It has been nearly 4 years since I first reviewed Cotija's Taco Shop in Temecula. Although the menu has changed somewhat, the prices have increased, salsa is now packaged, the food and service is still 5 stars. We are also ordering different favorites from Cotija's. I love the Cotija's Burrito and the fish taco. The Cotija's Burrito is ample with plenty of carne asada, ham, bacon, cheese, grilled onions, pico and guacamole. The fish taco is very tasty and is only 1.99. The cheap Pete in me applauds the low price. The wife gravitates towards the Shrimp Burrito. She orders it without rice and seems to really enjoy it. She cuts it in half and it makes two meals for her. Cotija's has changed over the past 4 years but still rates in our top 5 for the areas best Mexican food. Note: this location is takeout only. There is no place to eat outside or inside unless of course you eat in your car/truck/SUV or motorcycle. read more

I accidentally discovered there's a Cotijas hiding out in Temecula South like a low-key nacho dealer, and honestly... what a find. Just don't show up expecting vibes...this place said "drive-thru only" and meant it!!! No chairs, no tables, not even a sad little bench. You and your food are in a committed car relationship now!! So darn good!!!!! The best potato tacos ever. They have potato tacos and potato taquitos. Both are fantastic! I used to come to Cotijas Taco Shop all the time- at least once a week. It was so good! The tacos are still amazing! I'm excited that they added potato taquitos tot he menu too. Yummy! I got an order of the taquitos and a couple of the tacos. I ordered the potato tacos plain (without pico, crema). It is just the potatoes and crunchy taco shells- delish!! Pair that with the salsa and you have a great combination! My mom loved the taquitos more than the tacos. Service was good. They were quick at slinging the tacos. I am a fan of the drive-thru. I prefer hitting that and taking my tacos to-go. The salsa has a little kick to it, but it's not too spicy. I can handle it lol Just makes my noise run a lot. Huge fan of this taco shop! Can't wait to come back! :) read more

Ok well lately it hasn't been it. A couple of times the tacos were barely half filled. This most recent time the carne asada was dry, over cooked, and salty. The lemons were more rind than actual juice. Service was fine but when they ask if we want any salsa? We say green but are always given like 2 greens and a bunch of red salsa. read more

This is a drive-thru location. They do have a walk up window but there won't be anyone around to help people at the window. The food is signature Cotijas-chain style. Large burrito, with a large amount of sour cream wrapped in a gigantic tortilla. It's a major gut-buster. A bit too rich for me, but they definitely don't skimp here. read more

Today the breakfast burrito search brings me here, BUT they don't have a Bacon breakfast burrito on the menu, just ham, and 2 dollars more carne asada and bacon... So I made the difficult choice to get the asada and bacon... twist my arm I'll take the steak. Drive through place, convenient but I do like sitting inside to eat than in my car on occasion. Its location is fairly simple, near a stop light and in a parking lot with relatively low traffic. Service was punctual and friendly. No salsa bar as it's a drive through but they do have red and green salsa, just red and green, prepackaged, but still fresh tasting and not too bad. The burrito was good size, had a bit of heft, definitely had me satisfied and not wanting more. Good amount of carne asada and bacon in every bite. Cheese and egg were generously distributed, no potatoes, surprisingly, thought for sure there'd be some filler carbs, but nope! Overall the place is convenient so 4 stars. Service was good, no mistakes and friendly so 4.5 stars. The burrito was great. A few dollars more than my standard breakfast burrito mark of under $15, but bacon AND steak, very justifiable price. 4.9 stars; if you're looking for a big, meaty breakfast burrito, this hits the spot. 1 Star I've been coming here for a while, but this was my last time. The woman working the window today was beyond rude. I asked for two separate orders: one bean and cheese burrito and one California burrito with added guacamole. I clearly said add guacamole, and she kept repeating "only guacamole," like I didn't know what I was asking. Then she rings it up and says it's $16 for just the California burrito. I was shocked $16 for one burrito is insane. We were the only ones there, no rush, no line. She had no reason to be short with us, yet she still took forever to even come to the window. When we told her we wanted to cancel the second order after hearing the price, she said it was already being made and gave us attitude about it. I explained I wasn't expecting that price and didn't agree to it. Her response? "It's on the menu"--like that makes up for the lack of communication or courtesy. She was dismissive, rude, and clearly didn't care about customer service. On top of that, they always get my taco orders wrong. This was just the final straw. It's fast food if a customer changes their mind before getting the food, especially when there's no one else there, it shouldn't be a big deal. Instead, she made it into a confrontation. If you're looking for decent food and decent service, I'd go somewhere else. This kind of unprofessionalism isn't worth your time or money. read more

We decided to give this eatery a second chance. There is no seating available only a drive up window. Service was quick and friendly and the food was securely packed. We ordered: two cheese enchiladas combo and a Chile Relleno with a cheese enchilada combo. Wow! The food was so fresh and flavorful plus portions were generous! The tortillas tasted like they were homemade, the rice and beans were delicious as well as the Chile Relleno. It was full of gooey, savory cheese and it was perfect! We were very happy with our meals and will continue to support this small business especially if they keep serving outstanding food. What a great improvement from the first time. I wanted to hate this place, my wife tried it once and said it was good. I was hesitant at first, given the low reviews. It looked expensive, but my memory is still pre Covid pricing. I suppose it is only a tad higher than avg. I ordered one time and the food was really good. The amount of meat in the burrito was a lot. Just ordered again a few weeks later, I really pleased with the food. My wife... she grew up in Ensenada, she was right. It really is a great place to grab some Mexican food. I am the who posted that Cotijas was still open while Yelp said they were closed for good 7 months ago I really like Cotijas here and in SD but to have a drive thru sign that offers breakfast burrito and a small drink for 7.99 and not honor it, is bad for business. First let me say, food was good, plenty of meat on the tacos, great flavor, etc. great customer service, and fast drive thru service. But...and for me it's a big one...the Birria Tacos don't come with consommé to dip the taco into. Why is this an issue for me? Price point...plain Birria (no cheese) is $2.75, with cheese $4.49. I paid $4.49 for a Birria taco that doesn't come with consommé. If you don't know what consommé is, you are missing out. As I was ordering, I did ask the person taking my order if it came with the juice and was told yes. Perhaps the girl didn't understand my question, either way, this taco lover, was bummed. We also ordered pastor and carne tacos, they were delicious. I'm just not sure I'd order the Birria tacos again, for that price without the consommé. Beans and rice were very tasty. read more

Went to get a car wash and decided to give this place a try. So glad we did because it was pretty good folks! First, before you read on, I have to let you know that I'm not a picky eater so with that being said... I like my food simple, flavorful, clean and filling and this place was it! We waited in the drive thru lane for about 25 minutes at around 6pm so if you're in a hurry you might want to go down and order. We tried the Carne Asada burrito, beef tamales and steak bowl. My favorite was the beef tamales. It has a unique flavor. Beef was tender and the tamale was soft towards the center. WARNING it's spicy! Taki Taki! My hubby finished the carne asada burrito all by himself so I think it was so good that he didn't want to share! Steak bowl was huge and delicious. I saved half of it for later. It was very difficult to find the will to stop eating because it was so good. I'm so grateful and happy they decided to open here in Temecula. I think Temecula is rocking with all these new delicious food places. I also recommend Thailand to go and Eggplants Thai cuisine if you're adventurous. Terribly overcooked food. Have had tacos here and they were good. So tonight I figured I would get dinner for my family of four. It was $56, with no drinks, and terribly burned beef and overcooked everything. And they ask you for a big tip at the window. I've been wanting to try this place as I'm hoping to try all of the local Mexican restaurants to continue to build my list of favorites. I got a chicken bowl and a container of salsa. The chicken bowl was stuffed full of ingredients and I would say for $12, I definitely got my money's worth. The chicken was not white meat but it was flavorful. I definitely enjoyed the bowl. I also purchased a container of salsa. The menu board says $3.99 for 16oz but I was given 8oz. I got the red salsa. I didn't like it! Salsa is one of my favorite things and it's rare I don't like one. This one had too much vinegar and was somehow kind of sweet. Maybe that was just the vinegar. Ordered a Chili Verde Burrito, it was stuffed with beans and about three teaspoons of Chili Verde Pork, we ordered a large order of beans, $12.00 tasted like they were made days ago and a large bag of chips which were so stale. This place is a hit or miss for me. About a year ago it was a total miss but yesterday 5/31/24 I gave it another shot and it was a total hit but blown away by how pricey this place has gotten. I would be lying to you if the burritos were tiny, they were massive and the cooks were not shy with the meat. Both burritos were very tasty. A friend picked up the food so I can't speak on the service or ambiance. There's a Cotijas in Colton and they have the best fish tacos. I'm not sure if this place is affiliated, I know the one in Menifee isn't. Looking at the menu this place is def pricy. After reading other reviews I figured the tamale would be my best choice. I've got high standards for Mexican food. The beef tamale- I really enjoyed the red sauce, which it's covered in. With the sauce and cheese it's great together but I don't know how the tamale tastes on its own. Next time I'll order the tamale and add diced onions. The carne asada was whatever. The tortilla didn't have the proper grease factor. I'm not sure if I'd order any of the tacos again. I just moved back to Temecula. I've always passed this place in my way to the wineries and I've wanted to try it. It won't be my go to Mexican spot but the tamale is a decently priced meal on its own. read more

The food is pretty good, but service is always shotty. They have a deal for a $7.99 breakfast burrito with a small drink. The deal is on a banner located on the fence. But when you pull up to order your food, in the past 4 times, I have either had 1. An employee say no substitutes, 2. An employee say substitutes are extra, 3. An employee not know what I was talking about or 4. We didn't get our small drink that's apart of the combo. You also may get the burrito for the advertised $7.99 + tax or you may get charged the full $12.99 price. This is hard to also try and get fixed because about 25% of the times I have been here, the gentleman taking the order speaks super broken English. I think today will be the last time here. It seems the service is inconsistent, ordering is stressful and I never know if I have to argue my case or get the advertisement as it's displayed with no issues. We also had half an egg shell one time, but I felt that was a once in a lifestyle mess up and wasn't too worried. I hope this improves. read more
