I'd definitely give this place a 5 star review for the food, however I gave it a 3 instead because of language barrier between the workers and customers. The few times I've been here, I was served in a timely manner however due to the old gentleman not being able to speak English, he may come off at rude. I went here as a community member recommended this restaurant and said it was the best pho in the area and....it was okay. I didn't think it was spectacular, it was very average pho. The biggest highlight is their portions! The large is LARGE and they give you a giant beef bone in it as well. The large can definitely feed two people. My first time here, I thought it would be like the Ba Le in Arlington but NO extremely limited menu here. I ordered bun rieu and the older male server (he might have been the owner I can see him talking to his wife in the kitchen) told me they only have pho or hu tieu and they no longer make sandwiches. I found this little joint on my way to Rockwall for a meeting. Came here for an early lunch on a Monday, only another table of customers inside. The family owners in the back is cooking and preparing for the day. This place is old, and it is a hole in the wall type of place. Old furniture, a bit dark inside and the bathroom has sticky floors. But guess what, that means you are here for their food. Ordered the special pho combo. Food came out quickly. The large bowl is not that big, more like a medium for me. The broth was a bit clearer than I would expect but after a quick taste I was blown away! Packed with flavor! Love the broth. The meat quality is not bad and the noodles are solid. It's hard to find authentic good Vietnamese foods in N. Texas, so I told my boyfriend we had to try this place for lunch because the ladies at the nail salon that we were at all highly recommended it. My daughter was craving for pho, so we went here. She ordered the pho tai, my boyfriend ordered beef stew noodle, and I ordered the seafood with pork clear noodle soup. We all loved it. After 5 years of going to this restaurant we moved out of Dallas and We now drive over an hour just to eat their pho. As people had stated the service is slow (since it's an older individual doing everything), but the food is worth it. Now that I've tried over a handful of Pho places in DFW, I can more confidently say that this is one of the better bowls I've had. So, let me just tell you my experience. I walked in and looked around. I saw the bakery checkout to the right and seating to the left, but other than that. No real clue if I was supposed to seat myself, wait to be seated, and no one really came out to tell me anything right away. As I looked around like an idiot the lady at the cash register yelled at me (she wasn't close and didn't walk around towards me, thus the yelling. haha) asking if I was dining in. I replied, yes and she screamed for me to sit anywhere. As someone approached me, they asked what I wanted. When I asked for a menu, they seemed to almost turn away as they said no. So I quickly replied with Pho before her back was turned. (This is off to a weird start) The place wasn't the most appealing, but not falling apart. Maybe more so dated and faded. The Pho came out pretty fast. The broth looked okay, nothing special. After the first taste, it surprised me. It was better than good and way better than it looked. I almost didn't want to add anything else to the bowl (but come on, you always gotta add chili oil). All the meats were good, the broth was delicious, and rib was so soft all the meat came clean off. The Broth was so full of beef flavor and somewhat oily (oil released from the bones during the cooking process). Definitely can tell it was boiled for hours and hours with no artificial beef flavoring. The broth was very clear and nothing settled to the bottom of the bowl after finishing the noodles and meat. Although I did not order a bahn mi because I was so full from the large bowl, I hear this is the place for them. Sometimes you have to go to a hole in the wall place to eat better food. This place ain't boujee or even the best service, but it's probably a better bowl of pho than most places I've had in all of DFW and US, if I'm being honest. Second time visiting because of positive experience from last. It appears that second experience disctedits the first due to a noticeable change in quantity and quality of XL Pho. See attached pix for differences (First time had 2 bones and more stuff for Pho) - inconsistent. Don't get the porkchop rice dish, it's just sad, and don't take the XL Pho. Driving through north Mesquite and was craving pho. Found this hole in the wall in the area and decided to give it a try. The guy behind the counter is a little slow to take the orders but he was nice and the food came right out. Food was definitely decent as the prices were great! The broth was light and good but it almost tasted like a chicken broth instead of beef broth for my beef pho? I could be mistaken but it was good nonetheless. Was in the mood for some comfort food today and pho came to mind. After reading some of the reviews (most good and the bad ones all had to do with the hilarity of the insulting staff) I had to try. Upon arriving I was handed a menu. I don't know jack's *%#~ about Vietnamese food so I asked the waiter what was good and what he recommended as I really do like everything and the more adventurous the better. He for real told me he doesn't have time for this and he's very busy with the other only 2 tables in here at the time. Worst service I've ever had and I didn't even get to finish ordering before I walked out. It's hard to find because they don't have a business sign just one that says food. First thing I noticed is that everything felt greasy. There was no one there to greet me and the bus boy ignored me when I asked if I should seat myself. After a few minutes of sitting at a table I saw a menu on a table that hadn't been cleaned yet and grabbed it. Also greasy! Then an older man came out of the back with a notepad and stood next to my table. So I asked him if he was ready to take my order. He nodded his head once and looked at me. So I pointed at the spring rolls and asked for them. Then he walked away and gave me a hold on motion with his hand. He seemed like maybe he was aggravated with the buss boy and that he was maybe needing someone to translate for him. So he didn't really come back to the table. Terrible. Menu at the counter has all the wrong price. You ask the old man behind what it is. He then tells you a crazy price not even in the menu by making it up. And he changes his answer when you ask a couple of different times. I wish I don't have to give you any star. Inconsistent and rip-off. Back then around 2011-12 it wasn't like that and we liked them. I was getting my Toyota Tundra serviced at Sport City Toyota serviced and looked for places around the area to get lunch. After checking Yelp, my friend found that this place was around a 20 minute walk from Toyota and so we decided to check it out. Place looks dated and dirty, but the smell was amazing. I thought I was in for a treat and found a special hole in the wall. Unfortunately that couldn't be further from the truth. Service was extremely slow and the waiter was a little goofy, but it's a small, family own place. My friend and I tried ordering some appetizers and dishes from the menu the waiter gave us, but the waiter said they only served pho during lunch. Would have been nice to know that before we looked through the menu. I ordered the beef special noodle soup (pho dac biet) while my friend ordered the chicken pho. The waiter told him that they don't have chicken pho so my friend ordered the same thing I did. After we ordered, the waiter noticed that my best friend is also a Vietnamese guy and went on a rant about how they cater their food towards the white people in the area before looking at me. I didn't understand and don't mind it once my friend explained what the waiter said, but that's such a weird thing to say to a customer. When the food finally came out, it smelled great. However, it didn't taste like beef pho at all. The broth was extremely sweet, and tasted more like chicken based broth with a lot of ginger and onion aftertaste. My friend was happy with his since he wanted chicken pho, but it didn't taste like beef pho at all. The noodles were also all clumped together and it was missing some meats that usually came with the pho dac biet. The waiter then told us they were out of some cuts of meat so they added more of what they did have. I would have been fine with this if they told me in the first place, but it would have been nice to know beforehand. Not telling your customers things and only revealing it when they asked or when the time came seems like a reoccurring theme. I really wanted to support small, local businesses, but the food and overall experience was lacking. The saving grace was that the prices are very affordable (in a time where a large bowl of pho is $12+, it's $9 here for their specialty pho). Maybe the other dishes that I wanted to order would be better than their pho, but I wouldn't go out of my way to try this place again at night for dinner. read more

Me: Can I get the bun bo hue? Man: No, get the pho or hu tieu Me: Uhhh...Why? Man: Cux we make the bbh for white people, you're not gonna like it. Lol! Wtf! This man is trolling me. I want some bun bo hue, damn it. Lol!! Actually, he was a really sweet man. Their bbh is cooked without the shrimp sauce, coagulated pork blood, and pork's knuckle b/c white people "don't know how to eat these weird stuff." These are essential ingredients for bbh, so I opted out the bbh and got the pho like the old man suggested. The small bowl was $6 and OMG, it was really small. Should have tasted the broth before I added some hoisin sauce, because it was a little salty. But it was still really tasty and flavorful. I think I've finally found something that is just as good as pho bang. I'm gonna come back next time to try their banh mi, hu tieu, grilled pork rice, shaken beef and fricking bun bo hue. The old man suggested all the above items except for bbh, but he can't stop me. This place looks super shady outside, but it's quite decent inside. Came here today for the first time , only because I was in the area. Ordered some pho to go . While waiting for my food to be prepared, I watched a domestic house roach help himself to a bean sprout that was laying on the floor . Even after witnessing that , yes I did proceed in still paying for and receiving my order. However, I did thoroughly inspect my order/ bag to make sure I wasn't transporting any little critters back home with me. The food smelt soooo good in my car while I had to make a 45 min commute back to my side of town. Despite what I had just learned about this restaurant, I almost wish I would have dined in so I could have enjoyed my soup hot and fresh. My pho was very delicious and nicely/ neatly prepared. Chances of me returning is very slim , mainly and mostly because I already have my designated pho spot/s. Do I recommend? Sure!!! This place is a diamond in the rough. It is set in a somewhat rundown row of shops and is a little hard to find, especially at night. No lit signage. The place is small, maybe 10 - 12 tables. And it is a mom and pop operation. Be prepared to hear them shouting back and forth in Vietnamese. But that just adds to the charm. And English is obviously a second language here. For instance, I noticed that my dish listed egg rolls along with the noodles. I asked if it did and got a nod. When my order came out there was a side of egg rolls that I didn't know I ordered. And they were great. And there were two egg rolls chopped up in my dish. Get the egg rolls. Obviously I am not an expert on Vietnamese cuisine. This place is amazing, we have been coming here for years. But the last 2 times we have tried they have been closed. Once was a Tuesday, they have always been closed Tuesdays but every site (Yelp/Google) stated they were open. I thought maybe they decided to be open 7 days a week...got there & they were closed. Wasn't too upset. But today we tried to come for dinner, arrived @6:10 and were told they now close every day at 6. It would be nice if these changes were updated on Yelp/Google. I had such a weird experience with this place back in February, and it made me wonder why this place is still opened. I was looking to buy Banh Mi togo. Usually I would go to Garland because there are more Vietnamese food places there, but I saw this Vietnamese restaurant in the area, so I wanted to try my luck here. I arrived at the restaurant and asked if they sold Banh Mi, the cashier/manager said no. As I and my mother were discussing among ourselves if we should order something else instead (in Vietnamese language), the cashier/manager told us in Vietnamese something along the line that the food they sold there was more for American taste because their main customers were locals living nearby AND suggested us to get food from somewhere else. The way they said it was not aggressive or offensive, but I walked out of there feeling quite dumbfounded. What kind of restaurant says that to their customers? I also low key found that attitude kinda rude, both to me and the people who were eating there at that time. Neither I nor my mother did anything weird that day when we walked into the restaurant, so I am still very confused to this date why the people worked there was like that. Though it does not matter much, because I probably won't come back there ever again. I would have given this place negative star if I could. And based on some of the previous negative reviews, it seems like this place has customer service problem. Believe me, it was not language barrier.
