Our server, H.S., should in no way shape or form be a server. Her entire approach and demeanor was incredibly caustic. Her attitude towards guests was severely antagonistic. And I hated that she kept reminding us how much time we had left for our table. 1 hour, 45 minutes, 30 minutes... demonstrates this business (dive) doesn't care about guest experience... only turning tables. Several yelp reviewers mentioned how loud it gets. It does get loud, very loud, especially when a certain server cackles from across the room... like a hideous witch. Thought the menu was decent enough but lacked a little. Ordered the pasta... typically a safe bet as this place is in a dank basement and no telling about their food safety. Wrong. Pasta was waaay overcooked. Do they not sample their food? Who allowed this mush to be served?! Overall horrible experience. Will never set foot in Rough Rider again. In fact, my dinner experience was so bad I'm making it a point to tell everyone to avoid this disaster.

This is very cool joint with a dark feel too it. They have a basement bar which we ventured into and they also have an upstairs bar as well, so you can fit a lot of drunk People in there. It also features a lot of great art that fits really highlights the Mexican bar vibe. The waitress/bar tender/ agave expert was very welcoming and know a lot about their tequilas and mescal option. I love me some smokey mescal, I dont remember thet name of the drink but it had some kind of elote triple sec or something like that along with Mescal and it was quite tasty. Trust me I was in no state to remember ingredients but this is from my foggy memory. I also got a pick of the cool ice blocks that has an Agave inlay that they put in the tumbler with your drink. I will definitely be going back for their wide Mescal and tequila options. I didn't see food in the bar, but they have a food truck out front that smelled amazing, but sometimes I simply dont want to eat when there are plenty of drinks to be had. They do have Esquites, Tacos, Quesadillas, Mini Chimis, and loaded fries. I will have to do another review on the food when I am not out being a borracho. They do take reservations and host private parties which would make for one raucous Christmas party if you don't work at a Christ loving conservative company like me. You can also order bottles of mescal and pick it up on location which is pretty awesome as especially after trying out the selection. Happy hour is every weekday that they are open to try out some of their cocktails. This is a great option to impress your tinder date if you are a lush like me pr want to show of your sophisticated drinker side.

During our brief stay, we saw a couple get into a heated altercation before storming out (drama!!) but it was nice to see a few of the service workers go out and check on them to make sure things didn't escalate. We stayed in the indoor portion, so we didn't really explore the DJ area, but this place was packed on a Friday evening (~10:30pm) and folks seemed to be enjoying themselves! I will also note this place is efficient -- almost to the point of making you feel like they want you gone. The minute my sister finished her drink, the bartender scooped it up. That said, the efficiency is also quite appreciated because a server broke a glass right next to our table and within 2 minutes it was cleaned up!

The sausage & broccolini pasta had good overall flavor with a decent kick of heat, though it leaned a little too heavy on the salt. The miso and lemon pepper wings were both fine, typical wings. My glass of wine tasted flat, so that was a bit of a letdown. Surprisingly though, the highlight drink of the night was my date's IPA. I don't even like IPAs, but it was genuinely delightful! Since the restaurant doesn't seem to have a designated lot, parking downtown can be a gamble. I got lucky and found a street meter for just $1.20/hour. However, my date ended up in the private lot directly behind the building and that was a $33 charge for 3 hours! Just a heads-up to think about about parking options ahead. Overall is was a decent date night experience.

I went to Phoenix last week for a conference, but if I'm being truthful, a big part of the trip was…read morereally about catching up with friends. I scored a free ticket; I can fly pretty cheaply thanks to my wife's flight benefits, so why not? Since I wasn't even sure I was going until a few days before, I hadn't RSVP'd for any of the usual conference dinners or after-hours events. My original plan was pretty simple. Hang out at the hotel, grab something at the bar, relax. Then the opportunity came up to have dinner with two good friends I hadn't seen in more than a year. Conference event? Or actual quality time with friends? Easy decision. We headed over to Industry Standard. One of my friends had wisely made a reservation online, which definitely helped. We were seated right away, although shortly after sitting down we learned they needed our table/section for a larger group. No biggie. We moved and carried on. Our server got drinks going quickly. I stuck with water, while one of my friends had the Pretty In Peach cocktail and gave it the thumbs-up. The menu looked really good. Two of us went with the Poke Bowl, while the odd woman out ordered the Caesar Salad with chicken. Sounds pretty basic, right? Apparently not. She said it was really, really good. She also ordered the Confit Tomatoes as an appetizer. Funny enough, those arrived a few minutes after our entrées because there was apparently a little confusion about whether they were an appetizer or part of someone's meal. Again, not a big deal. We were there to catch up, not run a stopwatch. As for my poke bowl, I'll admit I was slightly concerned about the portion size. Poke bowls can sometimes fall into that "small bowl, big price" category. Not here. It was a surprisingly large portion, very tasty, and had a nice little bit of spice to it. Definitely exceeded expectations. And because apparently dinner wasn't enough, we finished by sharing the cookie skillet with ice cream. Solid decision. Very good. Service throughout the night was excellent, although I unfortunately can't remember our server's name. Sorry, my dude. You did a great job! The restaurant itself is fairly small inside, although they do have outdoor seating. Of course, when it's roughly 110 degrees in Phoenix in August, eating outside isn't really my thing. So if you're planning to go and want to sit indoors, I'd definitely recommend making a reservation. Good food, great service, and even better company. In the end, skipping the big conference after-hours scene for a relaxed dinner with old friends was absolutely the right call.

There is paid parking nearby,…read morebut it definitely is better to come a little earlier to scope out the parking situation and get that sorted before your reservation. My party and I had a reservation on a Saturday night at 9pm (when it's 13 people, what can you do). What kind of sucked though (and mainly why I'm deducting a star) is that we did wait an additional half hour to be seated after our reservation time. Our theory is that they didn't think the entire party would actually arrive, and they were not ready to accommodate us. To be fair, the restaurant IS on the smaller side, but there was 0 communication during that half hour on what was going on... which isn't really good for us either. We got the original set, and this somewhat confused me as well. The food was really good, and was definitely a restaurant that I'd go to for the experience, but for some reason some of the meats were doubled while others weren't. The double portions were really nice since our party was so large, we needed to split the food between 4 different grills (so each table got 2 grills each, feeding 6-7 people in total or 3-4 people per grill), but then we had to share the portions where we only got one serving. It wasn't bad, but to me, didn't make sense. The food was really good though; I didn't care too much about the soup, but the green sauce was SO good. Mixing a little with the soup was incredible. I thought the beef and pork were really good. I personally left the restaurant full, but many others in my party did not. I think it's a really good amount of food for 2 people, but when you push to 3+, you probably do not want to come hungry. Also--the live music at Pemberton next door is SO LOUD, you're going to be shouting at your table the entire night when you sit outside. I think I would come back if I wanted to show this place to someone who didn't live here, but it isn't on the top of my list for when I'm trying to eat out, but I will definitely consider this for special date night occasions. It is extremely expensive for what it is though. For $70+ you risk the chance of leaving not full which SUCKS.
