I'm shocked this place doesn't have a higher overall rating -- its so good! I don't get bagels often because I hate a disappointing bagel, but after having these at a neighbor's house I knew I had found a source of truly great bagels. I stopped by and got an everything bagel and a cheddar green chili bagel, along with some jalapeño cream cheese. Both bagels were fresh, warm, and the perfect amount of chewy and soft. Both were good but the everything bagel is the winner. Their everything bagel blend is so flavorful!! Now I get why I saw it packaged for sale as a seasoning mix. I like the jalapeño cream cheese but I think their scallion cream cheese is even better. You can get bagels as is, with cream cheese or butter etc and then they have breakfast and lunch sandwiches. I'll definitely need to try one of the lunch sandwiches soon! They're in the plaza off Southern, just west of Sprouts, with plenty of parking. Open until 1 or until sold out. read more

I came by on a whim after donating some clothes to the nearby goodwill. Walking in, the vibe is there and the place was nicely decorated and the service was great and friendly! My boyfriend is from Jersey so I wanted to bring him something that would remind him of home but unfortunately the bagel was just not that good. I can't pinpoint an exact reason why but we agreed the flavor wasn't really there and it just tasted like a normal sandwich from places that don't really specialize in bagels. The prospect of treating myself to a traditional cream cheese and lox bagel had me pretty excited, and so I looked this place up and realized it was in a familiar shopping center. It's the NW corner of McClintock & Sothern, which is where I go to shop at Sprouts or get my car wash at Clean Freak. Location aside, I was pretty disappointed with the bagel. One negative was the price. It cost $8 for the straightforward bagel plus cream cheese with a slice of lox, but if you stepped it up to include capers and onions it would run you $16! I opted for the $8 tier, threw in a $1 tip, got it to go, and dressed it up with capers and onions at home. It was barely flavorful. This was the cheddar jalapeño bagel, and I could barely taste it. The texture was wrong too. Not dense, no real chew, and no glossy exterior. Was this a bun with hole in the middle disguised as a bagel? In addition, the cream cheese was as dull as could be and the lox did not taste fresh or even very lox-like. I only ate half the bagel and threw the rest away. I'm adding an extra star for charm and decor, but I mostly judge a place by its food and not necessarily its aesthetic. Maybe I caught them on an off-day because it seemed pretty popular as it was somewhat busy. Enjoyed a toasted garlic bagel with veggie cream cheese. Bagel was soft and airy which was reminiscent of my NYC bagels from the past. However the garlic tasted off to me a bit. I keep coming back to this place mostly because of the location, not because it's particularly good. The staff isn't unfriendly, but they're not especially warm either. To be fair, they're usually pretty busy around lunchtime, so I've always just chalked it up to that. Overall, everything here has consistently been... fine. Not great, not terrible, just okay. They do have a wide variety of bagels, although they're often sold out of quite a few options. But this last visit really took things to another level. I ordered the "Ned the Veg" on a salt bagel. In my mind, a salt bagel meant something similar to a salted pretzel. Lightly salted, balanced, edible. What I got was a bagel completely coated in coarse salt on top. Not sprinkled. Not seasoned. Fully committed. I literally could not eat the top half of my sandwich. On top of that (pun intended), the sandwich itself was dry, and the tomato was very much not in season. Pale, flavorless, and honestly a questionable choice for something that's supposed to be a veggie-forward sandwich. I don't think I need to explain how important good vegetables are when that's the entire point. So between the salt overload, the dry build, and the underwhelming ingredients, it is time for me to find a new bagel shop. read more

We've stopped here many times and really enjoy their bagels. If you get here mid morning, the selection is a bit more limited. They open early and are usually closed by about 1 o'clock. We haven't really found a bagel that we haven't liked. They are all super fresh and soft with the right crust. Casual atmosphere with a little bit eclectic decor. Service is a bit hit and miss. Some of the staff are amazing and friendly. We've had others that border on just plain rude. However, the food is good enough that we come back. read more

I have always been a person who prefers Mom and Pop shops over the big chains. I have been going to Back East Bagels for over 18 years. My number one complaint is that when you order a Toasted Bagel it NEVER has any toast or crispness they are barely warmed. I have asked numerous times for the bagel to be double Toasted even double Toasted is only a slightly warmer bagel. When I order bagels to go and NOT Toasted I can toast them at home and they are very delicious. I should NOT have take home a bagel egg, ham and cheese sandwich and have to re-toast it. Today I ordered two bagel ham and cheese sandwiches and ask for them to be EXTRA Toasted. The cashier said we will double toast it and then acknowledged they need a new toaster oven. My to go order came out and the lady repeated what I ordered Green Chili Cheddar ham and egg and a Jalapeño ham and egg sandwich. I arrived at home only to discover a Green Chili and a Everything Bagle sandwich and neither one was toasted; warm yes but visible or physically toast was not on either bagel. I went back to have the sandwich made with right bagel and again asked please make sure it is toasted towhich she replied snarkily I'll triple toast it. I paid 15 bucks for two sandwiches and tipped 5 bucks I don't think it's too much to ask for it to be made right. Long story short. Great bagels lousy toaster and staff that seems to be mad at me they did not make the order correctly. read more

Egg and sausage are mixed and microwaved (pre cooked) No flavor on the jalepeno cream cheese Jalepeno bagel is a more of a red pepper flake baked in and topped. Spicy but not flavorful. Out of most of the bagels (No every thing) Cream cheese (plain) is flavorless and the salt bagel (bottom) has a sourdough or egg bagel flavor Salt top is salty (duh) and crunchy. Overall we would not return as there are really great places in the valley and this one just didn't land for us. Also.. they sell out, but according to the cashier they sell out because they are short staffed so they don't make as much. read more

I'm new to Tempe and I spent about an hour looking online for a place that serves traditional lox bagels. This is that place! Everyone working here is super friendly and helpful about suggesting what to try. The suite is physically a small place but they've managed to make it look much bigger when you walk in because of the large wall of mirrors, it really makes a small spot look huge visually. The vibe is nice, quaint, and the bagels are terrific! How often does someone make a yelp account to leave a good review? That's just how great this spot really is! I asked if he could go in the back and was refused. Another co-worker heard my request and also did nothing. Didn't even say it would be an extra .25 for the hardship. The place is busy. been coming here for years, my favorite local spot for fresh bagels. sometimes feel like i'm getting away with something illegal when i go super early and score all the fresh bagels. i always get something different when i go, all delicious. this trip i got one of their lunch bagels, the Philly Pastrami on an onion bagel and it did not disappoint! also got a jalapeño bagel with plain spread, everything bagel with jalapeño spread & a dog bagel. the dog bagel unfortunately messed up my dogs tummy so i don't recommend it for senior dogs or sensitive dogs in general! love the license plate wall, mirrored wall and overall ambiance here. staff is friendly and welcoming! read more

I love me a good bagel, as does my boyfriend. He took me here in February because he enjoys this spot, and I liked the bacon-egg-n-cheese bagel sandwich I got. I got the garlic bagel, which was not too overwhelming in flavor, and so dense and delicious. The orange juice tasted so fresh as well. For two bagel sandwiches and two orange juices, it was probably around $25. Not too bad, in this day and age. Then we went back this past weekend, and I was so disappointed. The first visit's sandwich was quite packed with bacon, and this most recent visit, I had such minimal bacon bits that it was as if I had no bacon in it. Also, the first time, the bacon was a bit crispy, and this last time it was not cooked as well. My sandwich was prepared sloppily in comparison to my boyfriend's, and unevenly aligned. This was disappointing, especially since my boyfriend would frequent this establishment. The place itself is cool with all the license plates on the wall and it does get very busy with a line out the door (but goes pretty fast), but I wish the food was consistent. read more

Have had some good experiences and like their coffee, but today I ordered a bagel with spread and received it rock hard and cold after waiting 15 minutes for my order. Loud blaring music and someone who didn't seem to know how to use a blender(likely why it took 15 minutes for our order) made it an unpleasant environment to be in. When we received our drinks they told us they have no straws and to try going to a closed chicken restaurant 6 stores over. Extremely disappointed to have such an impactful bad experience at a place I used to look forward to visiting. Likely will not return read more
