Had a great experience at Avra! The restaurant just opened and the space is absolutely beautiful. As soon as you walk in, it feels very upscale and luxurious. The interior is gorgeous, well decorated, and surprisingly spacious. I went with a large group and we had a reservation. We were seated right away in a private room in the back, which was perfect for our group. Our server, Maggie, was amazing. She was friendly, attentive, and very patient with us, especially since we had a lot of people. We ordered a few appetizers to share. My favorite was the grilled calamari. It was different from the usual fried calamari you find at most restaurants and was really fresh. I also loved the Greek salad--it was super fresh and simple in the best way. One of the coolest parts is that they have a display of fresh fish that you can choose from. Our table ordered a few different fish dishes and everyone enjoyed them. I got the Wagyu for my entree and it was delicious. This is definitely a higher-end restaurant and the prices reflect that, but the food, service, and atmosphere made it worth it. What a very beautiful restaurant. Finally came here to try to find out what all the buzz was so I came here with a friend. We ordered the Greek salad, tuna tartare, fried calamari and the Seabass. I'll just get straight to the point. The Greek salad was very basic, which was pretty much a tomato salad with slices of cucumbers with two good feta cheese. That's pretty much it. Nothing special. The tuna tartare although very elegantly displayed seemed a little dry so I added the table olive oil, which was very good indeed all over the dish and it was very palpable. The fried calamari was very basic and I've had better sorry but they should take this off the menu. You can get this sort of thing in any other eating establishment but for high-end it's almost an insult to the restaurant ambience. The Seabass was absolutely delicious. The only criticism about the dish was the vegetables. Basically, the carrots were undercooked, and the potatoes were overcooked and not necessary and the only thing I like about it was the caramelized grilled onions however, it was thrown in the sauce and basically it was a huge ring and it kind of insulted the Seabass dish and the flavor. Honestly, this dish would've been perfect if you just had the sauce and the sea bass without these floating vegetables surrounding it like a stew ...it doesn't match the dish elegance so get rid of it! Now to the desserts. I order the orange cake... fabulous loved it. I can eat 10 of those. And then there was the Avra special dessert. Nothing special about it. The Service was friendly... too much since the server was talking about his digestive issues since he had celiac disease and recommended gluten food that he couldn't eat. By his recommendation, I also enjoyed the mocktail which was hibiscus.... Loved it.. I like the restaurant I would come here again, but honestly, it is far from a five star establishment. They're trying too hard and I understand the popularity and the ambience, but this is more trendy than it is a five star establishment in entirety. The food needs a little more tweaking to my opinion. This place could be the world class establishment. read more

I've been to countless high-end seafood restaurants and have never seen lobsters left alive on ice with their claws bound shut. It is needlessly cruel and far below the standard I'd expect from a restaurant of this caliber. There are more humane ways to achieve the same result. This wasn't impressive--it was disturbing. The city can always use an upscale Greek spot and Avra delivers! The layout and decor is very chic and cool which attracts people to stay for a while. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful with picking out the best items on the menu. We ordered the Greek Salad, Classic Spreads, Branzino, Grilled Vegetables and Roasted Lemon Potatoes. I appreciated de-boning the Branzino for us as well - they guarantee 95% of the bones will be removed. Everything was 10/10 - so fresh and delicious! They also provided complimentary hummus to start and sorbet for dessert. It is on the pricier side but the quality of food matches the entire experience. Will be back again! read more

Boston, we've officially entered our "beach club seafood era" with the arrival of Avra. If you have ever had those iconic Avra chips (paper thin, perfectly crisp, dangerously addictive) you already know why this opening matters. And now we don't have to hop on a flight to get them. What makes Avra so fun is the whole experience: you walk in and are immediately drawn to the stunning bar then sashay your way down to the iced seafood display, where you literally pick your fish like you're at a luxe coastal beach club. The menu leans beautifully into pristine sashimi and bright, citrusy ceviches that let the quality of the seafood shine. It's clean, vibrant, and exactly what Boston's dining scene was missing. As soon as you walk into the main restaurant, it's very clear they put a lot of thought into the design. It's beautiful, clean and airy. Service was top tier, including the table side fish deboning. We ordered the avra chips, crab cake, grilled octopus, lamb chops, whole grilled Branzino, grilled king prawns and finished with the avra special dessert. The only sliiight complaint I have is that I wish the avra chips (fried zucchini and eggplant) were a touch more crispy and a little less salted but the cool creamy tzatziki balanced the salt. The whole experience felt rushed. We barely sat down when we were prompted for a beverage from the bar (no water at this point and had not even glanced at the menu). Food was fine - octopus could have been a bit more grilled, halloumi looked unevenly grilled across the dish. Fish had bones after the server filleted it. Dishes were not really "presented" so no experience with how they were plated. Lastly we reeked like fried food leaving there, my hair and clothes stunk. I thought this was going to be an upscale dining experience, I brought my boyfriend for his birthday. It didn't feel upscale at all. Server never prompted about celebrating a birthday so when I requested candle in dessert via the resy app he didn't know whose birthday it was and was like bringing the dessert to me. I had to be like no it's his birthday. Overall unimpressed - the tomatini and the coconut cream pie were phenomenal though. read more

I'm a frequent visitor to New York City and I have eaten at all of the Avra locations in NYC. The kitchen in Boston is equal to the kitchen in New York. Everything was done extremely well. I would say the front of house and specifically the wait staff have a way to go. The service is not as polished. There are gaps. I don't know if it was the bar, but the restaurant was not particularly full and it took a long time for us to get our drinks. Once our meals arrived, it took a long time for a wine to arrive. In fact, the wine almost arrived after the meal was over. The atmosphere is beautiful though not the same scale as say Avra Rockefeller center. Love very those super high ceilings. I think the restaurant has the opportunity to be one of the best in the city, but they definitely have to get this wait staff to take their jobs far more seriously. read more

It's nice to have Avra in Boston. It's a beautiful space. A grand staircase leading you to the upstairs dining area. You are able to select fish for grilling. Variety of fish from the Mediterranean. The service is top notch and we had a friendly chat with the operations manager. read more

My mom is a huge fan of the NYC Avra locations and she was super excited to try the new Boston location. I'm so glad we tried it out! What a beautiful restaurant! From the greenery to the fish "buffet" where you can select your specific fish to be prepared for your meal to the preparation of the individual tables. My mom and I just got a cocktail each which were fantastic, and we were sent over a humus appetizer which was so tasty and really hit the spot! I must say, however, that the true treat was the staff. Maria was so kind and gave us a tour of the restaurant. The rest of the (probably) 6 staff that we interacted with were also very kind and professional. This restaurant is a real treat to enjoy, and I cannot wait to be back! read more
