I am so happy this place opened up the street from me, these were the perfect Colombian empanadas…read more So beautifully balanced with their flavors. And I loved the yuca too. The only issue I really had was that the guacamole was overwhelmed by lime juice but I'll be back to try it again to see if that was a one time fluke. definitely want to try the guava and cheese and spinach and cheese too next time. I think my favorite was the beef one but I really liked all of them! The yucas fritas were sooooooo good.

Taste the Rainbow! A new empanada place has opened on Halstead Ave and we had to try it for lunch…read more The empanadas are Colombian style with the crust made from corn meal and baked. There is a big variety of fillings to choose from ($3.75 ea) or you can mix and match them for 1/2 dozen ($22) and whole dozen ($40) boxes. We gathered orders in the office and put in an order for 3 dozen (There is a 3.5% credit card charge). Parking on Halstead was easy and so was pick up. The very nice lady proudly presented our empanadas to us, packed our boxes in bags and loaded us up with dipping sauces. Each flavor empanada is color coded, so we were able to sort them out for each person's order. The coloring is natural, so you don't have to be worried about artificial dyes. Empanadas: Beef (Carne) - Red (Rojo) Chicken (Pollo) - Yellow (Amarillia) Mango Pork (Cerdo con Mango) - Black (Negro) Guava & Cheese - Pink (Rosada) Spinach & Cheese - Green (Verde) Chorizo & Cheese - Purple (Morado) Blueberry Goat Cheese - Black / White (Negro y Blanca) Vegan Black Bean & Sweet Bell Pepper (Frijol Negro) - Orange (Naranja) Vegan Chorizo & Sweet Potato (Chorizo Vegano) - Purple / White (Morado/Negra) Vegan Beef & Plantain (Mofango Vegano) - Red / White We were given 3 dipping sauces: Signature Hot Sauce (Orange) Cilantro Lime Crema (Light Green) Grilled Tomatillo (Green) My favorite is the spicy orange sauce, but other people said it was too hot, but perfect for me. It paired very well with Beef & Chicken, but was excellent with the Chorizo & Cheese. There are other menu items like Arepas con Queso, Tostones, Maduros & Yuca Fries to try, but 3 empanadas for lunch was plenty and I'm taking 3 home for my familia to try.

The owner and chef, Ray, is very friendly and kindly explained his menu and food truck concept to me. It seems that he also does catering during the day and at night, he'll open up his food truck at 7PM. It might looked like it's closed because the truck is parked at a slant so keep your eyes peeled and noses sharp because the food smells absolutely delicious! The menu changes everyday as well so if you're the type to try new things, this is the place. I got the Brown Stew Oxtail, Jerk Shrimp, Vegan Chopped Cheese, and the Chicken. The braidings and blistering on these empanadas are all different which shows me a lot of attention to detail and dedication in his craft. My favorite was the Oxtail and Jerk Shrimp. The crunchiness of the empanadas with the filling was a great combination. I didn't enjoy the vegan chopped cheese as much as I hoped but that could be because I don't really enjoy vegan food that way. It was a different and unique taste however. The chicken is always a classic and he did it very well. I'm excited to come back and try the other empanadas Ray has! Stop by if you are looking for a delicious snack or a meal!

Washington Ave…read more Bergenfield NJ 07621 Angus Beef Bacon Cheeseburger Cuban Sweet Thai Chicken Spinach & Feta On the Southern part of Washington Avenue is a Latin American spot that specializes in homemade empanadas. Owner Galo and Manager Felipe introduced me to a variety of the signature product. Check out the outer layers of these crispy empanadas. If you think they look this good on the outside, wait until you see the inner fillings! Angus Beef: This original version of this folded hot pastry is packed with plenty of angus beef along with sautéed peppers & onions. Bacon Cheeseburger: This may have a similar appearance to the previous empanada, but do not be deceived. Imagine having a juicy succulent bacon cheeseburger in a crunchy shell in lieu of a hamburger roll. Cuban: Here's a perfect variation of the classic Cuban sandwich. The pork was smoked for several hours and it also includes ham and mozzarella cheese. Sweet Thai Chicken: It's time to try some Thai. The sweet thai chili sauce mixed in this Asian style empanada has the perfect blend of heat and spice. Spinach & Feta: If happen to be a vegetarian or If you just need a break from meat and poultry, the spinach & feta is a must try! As a bonus, these two secret sauces are fantastic supplements for your meat pies! Dunk away in the house made red hot sauce or if you are craving thousand island base with some top secret ingredients then go for the pink sauce. As another bonus, there is a state of the art coffee machine for hot beverages such as expresso, or cappucinno. All in all, each empanada was paradise. When I next return I'm looking forward to exploring their other empanadas as well as the side dishes. #empanadamania #empanadas #cuban #angusbeef #baconcheeseburger #SweetThaiChicken #spinachandfeta #LocalBusiness #foodstagram #eats #njfoodie #localspots #foodreviews

I've heard very good things the past 14 years about Empanada Mania…read more An award winning food truck, a catering business, and this tiny storefront producing big flavors. Street parking; only a few seats to eat inside. Basically a To Go place. These empanadas were awesome!! Big & stuffed with a very nice crispy, fried shell. ( they offer mini sized empanadas too) There are many options of Savory fillings, but I wish they had more "sweet\dessert" types. Which brings me to my favorite: the Guava & Mozzarella Cheese empanada... Best one I've ever had. For upcoming St. Patricks Day (for a limited time) they have -- The Reuben- filled with Smoked Corned Beef, Swiss Cheese & Sauerkraut. EMPAN-TASTIC! Wish I had a beer. -the Cuban Pork empanada made with an 8-hours smoked pork, with ham and mozzarella was very good, but I wasn't a big fan of the Sweet Thai Chicken empanada with, sweet Thai chili sauce, scallion and cilantro.. Maybe I was full... The fries are old school. Reminded me of boardwalk fries. Some a little greasy. Some a little overcooked & crunchy.. So if you like empanadas, you need to give this place a shot.

Pop's Empanadas is a great way to explore that depressive, or impressive, state of mind. The sun barrels its way into my workspace on a spring afternoon. I welcome its studs up challenge and continue to dribble until I can no longer not acknowledge the aura of Apollo's chariot. - I don't recognize Helios as my Sun god, deal with it. - I check my meagerly checking account and my minute wallet and decide "F it" I've not got but do got a few buccaroons to spare as I continue to wheel around for the cheddar in this rat race we call life. In doing so - I notice a certain extensive tingle in my tummy. One that calls for mass amounts of food. In tandem, the shining sun begs me to bask in its warmth. I need to find some food. Sit in a park. Devour said park. And take a long enough lunch that somebody, somewhere, somehow thinks of me. Once that occurs, I will return between the rock and the hard place of which sits a desk, a chair, brittle bones and a big but battered heart. With my pension for poppin' sandwich and my expertise of my surround areas - radius of 45 mins in all direction - I half-conclude on Pop Empanada for my stroll, toll and roll. - TM'ing that don't even think about taking that line. Actually do think about it. And think about how you've never come up with something that original. This is in writing, I'm the first, I'm the last, I'm your everything. - Anyways, I take an 8 min drive out to a lot nearby and stumble in upon my order. The empanadas are solid, shrimp one is superior. Haven't tried them all. Not crying home to mama about em' but that's not the star of the show so it doesn't matter. I haven't tried everything and definitely should. But every time I'm feeling like I need to challenge my bowels I go straight for this Cuban Sandwich. My oh my. This thing may weigh 5 pounds. Packed to the brim. Sturdy bread. I mean it's literally one of the biggest boys I've ever corralled. It's tasty, tender, savory and sweet. Crunchy, chewy, choppy and neat. This would feed a normal man for an entire day. I, to no surprise of the reader, am not a normal man. By the end of munching on this crunching I'm panting and sweating and clenching my chest. My cholesterol spike so high that a doctor wouldn't even be able to help. By 75% of sandwich completion I don't even want the rest. It's just my hard wired protocol that this whole pups gotta hit the pound. I just gotsss to complete my task. This is probably the best Cuban I've ever had - in sandwich form... if you catch my straits of Florida drift. For the price, it is one of the best bang for buck sandwiches I've ever had. Highly recommend you give Pop Empanada a go. On a sunny mid week afternoon there's a hot chance you'll catch me reviving myself from a heart attack on the bench in the park only a stone throws away. Don't to try help me. It's all part of my sick game. Love you, babes, have a beautiful day - LB.

You'll find El Artesano Empanads in the Sir John Plaza next to Violetta Nails. While tiny, they offer some outside seating along with two high top tables inside. Guys...the food was DELICIOUS. I ordered their viral steak sandwich, churros, and of course, their empanadas. The steak sandwich was INCREDIBLE. I intended to share it with my fiancé however he's not eating bacon and they were not able to make a sandwich without it (Which was not a problem for me, so I was happy to have this sandwich all to myself ). Expert tip: add cheese. It was incredibly flavorful and seasoned perfectly! For the empanadas I decided to get a box of 6, as they have SO MANY FLAVORS! (See video). All were delicious and we were given a yummy chipotle and chimichurri sauce to dip. $ of course we had to get dessert; so we got the churros that were served with a chocolate and dulce de leche sauce. INCREDIBLE!! The lady who took my order was kind and helpful as I navigated all the choices. I am so happy I found this little gem so close to my house! I will definitely be back soon!

Today I received a different side sauce: red pepper and jalapeño, which are totally different than the one they had before. Previously the side sauce was more similar to chimichurri. Though the new sauce is not common to the flavors of South America, I like better. My favorite is the jalapeño and is spicy. They take a few minutes to warm up the empanadas and the times I was there it was not busy. The indoor seating area is small and still seems cozy. I usually order to go. I believe when the weather is warmer they also have some outdoor seating. They also offered pizza before but I learned today they don't anymore.

Rinconcito has an old time diner feel to it - you have the option of sitting up at the counter on raised red stools or at one of the 3 small tables against the wall. It can get a little warm in there, but only because you are right next to the kitchen no matter where you sit! The first time we came here, I made the mistake of ordering a bacon, egg, and cheese on a roll. What was I thinking?!? Yes, it was good, but I was being too cautious. I tried some of my bf's empanada and I was INSTANTLY hooked! We wound up ordering a second round of empanadas that morning! Since then, we've gotten take out a few times - I got to try the chicharrone. So sinful, but so delicious! Not to mention the salsa verde that they give you with each order...MMM! I would say that this was lucky cause the place was packed. Generally loud but you can still talk with people on your party. One of the first things I look for is if a restaurant serves you water when you sit and here they do and the waitress would often make sure we were topped off. That is something that is always appreciated and noticed by me. The food was generally good and service was fast. I tried various dishes and while great tasting nothing really stood out like lots of the reviews said and I tried a bit of everything that was recommended in the reviews. (Even ox tail empanadas which sounds weird but weren't bad). I think the biggest appeal here is that it's 24 hours so you know you always have a quality place to go to that is great.
