In Chicago for work and my coworker recommended this place for dinner for us and she was right! Everything was cooked to perfection and had great flavors. Our server was attentive and friendly and gave a good recommendation on my drink (I'm sorry but I forgot the name of it). The broth they use for the garlic prawns is just perfect to dip the donut in they give you with it. We got the pork belly, prawns, noodles to all split and it was enough food for two. The food tasted fresh and was filling. (Not too filling, just right.) I ordered a Vietnamese tea with almond milk and less sweet. It was good. Just right. Food is edible but far from the best Vietnamese nearby. I didn't find the pho that flavorful. The broath for the pho doesn't really taste like most pho broth and in my opinion didn't hit the mark. The portion was decent, the noodles were chewy and perfect texture, the chicken thigh was cooked nicely and not dry, but I wasn't a super fan of the house made beef & pork sausage. First of all, the Pho flavors weren't there anymore, it tasted like regular beef broth from supper market, all the condiments were thrown under the bowl of Pho Togo including a wedge of lime, a whole branch of Basil and jalapeño...etc,. And rare beef slices juiced soak into noodles, just lost appetite, even asked them to cooked the rare beef on the side note. Experience that before so asking many times, still not doing it. Second, Com Ga Hội A was very disappointed, missed a lot of umami. I'm not recommending this place anymore since I had been here for many years and tried most of the dishes. Seeing a lot of reviews about undercooked meat and "white washed" food. I'm speaking as a South East Asian person who grew up in the Bay Area that this is the best Vietnamese restaurant I have had. Yes, if you order noodle soup dishes, your beef is going to be raw. That's just how it's served at any authentic Vietnamese place you go. I haven't been back to Ba Bar is since years since I moved out of Seattle. Came back today and I was soooo incredibly satisfied. The flavors were on point and my oh my it was just SO delicious. Fish sauce and more fish sauce please!! I could eat here everyday if I lived here. I just rolled my pork, garlic, peppers, and noodles in the lettuce leaf and nom nom nom'd. First, we neglected to see the sign our front that their dishwasher wasn't working, so we quickly learned we would be eating out of take out containers without proper tableware. So that changed what we initially wanted to order. We ended up trying the following: - Sai Gon Chicken Wings - Very good. Meaty, juicy, and full of flavor. - Pho Tai Nam - Good. Good quality beef. Seems a bit expensive for what we got though. - Combo Vermicelli Noodles - Good. Pretty standard offering. It was good, but not special. - Passionate Pandan Cake - Excellent. The surprise hit of the meal. Very light, not too sweet. I considered getting a 2nd slice. Service was friendly, but given how quiet the day was, surprising slow and inattentive. Such an awesome spot in South Lake Union if you're looking for a drink and a delicious bowl of pho! Fast-paced during lunch time, definitely is a popular spot. I got a seat in the bar and was happy to find that they have fast WiFi, which was great for me since I was working remotely. If you are looking to get some work done, make sure your laptop is charged up - they don't have any outlets to use near the tables. I went with a bowl of brisket pho and it came out quickly. It was delicious! The broth is a little sweeter than I tend to like, but I feel like you're either a sweet broth lover or you're just not - ya know? It was still delicious and I ate every bit of it, it was the perfect lunch for a rainy day. Service is great and the bartenders are really friendly. Definitely recommend! Interesting array of different Vietnamese-esq fare at this South Lake Union outlet of a local chain. There are a few outside seats to complement the interior seating. There are 2 sections - front and back, with a bar area on the left. Tables and booths fill the rooms in various configurations. Service is uneven. It took a while for our server to take the order. Order to service was quick. Meal end to check took a while. The place was about half full, so not sure how to explain that. Tried Pho Ga and also combo vermicelli. The broth in the pho is a little different. Perhaps a little sweeter than I'm used to? It is served with the usual complements - basil, bean sprouts, jalepeno and a small bowl with sriacha and hoisin sauces. A healthy portion of chicken is sliced atop the broth and a knot of noodles and topped with a soft-boiled egg. Combo vermicelli is a knot of al dente vermicelli noodles surrounded by slivered chicken thigh, a trio of shrimp, a sliced pork imperial roll and a patty of beef/pork sausage, plus some greens, cukes, bean sprouts and peanuts. The different flavors and textures make for an interesting experience. It was good, but TBH I should have had the pho. Even though a cup of fish sauce is served as dressing, tt just seemed like it was missing some type of sauce to pull it all together. Plenty of other things to try on next visit. The worst service I've ever experienced. -After entering and waiting a while by the "wait for host" sign, a guy comes up chewing his gum with his mouth opened and holds up two fingers. We say "yes, two people" assuming that's what he meant and he points us to follow him without a single word -he seats us in the small high table clearly for drinks then leaves. We have to ask someone else if we can sit at one of the many empty tables (and we do) -the first guy comes to our new table (no hello or introduction still) and after taking our order just asks "so are you guys going to be here til 6?" We're taken aback and look at the current time (little past 5) and answer maybe/we're not sure and then he explains that they have a large group coming in then and have to kick us out. Then clarifies he'll have to move us to a different table. We tell him we'll move now. The last part all happens while he's fixing his pants and retucking his shirt in front of us. We honestly should have left at this point but we were just so confused at this interaction and weren't thinking clearly. And I'm pretty certain he's the manager because he was dressed differently than other waiters and was at the bar on his laptop. He had someone else bring out our food and give us the bill and never checked on our table again. Despite being a $20 bowl of pho, this dish contained less than half the contents we've received from small orders at more affordable joints.
