BRUSSELS SPROUTS
Victoryia G.

I spent the weekend in DC for my birthday and no matter where I am I crave pizza! We went in the evening after a long day! We chose the outdoor seating because I had my dog. The server was so kind he brought my dog water. The service was great, our waiter was very attentive but not annoying. He was very suprised about our ranch consumption lol.. I ordered pepperoni with sausage and onions along with fries and Brussels! The Brussels were perfect. The pizza was so fresh and cheesy! And the fries... so so good. The best oven baked fries I've ever had. My friend got a "build your own pizza " and the waiter called it a random pizza 10/10 service and the food went perfectly with the vibe. I really appreciated the greenery in the patio area .Dog friendly is a plus!

14" RANDOLPH PLACE
Suzie Z.

I tried takeout from here last night and ordered two pizzas. We got the Crispus Attucks (vegetarian) and Randolph Place (meaty), along with Brussels sprouts and a burrata salad. What stood out to me right away was how refreshingly light the pizzas were. They are not as oily as other spots I've tried, which was perfect for my taste. The dough was fresh and airy, with a nice chew to it. Between the pizzas and sides, the portions were solid--easily enough to feed six females. Overall, it's a great option for a more balanced take on pizzas, especially if you're looking for something satisfying without the grease.

BACIO'S WINGS

Fantastic service. They were accommodating for myself and my service dog. The food was incredible. I got the Buffalo Wings as an appetizer and the 10" Eckington. Both were amazing and left nothing to be desired. The atmosphere of the dining room upstairs was comfortable and warm. Felt like a scene out of a movie. Especially if you get one of these balcony seats. 10/10 will be back.

This is one of those spots I consider to be a "hidden gem" because I've never heard anyone talk about it and it's slightly tucked away in the shaw neighborhood. We stumbled upon it while looking for a dog-friendly spot to grab lunch last Saturday. They have a cute patio which is decorated in two very different ways - the covered patio is very classic, wicker chairs and simple decor (with heaters for once the weather turns colder). The open patio has a very trendy decor style, with faux flowers and a cute wall that would make for a nice photo background. The service was great - we were the first ones there for lunch but even as it got busier, our server was always around and ready to help us out. I grabbed a local Senate lager from Right Proper Brewing Co and my husband grabbed an Amber beer. We started with the French fries and Brussel sprouts, which were good. My husband felt the brusell sprouts were a little undercooked, but I liked them as-is. For pizza: he did a plain cheese and I got the Randolph Place. I loved that so many of the names were true to DC and paid homage to neighborhoods!! I would describe the pizza as similar to a dominoes pizza style - but waaayyyy elevated. They aren't on the same tier at all, but I draw the comparison when thinking of crust thickness; that style of pizza I haven't really had anywhere else. This place uses the highest quality ingredients, everything was fresh, and the pizza was cooked to the PERFECT level of done-ness. Crispy crust, beautiful bubbling of the cheese, and the sauce is JUST right. Next time I was to try one of their organic cocktails which are advertised, and maybe the mozz sticks, which look bomb! This spot, Andy's Pizza, and Della Barba hold the title as top 3 pizza joints in DC (in my mind). Go check them out!

On a quick trip to DC, when a friend asked if there was a good pizza place in the area, I remembered Bacio's quaint patio on a side street in Shaw. I'm glad I did because on a surprisingly cool summer evening, there was little more one could ask for than sipping on an Aperol spritz here and sharing a bruschetta as the afternoon winded down. We shared a pizza with gorgonzola and caramelized roasted garlic, and a Nona option with chunks of eggplant on top, both delicious pies somewhere between Neapolitan and a NY slice pie. While perusing the menu, we noticed a white cheese filo pastry advertised that sounded suspiciously like sigara böreği. After some inquiring, we found out that the owner is in fact Turkish! We tried an order and enjoyed the unique baked variety paired with marinara sauce.

Unfortunately like so many places that start off great, this is crumbling under terrible customer service. When a place is charging upwards of $40 for a 14" pizza, you have to excel across the board. The city is too expensive for weak excuses.

soooooo yum. the food is super good and fresh, the place is super small and cute, but very nice. i would definitely go back, and would be fun for a date night. the staff is great, great restaurant!

CALZONE (CUSTOMIZED)
Boobie D.

uber eats delivered but the calzone was huge && worth every dollar because im sure you cant finish the entire thing in one sitting! all the food was fresh except the mozz sticks were okay as they seems not to be fried enough (thank goodness for a airfryer reheat)! i would for sure order from here again the next time im craving a calzone! might try the pizza next too. its the ninja turtle in me?

Restaurant was amazing! All the food tasted delicious and came out quickly on Valentine's Day. Can't wait to come back again soon

Oh how I want to give this place more stars! But, let me share my experience. I was introduced to this place over the weekend and thought I'd give them a personal try. I walk up and there it is a quaint little restaurant. Who would have known! We decide to eat in since they have their patio. The Flies were like vultures and it was hard to eat in peace. I strongly recommend taking out. As we are enjoying the meal, I hear a man start mumbling to himself. He goes in the establishment and comes out with all the employees. He is now scolding all of them, for what I could gather he was upset about trash and dirt on the sidewalk. Personally I didn't notice any of that, the big concern for me were the DC flies that were flying around the pizza. The issue for me was having to watch the employees get in trouble for something so meaningless. It was unprofessional and arrogant. I really love this place but I also love kind people and the owner was a tyrant. I hope he sees this and realizes how his actions made a repeat customer not ever want to come back. Did we receive a hello? Nope! Did he say thanks to us? Nope! Did he ask how are meal was? Nope! Yeah, How logical is that?

They even elevated the traditional ceaser salad and made its citrus notes dance on your pallet differently. I purposefully tried all the viral items, arancini, 40 layer lasagna etc and they lived up to the hype. The ambiance, and service were equally satisfying. Unfortunately, I never got a chance to while I lived in DC, because to be honest, I never got in an Italian mood. Now that I no longer reside in the DC area, I use every visit to eat my faves and occasionally a new spot. So, after another popular (and cheaper) Italian place closed before I could finish my delivery order, I spotted L'Ardente. I ordered the famous Lasagna - their 40-layer specialty - with short rib sugo, truffle mornay, and Sottocenere Cheese. The truffle mornay added a smooth, melty, creamy cheese sauce. It is good, but I am not sure if it is worth the hype at $40 lagnasa. I think the cost is built into the work but not the flavor profile. I think the meal is better without the sauce - it made it too salty with it.

They also used bucatini noodles and I feel like not many restaurants do that and I just love how it absorbs all the sauce. Bread was delicious as always, but the cheese was just okay. Honestly I feel like the bread tasted better with the ragu sauce. Potatoes were exactly what you would expect - herby and slightly cheesy. Vibes in there are perfect - like an old style Italian homey restaurant. Service took a little while but they were also busy.

Found it to be a bit louder than I would've liked but I think it was because of the spacing between tables. Came toward the end of the night and got seated and welcomed right away. I ordered the polpette, meatballs to start. They were quite tasty, but the sauce was a bit watery. Think that's just because the meatballs themselves were pretty juicy. Heard the focaccia was a hit, so asked for some of that. I was told they didn't have any left. Which was weird, because then another server came and asked if I wanted bread. I'm glad I said yes because the focaccia is very fresh and was a great addition to the meal. For my main, I ordered the vodka pasta, which was very flavorful and very saucy. I love a good, thick vodka sauce and that's what you'll get here. The one part of the pasta I didn't really enjoy was the chicken inside the pasta. I think I would've preferred a grilled chicken option instead of the chicken that comes in the pasta. That being said, this place is a gem. The prices are great and the portions are hearty. The pasta is thick, you're really coming here for fresh noodles and ingredients. If you want to top your meal off just right, you'll get the chocolate lava cake. Very delicious! Service was good and staff was very attentive!

Martini Hour alert!…read more First, I think that the martini hour is absolutely genius! It runs from 5-7pm and the selections of martinis were perfect. Ambiance: the restaurant is beautiful but note that martini hour takes place in a small bar area with limited seats. Nonetheless, you can grab a few friends and make this a moment as you enjoy those perfect martini selections. Bites: there weren't much to eat at martini hour so we moved to the general area afterwards to enjoy some food. Service: the staff was amazing and very accommodating. Shoutout to Nesto, the best bartender around! Martinis: Morini Martini: I absolutely love this drink. It was crisp, refreshing, and had a little bold flavors from the white pepper. I absolutely loved this drink and would get it again Sicilian Martini: another fav! Think summer time refreshing with a hint of sweet and citrus burst from the mandarin and lemon Espresso Martini: this drink was another great selection. Freshly brewed and perfectly prepared. I loved it Least favorite: Cala Rossa. I only disliked the drink because it was very sugary and I don't really enjoy sugary drinks. Food: Rigatoni: this dish was divine! And quick note, the smaller plates were perfect serving sizes. But back to the dish. The pasta was cooked al dente and the lamb ragu was soooooooooooooo good! No seriously, it was absolutely divine. Perfectly seasoned and rich in flavors. Other members of my party enjoyed their dishes: Cappelletti and Paccheri Alla Norma, both were described as absolutely perfect. Finding the restaurant was easy but walking into a foyer that looked like the back of a restaurant / server entrance with no staff to greet you was a little confusing. Service was okay, but there were multiple times when we wondered where our server was. The bread, oil, and winter sangria were AMAZING. For food we had Brussels, calamari, and mussels to start (all delicious), tortellini mignon (underwhelming and sent back for the lobster linguine), scallop and shrimp risotto (okay, but I've had better), and branzino (good and cooked well) as entrees. I had the tiramisu for dessert which was good, but I did almost choke in the first bite from the amount of cinnamon. I would go back to try additional dishes, but a little underwhelmed for a first experience.
