READ THIS BEFORE USING AZ STUDENT MOVERS: Ed is the business owner as well as one of the two movers for our job yesterday. He stormed out of our house while calling me a "f**king piece of sh*t", lowlife, scumbag, douchebag -- you name it... You're probably thinking we must have done something terrible to get him to blow up like this, right? Here's what provoked him: One of the dressers that was unloaded to our new place had a wooden support beam hanging down, broken at the peg. To our knowledge, it wasn't broken prior to the move so we inquired about it. Ed said it was already loose when they picked it up and that it had broken when they placed it on the dolly. All fine if that actually was the case. I simply asked Ed if he had some type of process to note existing damage of furniture that they're moving. Not talking about little dings or scratches, but like, "hey, this whole wooden piece is hanging off - let's take note of that and at least mention it to the customer so they know we didn't break it during the move." Seems pretty common sense for a moving company to have something like that as part of their SOPs? Not with AZ Student Movers! This is when Ed stormed out and began swearing at me and calling me every name in the book as I just looked at him in disbelief... like what are you doing, dude? I'm not even arguing with you, I'm not being combative back to you - I asked a simple question. I even looked over to his partner/employee as he looked back at me in disbelief/embarrassment, mouthing "sorry! I don't know!" to me. It's not an expensive dresser and we weren't looking to "scam you" out of any reimbursements or insurance claims. It's a cheap dresser. We didn't want a refund for your services. It was nice to see other negative reviews here corroborating Ed's exact behavior here which shows that it wasn't just an abnormal "bad day" for him. Make sure you take good note of this and other negative reviews before considering working with Ed's company. Ed clearly doesn't know how to deal with customers and certainly needs to implement some more standards when it comes to running a moving company. I've dealt with many moving companies over the years and have self-moved my fair share of homes and offices (cross-country, cross-state, and across the street). I understand customers who try to "scam you" exist and dealing with people all day everyday can make you snap sometimes. I gave Ed 24 hours before posting this to see if he might reach out to clear things up after he cooled off. Nothing came through. Oh well. UPDATE: Ed, I most certainly was your customer. You moved "our" belongings in to "our" place in Scottsdale. Melanie handling the scheduling doesn't change my involvement. Once again - and you know this, because I mentioned it in my original review above as well as when you called me the day after - we never asked you for a refund, discount, or to even fix the dresser. We will gladly pay for the move, even still. You stormed out of our house telling us to keep our money after you went on your tirade insulting me. I told you on the phone that Melanie said she was fine paying for the move and didn't want any refunds for your service, even after everything that went down. I was never "red in the face" and definitely did not ask you to fix the dresser, lol. Come on, man. I was giving you the benefit of the doubt in this asking if you had some type of note that the dresser was broken when you picked it up so Melanie wouldn't think you guys broke it. Ed the owner was very quick to respond and stay in touch with me even when I was scattered and left him hanging on a response for 2 hours. He was kind and ready to help. His movers kept in contact with me the day of the move with their ETA and # of movers that would be on site. They were quick, efficient and gentle with my things. I would hire them again. If I could leave a negative star review I would. We are absolutely disgusted with this company. Myself and my husband both spoke with Ed about scheduling our move, I even have a confirmation email (I will post a picture) saying the date and time they'd be arriving. The morning of our move, no movers showed. We began calling the company 30 mins after their scheduled arrival time and we got no answer. I called 3 times and left messages and my husband also called and left a message as well as emailing the company. Ed finally called me an hour after their scheduled arrival time saying they had no record of our move and I was mistaken and must have the dates mixed up. I said we would not be continuing with their services and he told me good luck finding another company to move us the day of unless they are illegal aliens off Craigslist. Nice guys, really listened to is when we told them which items to be careful with. Alex is new, and a really nice human being, good hire! They kept moving at a good clip, moving items from storage into our house. At the house they were great about being directed as to where to put things in various rooms, which included going down some steep stairs. They did not even attempt to wrap these things or take any care with my possessions, they also miked the clock I have never seen any two guys move any slower in my life. AZ student movers moved both my boyfriend and myself on separate occasions. Both of us were quoted 8:30 on the phone but scheduled at 8am which isn't that big of a deal but kind of strange it happened to each of us. The movers on the other hand were great. Very quick with disassembly and reassembly of the bedroom furniture which was my biggest stressor as I have an obnoxious bed frame. The owner sent out 3 movers instead of the expected two which was a nice surprise and they finished moving my entire one bedroom in 2 hours and 15 minutes. No damages, no complaints! We moved in September of 2016 and this company was extremely pleasant to work with, super efficient and very careful with his belongings. What impressed me the most was the speed in which they moved everything without damaging anything at all. Not only did they have everything moved quickly and efficiently, but they also took extra special care over the lawn and walls of the new house. Overall, I'd say find someone else! First, let me say that the guys that moved me were great. Helpful, efficient, good workers. My issue is with Ed, the owner of the company. He overcharged my credit card and after two attempts at getting in contact with him regarding this, he still has not responded. My move was scheduled for noon and had been set for a couple weeks. I found out the night before my move that my movers would be an hour late. I was bummed because the main reason I had chosen PDX Student Movers was because they had earlier availability than the less costly other company I was going to book with. I explained this to Ed and he said that he was sending an extra guy to help with the move before mine and would just have him stay on my move as well. This was a nice gesture. The very least he could do. While I understand that issues come up with moves; and I was aware that they'd be an hour later than scheduled, my movers show up nearly 3 hours late! This is not acceptable. And then to overcharge me without reason or response is completely unprofessional. His emails are unprofessional an unclear as well. I feel bad for the guys he hires because they have to deal unnecessarily with the brunt this, being the face of the company. Overall, I'd say find someone else! read more

I didn't have a clue of who to call for our recent move. I requested quotes from 3 different movers and found the two other movers wouldn't commit to a fixed price and charged for blankets, wrapping, etc. I found Ed from Portland Student Movers to be very responsive, a direct communicator and in both cases (we moved our belongings to a storage until our new home was ready--and then from storage to our new home) our actual charges came out less than Ed estimated. Honestly, I would have paid what he quoted but this is an example of his honesty. The movers themselves were on-time, friendly and handled our things with care. An added bonus was that they were supervised the entire time by an on-site manager. Late in the day--keep in mind we had a lot of stuff. The movers were still laughing and going up and down our stairs with a smile on their face and were taking the stairs 3 steps at a time. We enjoyed asking the college age movers about what school they were attending and hearing about their career goals. I did read posts on Yelp and I thought some of the people who complained about them to be crazy. Of course they want to get paid when the work is complete--I am not sure why other posters expected anything else. When your haircut is done you don't tell the salon...hey, I'll pay you later, if you take a cab you don't tell them you will pay later, if you eat a meal at a restaurant (you get the idea). This is a service industry so, if you hire them expect to pay at the end of the move. In my book, Portland Student Movers get an A++++++ Would recommend them to anyone. read more

AZ Student Movers recently helped us relocate (locally, in the Valley) and did a FANTASTIC job. When I initially started to shop around for quotes, I encountered several VERY different approaches to this service. Many were super pushy, or preoccupied with all the things that are NOT included, that will / can cost extra etc. etc. And their hourly rates were higher too! So, not only did Axis have the best "Per Hour" rate, but the initial email exchange with Ed was professional, courteous and not pushy at all. I explained that we have a 2 story, 4 BR home, and we're moving to a 1 story across town. He estimated 5-6 hours with a crew of 3. Sure enough, when moving day came, 3 young guys showed up (even texted me because the are were running 15 minutes late) and then got to work ASAP. These guys moved at an impressive clip, but were careful with all our belongings. When they had questions / concerns, they asked, and when they could offer extra help, they did. It ended up being 2x trips, but it barely went over the 6 hour estimate. I'd recommend this company for any move you have coming up. No gimmicks, not apps to download, on-line quote surveys to fill out or pushy sales guys. Just a good service or a fair cost. read more

I had to find movers on short notice and was extremely flustered as no one would return my calls or emails and if they did they wouldn't quote me a set price. However when I contacted Portland Student Movers, Ed responded within minutes and answered my questions with concise information and a set quote. The price he quoted was fantastic (better than ANY other moving company) and he worked with my time schedule. On moving day, Larry and Brad showed up early and instantly started. They listened to all of my OCD request and were on the road in less than an hour. It was over 90 degrees and they moved all of our stuff into our new second story apt without any complaints and kept asking where I wanted my stuff instead of just assuming. We were frustrated by our recent experience with Portland's Student Movers. Our first indication of a problem was when Ed, the move coordinator, failed to make a promised confirmation call the night before the move. When we called Ed, he claimed he was "just getting ready to call us". The next day the movers were scheduled to arrive at 11:00 a.m. At 10:45, Ed called saying they were running late and would arrive between 11:30 and 12. At 12:15, with no movers in sight. we called Ed back. This time he said that the movers would arrive around 2 and that he was short-handed because one of his movers had died. While we understand that this was an unfortunate circumstance, we were frustrated at having to wait over three hours for the movers to arrive. Also, our move was scheduled for Monday and Ed said he had lost his mover on Saturday. It seemed like he could have let us know earlier that he would be shorthanded and late and we could have adjusted our plans. With a deadline of our own to meet, a truck rented, and the movers finally arriving over three hours late, we were able to get started with our move. I must stress that we were pleased with the movers themselves. They worked hard, did a professional job and amde sure everything was completed before they left. My issues with Portland Student Movers have been resolved, and thankfully! A kind man named Jason has purchased and taken over the day to day operations of the business. He reached out to me help rectify the treatment id received from the prior owner, even though he himself was not a party to that. I have used Portland Student Movers twice and was dreading the idea of having to find a new company to use! The guys who actually do the labor a great, nice and friendly guys who are deserving of work. With my second move although the issue I experienced was very minor the treatment from the owner was less than stellar. This new owner makes me feel great about supporting this local business in the future and truly made me feel valuable as a client (a tough thing to do in this industry as you dont use them very often). The movers are on time, efficient and the appropriate amount of friendly. The value is definitely there for the headache moving yourself with the help of some friends would cause you. Terrible! I set up a move, had everything boxed up, reserved elevators and they didn't show up! An outrage. I had a move out deadline and so after waiting hours I called and the guy blamed me for giving a wrong date..NO it was all spelled out in our written communications he screwed up. I was desperate so agreed they could come the next day. The 3 movers were nice but totally unprepared with one dolly and not enough furniture pads to move my 2 bedroom condo. It took well over 10 hours and cost triple what I had been quoted. They had to make two trips because lack supplies they said would provide. Set up electric bed wrong so when want to raise head my feet raise...far to heavy for me to correct. They left heavy bike rack... The guy called me angry I had so much stuff which I disagree with I think I've got expected amount stuff. On and on read more

I had a verbal confirmation over the phone re: a scheduled move and when I called weeks later to confirm the reservation I was told I must have called the wrong moving company because they never sent me a confirmation email. While I do take partial blame for not questioning further why I didn't receive a confirmation email from this company, I am VERY certain I spoke to them on the phone, provided all the necessary information and details for my move, and was told over the phone he had me on the books. When calling today to confirm, this company did not take an apologetic approach or a perspective of "the customer's always right". I was told I was in the wrong, that I must have been confused, and there could not possibly have been any error on their part for this transaction.
