I visited Ba Sa on Bainbridge Island for the first time and was really looking forward to the experience. I understand that working in restaurants can be tiring and stressful, but as a customer I felt unwelcome by the way I was treated. I was served pho without a spoon, and rice with only a knife and fork -- which made it difficult to enjoy the meal properly. I also noticed that water was not refilled unless I asked, while other customer, received more attentive and cheerful service. I don't think this was intentional, but it made me feel discriminated against and disrespected. These small actions ruined what could have been a wonderful dining experience. We ordered the Spicy Truffle Wontons, Chili Prawn Noodles, and Short Rib Stir Fry Tumeric Noodles. The dishes all looked pretty and tasty. The Spicy Truffle Wontons were different than your usual spicy chili oil wontons, but still tasty. The Chili Prawn Noodles were good with a simple light flavor, but I would've preferred more flavor to it. The Short Rib Stir Fry Tumeric Noodles was my favorite. Both the noodles and short rib meat had great flavor. Would love to come back to try that dish again and some other things. Place was very cute; we sat outside. This was quite a disappointing meal for us! Went in around noon on a Saturday. This place had a lot of good reviews so I was expecting a lot from this place. The wontons tasted good. Nothing special, but it wasn't bad. The eggplant and tofu were also pretty tasty. The best dish that we ordered. The clams were TERRIBLE. It was so sandy. I could not get the taste out of my mouth after eating one. This was quite disappointing. The crispy shrimp noodles were a miss as well. The shrimp itself was fine, but the noodles were mushy and tasted bad. Not sure what they were going for in terms of flavor but as soon as I had one bite I did not try for seconds. Liked it better after trying it another couple of times. The variety of proteins, like their karaage chicken, together with the presentation and variety overall across their menu, make it a pretty decent spot. I had a better experience just getting a single bowl of soup or a single sandwich than on previous visits where I was trying a lot of different sides. All in all, it's still not quite a destination restaurant to me but it's worth trying if you're already on the island and you're partial to modern takes on Vietnamese food. It's in a nice location with a solid outdoor patio space, and the service is friendly. As restaurants go on Bainbridge, it's pretty decent. read more

Came to check out another "that place looks good" on my foodie list. Made reservations before we got onto the ferry going on a Saturday early afternoon. Would suggest calling beforehand. Menus consists of lots of my favorite Vietnamese foods with a fusion twist. We ordered the rib eye pho, chicken karaage banh mi and the chili oil prawn noodles. Keep in mind they tend to stay busy, wait times will vary. The banh mi flavors might've been my favorite. The karaage was nicely seasoned and crispy. The slaw and pickled veg/jalapeños were the perfect pairing in flavors with the chicken, so good! Would order this again. The pho was good--nothing crazy, I loved the Chinese donut that came with it to dip with the broth. Lastly, chili oil prawns with noodles were familiar yet new. Prawns were large and chili oil flavor was yummy, not spicy at all. Loved that they also mixed the noodles in the chili oil sauce! Great dining experience, delicious food and attentive staff. Absolute MUST for lunch or dinner on Bainbridge! I stopped by with my dogs and they were able to seat us on their dog friendly patio, which was lovely. The wonton itself was good the spicy sauce for it was meh~ chili lime calamari - love this! The pieces were big, portion size is good, was cooked perfectly and got that crunch to it fire roasted clams - I enjoyed this a lot, very flavorful, and clams were bigger than I thought it would be. The amount they give was great as well. chili oil prawns noodles - 50/50 about this. The prawns were massive and flavorful delicious. The noodles were a bit over cooked and didn't have much flavor to it. Overall, this is on the pricier side of a Vietnamese fusion restaurant. The service was excellent even when they're busy. The shrimp was good. For mains we got: Chili prawn noodles, the presentation was good, but the flavor was lacking. It tasted mostly of oil, and needed some garlic or salt added. The bokchoy was bland, tasted boiled. -beef pho, the broth flavor was lacking, but the meat was really good. The Chinese donut was also a nice touch. -duck salad, the duck was really good, very well seasoned. I was happy to see a Vietnamese restaurant on this touristy street of the island. We tried everything from the buns, ribeye pho soup, beef,with rice, cocktails, and so on and enjoyed our dinner after a day of exploring. I would suggest passing on the wontons as ours were a little dry and salty, but maybe it could just be a bad batch. This is definitely my favorite restaurant to go to when we go to Bainbridge Island!! Sometimes I would want to take the ferry to go to Bainbridge so I can eat at Ba Sa! Everything on the menu was very good and flavorful. I really enjoyed the taro egg rolls, spicy truffle oil wontons and the chili prawn noodle dish. The lemongrass lamb vermicelli noodle was good at first but then it got way too heavy and a little bit gamey so we were a bit sad about that dish. And I do agree that some of the dishes on the menu are definitely on the pricier side for the portion that you get but we loved our dining experience here each time. It does get very busy depending on the time and day you go so you may have to wait awhile to get seated. So be prepared! One great thing is they are dog friendly on the patio seating area! I love the food and the staff here. The reliability of the quality of meals and drinks has been constant over the years. My gripe is with the waitlist system. I came here once with my family visiting from out of town, including young kids. We got on the list and saw it'd take an hour, so we strolled up and down Winslow. Then when we were told we were up next we came back, but had to wait another half hour. By the time we got to our table, everyone was cranky and starving. There were 4 of us, celebrating a milestone for our daughter and this is where she wanted to dine. We got outdoor seating near the heaters. We saw that many of the dishes were fusion Vietnamese dishes that were sort of elevated. We ordered the Sauté Beef Vermicelli (Bun Bo Nam Bo) and Curry Chicken. Despite it not being fully authentic both dishes were delicious and were pretty good portion sizes! Stopped in to this nice comfortable place with a. Fairly large group of 7 of us so that may have put a bit of. Strain on them on a Saturday afternoon. Maybe due to that I just wasn't much of a fan. Someone in the group has a shellfish allergy and was told that almost everything has oyster sauce in it so he couldn't have it, including the ribeye, which they said was marinated in oyster sauce. So he settled for a simple noodles and broth just to find after eating part of it that it had pieces of the ribeye in it. We brought it up as an issue since we were told he couldn't have the ribeye then confusingly we were told it was fine and he can continue to eat the noodles and broth with the ribeye. We were never told why it was fine now but not before we ordered. I got the pork banh mi but it seemed to be all Bread. 30% of the banh mi felt like I was just eating two slices of bread with some seasoning and slivers of some veggies. I had really high hopes for this restaurant especially after seeing all the social media influencers hype this place up on my IG feed. But nothing was good at all and not authentic Vietnamese food in my opinion. I've had so much Viet food in my life time and this did not make the cut. Right when we walked in, there were 10 wait staffs just hanging near the bar/kitchen and nobody managing the front entrance. So my friend and I were looking at eachother like you have this many staff but not one can come help watch the front and seat us... Now on to the food, trust me the food looks better than it tastes. Our truffle shrimp and pork wonton just does not taste like a real Asian wonton. I'm Asian and know how to make good wonton, I don't understand how you can mess up on something that's classic to Asian food cuisines. The dough was very doughy at the top like it was not done. The filling was tough like it needed some fat to balance the texture the of meat filling. So yea texture was all wrong. The razor clams was way over cooked. I was honestly chewing for days and gave up and just swallowed it hole. I never ever had over cooked razor clams before. How can you over cook clams it was terrible. Imagine chewing on rubber bands. That's the texture it was giving. The bun cha Ha Noi, I seriously don't know what happened to this traditional Vietnamese dish. When you go to a Viet restaurant and order this dish, they give you a lot of herbs and lettuce to wrap your noodles and meat in, NOT 1 piece of lettuce ‍. How do you expect me to wrap with 1 piece of lettuce with all the noodles and meat. Also, the nuoc cham, I dont even know if it was nuoc cham to be honest. It came out in a big soup bowl, warm and our meat was dunked in it. I've never had that served to me before in any Viet place. The nuoc cham also just tasted like water. No fish sauce, lime flavor at all. The lap skirt steak was nothing unique. I thought it would have a umami taste with the tamarind nuoc cham. But again no fish sauce taste. Just tasted like regular American tough steak. This chilies were also not even spicy. Thai chili is supposed to be spicy, where the spice yo??? My friend and I drove very far to Bainbridge Island just to try this and spent almost $200. It was not worth it and we were both very disappointed. read more

I ate here in October 2023. The food overall was very good but I am specifically writing this review in regards to the SIZZLING LEMONGRASS LAMB that was on the menu at that time. That was the greatest dish I have ever had the honor to consume. And I think it's important to add that I live in Las Vegas and make it a point to eat at all the best restaurants. But I think about this lamb almost daily, it haunts me. Not to be graphic but following the consumption of the meal that day I looked forward to each and every burp because they gave me the opportunity to relive it. Since then, I have searched Vietnamese restaurants where I live and have googled recipes but to no avail have I found a dupe. I have seriously contemplated making the pilgrimage back to Bainbridge just for this lamb. Now, I have kept tabs and see that the menu changes periodically.
