The first time I ordered from here it was awesome. I thought I had found the best Mexican place in town. It's been down hill since. Today my order was not only cold but wrong. I ordered beef enchiladas and received chicken enchiladas. I know mistakes happen but last time I ordered I asked for no rice in my burrito and there was rice. While I was in today picking up my order the guys behind were eating fried rice off of the food pickup. Not very sanitary. First time here, the food was decent, it was kinda oily and on the small side. We ordered the surf and turf burrito and Cali supreme burrito. The surf and turf was pretty small compared to the Cali supreme. There wasn't much shrimp unfortunately, it was mostly filled with lettuce. Staying in the area and looked up carne asada fries. I went to school in SD and practically lived off of carne asada fries. Anyway, I went to big trusty Yelp and this popped up. Parking was difficult for a Friday evening as it's shared with a bunch of other establishments. Extensive menu, but I knew what I wanted. Carne asada fries with everything on it and 3 rolled tacos, to-go. I got my sauce cups and went to town to try them all. This is exactly what I was craving. Having moved to Texas and now in the Bay Area, the flavors of carne asada fries and rolled tacos just hits different when in SD (or SD adjacent in this case haha). I love this taco shop. I've been coming here for years. The food is always good and consistent and so is the customer service. They are always friendly. I like to call my order in unless I'm eating there because it gets busy. It's right across from the promenade mall so it has a good location with plenty of parking. It's always clean and they also have a michocana located in there as well in case you want dessert afterwards. read more

I only dropped by here at 9:30 am because the rest of the shopping center doesn't open until 10 am, and Jilberto opens 8 am. I needed to kill time for Goodwill to open. And today is Taco Tues and all $3.50 street tacos are $1.99. I picked cabeza meat, but the s was very bland and flavorless. Boring! At the salsa bar, the ladle handles are way too long in that you cannot lift filled ladle out onto your taco because the spit glass is so low the ladle handle hits it first. When you lower the handle to get it outta the spit awning, the sauce dumps and they have to clean it up. When I tried to show the employee Frankie how the ladle hits the glass, then when I lower the handle and the sauce dumps, he was not interested. I told him he should tell his boss. He said the boss can't do anything about it. I said yes he can he can get shorter ladle handles. Frankie was not paying attention to what I was saying. His eyes were on the soccer game on the screen and he didn't answer. So another 1 star ding. Another reason for 1 star is because for $1.99 taco Tuesday price, you only get a 3" street taco, but at Rubio's, you get a full size fish taco for $2.25...used to be $1.99 beginning of the year. I told the employee that the cabaza was really flavorless and boring. Did he think any of the other meats have more flavor? He said maybe the El Pastor. So I ordered another Mini Al Pastor taco. San Diego Mexican food sets the bar up high for other cities like Temecula. It took us about 3-4 restaurants in the past 3 years to get something decent. This place works. The chilaquiles burrito is the best burrito that I have had (so far) in the whole of the Temecula Valley. This thing is HUGE, and comes loaded with spicy-saucy-cheesy goodness. Don't worry, you still get a gooey fried egg inside, plus some grilled veggies and carnitas. This sucker is spicy, but honestly, you're in California and should be able to handle some heat, so thats honestly not my problem. While passing by the City of Temecula, we found a gem! The reviews don't do justice. Sure, it really is hard to please everyone. I can tell you though, this place didn't disappoint us. From entering and being helped by the friendliest and most helpful lady take our order, to the one of the best steak burritos we've ever tried, this place is definitely a keeper for next time. There really is truth to the saying never judge a book by its cover. They may need some updating with the lighting and furnitures but needless to say the quality food and service was more important. Terrible customer service and somehow even WORSE food. I ordered an asada burrito for takeout, and after paying, the lady at the register very rudely said, "No tip?" I replied with a solid "No." since she looked incredibly grumpy from the moment I walked in. Now, just to be clear, I am not against tipping on takeout orders, but the lady at the register (who didn't even greet me) looked like she would rather be anywhere else but working here--and she definitely didn't deserve it. But look, I can overlook terrible customer service if the food is GOOD. today I got the Carne asada chips. I came to this taco shop because it had a lot of good reviews, but I'm very very disappointed. Let's start with the chips in the meat super greasy. Oh, Jilberto's. We visited this small Mexican restaurant for a late night snack after leaving a nearby brewery. Conveniently located across the street from Wild Barrel Brewing, Jilberto's Taco Shop is serving up all your favorite eats - tacos, burritos, churros, quesadillas. This spot is great for a quick fix, but the food was relatively simple. As a group we ordered the Taquito platter to share, which was served with twelve taquitos, doused in creamy guacamole. For an entree I ordered the carnitas tortas! Thick bread with carnitas, lettuce, guac, and pico. Very yummy, and definitely shareable! Unfortunately, another downfall to this restaurant was its service and cleanliness. I was bummed to see that none of the tables were wiped down, and the bathroom was unstocked.
