack of business etiquette and will never recommend anyone to use this "restaurant". It felt more like dealing with a car salesman than a restaurant. Thankfully, I was able to get an even better deal with better customer service at a different restaurant. If you are catering an event don't go with Bagel Mentch. I came to visit my parents one week and was reminded of the horrors of Bagel Mentch: that horrible hispanic lady who works behind the counter. She is rude, mean, degrading, unfriendly, never smiles and always looks like she is doing you a favor. And she yells at you like you are a piece of cattle. Babe, you work in a bagel store, all you have to do is smile at your customers. Why are you always so unhappy and miserable? When you're this miserable, you make everyone else miserable. Bagel Mentch had the freshest sunflower bagels and as well as flat bagels They had a all sorts of cream cheese, 3 or 4 kind of tuna - i recommend the Dill Tuna and 2 different kinds of side salad As well the had an FREE WIFI INTERNET signal which I was able to accomplish my work. Bagel mensch is more like bagel thief. Placed a catering order for an event and was quoted a price. Day of event my card was overcharged. Called and spoke to manager and he refuted that he gave me such price. But here's the kicker, the delivery person came to deliver the order and left the entire $300 order outside the door of the synagogue leaving me to set up the food the day of my daughters baby naming. Also they didn't include bialys which was part of the package listed in their catering menu which by the way is not up to date from years back. I recently used Bagel Mentch for a corporate breakfast and they were AMAZING!. David and his team were so professional and extremely friendly. They arrived right on time, assisted with the set up and stayed around for a while to make sure everything was perfect. The assortment of Bagels, Danishes, and spreads were so fresh, everyone loved it. We received so many compliments on the breakfast. I rarely write yelp reviews but felt compelled to after the wonderful job Bagel Mentch did catering my son's bris. Having just come home with a new born I felt already overwhelmed and was worried about planning a great menu that would impress both my husband's and my family. I spent just 10 minutes on the phone with Dave discussing some ideas and the result was above and beyond my expectations. Both families and the guests commented throughout the meal how delicious and fresh the fishes, spreads and salads were. The hot items served were fantastic as well. Several friends who visited my home in the days following all asked if we had any left overs from the bris! It's too bad I had to share with them because I was hoping to just eat them all myself.
