So this is my spot... I mean I've been the duke for while. With that said I cannot proclaim to know the ins and outs of the menu cause quite frankly I only get the Cali here. I've heard many a great things about all of their food here and I'm sure it's all great ... But let's be real... The staple is the California burrito. I would call myself a Cali burrito connoisseur to say the least. I grew up in the area and had hundreds if Cali's in my day. Started from a hole in the wall down the road... Bounced around the city to find the best... And landed at a place called Tacos Tijuana during its grand opening. It was love at first bite. And even after the rebrand to Aztek, the quality remained top notch. As Cali burritos go... Aztek sets the bar... And the bar is high... Like professional pole vault high. Lets put it this way... When I was away at college, whenever I came back to town.. The first thing I would do.. Before seeing my mom, dad, girlfriend, or dog... Was cruise down to Aztek and grab me a Cali. They're just that good. Now with the bar this place is a must visit. And to try something new... get a Cali with pastor... next level! read more

I've been on a new kick of trying new things. Back story: I'm what you call a picky eater. Bless my dad for putting up with me. I would refuse to drink my milk if he stirred my brother and sister's strawberry milk before he'd stir my chocolate milk. I don't know how I could tell, I was a little weirdo. So trying new things is kinda a big deal (insert applause here.) Today I tried the Aztek Burrito, and I LOVED IT. Ingredients include some of the freshest, best cooked asada I've ever had, cilantro, guac (yay!), and cactus. I think I heard angels sing. OMG sooooo good. Admittedly, I've never had cactus before. Now my biggest regret in life, that it took me 24 years to try it. I can't wait to come back, this is by far the best Mexican restaurant I've been to. EVER. read more

So happy Aztec is just a hop skip and jump from our home. The best fast Mexican food in town! I have never had a better Chile relleno (hope I spelled it right). When we walk in the cooks look at my husband and start to prepare his burrito before we even place the order. Pretty awesome they remember the meals of the regulars. The salsas and hot sauces are all great! I would recommend Aztec to anyone looking for good food, quick service and a comfortable atmosphere. read more

The food was good, which is the only reason it was two stars...otherwise it woudl be one, or 0 if possible. I went there and the place was so grossly understaffed it was ridiculous. I was in line for over 1/2 hour, and I pre-ordered. Unfortunate as the food was good and it is close to my house, but I cannot handle that level of service. When I did the phone in order they said it would take 20 minutes, I paid at 30 minutes, it was ready at 43 minutes (real time). Unacceptable and disappointing. If it's gonna take that long, tell me, but don't have me standing in line doing nothing. Just crazy. It was a busy evening so maybe if you catch it at a slow time, the food if good and good prices, but geez, stay away from this place anytime around the dinner hour. read more

This place was our second breakfast stop after going to the golden bowl down the street. We needed to get the taste out of our mouths. This place promised good food. The place looks clean. Again I had to check the restroom and I can say atleast the ladies restroom is very clean. My sister ordered tacos and I ordered the flautas plate with guac and lettuce. It was very good. The salsa bar has good selectiom and we wanted for nothing in terms of salsa and taco toppings. They have the drink fountain with infinite possibilities. Since I was still scared that the Golden Bowls food I did consume was going to wreak havok on my stomach, I opted for lemonade. Second drink was ginger ale, all zero calorie options. If I return hungry to Temecula, I will now know I have a safe haven in Aztec Taco. read more

We have been customers of Aztek for years but sadly this might be the last. This was one of the worst meals we have had. We ordered the nachos with chicken and extra cheese (cold, barely any cheese), two shredded beef tacos (cold) and a breakfast burrito (laity extra cheese (cold and mediocre at best). The food was bland, which is unusual for Aztek. It's as though they knew they were closing soon and didn't care enough to even try. This was as disappointing as it gets. read more

Believe it or not, I grew up falling in love with Mexican food when I lived in Hawaii. There was this shitty hole in the wall place in Pearl called "Diego's" and they had THE BEST carne asada EVER!!!! Even though I grew up in Baldwin Park which is predominantly Mexican-oriented and I had my honeymoon in Mexico, I still fell in love with carne asada in Hawaii. Now that I live in Temecula, I feared I would could never fill the void in my heart for carne asada until now. (sorry for the long intro) The California Burrito was almost too good to be true. Fries, guacamole, sour cream, and YUMMAY carne asada made once distant memories come back alive again!!!! My hubs got the Quesaburrito which is truly a million yummy flavors and textures into a poundful burrito. Truly was a taste explosion in every bite! My aunt got the Shrimp burrito. She wasn't complaining and when i asked her if it tasted good, she nodded her head yes...good enough for me. She's SUPER picky. Kiddies got a cheese quesadilla. Nothing fancy, however my kids were bummed that the cheese they used wasn't an "orange" one. =) There was definitely one thing that struck me positively, and that was their moist, soft corn tortillas. We got an order of their Aztec tacos and normally I hate and i mean HATE corn tortillas due to their tough, bland texture and taste, but theirs was definitely not the norm. All in all, for awesome taste, portions, and most items under 8 bucks, that's a keeper in my book. read more

My co-workers were wanting good quality Mexican food for dinner tonight. We ordered through the phone and the employee repeated our order back to us. When we picked it up, I was surprised to see ONE carne asada taco instead of the Carne asada nachos I ordered. This ONE taco is not a regular taco with guacamole and sour cream. It's a STREET TACO! A small one you eat on Taco Tuesday for $1 with a margarita. I was really in the mood for nachos. This restaurant is close to work and looks like a restaurant I would want to order more from-if they actually had my order right. If your employees can actually double check, maybe even triple check orders, that would be great. Thank you. read more

Aztek Tacos - I ordered the Carne Asada Nachos. I was given a Carne Asada taco. Do I look satisfied? - Mexican Near Me - Temecula, California

I've come here countless of times and love this joint! My only downfall is that they're pretty pricey for Mexican food . My regular: I usually get the Lengua Burrito with a side of their house sauce . It's pretty a simple burrito but it's delicious ! Onions, cilantro and lengua. My husband usually gets the steak surf and turf burrito and whenever I get a bite of it, it never seems to disappoint! Definitely a must try, just be prepared to pay a little more money for your average Mexican food read more

Clean restaurant, nice servers, free chips, and free (amazing) salsa. :) The salsa bar is very good and has quite a variety of salsas too. They also make their tortillas from scratch and fresh. :) The wait gets pretty long though... I came here on a Sunday at 5pm, and the wait was about an hour.. Everyone was working super hard to get the orders in though, which I appreciated. If you come here, you have to try their Aztek Tacos. I mean, it's their namesake. The Aztec Taco comes with all the normal fixings of a regular taco, plus cactus (which is also their logo). I never tried cactus before, and it tastes sorta like a green bell pepper with some tartness. It was really good! And I would give this taco 5 stars :D I also tried their carne asada fries, which were just average. Fries, sour cream, guac, cheese. And their al pastor taco, which was also just average. I would definitely return though for their Aztec Taco, and their free chips/salsa bar! read more

The food was great, fresh and SO freaking amazing! The carne asada was lean and flavorful, the salsa bar had some great choices! We're definitely coming back soon, too many things I want to try on the menu. read more

My favorite Mexican restaurant, by far. Quality of the food is fantastic. The beef is fresh, sliced from the rotisserie. Aside from the amazing food, they have a bar and they make the BEST Micheladas I have ever tasted in my life. I didn't even like Micheladas before I came to this place, and now I will only drink Micheladas from here and nowhere else. read more

I consider my self a connoisseur of california burritos, and when i rolled up to this place it did not have the hole in the wall aspect that creates amazing burritos. It was very clean open kitchen not cheesy decor but classy for a fast food place. open kitchen to watch them make yr food. The califorinia burrito was one of the best I ever had. perfect grilled meat with that char taste. amazing. also the tacos azteka are bomb as well , cant go wrong with cactus and meat. nice ethnic mix but none of those beef head jock dbags who frequent other mexican places. its like a classy burrito joint. read more

I think that this place must be under new management or something. This place used to deserve 5/5, amazing food and great service. Stopped by recently, and things have definitely gone sour. It took almost 40 minutes to get a tiny order for two people. The quality of the food, although still good, is no longer great. The meat had a ton of gristle and sinewy bits, the buritto had large portions that were so empty of contents that it was just like taking a bite of 8 layers of tortilla... Yum..... Felt bad for the single person working the register, taking phone orders, handing requests and delivering food, there was nothing they could do to keep up. Obviously the management wants to pinch pennies at the expense of quality, and in doing so they've lost this repeat customer. read more

The people here are rude. Bad service. The food is good but not worth it. I live one hour away and when friends drag me here I'm always disappointed. This last time they didn't give me my take out order correctly. Like I said rude. I went to the lady there to ask for my order and she said that it was ready but she just looked at me and I just walked back in line soon after they called me over to pick up the order and she didn't give me all the food. It's take out during pandemic so I drove all the way back home only to find out I didn't get my full order. read more

I've found a go-to taco shop in Temecula. Ravenous from a 10 hour hike, I stopped here ready to feed my hunger pains. I started with the complementary chips, which were just ok. The salsa bar had 5 different kinds of salsa, grilled onion, radishes, and limes. The star of the show was the Quesaburrito. I got the al pastor, which was tender, and well seasoned. It also came with a unique type of crispy cheese which I've never had in a burrito before. The rest of the burrito had guacamole, cilantro, grilled onions(on my request) and, of all things, pineapple. It all blended together nicely, and I finished every last bite. Very convenient off Hwy 79, with plenty of parking. They also have a couple of Tv's for sports viewing. I'll definitely be back. read more

This is a 3.5. I liked this place and with a few tweaks it could easily become a 4. The goods: Food (I had the Cali Burrito and the quality of steak the use is above average for this type of mexican food.) Service (They brought my meal to my table.) The Not so good: Over half the chips I got were stale. There were flies around the salsa. The Sala's are bland Overall this place was good but not as great as I hoped it would be. I'd go back and I have no reservations about recommending it. Try it out. read more

Once again ill say this .... Aztek is the best in Temecula ... the people saying they got sick or that taco bell is better are out of their minds ... or their caucasian stomach can't handle good stuff .... I'm mexican and very picky if ii eat out and this is as good as it gets ...... read more

After reading all the fantastic reviews, I just *had* to eat here. Finally, a *good* Mexican restaurant in Tmec! Buuuuuut, I was very disappointed. :-( Pros: - salsa bar was AWESOME!!!! - service was nice enough - food came quickly - did I mention?, the salsa is great (spicy, but not too spicy; flavorful; several options) Cons: - bland - lots of non-chewable fat in the al pastor meat - the food was not yummy, it was just "food" I had: - fish tacos (I thought they were bland, until I tried the al pastor tacos) - al pastor tacos (it *looked* good, but my tastebuds tasted nothingness) - "mild" red salsa (it's got a kick to it!) - "medium" green salsa (this was so good, perhaps not for dipping chips into, but very good otherwise) So I guess if you pour the yummy salsa over the bland food, it tastes fine. But I wouldn't go back. It wasn't "bad", but it wasn't something I'd like to eat again. Tacos were $2.50-3.50 each. read more

We had friends visiting from out of town (Montreal) and decided to meet in Temecula. Their one request, other than massive amounts of wine drinking, was Mexican food for lunch. After reading about this place, I figured we'd give it a shot. It was the perfect place for a quick bite considering we needed carbs to soak up the alcohol that was about to be consumed. My friends and the bf were very happy with their tacos, tamales, and burritos, respectively. I had the ceviche, which was fine (mostly shrimp), and the tortillas were authentic and hearty. (yes, I requested soft tortillas instead of the hard ones). I wished I'd ordered a few tacos instead, though. That seems to be their forte, including the homemade sauces! In a nutshell (or a tortilla, whichever you prefer) this was a decent Mexican place with a healthy representation of latino customers. Always a positive sign. read more

Everything i've ordered has been really good but man...it is EXPENSIVE! I have a real problem with paying $4.50 for a bean and cheese burrito. I have 3 kids and I cannot get out of there for less than $40 if my life depended on it. I would go much more often if the prices on some of their items were more reasonable. I would definitely endorse the fajitas, and be sure to order them with extra vegetables and tomatoes for 50 cents more. The staff is friendly and aims to please, especially the cooks. I was put off one day because a female worker was cleaning the glass sneeze guard on the salsa kiosk rather carelessly, and I was literally watching the blue liquid spray mist falling into the salsa bins. I should have said something at the time but I didn't, and since then I've always filled up my salsa cups with trepidation. That's really been my only complaint. I've never been disappointed with the food, and I'll continue to visit them. read more

Good food and good flavor, they just need to work on cleaning as you go. A little longer wait is worth it to have a clean establishment! Keep it up guys! read more

This is my absolute favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. The burritos are the best, and if you like your burrito a little different order the California Burrito. It's packed with tons of great ingredients and french fries. I prefer the Chicken Burrito as the mushrooms add just the right texture and taste to make it wonderful. Service is good as you can watch the cooks make your food and see everything as it's put together. Great place as it's casual and quick. Fresh food and overall a great restaurant. read more

Ordered Tacos El Pastor Plate , meat was dry but portion was good. Rice was good and fluffy, beans dry and not good. Over all have had way better juicier El Pastor and for less expensive 2 taco place and one extra taco almost 15 dollars!!!! Won't be back, nice staff though:) read more

I Love this place! Anyone who knows good Mexican food understands that the best food comes from the smallest of restaurants. This place is an absolute gem. I can't seem to stop ordering anything with carne aside in it. Seasoned perfectly, cooked perfectly every time. Fresh, cooked to order, awesome! I wish I was there now! read more

Went here based off reviews. Thanks to the person who recommended the Steak and Shrimp burrito. The shrimp was so tender and so was the meat. It got busy as soon as we got in line. So it was crowded. The placement of the soda machine and salsa station was a bit off. I saw so many people bump into each other. May be avoidable with better placement. I was bummed because I assumed they would have some Horchata. But didn't at the time of my visit. Overall the food was pretty dang good. I'd take a picture but I ate it all. read more

The food was excellent and authentic. All of it. Best Mexican food in the area. I had a trio of tacos: fish, lengua and carne asada. All excellent. The corn tortilla was warm and thin. (Not gummy as other places would serve.) Garnishes of cilantro, onions and guacamole are as good as you'll get. But the true stars were the meats. The carne asada is as good as I've had. Flavorful, moist and tender. The fish taco -- tilapia -- was as good as it gets. And the lengua had wonderful flavor. It's corporate -- apparently nothing in the area is a taco stand -- but the folks were very nice and the place was packed after 2 p.m. In short, if you're in the area, this probably is your best bet for good food. read more

I usually give a high rating but this day in particular, I walked in for carry out order. I ordered a California burrito. While sitting in front of the cook and where they make the tortillas. I seen the cook with this long beard hovering over the carne asada as he cooks it and then prepared it. No beard net cover! All I was able to think is if any of those little black hairs in my burrito.. something to consider for the owners of the Aztecs Tacos. read more

I absolutely love everything about this place!!!! Great atmosphere --- bright, clean, ample parking, friendly staff, and excellent food selection. Food is prepared in front of you so there is no question about freshness. All are reasonably priced. My wife and I always order here each time we get the craving for a Mexican food take-out (at least 2x per month). My personal favorite is the Aztek burrito. My wife's favorite is the Pollo Asado burrito. But all on the menu look delicious. I also enjoy their salsa bar. I recommend calling in your takeout order because they get very busy at times. If you are looking for awesome Mexican food with a family-friendly setting in the Temecula area, this is your place!! read more

We have been here twice in 2 days! Great little Mexican joint with a salsa bar and great tasting food. Good portions and fast service in addition to nice cold brews make for great eats after a day of wine/beer tastings. Highly recommend visiting this place when in the Temecula area. Especially recommend the shrimp and steak tacos, carne asada and the crunchy cheese tacos. read more

Such good food, but we won't be coming back. Here's why: They seem to be understaffed. From waiting in line to finally getting our to go order, took 40 minutes. Not worth it. There were two people working the front - taking phone and in-person orders, packaging the takeout, and delivering to those eating in. Either they were moving kind of slow, or they need another person to jump in and help. They seem to prioritize people who eat in, which I understand. But my friend, who ate in, who ordered right after me got his burrito I'm about 5 minutes. Seriously! I didn't even order anything too involved - 2 tacos (which were delicious, their corn tortillas are so good) and my husbands asada burrito (which he said was gristly). I wish they allowed dogs on their patio. I know it's the businesses prerogative, but the only time we get out in this area is coming from a camping trip with our dogs, hence the ordering to go. So, such good food, but not worth it to me personally. What a shame! read more

I come here to EAT! This place is great.... I never even think about rubios now that Aztec is here in the fine town of t mec. My wife, who is prone to diarrhea due to a case of undiagnosed IBS has yet to feel sick from Aztec. I however suffer from IBS and am unaffected by Aztec as well which is amazing. The workers are all friendly and give you great service. The owner is very nice as well! Do yourself a favor and get something with their chicken. Its amazing. Also the special sauce called house sauce. I would lick that sauce off of just about any type of food. Its amazing and I wish they sold it in a tube or bottle. I'd buy a BOX of tubes Costco style and use it on everything... and I do mean everything. read more

This is probably the best Mexican food in temecula, probably even ranks among some of the best Mexican places in San Diego. If you're looking for somewhere to go, definitely come to Aztec Tacos. Only complaint was it's a little oily but it was so worth it. Quesaburrito is amazing. read more

I updated yelp mobile just so I could give this place a 3 star review. This highly Americanized Mexican food is definitely not worth anything more than 3 stars in Southern California. On the flip side, this would be a pretty good if they up and moved to Northern Canada. The al pastor was the most bland al pastor I've ever had. Dry with a slightly disturbing sweet sauce. Chunks too large to eat in one bite. Just plain wrong. For $4 I expected more than food processor guacamole served in a styrofoam cup. Tamales were good, they recovered a star on the tamale. Will not eat again. read more

Hands down the best taco joint I've found in town!!! From start to finish they do things right: friendly customer service, free chips with an outstanding fresh made salsa bar, cool 1000 flavor Coke machine and amazing food. They have several unique items like the quesataco and that taco sandwich thing. All the meats are delicious, I especially enjoy the el pastore!!! They also have outside seating which is a bonus once it cools off around here, I'd give it 3 thumbs up if I could. read more

There is no great Mexican Food in Temecula and this place is no exception. The beans are lack luster, the quality of the meat is getting worse with each visit. Seems like each visit prices are higher but quality is lower. Lose your fancy soda machine and bring back good food!! The one star though is for the on again off again B rating. Won't be going back till it stays an A for a good year at least. Food poisoning is no joke. read more

This place is basically Tacos Tijuana. Right down to the signage, the layout and the food.
