Usually it's in an upscale…read moreneighborhood and restaurant and 99.9% of the time it's gimmicky garbage offensive to the authentic tradition and flavors of Mexico. It's always in a place where they spent more money on marble counter tops and decor then actual quality ingredients. So going into this place my expectations were already bottom level and expected the usual trendy nightmare of hot garbage the housewives of Westchester would call "LIKE awesome Mexican" I was thankfully wrong this is not a trendy housewives of Westchester Mexican spot. Taco street has blended perfectly true tradition Mexican flavors but on an upscale level without any ridiculous gimmicks. It's a small place and you order at the front then they bring you the food. Everything is fresh to order and it's a decent sized portions. Kids meals are a decent size and good value as well. They also have an all day breakfast menu and that automatically gets them on my awesome list. I rated it 5 stars. True score of 4.1. I went with 5 because I wanted to boost the overall score because the place is obviously getting lower marks from the spoiled privileged brats (the adults) in the area that expect it to be a trendy ridiculous club like atmosphere as they sip on overly watered down frozen margaritas.

The place was pretty much empty and I have to admit I was skeptical until I tasted my food. All doubt went away lol. I started with a red Sangria, and they brought me some warm nachos with salsa which I devoured. By that time I was full but managed to leave a small spot for my entree of steak and shrimp fajitas. It came out smoking hot (you can see the smoke in my picture), nice crispness to the veggies and the steak and shrimp seasoned to perfection! It came with guacamole, sour cream, rice and black beans. I also have to give a shout out to the service. I was checked on the entire time I was there and I really enjoyed both the food and the service. Sometimes this factor of being the only customers worries me. We committed to trying it anyway and order margaritas along with the ceviche de cameron to split. Next we ordered the molcajete as we saw a picture of one on the menu and had to have it. Best decision for sure. We were both full and satisfied with our meal and the service we received. This was my first visit back to La Casa since my initial visit back when they first opened. During…read moremy first experience, I wasn't too impressed and left a 3-star review. However, I'm happy to report that I dined here recently and had a better experience. Since the time of my initial review, La Casa remained in my periphery - mainly because my parents periodically visited and it was a frequent stop of one of my friends who lives in Bronxville. That being said, I was curious to check out La Casa again - and that opportunity came when my mother chose here to celebrate Mother's Day. La Casa is located just off the main commercial strips. The interior is pretty spacious with a bar towards the front of the restaurant and the main dining room split in two sections. The decor is somewhat under-toned with a cool color scheme and tasteful decor. This is in contrast with other Mexican restaurants that tend to go overboard with the kistch and warm colors. I will say the seats look a little tired, they could use some re-upholstering - and were a little lower to the ground than I expected. In addition to the indoor space, they have an outdoor section which was done up very nicely. The brunch menu contained a selection of apps, sides, quesadillas, tacos, and sides. We decided to start by splitting a few apps: brisket and al pastor tacos, a quesadilla, street corn, chips and guac, and more guac with tuna. All the apps were tasty - the biggest standouts for me were the quesadilla and the tacos which were all generously filled and had good flavor. For my main, I got the camarones a la diabla which were shrimp in a red pepper sauce placed atop beans and paired with bok choy. The dish was pretty good - the shrimp could have been a bit snappier, but I appreciate that they de-shelled them and the sauce and beans worked well with them. Dare I say the bok choy was the star of the dish? It had just enough flavor and added a needed green. We opted for dessert, and I got the grilled pineapple which was paired with (per the menu) vanilla ice cream or guanabana sorbet. I wasn't asked to choose, and was served the sorbet. I would have liked to have been given the option, but maybe that's all they had - fwiw the sorbet was good. The pineapple was candied and came as a large, thick ring - definitely needed a knife and fork to cut it up (which they provided); this was a good dish in concept but I think it can be executed better. Service was good, everyone was friendly and efficient. In my experience, service tends to be the weakest component of a meal on a holiday, but they did a great job. Overall, I had a good experience at La Casa. Even though it's not in my backyard, I would definitely return if the opportunity presented itself.

You'd think with places like Sundance Kitchen, Cantina, and Roof Taco down the block, this…read morerestaurant would want to go out of its way to keep customers, but it turns out the opposite is true. They couldn't care less. I recently moved to the neighborhood and was genuinely hoping to make Catrina my go-to Mexican spot, but after how I was treated, I'd rather spend my money elsewhere. It was around 3:30 PM on a Sunday and the place was practically empty -- only two tables occupied outside and one inside. I ordered a burrito bowl, which came out to $20 after tax, and sat down at one of the outdoor metal tables to eat. A woman from behind the bar came outside and, in a very rude and dismissive tone, told me I was not allowed to eat there and essentially kicked me out. There was no politeness, no explanation, no attempt at hospitality whatsoever. What made it even worse was that I ended up having to eat my food sitting on the street next door after just buying it from them. It was honestly embarrassing and completely unnecessary, especially considering how empty the restaurant was. The unfortunate part is that the burrito bowl itself was actually very good. But when the service is rude and you make a paying customer feel unwelcome and embarrassed, it ruins the food. A good meal stops feeling enjoyable when it comes attached to that kind of treatment. Customer service matters just as much as the food, and after the way I was treated, this became an instant 1-star experience for me. First impressions matter, and unfortunately this one guaranteed I won't be coming back.

I never had chilaqulies before so it was cool to try a new dish. ( It sorta reminded me of loaded nachos. The meats and toppings were loaded on top of the chips. However, it did make the chips less crispy. Don't hate me if that was how it was meant to be eaten. But I wished the chips were placed on the side like the rice and beans to keep the chips crispy).
