Got a groupon to try my first Brazilian wax! The girl Anna who does the waxing was great! She talked to me the whole time and i laughed and was nice and distracted. Sure it hurt but within seconds it was fine. no bumps, irritation or burning afterwards. It's been a week and still looking amazing and no skin irritations! I love my hair!!! I have been going to Donna Jean for over 3 years, and I can't imagine a better stylist. Every hair color and cut has been amazing-- I carry her cards in my wallet because people are always stopping me to ask who does my hair. I cannot possibly rave enough about Babalouise!! I've been going there for a few years now and always had terrific service and results but I have never been so impressed as when I began seeing Lauren. She is, without a doubt, the best stylist I have ever had! I had a disaster with an at home coloring product which turned my hair a level 1 black (not my color!) When I came to see Lauren, she had some of the other stylists come over to give their recommendation on the lightening process because it was such a big endeavor and she wanted to make sure it was perfect. Lauren didn't stop there - she worked continuously for SIX WHOLE HOURS to meticulously put in tons of foils. She ended up staying past closing to get it as good as it could possible get. When I came back a few weeks later for the second step in the process, she worked for ANOTHER SIX HOURS STRAIGHT putting in even more highlights to make it look lighter overall. Even the receptionist, Marie, stayed, playing music and laughing with us! We talked the entire time and really hit it off. Lauren's dedication meant the absolute world to me! Both times, I left the salon in tears - I don't cry very often but I was so blown away by how well I was treated and cared for. She went above and beyond and is absolutely wonderful! After a bad experience at Scream, I found BaBalouise on here. I booked an appointment for a full foil and haircut with Meegan. Parking was easy, right out front on the street. Everyone was very friendly the moment I walked in. Meegan was friendly and excited about my ideas for my hair. She told me flat out her rates before we got started, I really appreciated that. She was chatty when I wanted to be and quiet when I felt like reading. The interior is cute and simple in style. Babalouise is a straight-up, no nonsense, get your hair cut perfect in an easy going kind of place. You won't be worried when you're sitting in the chair if you know what I mean. I'm sure all the stylists are great, but if you're lucky enough to get an appointment with Joie, you'll come home and look at yourself in the mirror and think, "DAMN I look good!". No joke. I told her what I DIDN'T want to look like and she cut my hair exactly like I wanted it. She's a natural at what she does. Beyond that, the salon is clean, has a good vibe and good feng shui, and they have some great teas to drink while you wait - which is never long. Last time I was there I discovered a new brand/flavor of tea that was delicious. I recommend this place over any salon I've ever been to in the west coast. Great prices too. read more

I will never go here again. The girl that I saw has absolutely no business working with men's hair. She consistently talked about her previous party days while chopping away at my do without regard to my input, and when I complained about the final product, I was given a bill without comment. I travel 3-4 weeks a month and and have to deal finding new stylists almost every month. This experience was terrible. read more

This review comes in two parts: first and last experience. Five stars to my first experience with the esthetician, Rikki. She was professional, friendly, and attentive to my concerns. Careful to keep the wax at a good temperature. I felt welcomed and excited to finally find a good person to do my brows. Zero stars to my last experience with Rikki. She never showed up for my appointment and never called to apologize or invite me back. My appointment was booked well in advance and I physically spoke with someone on the phone in the appointment confirmation call. Showed up on time and waited for 45 minutes. Thankfully, the stylist on duty was helpful and tried calling Rikki a couple of times to see where she was. No answer. I shrugged it off as traffic or personal emergency, but the fact that I still haven't heard from her (three months later) tells me otherwise. Sarah saved me! So, back when i was young and whatnot, i used to dye my hair every color imaginable. I was pretty good at it and did it all myself. Then, for a novel change, i decided to go back to my natural color for awhile. that ended up lasting about a decade. go figure, getting old. So, a couple weeks ago, i get a wild hair and decide to dye my hair again, go for a little change. I forget that I'm out of practice, and pick up a box dye down at freddys. Doh. pick up another to try to fix it. Double-Doh. It was truly a horrendous shade of red, and a whole lot of regret. So I bit the bullet and scheduled an appointment down at Babalouise with Sarah. I figured at best, I'd be going brunette or something with reddish tones, since red can be hard to get out and, yeah, i'd really messed it up.... She got it ALL out! we were talking about going purple for the hell of it, but when I saw the pale blond when she lifted it, i decided to have a little fun with that for a while. It looks great! Better: Sarah was super flexible & patient with me (i was hungover and indecisive), helped me figure out what colors might look good / fit my mood, and worked with me while i tried to make up my mind. she gave great options and great advice. and better yet, made me feel totally comfortable with just the right amount of conversation for my frame of mind -- not too much, not too little and totally chill -- plus she got my hungover self some coffee! Still the best place in Seattle--Cindy is great at what she does, a fantastic communicator, and really does a fantastic job of interpreting what you say (even if it's not in hair-lingo). Every time I come in, I tell her super unhelpful things like "I think it's getting mullet-y in the back when Jupiter is in retrograde...is it getting mullet-y in the back?" and she magically manages to fix whatever totally OCD tiny thing I brought up, and give me a cut that's cute, grows out great, and is low-maintenance. I just moved out to Chicago and got complimented on my cut--which is a month and a half old, and, yep, still looks adorable. I'm coming back for Block Party...I wonder if I can find the time for a trim while I'm in town? read more

After not being cool enough for Zero Zero (the haircut was for someone far trendier than me), not enjoying the too-good-for-schedules of Vain (along with the price bump after waiting half an hour when I wasn't a walk-in), not being able to continually afford Gene Juarez, and my old stylist moving into a more maternal role, I finally went with all good reviews, and made an appointment with Ava from Babalouise. Thank god I did because now I have a stylist who is funny, has cool hair (the last two stylists have had... less than pleasing hair... and the one before them was bald), and can actually cut hair according to a lifestyle rather than a trend. Ava listened to my needs (low-maintenance, chunky layers, parted on the correct side of my head, able to grow out to look better) and performed far above what I had hoped. Not only that, she did the wigs for a KISS cover band and taught them how to walk in platform boots. Thanks to Ava, I now have hair that I'm proud to have on my head (rather than hoping that it's not looking as bad as I thought it did when I left the house) and not worry about messing with. It's bouncy and shiny and actually style-able. Yay! Street parking is fairly easy and the location next to the Sneakery can't be beat (though it may hurt my wallet after a while). The prices are about on par with Gene Juarez's (she charges $42), but not having to deal with downtown traffic or the staff of Gene Juarez is definitely worth the drive into Ballard. Besides, if the bridge goes up, there's always Cafe Besalu within driving distance for showing off the new 'do. read more

I went there tonight just wanting a double process color, and was talking into getting a haircut as well. I tried to explain I was growing my hair out, and really didn't want a cut. I eventually got talked into a trim, which would have been no big deal by itself. The stylist gave me layers that make my hair look choppy and thin and some very short- there was a big difference between the top layer and bottom in length, considering my hair is above shoulder length. She did a very good job on the color, but I am very upset and in tears about my haircut- it will take me years to grow out the overly short layers and I have no idea what to do with my hair in the mean time. I wish she could have respected my wishes and not pressed to cut my hair. Whatever color damage I would have sustained would have been a million times more preferable than this unflattering haircut. read more

I moved here from Boston three years ago and have not had a decent hair cut for less than $65 since. Babalouise was exactly what I have been searching for. My hair stylist was Nigel who is an incredibly fun excentric man with tons of experience. I had a blast chatting with him and his cute little pooch while he cut my hair. Thank goodness my favorite stylist has now moved on to another salon. The owner of Babalouise is one of those people who think everyone should love her dog, no matter how it behaves. A beauty salon is not a place for a barking dog. You know how loud it gets when a dog barks inside the house? Imagine it in a long, narrow room with high ceilings. Not exactly a relaxing way to spend an hour. Dogs that don't behave should not be forced on the public, and especially not on clients who are paying for a relaxing beauty experience. read more

Holly knows her way around a short haircut, people! Some stylists either don't go short enough, or pull off the guard and go for bald, but Holly provides STYLE and you feel like a Farrow or a Dench or a Seberg, not a GI Jane.
