Came here on a Friday. Lots of parking in the back. Lots of seating too even though they probably mostly do takeout. Owner was nice. Let us try Tabokki which was good. It was very soft and not too spicy. Kids liked the Spam daebop and the spicy pork cupbop. Found the beef soy one a bit too sweet. We were all super full after. Location/Service This place is right in the intersection of Bayview/Major Mac, but it is in a smaller plaza right across the high school. It is a little tricky to access the plaza, but there is actually plenty of parking behind the store front that no one never realizes. Inside is pretty big, a lot of tables available to dine-in. You can have it to-go as well, which I seem to see it's like that most of the time. The owner, Peter, is a very nice guy. He explains all the items very clearly, provides good recommendation and makes sure you feel welcomed and enjoys the food. Food This place specializes cupbop - which actually is a classic staple street style food in Korean. It's kind of like a bibimbap, something you add together and mix it up. But cupbop usually also have macaroni salad, stir fried kimchi and a choice of protein like spam, pork, beef. It is a very hearty bowl, definitely good portion size and filling. And it's only $12.99 - that's pretty affordable in this current economy. Besides cupbop, they have street style Korean snacks like their toast, skewers and I think they started doing tteokbokki too. Tip: When you're driving northbound on Bayview Avenue, you'll need to do a u-turn, as you can't make a direct left turn to get to this eatery. A Yelp experience roughly a month ago introduced me to Baegopa. I loved the experience so much that I have since returned for the drinks. Baegopa means hungry. Your hunger gets tamed here. This place is known for its cupbop, which is a Korean-style rice bowl. When you are driving northbound on Bayview Avenue, you can't do a left turn into the plaza in which this eatery is. I had to do a u-turn further north and then hang a right into this plaza. I found a parking spot near the entrance facing Bayview Avenue. Baegopa also has a back entrance with more parking available at the back. I noticed a cupbop challenge posted on the window. Eat 2.5 kilograms of it in twenty minutes and it's free if you finish it all. Um, nope. The man handling the entire operation was kind and helpful. He guided me through the entire cupbop ordering process. I got to choose a protein (beef, chicken, or pork) first. I went with beef. I could then choose if I wanted it spicy or regular. I asked how spicy the spicy was. He said that it wasn't spicy. It had a slight kick to it. I said yes. I went with a Coke zero. He said that he'd be back. He went into the kitchen to prepare my order. It didn't take long for my order to be ready. He asked me if I wanted to dine in or do takeout. I went with the former. He put my food on a tray and said that I should mix everything together before eating it. I thanked him, got some cutlery and napkins, and found a table towards the back of the eatery to chow down. There is a lone washroom stall that is wheelchair-accessible. The button to open the door worked. However, the button inside the single stall did not automatically close the door. You have to shut the door and lock it manually. The washroom was relatively clean. The huge garbage bin was full of paper towel used to dry hands. The lone male staffer had a lot to balance on his own. Clearing out this garbage bin would likely be the last thing he was concerned about. I sat down to chow down. I mixed my bowl of macaroni salad, beef, sauce, soft-cooked egg, kimchi, and rice. I then dug in. This bowl was delicious! I loved the runny egg that oozed all over everything as I did the mixing. I loved all the flavours mingling and making my tastebuds dance. The macaroni salad had corn in it, which made my day. Carbs are comforting. The fact that there was both macaroni and rice was wonderful. I did have a concern about driving home with a lot of carbs in me. I made it home safely! The Coke zero was cold and washed everything down. It was the perfect drink. I love the yuzu lemonade. Yuzu is a citrusy fruit. It's like a slightly sweeter lemon. I like large drinks. This place offer this yuzu lemonade in a one-litre format. Yay! I tend to get this drink with 25% sugar and less ice. It's slightly sweet and so refreshing. This place offers a SPAM mayo deobop. I'd like to order it next time because I'm such a SPAM fan. It's comforting food. I have always ordered at this eatery. Once inside and u see the menu you know it's full of good comfort food. BAEGOPA means I'm hungry. And this place specializes in CUPBOP. Korean style rice bowl. They offer a variety of options like Spicy Beef, Sweet Soy Pork, and a Spam Mayo Deopbop. Each bowl typically includes a base of rice, meat, stir-fried kimchi, macaroni salad, and a fried egg on top. I happened upon this place as I was in the area and the bright yellow sign drew me in. The place is small but functional and pretty obviously geared towards eat and go and not a full sit down date night place. Upon entering I was pleasantly greeted by the rep and ordered a beef cup bap. This came either spicy or non spicy, a fried sunny side up egg, beef (of course) a pasta salad topping and something I can't quite tell kim chi like. Before leaving I was instructed to make sure to mix everything together for the best taste and while it's not gourmet it definitely fills your tummy and doesn't taste heavy. I also noticed that they have a good challenge! I got to come back and give it a try. Ordered this on Doordash. It has been on the top of the list of recommended for a bit and it seemed to have good reviews on Doordash. They made the food relatively quickly, no fault of theirs for a longer delivery time. Unfortunately, I cannot comment on the ambiance since I didn't pick up the order. The bowl seemed small but it was filling. I got the chicken cupbop. The sauce I chose was soy bulgogi and I asked for a fully cooked egg. They put a message saying it tastes best to be mixed so I did just that. The bottom is plain rice. Then next layer is plain macaroni. On top was the kimchi, cubed chicken breast (I think, didn't look like the dark meat portion like the thigh), egg and a drizzle of the sauce. I had a few bone pieces in the chicken. I was a little confused because I was under the impression that it was macaroni and cheese (from the comments that I was seeing). Maybe I didn't have a lot of sauce. Once I mixed everything in, the kimchi was the strongest in flavour. Overall, more on the bland side for me. I don't seem to see this option on Baegopa's website for the menu. Stopped by and tried Baegopa. Specializing in bulgogi cup baps, bulgogi on top of a bed of rice, kimchi, macaroni and an over easy egg. Personally, wasn't a huge fan, as I found their bulgogi was flavourful, but lacking in the quality of meat. I think it was more along the ground beef, type meat, instead of real bulgogi quality. I ordered spicy, bulgogi cupbap topped with all the sauces, spicy mayo, soy ... it was good but I find that the flavours with a little bland after a while. I was recommended to mix the bowl. Tried the pork cupbop which was pretty good. It was actually on the sweet side even with the kimchi, so those who prefer a bit of a kick might prefer the spicy pork instead. The toppings go very well together and the portions are actually quite generous. The bowl can definitely serve as a meal and not just a snack. I wanted to try something from my usual choices, but I follow a Keto diet. The menu looked a reasonable option, but some substitutions would be needed. They were very accommodating. I ordered the Spicy Pork Cupbop, but asked if the rice and mac & cheese could be replaced with some more kimchi. That was no problem, and they even added a little extra meat as well. When asked if I wanted an egg on top, I said yes as egg is great for Keto. They gave me two. The food was fantastic, and I need to go back to try the other Cupbop choices.
