In the 'burbs of Minneapolis for a business meeting, we had dinner here with a few guests. It's a beautiful space, really loved the interior natural light and stonework, but the food just left me kind of flat. Started with the bruschetta duo, grilled asparagus, and seared ahi on crisps - all serviceable, nothing that really jumped out at us, though. Salad course - a few Ciao Babies and a couple that I can't remember the name of that had bleu cheese and bacon. Again - good, not great. For dinner I had the halibut, but we were pretty varied around the table - some halibut, walleye, salmon, and the roasted chicken. My fish was overcooked and pretty dry, but it was a very fresh piece of halibut - the rest of our guests seemed to enjoy their meals but no one was licking the plate or anything. I had key lime pie for dessert - small and just the right amount - this I liked. Two guests had the budino - one was great and one was overcooked - one person had the gelato sampler, and another had the tin roof sundae. So - we had dishes from a pretty broad swath of the menu, and almost all was just OK. But, a lovely space, as I mentioned, and great service from our waitress (who had lived in Orange County for a time, go figure!) would bring me back, even with the food not being great. It was still good - I just found myself wishing that the dishes had a little more pizazz to match the surroundings and the service. read more

Highly recommend! The food speaks for itself. Every dish I tried made my taste buds jump for joy. I love the ambiance and was not surprised that this jem was packed to the brim, even on a Wednesday afternoon. Bacio has high-dining, chef-crafted food written all over it. I started with the Ahi Tuna Crab rolls, even this simple appetizer was done with excellence. The wasabi-soy sauce really added the right kick to the mix of crunchy egg roll wrapper and soft raw fish inside. The Brasiliana salad is a MUST - it is light and fresh and compliments any meal. Finally I tried two dishes - Pesto Crusted Sea Bass and Linguine De' Mar. Both seafood dishes were dreamy and equally perfect in taste and size. This restaurant may be in the suburbs, but it is as quality as any downtown restaurant and worth the drive. Give it a try, you'll understand what I'm talking about. read more

As others have said, I wouldn't call this an authentic Italian restaurant but that doesn't make the food any less good! My boyfriend and I were excited to see that they carried a bunch of wines from Sonoma Valley, quite a few of the bottles were from vineyards we toured! My man liked their beer selection a lot and got to try the Sierra Nevada seasonal for the first time. We split a Ciao Baby salad as a starter as the man's mom is obsessed with it, it seems like a lot of Yelpers are too! It's a bed of mixed greens with pine nuts, goat cheese, and a balsamic vinaigrette. For my entree I had the Wood Grilled Ahi Tuna and Ahi loved it. It came with this spicy mustard sauce and was lightly grilled so you still got the goodness of the sushi grade tuna. It also came with a side of wasabi mashed potatoes. If you haven't tried that combo you are missing out, it's a game changer people. Service has always been top notch here and the food is great. Haters, stop hatin. read more

Among upscale eateries, this restaurant has lasted beyond the "trendy" first or second year to become a perennial favorite amongst locals. The experience builds upon a wonderful atmosphere of fascinating modern, minimalist Italian-inspired architecture, followed by candlelight ambiance. Service and attentiveness by the wait-staff is impeccable. Dining there on a dinner date with my wife, we were treated like royalty, and every need was addressed with punctual efficiency. The food, was good, but not outstanding -- in fact, for all of the style and accompaniments, it seemed like it could have been a bit better. Flavors were flavorful, and presentation was beautiful with a minimalist treatment for garnishes as well. As a whole, the dining experience was quite good with service, and ambience high on the rating scale, and good, if not overwhelmingly fantastic food for the price. read more

Bacio would like their description to read "a wonderfully chic restaurant with both class and comfort, Bacio will delight you and your family whether dropping in for lunch or date night." In fact, I'm pretty sure that was the pitch made to investors when they built the architecturally impressive dining room. The reality is that Bacio is more interested on coming off as a fancy restaurant to the suburban clientelle than in actually being a fancy restaurant. The food is fine, but the menu doesn't know if it wants to be an American Bistro, an Italian restaurant, or a fancy Asian-infusion pub. It goes on and on and on with options which are dressed in fancy words but lack real substance. They throw words like "sashimi", "wasabi", "pan-seared" and "pine nuts" around, but the menu fails to combine them into anything more than a mish-mash of flavors and textures. Think Green Mill with fancier ingredients but the same chef. The server was very interested in playing aloof and pretentious, but didn't actually know anything about the food. When asked what made the "whole grain risotto" a risotto she scowled and said "Well, it's a risotto made with whole grain." Thanks. The booth we were seated in was a big, lush, curved leather number which still managed to be cramped, awkward and uncomfortable with six people. The bottom line is that the food is fine (if overpriced), the service is fine (if cold and unhelpful), and the setting is fine (if over-the top and imposing), but I can't shake the feeling that Bacio is scowling at me for not being impressed. Dining in the suburbs is not a hobby of mine. Why leave the city to eat at a chain? I have to "eat crow" with Bacio. The food is consistent and flavors can be comforting to the conservative and more challenging to the adventuresome. The salads are well dressed (like the Minnetonka folk that patronize the place). Last time I tried the prosciutto and fig flat bread which allowed all four of my taste bud types to indulge in the elements of sweet, salty, bitter, sour. My dining partner wanted walleye (they were out and the manager came over to apologize personally). Our astute waitress steered him away from something she thought he wouldn't like (thank you). He instead decided on the sweet corn and mascarpone stuffed ravioli. It was topped with just enough bacon to entice him into ordering it (men of his generation are not vegetarian). He offered me a bite then I stole another and another off his plate. We both thought it was great. Now, is this authentic Italian? No, not really. Don't forget that a Marshall's store is next door. But it's good food and not burgers, which means it's on my shortlist of places to eat when I'm in the Minnetonka area. read more

The food and wait staff here are quite good. The food is well prepared, the wine list varied. However several times I have come after work for a bite to eat at the bar and have consistently found the bar crowded and people saving seats or whole sections for friends who not yet arrived. This may be fine behavior for a third grader but these are middle aged men and women with apparently some means being rude and churlish. Perhaps it's the Minnetonka area, known for its rather pretentious but otherwise unimpressive denizens. It's simply easier to go to Redstone, the Boulevard, or other places of similar style in the area. I won't be back soon except as a diner at a table. The BF and I visited Bacio one night after shopping. We didn't know the restaurants around there very well, so the guys at Golfsmith recommended we try Bacio. Of course, we had no reservation, but we were seated right away. I think it was probably after the real dinner rush, but they were still fairly busy. Right away, I was impressed with the decor. It really was a relaxed, but impressive atmosphere (a mix of old Italian flare with a modern twist)--not what I would expect in the burbs. After we looked over the menu, we realized that it was very similar to Zelo (one of our favorite downtown restaurants). That was when our server explained to us that the same guy used to operate Zelo, Bacio and Ciao Bella. The complimentary bread and olive oil was really good--I normally don't rave about things like that, but both the bread and the oil had a better flavor than Buca, which is another place we frequent downtown. We shared the Tortiglioni Rossa, and our server split the pasta onto two plates, but didn't charge us a split plate charge like a lot of places do. The pasta was DELICIOUS--the flavors complimented each other perfectly. If you like italian sausage, I would highly recommend the dish. We did try a seasonal bruchetta app they had at the time too, but I can't remember exactly what it was--something with bacon, and it was really good as well. The service was outstanding--our server had a lot of personality and was very attentive. I'm sure it helped that they weren't extremely busy, so he had time to keep an eye on us, but still I have to say I'm shocked at some of the other experiences I've read about. My wife and I found this place and decided to try it for our 2nd anniversary. As soon as we walked in, we knew this place might be above our normal budget amount, but we wanted to splurge. The decor was higher class and very nice. The food was amazing! I ordered the 6 oz Filet mignon and my wife ordered the Walleye. Both were blasting with flavor and melt in your mouth. Then we had Gelato to wrap up our meal and that was equally as delicious. The only reason I give Bacio 4 stars is the price, but if you have the money for a spendy meal, Bacio should be toward the top of your list. read more

I went to Bacio's with a former colleague of mine on a weeknday afternoon for lunch around 1pm. I was amazed at how busy the place was for a restaurant located outside of downtown at what I considered a rather late lunch hour. Despite the hustle and bustle, my companion and I were seated almost immediately. I asked the waitress what she would recommend to eat and she said that Bacio is known for its burgers. Checking out the selection, I immediately saw the Ahi Tuna Burger and decided to go with that. It was tasty, a sizeable portion of seared Ahi Tuna with nicely sliced avocado portion on top with lettuce. It was tasty... definitely. However, the accompaniment, thinly cut french fries was a somewhat disappointing side dish. Overall, food was good, but I was in hurry and will be much more explorative next time. read more

Been dining here for 15+ years and was our fav local spot for a weekend meal before the pandemic. Finally made it back after a year away and they haven't missed a beat. Service is above and beyond, consistently. I've never been made to feel anything less than the most important customer in the place and I'm by no means a 'known' customer. The staff is just perfect. We've tried most of the menu over the years and I still come back to the spaghetti and meatballs about half the time. Best meatballs I've had in the west metro and they don't drown the pasta in sauce, just nicely coated like it should be. Other favs are the burrata chicken, any of their steaks, sweet corn ravioli, shrimp scampi pasta, and they make a very nice bloody mary. Great food, service, and atmosphere. A group of 12 came here for a birthday celebration. We had a fantastic experience. The service was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. We brought wine, and I was impressed that the server was knowledgeable about wine that wasn't on their own menu. The corkage fee was very reasonable. (I was told by the guy who reviewed the tab that they charged one fee for the three bottles that our group brought.) By the way, we also ordered a couple of bottles of sangiovese off their menu as well. Someone at the other end of the table ordered 6 or 7 appetizers. They were good. For dinner, my wife and I split the Braziliana salad; we both were delighted by it. For my meal, I had a half order of the lamb meatballs with pasta, mint pesto and pine nuts. I thought it was very good. My wife had Alaskan halibut. Around the table everyone seemed to be pleased with the food. The ambiance is very comfortable, and the decor is rustic. Some of the other Yelpers criticize Bacio for not having a thoroughly authentic Italian menu. I accept their critique, but for me, it's not a negative. I think this restaurant has a very good sense of what its clientele wants, and they do a good job of delivering it with panache. I'm a fan. read more

The Heirloom Grain Salad has earned my vote for the best salad in a Twin Cities restaurant. Whether you're vegetarian, vegan or just like unique salads, it's definitely worth trying and, like me, you'll probably be back many times. The salad is available at sister restaurants Bacio in Minnetonka, Ciao Bella in Bloomington and Zelo in downtown Minneapolis. The Heirloom Grain Salad not only tastes delicious and looks fantastic, it's made of vegetables and grains, so it's healthy as well. The ingredients include chopped spinach, grape tomatoes, hearts of palm, avocado, asparagus, red pepper and green onion combined with organic quinoa and heirloom farro (similar to barley) and tossed in a light olive oil and lemon dressing. It does have Provolone and Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, which they are happy to hold for vegans. The salad is available as a starter for $7.95, which is a perfect size for lunch, or as an entrée for $11.95. I come here often for business lunches since I enjoy the atmosphere (open with some natural light in the middle of the main dining area) and the food. The fare is sort of a fusion of Italian and Asian flavors with several vegetarian and gluten free options. The servers, on average, are kind and attentive. Also, the food generally comes pretty quickly, which is nice for those time-crunched business lunches. My favorite menu item is the fettuccine with chicken. The fettuccine noodles are spinach (Just a note: for a while they were making it with plain linguine noodles, and it wasn't as good.), and the dish includes sliced almonds. It's so good! I also enjoy the calamari fritti and ahi tuna crisps appetizers. I have also visited Bacio once for dinner, and my experience was equally as good. I will continue to visit Bacio frequently, and I recommend it to anyone who wants an enjoyable and tasty meal experience. read more

On a recent trip to Minneapolis and staying at the Sheraton I asked for a good restaurant within walking distance and everyone said Bacio. WOW. I would have driven half way across the country for this place. This place is classified as Italian but it's more Italian inspired with a much stronger emphasis on local and sustainable ingredients. Everything here from the wine and beer list, the entrees and the desserts highlight what this region has to offer but still offers a wide variety. The tuna, while delicious, I believe isn't native to the 10,000 lakes. The atmosphere is upscale without being stuffy. I went in jeans and a T-shirt and felt very comfortable alongside those in business suits and other professional attire. The lighting is subdued as well as the noise level: right between that of a library and a bar. Lively enough that you can have a great conversation without whispering nor having to shout. The food was incredible. While they have a series of great entrees, I went tapas style and had a series of appetizers. I appreciated the fact they brought out my appetizers a the same time as my associates entree (too often when I order appetizer as an entree it gets brought out before the meal) Generally, I found the service as equally balanced as the atmosphere. The server was prompt without hovering or pushing us to order. They explained the menu well and made suggestions where appropriate. A great meal and I envy natives of Minneapolis who get to eat here more often than I did! read more

Have always enjoyed the experience at Bacio, however; when we needed something special for a corporate luncheon for 18 people, I naturally thought of this restaurant. Our meals were sitting in bags on a table by the entrance, when we went to set up, there were only 4 meals with any kind of a label (one labeled no bacon that had bacon on it) everything lukewarm, so by the time we had it all sorted out... cold meals. Mortified is too weak of a description. Not recommended. When I called to tell them, the GM didn't have time to talk with me, but rather had someone say it was our bad planning, that we should have expected this result. For starters, the décor is beautiful. You'd expect a restaurant adjacent to a mall to have a sterile feeling, but Bacio is warm and romantic inside. I dug the paneled ceilings and brick archways. I wish it weren't so loud though. The heirloom grain salad is one heavenly pile of healthy eating. I've had it once with parmesan crusted shrimp and once with beautiful slices of tuna. If you're looking for the perfect lunch in the Ridgedale shopping abyss, this is it. Overall, the food is good, but not good enough for the price point. A beet salad with six slices of beets and a bunch of tasty toppings should not cost $11. This isn't Manhattan. I had the pesto crusted sea bass and was disappointed. It looked beautiful, and the pesto crust and beurre blanc were delicious. But the fish itself was badly cooked and unseasoned. For $35, I expect to get a piece of fish that's cooked way better than I could cook myself, and this wasn't. Also, the sea bass came with what I'll call "suburban style wasabi mashed potatoes," because the wasabi was virtually undetectable. Sad, because I love wasabi. My husband had lobster ravioli,. which had an impressive amount of lobster and an impressive lack of grease, but the pasta was so undercooked it was tough. read more

Bacio was a very pleasant surprise in the West Metro. My wife and I stopped in for a couple drinks and a light meal before catching a movie. I had some reservations about coming to this place, nestled among corporate eateries atop the hill overlooking Ridgedale. I loathe corporate restaurant chains. They rarely leave me feeling satisfied and are a dime a dozen in the vast middle "blahh" of the American Dining Experience. Thankfully, Bacio is a pleasant exception First off, I would not call this an Italian restaurant, per se. More like Italian Fusion. Just don't come in expecting "old world." The decor is high-end and the space is well laid out. As soon as you walk in they let you know that this is going to be good. We were seated near the center of the dining room in a booth under the brick archways and skylight. There are a couple big screen TVs behind the bar and the pace is a bit frenetic. We split an order of calamari. My wife had the caprese salad and I had the cheeseburger (I know, I know, give me a break, I had a craving!) Warm, fresh bread was served (and refilled!) after we placed our order. They have a respectable wine selection and even have a good number of beers to choose from for an Italian restaurant. Our food was platted and served with very good timing. Everything was delicious! I highly recommend the calamari. They make it fresh for you in the kitchen. The service here deserves special mention. They really put an emphasis on giving you a fantastic dining experience and it definitely shows. I never felt rushed or forgotten. Our drinks were refilled in a timely fashion and our check came promptly when we were done. A tip of my hat to the staff--service is the simplest thing to do at a restaurant and yet so many places do it wrong. Bacio does it RIGHT! I finally made it to Bacio, I guess I didn't realize it had the same menu as Zelo. However, lucky for me one of my fav meals is the Heirloom salad w/ filet on top. YUMMY! I even talked the other two people with me to order the same thing. They all loved it. Healthy, hearty and sooo good. However a $19+ tip salad for lunch. OUCH! Heirloom grain salad is an addiction (add protein of your choice--I add either the calamari or seared tuna) and I often call ahead and order it "to go" so they won't come to recognize me. It's not a cheap salad, so takeout also saves some money. But it's nice to eat it there, too, because Bacio's interior is what heaven would look like for me: airy, mixed wood, brick, stone, metal. I recently had lunch at Bacio with some coworkers and was very pleasantly surprised!! Our server was excellent - always kept the drinks refilled (which is honestly a challenge for most servers I encounter....I tend to drink an entire glass of Cherry Coke before appetizers) and was more than patient while we debated over the dessert menu. The atmosphere was very open and bright - plenty of sunlight streaming in the windows. :) The food? Delicious! They bring out this lovely basket full of bread that's nice and soft and warm...mmmm comfort. I ordered the Spaghetti al Fresco: spaghetti tossed with olive oil, garlic, tomato, basil, and a generous sprinkle of freshly-grated parmesan cheese. It was a nice light dish (which is good for me at lunch time, since "heavy" food tends to make me want to nap at my desk when I go back to work) that had excellent flavor, which was no doubt because of the fresh ingredients. For dessert we split the cheesecake and the gelato sampler.....doesn't get much better than their vanilla gelato. I will definitely be going back to try more of their scrumptious pasta dishes - and I may need to put a gallon sized Ziploc bag in my purse for some of that bread! read more

I have eaten at Bacio several times for both lunch and dinner. It is in close proximity to my place of employment and, therefore, is a very convenient choice for business dining. Let's face it, the west metro is in short supply of decent upscale eateries. In this neck of the woods it's Bacio or the Redstone. However, I find the Redstone a bit too pretentious. So when my gold-digger radar is broken and my Porsche is in the shop, I prefer to do my dining and entertaining at Bacio. Don't get me wrong, you'll find the same yuppie crowd at Bacio, but for some reason it just doesn't feel as snooty. Maybe it's because the space is bigger and you're not packed in like sardines like you are at the Redstone. Who knows. While Bacio touts itself as an Italian establishment, the menu runs a taste gamut that will cater to almost any pallet. Not feeling like pasta? Have a steak. Want to avoid gorging yourself over lunch? Try one of their many great soups or salads. Yesterday, while there for a lunch meeting, I had the tomato basil soup with the Asian sesame salad. The salad was OK. The chicken on the salad was pretty tough. But the flavor was great! And the tomato soup was AWESOME. I know it's pretty tough to screw up tomato soup, but this stuff was fantastic. The atmosphere/decor is very nice. Very classy and open. For those of you drawing a correlation between Bacio and Zelo due to the similarities, that's because they share ownership. The service has always been above par. Our waitress yesterday allowed my colleague and I to yap, yap, yap. It was probably 15 minutes before we even looked at our menus and she never once pressured us to pick up the pace. I really appreciate that. All in all, Bacio is a solid choice, especially for lunch. I haven't sat in the bar area anytime I have been, but it was attended to very quickly. The dining room was not full by any means, but apparently was booked up so they made a table for my party of 5 in the lounge. It was louder than I thought it would be at 530. We were offered the happy hour menu ending within minutes and were able to sneak on a couple apps. The server brought us some bread and waters and refilled pretty good. Bacio has gone downhill in the last few years. We used to come here frequently and it was always good, came here today and I was SO disappointed. $23 for a salad with ahi tuna. The ahi tuna was an additional $9 which wasn't shocking, but when it came out it was four QUARTER sized pieces! Not only were they small but they were terribly bland...no flavor AT ALL. Not to mention the ciao baby salad which was described as with "goat cheese and pine nuts" had about 5 pine nuts and one blob of cheese! $14 for a salad that probably costed $2 to make. $9 on top of it for barely any fish. If you're going to charge $23 for a salad, it better be loaded with ingredients that blow your mind. This isn't New York City, you're in Minnetonka next to a Marshall's. Several years ago I think someone went to Redstone, got jealous, and tried to open a Redstone copycat with a twist. Maybe its just the Ridgedale area but this has trendy written all over it, too. It doesn't work as well as Redstone, though. Whereas Redstone has trendy people, the restaurant is still authentic. At Bacio everything is trendy. And in the end the food, the ambiance (what is up with some of the tables), the raised bar (i.e. viewing platform), and the bathrooms are just too trendy... when you see through it, you'll realize that it isn't all that great. read more

Solid nice restaurant with good food and great service! We started with carpaccio, and it was served cold with fresh Parmesan and arugula. The dish was fragrant and I swear I detected tiny ice crystals in the meat, which is fine with me because it means their refrigeration is on point, and when ordering raw meat that is always a good thing! I ordered the linguine de mare and it was good, but the real standout was the linguine with lamb; its fresh spring of rosemary was a nice touch. I also really loved the grilled vegetables. You could really taste the grill. I enjoyed the wine (not sure what it was) but it was a super mellow red. The hot tea is served loose in a little iron pot and it was so rich and perfect. The chocolate dessert was melty inside and it's accompanying vanilla bean gelato was small but tasty. Our server was friendly and attentive and the support staff was readily available as well. Their salsa is absolutely incredible. I judge most restaurants and bars off 2 things. How good is the ranch, how good is the salsa. Lemme tell ya, their salsa is effin' great. In the mood to go somewhere new for lunch on Thursday, my girlfriend & I agreed on Bacio since it's near both of our offices. I made a reservation just in case it was busy at noon. We walked inside & it wasn't too crowded. Since it was such a beautiful day, we opted to sit on the patio instead. The ambiance & menu reminded me a lot of Zelo, so I wasn't surprised when I got back to the office and found out they have the same owners. The complimentary bread basket was awesome! It was fresh & right out of the oven. I ordered the Ciao Baby Salad (greens, pine nuts, goat cheese & balsamic dressing) & added grilled chicken breast. I wasn't sure if I should order the small or large, but was glad I went with the small. It was the perfect amount of food for lunch. I am usually disappointed with grilled chicken at restaurants (tends to be overcooked) but the chicken was delicious! I would definitely come back for lunch or happy hour on their patio. read more
