I am loving all the bagel spot options in Seattle right now. The coolest part is how they are all different from each other in terms of the kind of bagel they make in terms of style, density, and flavors. One of my top 5 bagel shops in the city is Backyard Bagel. I am a fan of the "fluffiness" of their bagel. For a filling, I tend to choose salmon lox. However, my new go to here is their Tomato Tomato which is open-faced and simply divine!!! It's 2 huge and juicy tomato steaks placed on top of cream cheese spread and the bagel if your choice. I'm a salty gal and always choose the Salted Bagel option. OMG!!! It's so mouthwatering and my favorite sandwich at Backyard Bagel. Try it today if you love Tomatoes. They have some indoor and outdoor seating. Street parking only. Check their hours online before coming here as they have pretty short open hours. read more

Continuing our quest to try all of the bagel spots in the Seattle area, we hit up Backyard Bagel on a quiet Saturday morning. It was early enough that we were able to walk up and order straight away. We shared an everything and sea salt bagel with scallion cream cheese. The everything bagel was warm with great depth of flavor, 5 stars. The sea salt had a good flavor but wasn't warm (not sure if warm for any of the bagels is normal or random) and that brought the review down slightly. Nice ambiance and good seating. It was busier with a bit of a line as we were leaving. Parking was easy but I could see it being a challenge as the day goes on. read more

I've only heard great things about Backyard Bagel, and finally got the chance to venture up to this area of Fremont to try it! I got an everything bagel with lox and red onions. Delicious local bagel spot! So cute inside! Their menu is simplistic but solid. I had the everything bagel with the spicy scallion cream cheese and the jalapeno cheese bagel with the regular scallion cream cheese. The spicy scallion has like real kick to it from the real chili they put inside. It has an interesting umami taste. The regular scallion cream cheese is so refreshing it has an interesting airy grainy texture that is delicious. Usually sun starved folks venture out and it's that sweet spot before closing. I happen to visit a nearby bookstore and Backyard Bagel was midway back to my car (4/13/25). I used to live next door to Bagel Oasis in Ravenna. I've tried out Eltana, Zylberschtein's, Rubinstein, Oxbow, Mt. Bagel, Toasted, and now have the opportunity to check out Backyard Bagel. I kept it pretty basic - one plain bagel, halved with a scallion schmear for $5.50. Strictly no toasting available. I decided to dine onsite, look closely at the menu, and featured merch. Service from purchase to preparation was efficient and pleasant. Definitely a major step over grocery store dense bagel weaponry or ginormous meh bagels from Costco. Went out of my way to come here to get a lox bagel based off of the reviews and I was impressed. I did come here pretty late considering that they close in the early afternoon. Because of that, I wasn't able to try the Everything bagel. I got sesame instead (and it was last one unfortunately). It was a bit pricey honestly, but very good. I was violently craving a bagel last night and decided to come here on a whim today! I wasn't sure if I should be expecting a line but I came in the afternoon and there was no wait. Inside is very cute and clean, good amount of seating from their back patio to the front of the store. I came here specifically for the Ballard Lox sandwich ($16) and it did not disappoint!! Got it on their everything bagel, the bagel itself had a good outer crust but still soft and bouncy on the inside. Flavors were spot on, the pickled red onions and cucumbers gave it such a nice freshness. 10/10 would definitely get again I also bought some bulk for home, 3 bagels and an 8oz schmear for $16. Service here is friendly. The space is fairly large, but the actual customer seating space is small. It's a clean and pleasant space. Bagel sandwiches are good. Some unusual combos, but good flavor (not bombshell great, but good). Bagels are some of the best around the region. Top 4, maybe 3 for certain. Not too big and not too small, with a little tear resistance on the outside and fluffyish interior. Two things I didn't like were that the everything mix is very garlic-heavy, and its sesame seeds are just okay; it also has too much salt. On the other hand, the salted doesn't have enough salt. So, odd. Neither is a big deal, and these are still great bagels. Schmears are tasty, and the non-traditional, more creative ones are better than the more traditional flavors. In fact, some of the standard ones are good but not great. And there is no lox schmear. This is one of four or five bagel places in the region that I would drive an hour to get to, especially to carry out a baker's dozen bagels. It's one of the three or four in Seattle proper like that. This place is definitely one of the best bagels I've had in the Seattle area!! They have a decent variety of bagel and smear flavors, and the coffee is good but not anything special. Pretty often there's a line outside but it tends to move pretty quick, in the handful of times I've been here I have never waiting more than 20 minutes (but maybe that'll get better now that they opened the new location in Laurelhurst!). We heard some stuff about this place, so we came by for a later morning breakfast. We were near Fremont so why not. Place is off Fremont Ave so street or neighborhood parking it is. Located at the bottom of an apartment building. It's a smaller place with a few tables and ledge to eat at. A few tables outside but it was rainy out. Wasn't much of a line when we got there so we had time to check out the menu. Menu isn't large but good enough to find something to go with. I decided to get the Combo (Bagel & Schmear and add a coffee). I got the Everything Bagel with plain cream cheese and a Cold Brew. We also got the Brooklyn bagel sandwich too. Not NY style, but still good. Nice chew and flavoring, freshly made and good amount of schmear given. Cold Brew is limited so they may run out. Lox on the Brooklyn was nice, good sandwich to check out. Staff was friendly and helpful, took only a few minutes or so to get my name called. By the time our bagels were ready, luckily a table opened up for us. Prices are what we thought it would be. Nice ambience for a chill breakfast. I was in the area for lunch and decided that I might as well visit Backyard Bagel as well after reading about their Scallion Pancake Bagel special. I figured that it would be a quick in-and-out pickup, but boy was I wrong. This was a Saturday morning, with the temperatures barely above freezing, and it had just started to snow. Yet there was a 25 person strong long line, out the building and down the block! The line moved at a decent pace, taking about 20 minutes before I was inside and ordering. 3 Bagels + 8oz Schmear ($15.50): For my three bagels, I chose Scallion Pancake (weekly special), Everything, and Sesame: Scallion Pancake Bagel - Nice blistered crust with just a bit of a hard shell, giving way into a wonderfully chewy interior. I wasn't expecting much of the scallion pancake flavor, but it surprisingly really is reminiscent of cong you bing (CYB). It first starts with a mature bready kind of flavor mixed with scallion fragrance. Some pockets of salt are strewn throughout, resulting in a scallion flavor explosion, very similar to how a homemade CYB acts. There are plenty of sesame seeds on top, developed into an almost sesame oil like flavor with a tiny bit of sweetness. Since the bagel obviously can't be fried, it's missing some of the flavors associated with frying, but that can't be helped. At the end of the day, It's a much better reminder of CYB than I ever thought it would be. (5/5) Everything Bagel- Generous amount of sesame seed, poppy seed, garlic, onion, black sesame, covered equally on top and bottom and on the sides. Adheres pretty well, giving the whole flavor profile in each bite. Another delicious bagel (5/5) Sesame Bagel- Not much else to say. Good, evenly spread sesame seeds on all bagel faces, combined with a nice crust and a chewy interior. (5/5) For the schmear, I went with the scallion: Scallion Schmear - This schmear seems to be whipped but still remains quite thick. There's a good scallion flavor mixed with the cream cheese tang. I found it to be a little on the gritty side rather than being smooth. I'm not sure what causes that, but it's a little worse in mouthfeel than some other schmears. (4/5) I originally visited Backyard Bagel also hoping to get an Jalapeno Cheddar bagel but they had just run out and I didn't have time to wait for the next batch. It's a great excuse to visit again in the near future. read more

Loved backyard bagel! Quick service, good coffee options, good bagels! We're new to Seattle and so far are happy with how abundant bagels are. Backyard was our first stop. I got the Ballard lox. The taste of the bagel was great, the lox was incredibly fresh, great cream cheese. Taste wise, this was one of the best lox sandwiches I've had. Texture wise... they need some help. We're from the east coast and my wife ran a bagel shop for a period of time. The bagels were a little too soft, didn't have quite as much bouncy or chewy texture as we'd prefer, but this is getting super nitpicky. Came here multiple times now, maybe once every other week! Consistently the bagels are amazing and hot with a generous amount of cream cheese. I love their seasonal or weekly flavors. Their cinnamon raisin cream cheese is so good - sweet and dreamy! This week, I've had their new flavor, scallion pancake bagel! That was so amazing and probably one of my favorites so far - it has some savory taste from scallion and sesame seeds, and slightly sweet from the soy mirin glaze! To die for! The best bagels I've had in Seattle, hands down! There's been a lot of hype about this location and it 100% lives up to it. The service is fast and friendly, and there is limited seating inside. I ordered the Ballard Lox sandwich and it was perfection. The bagel was simultaneously fluffy and crunchy, and the fillings worked so well together. Really solid bagel spot! Expect a line on weekend mornings and friendly service once you make it inside. I'm very picky about bagels and I feel like the local scene is overall lacking, but I enjoyed my bagel here and will be back. The crust and inside has really good texture. I had the fall fig schmear (seasonal) which was excellent. Oh and the bagels are served fresh and warm. I said I'm picky, so my main beef here is the size. I need that bagel to be just a bit bigger. I get it--bagels might need to be $3 a pop in this economy, and I'm totally cool for shelling out more cash to over stuff myself with some carbs. I would skip the garden party sandwhich and go for just the bagel/schmear or another sandwich. The guac tasted like it was premade in a container. The goat cheese carried the bagel. They have seating area in front of the restaurant and a cute area in the back with space heaters. There was a small line when we got there but it moved really fast and they have umbrellas by the door in case there is rain, which is so thoughtful! It seems to be a pretty popular spot, when I got there around 10 am there was a line out the door with about like 5 people infront of me. The line does go very fast tho. The place is super cute, a few tables to shit and they have a bar table thing facing the window to people watch which is super cute. The cashier and the service in general was very very nice and friendly. The coffee was done immediately after we finished paying as they started on the order as soon as they heard us say it. Overall, I thought it was fine. Def wouldn't go out of my way for it but it was fine, prices aren't crazy, people are nice and it's cute. I'd give it another shot tho Iced vanilla latte - 4/10 : we both thought this coffee was subpar and and two of us shared the coffee and we still didn't finish it, very sad bc the guy who made our coffee was really nice Cali crisp - 6/10 - I didn't like the corn on it at first but it grew on me, ended up being refreshing. However I didn't taste the chili crisp at all, to the point both of us were looking in our bagel to see if it was even there. I still don't know and I'm disappointed about that. We got it with an everything bagel, I think the bagel was solid Jalapeño cheddar bagel with a hot honey smear: 7/10 . I think it was good, I thought the hot honey smear tasted like like a fancier and better version of canned cheese (compliment). I didn't get a strong jalapeño cheddar taste from the bagel but maybe that's just bc the smear was stronger flavor, I did try to take bites of just bagel but not strong flavor. read more

I went in at around 9am Sunday morning and there was a short line, took only a couple of minutes and then a couple of more minutes to get my bagel. I did notice that there was a longer line when leaving (people had to be lined up outside the door). FYI look for the "Fresh Bagel" sign to find the place Bagel was very good! I do have to say the sea salt bagel was so salty I couldn't finish it, but this could be more of a personal preference thing. I would come back to try different flavors, but probably will not try the sea salt again. read more

Mmmmm! The bagels here are sooooo fresh and delicious! Crackley crisp outside and soft inside combo is the best! They give you the perfect amount of cream cheese on the inside too! The staff is super friendly and quick. It gets really busy here so the earlier you come the better! There is limited seating inside and outside so keep that in mind. After frequenting their booth at the Ballard farmers market, I was really excited to check out their new store. There was a line when I got there on Wednesday but it moved pretty quickly. The staff was really friendly despite being so busy. They have plenty of seating indoors and few tables outside. I got the Cali Crisp and mocha. My sandwich was excellent, I love the combination of chili crunch and avocado. Their bagels are always top notch, perfectly crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. 4.5 stars to be exact on the knathan-knows-best bagel scale. I think this is my fave spot in Seattle for fresh, warm, gooey interior, crunchy exterior bagels. Runner up to Whidbey Bagels and Mount Bagel in Cap hill. The very nit-picky deets for me are the schmears are not my fave- a texture that is a little stiffer than I prefer, the plain is not the best- but flavored ones are worth trying. I got the scallion once and it was my fave. But still...just kinda not my fave. Another ding (for me) would be the lack of sweet options- no cinn/raisin or berry options, which for the morn and for kids can be a good alternative. However their jalapeño cheddar is AMAZING- one of the best I've had. Great crisp on the bottom and the right amount of heat with the jalapeños- sometimes I feel like the heat is given a back seat in other bagel places, but they let it shine. The sesame is a star bagel- with a great salty accent. The everything is not my fave, I love burnt onions, but I feel like the ratio is a little heavy for my liking - not as balanced. The interior is hopping, clean, and the staff are always friendly and moving the line. Parking sucks, bc it's Fremont. But I can't know them too much for that. read more

It's super light and airy on the inside and soft on the outside. Wish it was a baked a little more well done and had a chewier bite. I got the Brooklyn on everything bagel for $14. It's a lined down version of the Ballard lox sandwich. Decent amount of lox and schmear. I also got a sea salt bagel with the spicy scallion schmear. With it had more scallion of less spice cause it was hard to taste anything other than the spice. Overall, 3.5. Not quite the bagel I wanted, but will do in a pinch. The search continues.
