I've eaten here several times and it only seems to get better. Honestly, I took my cousins out and every dish was flavorful, attractive and satisfying. We shared a guacamole with its extra special and flavorful roasted chili topping. Excellent. The drinks were popular all around. I got the Mezcal margarita and it was a zinger. Perhaps the Tumblr a little too small, but the price was fair. In fact, all the prices seemed very reasonable and fair, which is much appreciated during this challenging economic time. I got two sets of tacos, the grilled shrimp and the Carne Asada. Both were quite excellent. The meats were cooked just right. The steak was very flavorful. The salsa, avocado, salsa, and toppings just what I wanted and more. Perhaps my only criticism would be tortillas. They seemed a little flimsy and. broke apart after the first or second bite. This place punches WAY above its weight in quality. I've been probably at least a dozen times and have never had anything "miss". Food is always fresh, prices are really decent, and the portions are generous. They offer a number of vegan options, weekly specials and deals, such as 20% off tacos on Tuesday's. I ordered the squash taquitos, with a side of rice and beans and churros for dessert. I enjoyed the pesto sauce and vegan crema from the taquitos and mixed it along with the rice and beans. The churros were yummy, as well as the chocolate sauce that came with it. The food was decent nothing to rave about honestly...maybe for dobbs ferry its a good spot. The guy working at the bar when we first walked in was friendly nice and totally accommodating so we expected the experience to go that way. My friend and i came in from the city after a long day at the park with our kids. You could tell from the get go our server seemed like it was going to be a lot for her to handle but honestly what ensuring theres enough water on the table for a party of 7? We got one bottle and glass cups for the kids. Which didnt cover half of us to have water. The constant can we please have more water was becoming annoying honestly. The space cant hold a ton of people so there really shouldnt be any form of "it was a busy night" But the second to worst part was at the end when I gathered all the dishes off the table and piled them up on the edge of the table to be taken (essentially helping them out) no one collected the dishes while they walked by at least 4 times and even when she gave us the bill they remained there. But the worst part of it all was when i ordered my sons rice and beans on the side of his burrito it didnt come and when i asked for it she told me the entire meal had to be replaced...kinda confusing when we just wanted it on the side...so i told her to forget...but it gets worse...my friend goes and orders another burrito for her kid (happy jack i believe it was) where its totally different from what my son ordered...and instead they serve my sons original order with the rice and beans on the side and not my friends sons burrito (my kid ate chicken my friend and her kids are vegetarian so do the math) Anyways we let them know this isnt what we asked for and our server (i guess which was expected from her) caught major attitude and told us we werent clear But when we point to the dish and say another order of only rice and bean burrito...u know its amazing how people are offended over non sense when in fact it was simply the flustered server who was over whelmed from the moment we came in. Had a nice wonderful lunch here. Sat outside at the umbrella tables. Ordered a chicken taco salad and a Baja fish taco. Salad was excellent with a delicious poblano dressing and chicken was juicy, unlike the leather chicken that usually tops a salad! Loved the quinoa and watermelon that was hidden in the salad! Fuss tacos were crispy and perfectly done with a cold slaw on top. Yum! Loved my mango margarita and chips and salsa! Very friendly staff that give great service! Bravo! read more

When we entered the place, we were greeted by Skye, who would be our server. She had a big smile on and made us feel welcome. The place has many vegan options which was nice to see! The nachos we ordered tasted amazing! The toppings included vegan chili, beans, cheese and guacamole. We also ordered the sauce sampler for only $3. The samples weren't as small as I thought they would be. The sauces had a range of flavors from sour to sweet to spicy. We were not too fond of their chocolate sauce sample but it was nice to see something different! The shrimp fajita bowl tasted very good. It was a good mix of spicy, saucy, crunchy. The shrimp tacos were a little bit spicier than expected so I had hard time finishing them (if you can't handle spice, I advise not ordering it). Overall, I did like the place! I wouldn't say I was blown away by anything, but this place does the job. The restaurant is small, but has a festive atmosphere, outdoor seating, ok food, and reasonable prices. I ordered a watermelon salad, which truthfully was quite boring since it was mainly cabbage. However, in all fairness, I had gotten my hopes up because that morning, I happened to see a few incredibly appetizing watermelon salads on Pinterest. While my own experience was a little disappointing, I can tell that there are other dishes here that are better. The rest of my party was very pleased with their burritos/burrito bowl. Sister restaurant to Grass Roots Kitchen in Tarrytown (and Sweet Grass Grill I think?), Tomatillo is a super laid-back spot for grabbing unique Mexican fare. Located steps away from Broadway in Dobbs Ferry, Tomatillo was grab & go for me. The setting has nice color bursts, an awesome Brick wall and unusual props. Menu doesn't just stop with tacos because it's filled with lots more. And just like their other two restaurants, menu here is personally right up my alley with Vegan and Vegetarian dishes and some Seafood. Plus there's chicken, red meat and pork items too. I skipped the Vegan "bacon" quick and Chipotle aioli from getting to my Tacos. But I overlooked a few ingredients I can't have for lifestyle, dietary reasons or just because I'm me- like the coleslaw I picked out of a Taco. Flavors were decent though- plus these guys don't play around with substance because my 3 Tacos were crammed with either Seafood or Cauliflower. This is a very nice concept- but my only complaint is these guys just use 1-ply corn tortillas and my Tacos totally fell apart. Tomatillo has a nice buzz though and looks like it's everyone's favorite joint. Service was ok the short time I was there- plus there are a few other things I'd like to try. read more

They are definitely going for a trendy Brooklyn/College town type of crowd and atmosphere. Overall there is nothing original or different about this restaurant. It's uniqueness comes from it being in Dobbs Ferry but this isn't an insult. The area desperately needed a place like this and brings a welcoming change. Lots of vegetarian and vegan options. The crispy cauliflower fajita bowl is a favorite and the Super Nachos with the vegetarian chili is a great starter. Overall everything is above average for this style of Mexican. I have tried dozens of restaurants that try to "Americanize" Mexican food and it usually completely fails and sometimes is just plain insulting to the heritage and the culture. Tomatillo walks that fine line but achieves enough authentic flavors in their traditional dishes that both hardcore enthusiasts and Tesla driving Soccer parents can dine together at the same table and everyone will be happy. The Drink menu is similar to what you would find in a Gastro Pup and the kids menu is a bonus. The place is small but cozy and the staff is friendly. Prices are fair for the area and atmosphere. If I could I would add a few more points for a final score of 4.3 because of the small complimentary chips and salsa that they give to every table. read more

You don't realize how small this restaurant is until your seated inside, but in my opinion this isn't a bad thing because it adds to its's aesthetic. They have no idea of what is actually available and seem really scared to ask anything from the kitchen. the final straw was when our waitress came to our table, visibly having cried with the owner in the background. I ordered take away so I can't comment much on service except that they were nice and helpful on the phone and in person. After some expensive, very mediocre food in NYC, I was thrilled to have excellent chicken tacos and a side of black beans at a reasonable price in the little town of Dobbs Ferry. These were as good if not better than tacos and black beans I often ate in Santa Fe NM. Took food out this time and the chips and salsa are decent but the chips were loaded and I mean loaded with too much salt. Shrimp bowl could have used a little more flavor and the shrimp are on the small side. They also ran out of tortillas so had a burrito in a bow with steak which was also just ok. Let me start by saying this first... my food was delicious. The back of the house was on point. My sis and I walked in and were immediately greeted. We saw two tables in the window but were quickly told that they were reserved and would need to take another table (2 other 2-person options-this is important). The window seats were for 2-3 people. So, no problem we sat down and ordered. I ordered hot tea and she got a margarita. Her margarita took a little time and my tea was lukewarm at best, I left 98% in the cup. Then our appetizer came and my food came quickly after. Another couple comes in and ask to be seated in the window seat to which the same waitress who told us to take another seat quickly agreed and moved the reserve sign to another table, while saying "we can just move this over here". Crazy because when we came we were told no, smh- issue #1. We kept on pushing and just figured we will enjoy our food. However after several minutes of waiting and almost finishing my food we asked the waitress about my sister's food to which she seemed puzzled. Somehow she never put in her order- Issue #2. While this place is good, a vegan's dream, and has a great location I will never return. I don't want to make assumptions but we definitely have as to why we received different service than the couple who came after us and that was not a comfortable feeling. But please to enjoy the food, it is delicious, it's just a no for me moving forward. read more

Really wanted to like this place again after years of boycotting it. Finally came back. Chicken quesadilla we got as an appetizer to share came with no chicken just cheese. But it was really good, and I remembered it from years ago. So that was sent back and it came with the chicken the second time. Upon getting our meals my husband's was right but waitress came out with soup, which I didn't order. Then asked me what I ordered. Unfortunately all these mix ups have cost us time on the metered street parking and my lunch time. My husband will finish his food before I get mine. Unfortunately i cannot give this place a great review which I was hoping to be able to do, but this is enough. Staff was friendly, food is not bad but not amazing to make up for all the confusion. Great for dine-in and only dropping a star because we consistently find that when we pick up food to bring home that we are missing items or they don't retain their warmth on the way home. It was busy put not packed. Decided to start with the guacamole. It went nicely with the complementary chips & salsa. The salsa was tasty, nice acidic kick. The guacamole was good, could've used more lime maybe. You also don't get a ton for the $8 it cost. They have a pretty nice cocktail list, with the requisite margaritas. I'd love to get one, but college really messed me up on tequila for life. So I went with a tasty pineapple cider. They have a good craft beer list too. For dinner I got the chicken club burrito. It was a neat grilled burrito with tasty chicken, chorizo, rice, beans, cheese and salsa. It's started off nice and neat, it turned into a mess by the end, but that's the burrito life. Was it good? I just had a delicious burrito at Tomatillo. I got the Oaxacan, which has chicken, cheese and mole negro. It came with a small cup of mole negro and guacamole on the side. This was a good sized burrito for the price. Nicely plated. Great little green salad on the side, for eating not garnish. Chips and salsa were very good. This is a very good mole negro. It's hard to find, most of the time you will find a mole poblano. These folks know how to make mole Negro so if you miss it, never had it and want that deep chocolate chile base, come here. They should use it with other dishes too. They serve chicken in other items, like burritos and tacos. I didn't see any whole chicken breast or chicken on the bone entrees. With mole like this, they could try chicken enchiladas mole or mole over the whole breast, typical of that region. It deserves it and they could do it well. I bet those chefs could do a great mole pipián too. read more

This place was great! My friends birthday fell on the first day of lent .. so we needed a vegan friendly place to have some good food and this was it ! The vegan nachos were amazing. We also had cauliflower taco, tempeh taco, jackfruit and pineapple tacos, and kale and jackfruit tacos .. all delicious! The only thing we did notice tho that the cheese or flavor of the sauce (not sure what it was) .. made every dish taste slightly similar .. but again still good! They also had mocktails along with cocktails which was perfect for our situation ! And to top it all off, the staff were all great with pleasant attitudes and friendly faces. What the f*** happened to this place???????? I want an answer from the manager!!!!! This place in its hay day used to crank out delicious dishes. Lots of flavor and lots of pride in the dishes they would present. I used to run back for more like a kid to a candy store. I recently went back and they have f***ed up the whole fucking menu. ALL OF IT. The staff does not have any knowledge of what an enchilada is supposed to look like, since they kept bringing me the wrong dish repeatedly. I did not order a f******* QUESADILLA DAMMIT. The staff took the order wrong three times. (PLEASE TRAIN YOUR STAFF and SHOW THEM WHAT THE F***** an ENCHILADA LOOKS LIKE). I also ordered a side of soft corn tortillas and for some odd reason they were cut like triangles?? Why would you cut a circle into a triangle? Do you understand I can't fit S*** on the tortilla if you cut it like a triangle. What the F**** is wrong with the chefs in the back. Do they need to get some training from their mom and pop on how to serve tortillas???? Not sure, what happened to this place but I will never go back. Such a HUGE DISASTER!!!!! Please cut your losses and close the place down ASAP!!!!! This so called Mexican establishment is a disgrace to Mexican food. read more

Where do I begin. The chicken was covered in a mystery green sauce which was unexpected, what was more surprising was that the mystery sauce had absolutely no taste whatsoever so what was it? I was not fond of having to build my meal with three mini tortillas that I paid $20 for, that was pretty absurd along with my $6 beer. The fact that the little metal sauce bowls were placed on top of actual food was by far the silliest thing they could do because where were they resting before they were placed directly on food? That absolutely has to change. Green sauce that I expected to be mildly spicy was awkwardly sweet and not good with the meal. Guacamole was okay but also lacking some serious kick. Service was way too slow on not a busy day at all. Overall this place is way overpriced for meal quality and portion sizes. I truly believe the cook should take a course in this type of cuisine because what is being served is subpar and quite the embarrassment to what it claims to be. read more

Cute small place that's good for a couple of groups and party's of two's. I went on a Friday night (830ish) and was sat right away. We ordered guacamole ($6-7) and it was not worth the it for the size and taste (my bf ended up adding salt and the salsa mix because it was so bland in taste but did have a spicy kick to it). We both ordered burritos. My bf liked his and mine. I thought mine was OKAY. I don't remember the name of it but it wasn't amazing. The service was great.. Up until the waiter put the bill right on top of the chips we were still working on. That was a little weird but everything else about the service was great. Everyone was friendly and attentive. Ugh, I don't write many reviews, but this place for whatever reason broke a solid menu. I live in Texas now, but my family is still in Westchester. For the most part Tex Mex and Mexican food here absolutely blows the doors off anything back home. However tomatillo always had a very unique and interesting flavor profile. Real fresh ingredients, the right spice, and just a great meal. They changed their menu and the last two times was just dull. It's not that it's bad, but it's just not very good. My main issue was the burrito bowl which had a surplus of sauce that made it more of a soup. It wasn't very edible. The burrito was also just off. No longer is it wet and full of flavor, but dry and lacking anything special. Also, I always apluaded the excellent younger staff, but both times recently it was just two serves extremely overwhelmed during the lunch shift. I write this negative review with love, because I can't see us ever coming back here anymore with the current changes. Thanks for all the great years though. read more
