Came here with friends and tried the frose on a hot summer day and it was bigger than expected and so good! Made with vodka and rose how can you go wrong? I absolutely love this place! Super convenient location and friendly service. The lunch rush starts around 12 and it gets really busy given all of the office workers in the area. My favorite is the lemongrass beef vermicelli bowl which has a really good glaze and the imperial rolls it comes with are super good - ate every last crumb in that bowl! I was so excited to try some pho in Seattle. I've always heard that Vietnamese food is supreme here. The food would have been fine if not for the completely unjustifiable price. Somehow my small bowl of pho with a Vietnamese coffee came out to $40 after tax and tip. So this review will be based on a $40 expectation. First of all, the bowl was very small for the price. They only have one size. The broth was nothing to write home about, but came out piping hot, perfect for a cold rainy day. All the bowls come with a combo of 2 meats. I opted for an additional beef ball for the crazy price of $5.50. For one beef ball. The rice noodles were unacceptable. Every time you would pull one, it disintegrated. I brought this up to the waitress and her only response was "sorry we must have the broth on too hot this morning". The Vietnamese coffee tastes like it's premade in the back in batches. If you do decide to come here, skip the bland, mushy, and exorbitant pho. Go for the pho ga tron if you must pick one. It has wonderful flavor. I must start by saying that I love the original Ba Bar location (near Seattle U). Actually I haven't been for awhile so not sure if all locations are kind of going downhill or if that location is still good and it's just this SLU location that was sub par. I've been to this location at least 4 times within the last year or so and each time has been kind of a disappointment but each time I sort of though it was just a one off. Now it seems to be a regular thing so I probably won't be back. I came for a weekday lunch and this place was packed. The service was terrible though -- we were left looking at the menu for like 15 minutes and it was nearly impossible to flag our waiter down. Once we got our food (chicken bun for me) it was fine - but really small portion of noodles (though there was a lot of chicken). The flavor of the nuoc mam (fish sauce) wasn't great. The next time I came for HH and got the imperial rolls and a slushy cocktail. The imperial rolls are usually one of my fave items but this time, the skin/wrapper was so tough that I had to just eat the filling and leave the tough wrapper. I don't know if it had been sitting or what, but it was sort of like when you have a tough sausage casing and it's impossible to break down. Ugh, disappointing. Finally, I came about 2 weeks ago for a group lunch w/ coworkers and ordered the bun bo hue which I had before at the Seattle U location and previously enjoyed. This time, the bun bo hue was SOO spicy and the spice overtook the entire noodle soup -- there weren't really any other flavors that are typically present in bun bo hue like lemongrass, etc. I literally could not finish the bowl. Disappointing again. For the price you pay here, I'd way rather go to a hole in the wall or lesser known Vietnamese place. Today I had another undercooked order so I decide to post this review. I ordered a Combo Vermicelli for takeout and everything in there seems to be undercooked. There is still blood in the thicker parts of the chicken and sausage. Vermicelli seems to be stir with slime. The only thing that was cooked properly was the Imperial Rolls because they are fried. This is not my first time I have encountered it, by the way I had undercooked rice noodles last time. I was feeling a bit under the weather, so I went with my "go to" food.... pho. My wife and I shared an order of the Crispy Imperial Rolls. She had the oxtail pho and I had the chicken pho. My wife raved about her oxtail pho. That was the first time we've seen or tried that type of pho. She especially liked the meat which included the customary two pieces of oxtail. They also included a couple extra pieces of what seemed like better quality beef. I tried one and will say that it was delicious.... it tasted like deli cut roast beef. The imperial rolls were also delicious and were accompanied by the usual lettuce, vermicelli noodles, and dipping sauce. It also included a mixture of diced carrots and what I believe was diced daikon, which was a nice compliment. I thought my chicken pho was just okay. The broth wasn't completely bland but just lacked as much flavor as I'm use to in pho. The slice of lime saved it a bit. Customer service was okay at best when we went. It was non-peak hours (between lunch and dinner) and we still waited a few minutes to be shown a table. It was actually funny as the bartender saw us standing there and looked around like where the hell is the waiter, and eventually came from behind the bar to take us to our seats. Later on, we realized that it was due to the fact that the waiter was incredibly busy trying to flirt with two women at the bar. Honestly, I watched as he spent a grand total of a minute serving an elderly couple but spend maybe 20 minutes talking story with the two women. I guess he was never taught to float around when you have time to see how customers were doing and if they need anything else. This Ba Bar was steps away from the sound in South Lake Union. I love the location and the outdoor seating. We ordered a lobster garlic noodle, bo bun hue, and the green curry. The lobster garlic noodle was salty and the bo bun hue was really limey. They were both just okay. I probably won't get the bo bun hue again. First experience here was mediocre. I didn't really want to order a full bowl of pho, and just wanted the broth so I asked for a side order of beef broth. The broth was super salty so I asked the waiter if this is what it normally tastes like and he informed me that 'it's salty because I only ordered the broth. If I put in noodles and the other toppings the broth isn't salty.' Am I missing something here? Shouldn't the broth NOT be salty so that when I add a bunch of other toppings/sauce the broth will become balanced?? Popped in here for lunch on a Thursday a little after noon and we were seated right away (after showing proof of vaccination of course). QR code menus and servers fully masked, this place felt like they were taking every precaution to ensure a safe and healthy dinning experience. Shortly after we ordered we looked around and the place was very busy! A sure sign of a great restaurant to be doing this type of lunch business while most of the offices in the area are still allowing "work from home". One bite into my lunch and I understood the crowd. This place is (Pho)tastic! Ba Bar has been on my list of places to try for some time now. The other night I was really just craving some pho and my wife said "hey, why don't we just try Ba Bar?". The ambience inside Ba Bar is great! It's fancier than your normal Vietnamese restaurant but at the same time it feels friendly/social. We started off with drinks, I chose the Rotating IPA choice of the day and my wife selected a Wasabi Hot Toddie(Amazing! 100% try this). For an app we went with the Beef Lumpia Rolls. Our rolls actually arrived after the main entree but it's ok because these rolls were delicious! Seriously, they were so good and the sauce provided was a perfect compliment to the crispy rolls. For Entrees we both got the Beef Pho. After all remember Pho is the reason we are here in the first place.... The Pho hit the spot just right! It was really (Pho)tastic. The Beef was served on top of the broth maybe at a rare temp but continues to cook to your liking depending how long or deep you soak within the broth. Some places due this and some don't but I find it a very nice touch. I would reccomend Ba Bar to anyone looking to get some seriously delicious Vietnamese food downtown Seattle. Would imagine this place is much busier during work days due to all the tech and medical folks working in the area. In addition to the restaurant, they have a small bakery up front with macarons and small cakes. The dinner menu is pretty small and printed on one sheet of paper. They have appetizers, vermicelli noodles, rotisserie items, and soups (including pho). They also have a good number of cocktails on the drink menu. I got the combo vermicelli noodles which came with grilled chicken, beef and pork sausage, and 2 grilled shrimps, along with a salad and fish sauce. The portion was decent. As for the taste, the meat tasted fine, but the meat didn't have much juice, and the fish sauce isn't enough flavor for both the vermicelli and the salad. Came here with a party of 9 on a Friday evening. We were sat pretty quickly and service was prompt. Asked our waitress (she was vietnamese) if the bun bo hue was good and she said it was pretty authentic so we ordered that and the chicken wings. The wings were crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside with the perfect amount of flavoring. Bun bo hue on the other hand, SO NOT authentic. I was extremely disappointed in it (I'm vietnamese) and it was definitely catered to be Americanized which is funny because our waitress had mentioned how a lot of items on the menu were Americanized but the BBH wasn't. It was lacking the lemongrass flavor and was way too oily. When our waitress came back around I mentioned to her that the BBH did not taste authentic and she admitted that there was no shrimp paste added to it... how are you going to claim that the dish is authentic when there's no shrimp paste in it -_- The imperial rolls were also ordered among our group and everyone seemed to really enjoy it (I had a piece and it was good, very well made and crispy!)
