Not exactly what I was expecting based on the reviews. The good: ample parking, lovely outdoor space (which we didn't utilize as we visited late November), nice beer selection, fun family atmosphere, decent food variety for a brewery and fantastic staff (easy going, attentive, friendly. Truly, 10/10). The not-so-good: the food. It was unfortunately just mediocre. We ordered the classics - fried chicken sandwich, classic burger, pizza margarita and fries, and felt that each missed the mark. Chicken sandwich's flavors were off; Burger was dry; pizza had excessive sauce and acidity; and the fries were over-salty. I can see myself coming back with a group to just hangout and enjoy the drinks and vibes, but would not vouch for this place if food quality was a priority. read more

I will say, they know how to handle groups and families. Much appreciated! We got here around noon on a Sunday, and the tables filled up quickly. It looks like a lot of tables were reserved ahead of time, though you can squat at those tables ahead of a reservation being made. The team quickly brought over water and menus. They knew how to handle to chaos of a table with little kids. They also made it easy to close out when we had to make a quick run for it. I appreciate the large beer selection and food selection. I hadn't expected more than just regular bar food, but they have a ton of options, including a Buddha bowl. Kids menu was ample. The Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich was solid. Great evening al fresco. Grabbed a table around 5:30pm and enjoyed the evening. The servers keep things moving (but as it gets later, the bar and kitchen get backed up, be patient). The shrimp roll was absolutely delish and the carnitas tacos were the real deal. I included a burger we had in the photos a few weeks ago but forgot to post. Also really good. You can't go wrong. I not only loved this brewery because of the awesome atmosphere and being a lover of beer and going to new breweries but the food here was incredible. I had the chicken sandwich and the pretzel. The cheese sauce that comes with pretzel is very tasty! The drinks we had were tasty as well. I had the orange crush beer ( 2 of them actually) and then I had a mixed drink. I came here for my first time a few days ago for a fundraising event I helped out at. They have this really cool like give back thing where on Thursdays you can collect donations for whatever charity you are with and then its happy hour pricing for the people who donate all night. I also can't begin to tell you how wonderful the staff was here. Since we had a table by the door the staff would ask if we need anything .. drinks, food or anything else. Captain Lawrence Brewing Company is a craft brewery that opened in Pleasantville, New York in 2006. It was founded by head brewer Scott Vaccaro. In 1995, Vaccaro saw a high school classmate's father homebrewing and asked if he could help assist. Still just a teenager, Vaccaro was told that he would be allowed with parental permission. He later enrolled at Villanova University to study accounting, but transferred to UC Davis to study fermentation science when he realized that beer was his true passion. Vaccaro interned at Adnams Brewery in the UK and later worked at Sierra Nevada Brewing Company. He opened his first brewery on Castleton Street in Pleasantville. He named it "Captain Lawrence" in reference to the street that he grew up on: "Captain Lawrence Drive" (named for the 18th century militia captain Samuel Lawrence). In 2011, after outgrowing its 20-barrel system, the brewery relocated to a larger space in Elmsford that had a bottling line and a larger brew system. In May 2019, the Elmsford brewery expanded to 33,000-square-feet and added a full-service restaurant. In October 2020, the brewery opened a secondary Barrel House location in Mount Cisco which focuses on barrel-aging and blending both beer and spirits. My son and I recently visited Captain Lawrence Brewing for lunch. My wife and I visited the brewery a couple of times when we first started dating. The brewery had changed a lot since my last visit; I love the new restaurant space that they have now. One thing is for sure, the brewery is very family friendly. I couldn't help but notice that there were a lot of people who were like me: late 30s/early 40s, got into craft beer about 10 years ago, who now had young children, etc. Although the food menu features a variety of different dishes, my son and I were in the mood for wood-fired pizza. We decided to order the "Pepperoni Pie" (marinara, mozz, pecorino) and the "Honeybear Pie" (marinara, mozz, sausage, hot honey, whipped ricotta, oregano). The pizzas came out super fast and they were super delicious! To pair with the pizza, I ordered a beer flight which consisted of "Hop Commander" (IPA), "Jam Juice" (Hazy IPA), "Golden Delicious" (Belgian Tripel), and "Dark Chocolate Cherry" Imperial Stout). They were all pretty good, but the tripel was my favorite. If you read my reviews word for word, you know I don't drink beer and have never as an adult. As a kid though, I'd sneak in some beer and add sugar to it (gross right?) when my parents had house parties. I'm so sure that's what set it off. Why come here then? Well, aside from beer- which hubs loves, Captain Lawrence has Red/White Sangria and a Mule (glass) cocktails and canned cocktails (?). Plus their food items sound good of course. I can see the outside seating area getting jam-packed in warm months- but it was so bone-chilling cold- inside it was. Lots of seating with like a separate space for private parties(?) and a gift shop to the left as soon as you come in here. We placed our order up front at the bar then given a buzzer to hold on to and pick up our order- but it was actually brought to us. Thank you! Their 1-page menu has a bit of everything for Vegans, Vegetarians and carnivores. My Mornay+ Mushroom pizza was quite good with those char marks I love- but not burnt to a crisp. My Miso-Maple Brussel Sprouts without bacon as I requested it were very tasty. So were hubs chewy-good pretzels that he enjoyed dipping in the mustard and I enjoyed without it. He also liked their buffalo-chili rub wings. The drinks? My Sangria (actually got 2) packed a very nice punch and hubs' enjoyed his 2 West Coast IPAs. Whatever makes a good brewery/beer garden- it's probably here: the staff is friendly and the mood is upbeat as you enjoy your pint on cafeteria-style tables. We actually sat awayyyy from everybody else on high-tops. But am I missing something....since when do beer gardens or anywhere they serve alcohol a free-for-all for parents to bring in their babies and toddlers???? This is a great spot for food and drinks. I was in the area for Pickleball and ended up here. I got the fig pizza and was pleasantly surprised. It consisted of crust, arugula, Parmesan cheese, fig jam and prosciutto. It was fresh and very tasty. They have a lot of other food options here ie. burgers, wings, empanadas, salads, etc. I'd definitely stop back in to try more of their food options. The indoor space was large too. This would be a great space for a party or an event. There is plenty of indoor seating including picnic tables and high tops with standing room. Came here Saturday afternoon after a day of hiking. The place was great and I would like to give it a full five stars, but there's just one thing. It is WAYYYYY too kid friendly for me. I prefer my breweries/distilleries/wineries sans children running amok. If you're coming in a large group, I highly recommend making a reservation. We came without one. We had no problem getting a table inside, but outside, each picnic table was reserved. The parking spots are also QUICK to go. There's really nowhere else to park other than the lot so you're just gonna keep circling until someone pulls out. After a while, we did find a spot and found our way in. The place is HUGE. Nice outdoor spot with plenty of tables. The first door is to the distillery and the second leads into the indoor dining with the bar and where you order food. We got a table inside without a problem. Plenty available. To order food and drinks, you have to go up to the bar, but they also have tableside service because not long after we sat down, a very friendly waiter came to take our drink and food orders. It's not only beer they have here. They also have their own spirits and they have wine as well which is great because I'm very picky with my beers. I started off with the Ginger Mule. A DELICIOUS blend of organic ginger beer, lime, and a choice of CS local whiskey, vodka or gin, or Lunazul Tequila. I chose the gin. Ginger Mules are my usual go-to's. This was probably one of the best ones I've ever had. Perfect blend and so refreshing! Can't go wrong for $12. For food, we started off with the warm pretzel. It was good, but not the best I've had. Came with beer cheese and mustard. The pretzel was kind of hard and not warm, soft, and chewy like I'm used to. Seems like it was made with a whole wheat dough of some sort. I had the Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl for my main. Didn't think I'd get a great poke bowl at a brewery but it was so tasty! Came with a good portion of sticky rice, Sesame Furikake, Cucumber, Avocado, Crispy Shallots, Sriracha Mayo, and Pickled Ginger. The tuna was perfect and tender and the crispy shallots finished the dish off wonderfully. One of the best poke bowls I've had. I also tried a slice of the Honeybear pizza. The crust could have been a little firmer, but it was a tasty pizza nonetheless. Now, I'm not exaggerating when I say this but it was like having drinks on a playground. The ratio of children to adults was astronomically skewed. If you want to go get hammered with your children in tow, fine, but that's not my kind of scene. I like to have my cocktails in peace while I don't have children circling around me and screaming at the top of their lungs. That's really the only thing that'll keep me from coming back to this place. A good reprieve from the children is sitting in the distillery. You can have beers and do tastings of their gin/whiskey/vodka. I tried the vodka and gin and I have to say that they were REALLY good. Crisp and clean. The gin has fennel in it, which I really don't like, but it actually worked well! A bottle of it was $35 which is a good price for a decent-sized bottle. A bottle of whiskey on the other hand was $75. The food, drink, most of the wait staff, and the atmosphere sans children get five stars, but I have to take it down a star for the droves of children running wild. Just don't think this is the place for them to be. That's just my opinion. The place is also squeaky clean, reasonably priced, and has empty six-packs filled with utensils and napkins at each table. Talk about busy! This appears to be the happening spot on a Sat night. One thing that's pretty cool is that they allow kids in here. Not sure if there's a cut off time when it becomes adults only but I'm sure there is. Anyways, pizza. When it comes to food that's what they appear to be about and I'd have to say they do it well. I honestly wanted a second it to definitely taste what else they had to offer but just didn't have the time. I saw a super hazy on the list and was torn between the two b/c I love me a hazy as well. Seating in this place is aight. It's seat yourself. There's hella picnic table style seating like Oktoberfest but when you start getting more and more larger ppl in there the ability to get around diminishes pretty quickly. It is loud in there and I do mean loud. At times it was difficult to hold a conversion across the table. They have hella tv's. Gotta order everything at the bar and pickup your food yourself which is when that comment about it being difficult to maneuver comes in play. But everyone was nice and would move when you yelled "excuse me!" Service is quick. Our food was ready within minutes of ordering. They are fast and efficient. Mid-Saturday afternoon, took a special trip over to this long-standing brewery for a couple of beers. Back in the day this place was a lot smaller, doing out tickets for unlimited beers. Nowadays the location has truly expanded, with a full kitchen, dining hall, and outdoor tent for games and live entertainment. Since it was nice out, grabbed a table under the tent and placed an order inside. Opted for their Seasonal Flight ($12), which includes four 4-oz beers: Orbital Tilt- malty hop, bitter mouthfeel Mood Awakening- good standard IPA with multiple hops Oats McGoats- smooth dark roast porter Orange Crusher- odd tasting orange beer, like a light Fanta Service here is quick and food looks decent as well. The place is so comfortable, you can come here and eat,drink and have a great time and always feel relaxed. They have great beers and now include a distillery with vodka, and gin. The food was delicious, excellent wings and pizza. And the nachos were fantastic with some great white cheese on them that made them unique. They have expanded the place and created a large room indoors for eating and drinking. I stay outside which is where I'd prefer to be, however when the cold weather comes it will be nice to enjoy. It's been a while since I've been here, and I think they have made it better, although even more crowded now than I recall. It was just as I remember though always relaxing. read more
