    Scallop and Tuna
    Alex T.

Probably one of the best value places I've ever been to for Poke in my life. For a cute little spot on Bainbridge island, the cost of my two 1/2 pound servings of Scallop and Tuna didn't even eclipse $27. The dining and vibes were amazing and the service was fast and efficient. The food was fresh and tasted amazing. Their sauces are also amazing as well. Very good reason why this place is rated a 4.8 on Google reviews and 4.7 on yelp.

The poke sho-ka-do box was a great option to try the different types of poke - i really liked the yuzu truffle salmon one! The special salmon bow was also really good and very tender. There's lots of seating outdoor and a few inside. It's right there when you exit the ferry terminal so very convenient! Service is nice and friendly!

We visited Hi Life during our day trip from Seattle! The service is what you would expect at a casual eatery. You decide what you want to eat and drink (order at kiosk). The staff will bring out the food to the outdoor dining by area. I found the truffle poke to be just mayo poke - it doesn't taste like truffle enough at all. I also didn't eat all the sides in my bowl. I'm used to paying for fish by the pound so it felt like wasted bowl space.

This place reminds me of a beach shack selling fresh fish by the sea. I enjoyed their salmon poke bowl though I wished the salmon pieces were cut a bit smaller. My friend mentioned that the fish wasn't fishy at all which is always a good sign. Their hojicha latte was pretty good too but I would probably try something different next time. The spam musubis seem to be a popular choice since they were already sold out by the afternoon. When I say beach shack vibes, I mean it. The place basically only has outdoor seating, and depending on where you sit, you might have to deal with a few flies or relentless sun. There are tables with umbrellas and folks are nice to share their shady space. Still fun experience nonetheless and great poke.

Took the ferry to Bainbridge and this was definitely a highlight. We split an octopus appetizer which was perfect. And we each got a poke bowl and split an ice cream. We felt portions were generous and the rice was perfect! I could see how local people would make this a regular stop!

The poke here is amazing. I only wish I had more time on this island to try more food at Hi life. Do not skip this one! Salmon poke with chili oil was to die for!

If you come to Bainbridge you HAVE to come here. Bainbridge is very much a one and done thing as far as touristy stuff goes, but this place alone has us planning on making another trip just to eat here. We got the nine sampler box and every single poke option was so fresh and tasty. Very good portions. Both soft serves were excellent, but the Suntory Whiskey soft serve blew my mind. Please don't skip it. The service here is excellent and so kind and everything was so good I had to go back up to the counter just to let them know and thank them.

    Chirashi bowl (happy hour $20)

I had the opportunity to hop on a ferry with my husband on a Thursday afternoon, to Bainbridge Island. We strolled down the town for about two hours and found a place to eat. We tried Hi Life as it had good reviews, and we got the Unagi bowl and the chirashi bowl. The unagi bowl was the best unagi I've ever had in my whole life..! I was so surprised how juicy and tender the meat was. The chirashi bowl was filled with seasoned raw salmon, tuna, octopus, imitation crab meat, spam and salmon roe. I highly highly recommend both dishes. I am sad this place is a ferry away. I would probably come to this restaurant every week if it was in the inlands. Service is nice, all very attentive. Restaurant has a opened seating area, and it's a pretty big space. I am so glad I tried this place for my washington trip.

My cousin took us here while we visited Bainbridge and it lived up to her hype. We got some kalbi ribs and a variety of poke to share among 3 adults and it was plenty, and everything was great. The fish was fresh and the flavors were amazing. Would absolutely come back next time we're in the area.

I got the spicy ahi tuna bowl and wow, it was huge. Everything was super fresh and full of flavor. The bowl is pretty big, so if you're someone who usually doesn't finish your food, you might want to share it. I also had a beer, and it was poured just right super cold and refreshing. All around a great poke spot located on Bainbridge Island, right off the ferry exit. It looks like an old gas station repurposed into a cute little poke shop. Perfect place to sit, relax, and take in the views. The service was great quick and welcoming.

Excellent poke bowls. The crab and seaweed salads are so good and the combination of everything in the bowl is perfect. I have tried the musubi rolls and they were just okay so I would pass on those next time :) You order at the counter. The workers have been friendly both times that I've gone. I heard that they have good soft serve which I'll have to try sometime!! There isn't a whole lot of seating but that hasn't been an issue either times that I've gone.

Absolutely amazing poke and a hidden gem on Bainbridge Island. Service was incredibly fast, I ordered the traditional salmon and scallop poke and they were incredibly flavorful and reasonably priced! I've had my fair share of poke and would definitely recommend this place whenever visiting bainbridge island. They have seating available indoors and outdoors. You're able to order online or in person up at the front. Parking: Free small lot right in front of the building

Best poke bowls on the island. These poke bowls do not disappoint and might be the reason to come check out bainbridge as they put many Seattle spots to shame!! Large chunks of super fresh fish. Large portions. The bowl fills you up! Service is quick and the seating is small but unique!

I expected more since there were plenty of good reviews, but I think we should've spent some more time searching. For context, we wanted a good sushi dinner - willing to spend a little more on special rolls, etc. I would maybe consider this spot again if you were to just come for some appetizers or regular rolls, but don't come here expecting phenomenal sushi. We got the pork belly lettuce wraps and the sweet coconut shrimp. The lettuce wraps were a highlight/our favorite and honestly I would come back for just these. The coconut shrimp was OK, but not anything to write home about. For sushi, we got the Black Widow and X-File special rolls, the chu-toro sashimi, and one yamagobo maki. The most expensive part, the chu-toro, was not as good as I'd expect it to be for the price point. I've had much better (cheaper) toro so this was the biggest let-down. The special rolls were good, but again, not great. I definitely favored the Black Widow roll, as the soft-shell crab was very yummy. Service was also lacking a bit. It was not busy but our waiter wasn't super attentive. Waters sat empty for a while at one point, and in general it just took a while in between visits.

However one of our big complaints about the way some sushi rolls are made is how large they are. You cannot possibly put a whole piece of 1 of these rolls in your mouth. It's more like 4 deconstructed bites, which is annoying to eat. The chirashi bowl was good but the rice had too much ponzu sweet sauce. We ordered the fresh wasabi and the potency wasn't as strong as in the tube but fresh is more flavorful, at least IMHO. The ambience and atmosphere was nice. Restrooms are located in the common area of the mall. Menu was extensive with non-fish items as well. Overall a solid place to go for dinner.

I also enjoyed my brief convo with one of the owners, Jamie Cancel. There's something really welcoming when meeting indie business owners whether from Oahu, Kauai, Maui, the Big Island or on the mainland. It's that genuine sense of ohana or family I've consistently experienced. Musubis were nicely wrapped and piping hot. That day it was sunny and breezy leaving Cafe Kai with the goods. The Mac salad could be a little sweeter like local Hawaiian style, and the BBQ chicken could use a little more teriyaki sauce. Just a bit dry from it being BBQ d on the grill. Just add a little more sauce would help soften & moisten the BBQ chicken. My daughter ordered the chicken Katsu, it was delicious, but it wasn't served with gravy on top or on the side like pictured here. It was served with a tiny condiment container of some type of sauce. Thankfully dine-in is back open again, so we got here on a Saturday morning around 11:20am to indoor seating that was nearly full and a small line that was forming at the front counter. Walls have a bunch of photo frames, and overall place felt very homely. They have a ton of Hawaiian style plates and even burgers and some seafood, though we and most others got the former to eat. I ordered their chicken and pork combo Hawaiian style plate, and my bestie got their chicken katsu Hawaiian style plate. Portions are huge for both plates and both also came with macaroni salad. They give you sooooo much meat no matter what you get. To go in slightly more detail: - Chicken and pork combo: both meats were flavored very well, and a little sweet too though pretty salty without using the rice as a palette cleanser. Chicken had more depth in its flavor; the pork's flavor was a little too much for my liking, and was slightly harder to chew. Both meats had some sauce hat went onto the rice itself. This didn't detract from my overall experience here, though. - Chicken katsu: we both agreed this was our favorite after exchanging pieces of each other's dish. The katsu is crispy and crunchy, and the chicken itself retained a lot of its juiciness. Katsu sauce on the side is honestly optional since the meat itself is already salty enough. This place does share extremely limited parking with Cakes of Paradise next door, so get here early or be prepared to drive around the area to find some. All the seats were filled, so we ordered everything to-go. We got the famous crispy ginger chicken, spam musubi, and chicken long rice. I was hoping for oxtail soup and asked about it--she explained they only offer it on certain days and recommended calling early in the morning to check, then getting there quickly because it sells out fast. Can't wait to come back and try it. Back at the hotel, we feasted. The crispy ginger chicken is famous for a reason--so flavorful, perfectly crispy, and somehow even better the next day. The chicken long rice was packed with noodles directly in the soup (not separately) so the broth had mostly soaked into the noodles, but it was still deeply flavorful and comforting. The spam musubi leans on the sweeter side, which is great if that's your thing. Overall, this place is all about heart, hustle, and seriously satisfying Hawaiian comfort food. Come early, expect a line, plan for parking--and you'll be rewarded.

Mostly, university students, I think. I like dim light atmosphere, unfortunately, I can't enjoy it much here. Too loud? Too dark? Or it's just not the right light bulbs, it got me dizzy. It was at night, it made the room even gloomy. Upon returning to the parking lot, the atmosphere is somewhat unsettling. This is particularly true for a woman walking alone. To access the parking lot, I had to walk through the darkness to the back of the building. Unfortunately, due to the narrow parking lot, one car was parked in a manner that blocked the exit way, requiring me to reverse all the way out. Overall fantastic staff, fantastic food, but I may not comeback because the vibe just doesn't suit me. This restaurant will most likely be very busy in the better location and fresh look.
