This was an amazing find. We were just travelling through Panguitch and stopped to check it out. The little unassuming shop had minimalist decor, bottled drinks in a fridge, and the day's specials written on a chalkboard so had no real expectations good or bad. We ended up getting the beer battered mushrooms as an appetizer with a chili ranch sauce. These weren't the little breaded freezer button mushrooms that you'd often see, they were fresh chopped meaty white mushrooms in a beer batter that reminded me of the one my dad used to make, and we got a huge serving. I'm not even generally a fan of ranch but the chili ranch was so tasty I snuck a spoonful, something I don't usually do. My wife and son each ordered the Cuban sandwich with Cajun chips, I got Thai green curry pasta, and my daughter ordered the herbed chicken breast with lemony mashed potatoes. Every single entree was great; the amount of attention they clearly pay to flavor and preparation is evident in everything. Nothing was gimmicky; Sri racha aolili on a Cuban sammy sounds like an instagram gastropub move, but it totally works because whoever designed the recipe understood what makes/ can make it all work together. The proprietor/staff are friendly and attentive but not at all intrusive, the locals seem chill and friendly too, and the classic blues on the stereo (Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy) helped make this a very nice place to pass the time during our meal. But more importantly, you get such a strong feel that this is run by people who love good food and take care and pride in what they do. This place was awesome. We stopped here for lunch after our family trip to Bryce. We are from Northern California and were initially a little nervous being obvious out of towners in this little Utah town. We didn't need to be! They were so welcoming and kind to us and our kids. It is just 2 people working there and right after we walked in several other groups came as well, so the food took a little bit of time. Some people were really rude about it and snooty and left, one jerk even just stood next to his table staring down the waitress/hostess who was working her butt off to get everyone's orders prepared...but those of us who waited were rewarded with a super delicious lunch, huge portions and very reasonably priced. Everything we had was homemade and fresh, highly recommend this place if you have a little bit of time, or several locals called in take out if you don't want to wait. read more

This is a small town and you have to moderate your expectations accordingly. I almost gave this restaurant 5 stars as a result. I had the sticky chicken salad. It was good but the sweetness was a bit over the top...sweet sauce on the chicken, craisins, candied pecans, sweet drizzle on the salad AND ranch dressing. They put four chicken fingers in my salad and I could only eat two. My husband got the steak tacos. The steak was good but as soon as he picked up the "tacos" they fell apart in his hand resulting in more of a knife and fork situation. The kids had chicken fingers and chips (more like thin crispy waffle fries) which were both delicious. Drinks only come in bottles. The ambience leaves something to be desired. The food all comes in takeout boxes and the seat bottoms on all the chairs were worn out. The service was fast and friendly though. read more

Ate here twice. Love it. Very attentive folks making imaginative dishes prepared perfectly. The fried mushroom was excellent. Huge bowlful too. Last trip had spicy Sambal fettuccine. So cheesy! Had enough for leftovers. Also the French onion soup is absolutely loaded with onions toast and cheese. Loved it. Best herbed focaccia bread I've ever had also. TLDR: AMAZING little restaurant. Eclectic vibes, excellent green curry pasta. Super friendly staff. Try it out! We were sooo hungry after a big hike & hoping to find a good dinner. Very few places in town were open, and the ones that were seemed ok at best. (No hate, just mediocre reviews.) Then we found this place. Recently open for dinner, the Backroads Bistro was exactly what we needed! The music they had on was superb and really made the mood. The service was excellent. The chef told us exactly what was in the dishes we were deciding between, and everything sounded amazing. We ended up just getting all of it! We tried two of the specials -- beer battered mushrooms (seriously delicious and super fresh) and the spicy chili crisp noodle stir fry (not as spicy as it sounds, and very flavorful). A regular menu item, the green curry pasta, was to die for!! I would eat here again and again if only I didn't live so far away. The portions were big and the prices were very reasonable. It's a small but mighty establishment! And seriously, the people who run this place are so kind. If you judge a book by its cover, you might pass the Backroad Bistro up. That would be a huge mistake. This place is INCREDIBLE!!! Not only are their option's phenomenal for such a small town, but pricing is amazing and the amazing taste is the kicker! I will be stopping here every time I'm heading to the nearby parks! We got the fettuccine, enchiladas, wasabi potato pancakes, and sticky chicken salad and it was perfect!!
