Edina continues to befuddle me. Despite its reputation as a city consumed by white-bread elitism, Edina has some of the best and most down-to-earth restaurants, shops, and bars in the Twin Cities. The Hilltop, somewhat west of the 50th and France downtown vibe, is the epitome of what a bar and grill should be. There are multiple TVs to watch games, the staff is fun, and the food is fantastic. My Tuna Melt was one of the best, and my wife's chopped salad was great. When I spied pecan pie on the menu, it was pig-out time. That pie was delicious. Everything at the Hilltop is homemade. We sat at the bar, and everyone was friendly. Conversations flowed from us to other patrons to the servers. Wow, that's what a local bar and grill should be about. I loved the Hilltop and will return. read more

This is a breakfast review - they do all meals but this is the only one I have had. The great - great eggs, crispy hash browns, sausage cooked just right. Even the toast was a step above. Wife loved the OJ. Even though it was slammed, it was clean. The good - service was polite, nice, got the order right. It was rushed. They could of used another wait staff. I tipped 20% because staffing levels is a management problem, not a wait staff failure. Inside is nice. Kind of 90's supper club. The fail? Boxed holindaise sauce mix. Come on. $20 for eggs Benedict and you can't take 30 seconds to make real holindaise? And it wasn't a great mix. $50 for breakfast for two (with tip), you get held to a higher standard. 4 stars, not 5 read more

The service was off tonight. When we first got there we had a reservation and she said part of our party had been seated. Instead of bringing us to the table she said look around you will find them. Then we sat at the table which was next to the kitchen that was blasting music so we asked to move tables. We went out on the patio and she asked us to bring our waters etc. The waitress was fine. Everything took forever. One for her to take our order. Two there was a wait for the food to come and a wait for her finally bring the bill. Our food was good. We had a Rueben with a side salad. The grilled salmon with mashed potatoes and an order of chicken wings. This place gets a lot of locals and I think sometimes the staff gets a little too comfortable and lax with helping the customers read more

We had a great experience in the event room/semi-private space to celebrate my nephew's baptism! Their staff accommodated our large group quite smoothly, and service was pretty efficient for a busy Sunday during lunch hour. Their food is pretty classic bar food options - good fries, good ranch. I appreciate that they offer GF bread for a $1 upcharge so took advantage! They were accommodating to kids too - we definitely weren't the only family with young kiddos here. Parking space is tight but there's street parking near it! read more

We walked in, It was marginally busy. there is no server there to greet us and we finally sat down at our table and the water tasted severely unfiltered like it was concerning. The food was honestly pretty amazing. I asked for a refill of my Shirley Temple and she said be right back. It took her 15 minutes and by the time she brought it, we were ready for our bill as I'm leaving. My stomach is starting to hurt. Ambience was kind of loud and all the tables are seated next to the bar the fries honestly tasted horrible. It was like a wet, soggy fry and crispy crunchy sleeve. 3 read more

Happy Amy is a wonderful waitress, always happy and efficient! Today I had the walleye sandwich with clam chowder . . . Pan fried walleye is the best! My companions had the half sandwich and soup special and the Chicken, Apple and Pear Salad, always reliable choices. Busy place, which tells you the food is good. read more

This was my initial visit, and we ate light, but I found it surprisingly pleasant. Surprising, because I have driven past it millions of times on the way to coffee elsewhere. This time, we dropped in for a quick bite. Our server was quite friendly and prompt. I had the French Onion soup (fantastic) and cornbread (delicious). I'll be back for a deeper menu dive. I do love a family-owned restaurant - how they survive in Mpls I'll never know, but this place is lovely. Feels both recently updated and old school diner at the same time. Loved it! read more

Super great staff ... answering all our questions and always ready to fill our coffee cups. The walleye sandwich was superb and my partner's Rachael was delicious. The only downside is the parking though we were lucky to have someone leaving just as we pulled in ...limited handicap parking spots as far as I can tell. The dining and bar area are updated yet the building itself is old old...well taken care of . A great space to enjoy any gathering. read more

fantastic neighborhood hangout. great food, wonderful service, various settings: bar, restaurant, large gathering space on indoor patio.

Have been to Hilltop twice now and had things I liked about it. The area really benefits from having a spot like this for dinner out without too much fuss or fancy, or having to go "into the city." It's a nice family friendly spot with definite regulars. The food is a little pricey for what it is IMO but I suppose they can get away with it in Edina. Food I've had: French onion soup: It's famous for a reason. So much goopy, drippy, delicious cheese and croutons from definitely real bread. This was great- and it seemed like maybe a chicken broth base? I appreciated that the base wasn't the usualy beefy super rich style. It would have been too overwhelming otherwise. Tuna melt: Satisfying, flavorful, plenty of tuna. Good bread. Pear chicken salad: This was great, good dressing, the chicken was cooked well Wings: Have had dry rub and Asian (wet)- very good. Reuben: This was weird. I'm a reuben afficiando. This Reuben had tons of sauerkraut (which I typically love) but only when the ratio is a little more balanced. The reuben I had was like 80% sauerkraut and VERY little meat. It was disappointing. I really wanted to love it because a reuben is one of my favorite foods. But would NOT order it again. Margarita: Skip. Too much sweet & sour. Too sweet overall. Tasted like a Minnesota suburb margarita. I typically like a refreshingly tart margarita, more tequila-forward, with fresh lime. This was not that. Carrot cake- delicious!!! read more

Such a fun little local hang! The French onion soup was cheesy perfection, and on Tuesdays they have half priced bottles of wine, which is basically the best deal in town! We cozied up to the bar, which was perfect. I'll be back! read more

My husband and I visited on New Year's Day for breakfast. It was a bit busy but we were seated fast, Denise was a nice server. There's a big free parking lot attached to the building. They play trendy music but it is family friendly and they have good food. I ordered the mimosa, yogurt parfait and the toast. I loved the French toast!! Touch of sweetness with the right texture. We're already planning on visiting again to try the dinner menu. read more

Great service and great patio! We were seated right away on Saturday night on the partially covered patio and it was such a beautiful night! For drinks we ordered a manhattan and pearfect mule and we buoyed both drinks. We started with the sweet potato fries and recommend if you're a fan of that type of fry! For entrees we got the Cuban and turkey burger and really enjoyed both, but the Cuban was the favorite! read more

I had such a great brunch here! I ordered the salmon eggs Benedict and it was absolutely delicious with perfectly cooked salmon and yummy hollandaise. I also tried a mimosa and it was a perfect balance. The atmosphere was cozy but modern, and the service was friendly. I'll definitely be back to try more off their menu. read more

The Hilltop is a neighborhood hot spot. It's great for groups, family-friendly, and a perfect choice for happy hour or meal before a night out. The service is great! Our server Laurie was excellent. She was friendly, knowledgeable, attentive, and efficient; exactly what you want when enjoying a meal at the end of a long day. The food here is tasty and fresh. While they have somewhat limited vegetarian options, the options that they do have are really good! I usually go for the Greek salad. It's really light and refreshing--zippy vinaigrette, chewy dolmas, and the usual suspects of tomato, cucumber, feta, and onion. If you're dessert-minded, you will be very happy. I tried the carrot cake and was most pleased. Highly recommend. One word of warning: this is a popular place, so it can get pretty loud. It's a great place if you want a lively evening, but it's not great for quiet conversation. read more

A great place for a quick bite and a good burger! They do have a lot of other fare but it's great that they have Guinness on tap! Service can be slow during peak hours, well because it's peak! Do reserve a table ahead of time otherwise it's a bit of a wait as this place is quite popular any day of the week (yes, I've tried it). Very casual, friendly people, and good food! Hilltop is great-a family favorite. Consistently good food. Love the Asian salad-really good with Salmon. Parking lot can get full at times. read more

By far one of the best breakfast spots in Edina. Their omelettes are some of the best I've ever had. Highly recommend!!

The food was very good, however, the service was not. Our server (Denise) was so snippy that we were shocked by her behavior. I have been to this restaurant before and had a much better experience. read more

The house made veggie burger was definitely delicious with a Super flavorful sauce and excellent toppings. Served nice and warm too! The patio area (yet indoors) felt festive and cozy on a freezing (literally) MN night. Hilltop is a gem and the city of Edina is lucky to be the home for Hilltop! Hilltop is great! It truly is that "meet ya there" perfect neighborhood spot. Whether it's grabbing a drink with a friend or a family breakfast, this place is fantastic. I've never been disappointed with any of my food choices and most recently got to try the salmon Benedict which was fantastic. The cinnamon roll was also soooo good. I've tried their salads which are also great. The atmosphere is cozy and I love the zig zag seating arrangement. I always look forward to dining here because it's a trustworthy establishment and you can count on getting good service and a great meal for a good price. read more

Went there for the French onion soup with a date . I had the bowl she got a cup. I wished that I had gotten the cup as well. Waaay too much cheese. I couldn't taste the actual onion broth. Hers was perfect. Service was good Ambience was nice . I'll go back again. read more

Cool little place that tends to be a packed affair for lunchtime. Service was solid from start to finish even given the lunch rush. We started with the wings and French onion soup. The wings were fantastic - crispy with a very unique flavor reminiscent of those at Monte Carlo downtown (which are also highly rated themselves). The soup was a plus dish, but not quite the knockout I expected given its reputation. One caveat being that I'm not typically one to order French onion soup except at a place that has a "famous" one. For the main dish, the crispy chicken sandwich was uniquely flavored and also an above average combination. Not quite great, but solidly in the "good" category. All in all, The Hilltop was a solid destination and a surprising and unexpected wing venue that we'd definitely return to! read more

This is a great spot for a bite to eat in this neighborhood. There aren't many restaurants around and it offers a great selection of food. The service was extremely quick, for a super busy night! We got the burger, the ahi tuna, poke bowl and steak bites. For dessert, we got the gluten-free brownie with Sebastian Joe's ice cream, and that was to die for, the most amazing dessert. The reason why I gave it three stars was just that the food was average, outside of the brownie. The burger was extra salty, and the onion rings were undercooked. The tuna was super overdressed, which I normally like, but just was too drowned in sauce. The steak was cooked really well just not super flavorful. I really like the selection of food, and I will definitely be back to try other items! read more

GF friendly, good menu, a bit loud on a Saturday night but best choice near Methodist Hospital.

I came here a few weeks ago to have lunch with some co-workers. It's definitely an older crowd, but nothing wrong with that. I had the burger and it was honestly delicious, which I was not expecting. It was grilled to perfection. I definitely want to go back. Our server was friendly as well. read more

The place is nice but we found the food to be very bland. I would recommend it if you don't like spicy food but for us the food taste left a lot to be desired. The soup tasted like canned soup, their other entree was a take on chow mein but it was also lacking flavor. The place was packed so I am sure they have some good flavorfull dishes but the o es we ordered left us wanting more. I would say try it, you might like it. read more

This was my first time at the Hilltop and I loved it! The atmosphere was great, the booths were comfy and the vibes were spot on. I ordered a raspberry 75 cocktail, which was light and refreshing, and a turkey avocado sandwich with fries. The service was fast, the staff was friendly and the food was hot and tasty! I will definitely come back- especially because I want to check out their year round patio! Pro tip: Tuesdays have 1/2 price bottles of wine, and they have several that are only $30 regularly, so if you're looking for a deal, this is the place! read more

What a treasure Hilltop has in Blake! He is a gem of a person! Always friendly, always smiling, and always cheerful. We eat at Hilltop fairly often and enjoy the awesome customer service and staff. Hilltop is always a place we count on for a great meal and friendly service. Tonight, my daughter lost her airpods at dinner. We drove home to Mntka without realizing it. Once we did, we pinged the location back to Hilltop. Immediately, we called Hilltop and Blake answered. He stopped what he was doing and searched for the ear buds. We drove back to look, and shortly after arriving, I found the airpods in the parking lot. When I went into the restaurant to let them know, I found Blake, my daughter, and several people looking for the airpods where we were previously sitting that evening. It seemed so many people were pitching in with Blake leading the way. This is exactly what I'd hope to see, but I know few places would care enough. Thank you, Blake, for helping my kiddo look. Thanks for the small stuff that matters. Thanks for representing Hilltop in a way that will keep us coming back indefinitely. We appreciate you, including all the great and friendly staff. Thank you. We will be back! read more

I love this place. Consistently good food. Service has always been good too. I really like the vibe... It's almost like a supper club.

My 6-year-old said and I went here for lunch the other day and sat at the bar. The bartender was fantastic. Extremely knowledgeable of the menu and really helped us guide us in the right direction. They brought out my son's food very promptly, it was a great burger for a kid. I had the chicken sandwich, I enjoyed it but I think some other things in the menu I would probably like more. We'll definitely be going back though read more

We were really craving a proper brunch spot and this place did not miss. Was quite busy on a Sunday morning but with good reason. Definitely a staple for the locals. We didn't notice till it was too late but maybe ask to be seated outside if the weather is nice, it would make the experience almost perfect Had an Espresso Martini while we waited for the food, not the best Martini I've had but I wasn't really expecting much The food however was out of this world. I highly recommend ordering a cinnamon roll as it's absolutely delicious. The Short Rib Benedict is also phenomenal and perfectly seasoned. I could've eaten twice it was that good read more

We had our leadership dinner here (group of 15) & our server Alexa was the best! Oh my gosh was she on top of it! The drinks were phenomenal, and the food was even better! They had a great selection of gluten free options. I had one of their sandwiches with gluten free bread and I would definitely get it again! A great place for breakfast! Tables fill up quickly on the weekends so definitely consider making a reservation ahead of time, especially for larger groups (6+). When I visit the Hilltop with friends or family it is a requirement to split the French toast or a stack of chocolate chip pancakes - both amazing recipes. Other than that, their Benedict's, avocado toast, and steak & eggs are other great options for breakfast entrees. I love that their sauces, salsas, and desserts are made fresh in house. You can certainly tell! If you're visiting for dinner, I highly recommend a slice of carrot cake and an espresso martini to finish the night. The 4 season patio is a fun option for a mid sized group to rent out for an event - bridal/baby shower or birthday celebration. The patio recently got revamped as well - check it out! read more
