We loved Avra from the moment we walked in until the moment we left. We were lucky enough to have Daniel as our server, and he truly elevated the experience. His recommendations were spot on, he was attentive without ever hovering, and he made sure our table had a fantastic evening. Every cocktail we ordered was excellent. For appetizers, we shared the grilled octopus, which was buttery perfection, along with the spicy tuna crispy rice and the sashimi platter. Sashimi isn't the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Greek cuisine, but it was absolutely outstanding. For entrées, the four of us shared the Chilean sea bass and the bigeye tuna, along with sides of grilled vegetables and mushrooms. Everything was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. If I had to choose a favorite, the sea bass was the star of the meal. To finish, we shared the Greek yogurt dessert and the coconut pie. Both were exceptional and provided the perfect ending to a wonderful dinner. From the food and cocktails to the service and atmosphere, Avra exceeded our expectations. What a very beautiful restaurant. Finally came here to try to find out what all the buzz was so I came here with a friend. We ordered the Greek salad, tuna tartare, fried calamari and the Seabass. I'll just get straight to the point. The Greek salad was very basic, which was pretty much a tomato salad with slices of cucumbers with two good feta cheese. That's pretty much it. Nothing special. The tuna tartare although very elegantly displayed seemed a little dry so I added the table olive oil, which was very good indeed all over the dish and it was very palpable. The fried calamari was very basic and I've had better sorry but they should take this off the menu. You can get this sort of thing in any other eating establishment but for high-end it's almost an insult to the restaurant ambience. The Seabass was absolutely delicious. The only criticism about the dish was the vegetables. Basically, the carrots were undercooked, and the potatoes were overcooked and not necessary and the only thing I like about it was the caramelized grilled onions however, it was thrown in the sauce and basically it was a huge ring and it kind of insulted the Seabass dish and the flavor. Honestly, this dish would've been perfect if you just had the sauce and the sea bass without these floating vegetables surrounding it like a stew ...it doesn't match the dish elegance so get rid of it! Now to the desserts. I order the orange cake... fabulous loved it. I can eat 10 of those. And then there was the Avra special dessert. Nothing special about it. The Service was friendly... too much since the server was talking about his digestive issues since he had celiac disease and recommended gluten food that he couldn't eat. By his recommendation, I also enjoyed the mocktail which was hibiscus.... Loved it.. I like the restaurant I would come here again, but honestly, it is far from a five star establishment. They're trying too hard and I understand the popularity and the ambience, but this is more trendy than it is a five star establishment in entirety. The food needs a little more tweaking to my opinion. This place could be the world class establishment. read more

We stopped by Avra for some drinks and a quick bite to eat. The restaurant interior is stunning and the service was quick. We sat at the bar and the bartender was quick to assist us. Food came quickly and we were pleasantly surprised by the bread! Overall great for a quick bite, the menu had an odd mix of things but they do have variety! The city can always use an upscale Greek spot and Avra delivers! The layout and decor is very chic and cool which attracts people to stay for a while. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful with picking out the best items on the menu. We ordered the Greek Salad, Classic Spreads, Branzino, Grilled Vegetables and Roasted Lemon Potatoes. I appreciated de-boning the Branzino for us as well - they guarantee 95% of the bones will be removed. Everything was 10/10 - so fresh and delicious! They also provided complimentary hummus to start and sorbet for dessert. It is on the pricier side but the quality of food matches the entire experience. Will be back again! read more

Had a great experience at Avra! The restaurant just opened and the space is absolutely beautiful. As soon as you walk in, it feels very upscale and luxurious. The interior is gorgeous, well decorated, and surprisingly spacious. I went with a large group and we had a reservation. We were seated right away in a private room in the back, which was perfect for our group. Our server, Maggie, was amazing. She was friendly, attentive, and very patient with us, especially since we had a lot of people. We ordered a few appetizers to share. My favorite was the grilled calamari. It was different from the usual fried calamari you find at most restaurants and was really fresh. I also loved the Greek salad--it was super fresh and simple in the best way. One of the coolest parts is that they have a display of fresh fish that you can choose from. Our table ordered a few different fish dishes and everyone enjoyed them. I got the Wagyu for my entree and it was delicious. This is definitely a higher-end restaurant and the prices reflect that, but the food, service, and atmosphere made it worth it. Such a beautiful dining room! I was a little put off with all the marble stairs to second floor where the restaurant is located, I walked up in high heels...since I didn't see where the elevator was, my bad...and yes it is a place for the well heeled! Put those Christian Louboutins on and be bougie! So easy to do here...along with over eating! From the octopus, the lovely bread service, to the perfectly cooked lamb and lemon potatoes! We paired it with a pretty sparkling rose, all the wines are Greek on the list. We finished with the chocolate cake that was rich, decadent and big enough for a table of 4...as opposed to 2 girlies...but we managed to do some damage, capped our night with ouzo shots and attempted those crazy stairs down! Def recommend! Service was attentive, thoughtful and not intrusive but always seemed available. read more

The doors were locked so we had to call. The hostess opened them and argued that they were not locked. Trust me, they were locked. Our menus were empty with no content. As soon as you walk into the main restaurant, it's very clear they put a lot of thought into the design. It's beautiful, clean and airy. Service was top tier, including the table side fish deboning. We ordered the avra chips, crab cake, grilled octopus, lamb chops, whole grilled Branzino, grilled king prawns and finished with the avra special dessert. The only sliiight complaint I have is that I wish the avra chips (fried zucchini and eggplant) were a touch more crispy and a little less salted but the cool creamy tzatziki balanced the salt. I've been to countless high-end seafood restaurants and have never seen lobsters left alive on ice with their claws bound shut. It is needlessly cruel and far below the standard I'd expect from a restaurant of this caliber. There are more humane ways to achieve the same result. This wasn't impressive--it was disturbing. Ambiance- we walked into a very nice foyer, up the spiral stairs and into a very nicely decorated room with welcoming banquet seating spaced out well with a good vibe. We were ushered through this room to a sad back room with crappy tables close together, bad decor and was oddly shaped. - terrible. Service- our server was very nice but inexperienced, she poured our bottle of wine without asking us to taste it, didn't really know about the fish, but did a solid job. Then she had to go home at 10, before our meal came; and we were introduced to our new server. Luckily at this point I our sad shitty room was completely empty except for us, and then our fish came. The poor server didn't know what to do or how to plate the fish, they pulled through but the look of terror on their faces made me feel bad for them. - they were trying hard, but it was bad. Food: the appetizers were good the ceviche was great. We ordered two whole fish. One was charcoal grilled and very tasty. The other was fried, but instead of frying the whole fish they cut pieces off then fried everything so we got a whole fried fish carcas and a bunch of fish nuggets. Deep fried fish can be very moist and delicious, this was not. - very mediocre There are three better Greek restaurants within a mile; none are inexpensive but they are twice as good at a lower price point. read more

Brilliant service! The waiters and waitresses are very nice and make you feel comfortable. They will give you a tour of all of their fish on display and are open for educational questions! I'm a frequent visitor to New York City and I have eaten at all of the Avra locations in NYC. The kitchen in Boston is equal to the kitchen in New York. Everything was done extremely well. I would say the front of house and specifically the wait staff have a way to go. The service is not as polished. There are gaps. I don't know if it was the bar, but the restaurant was not particularly full and it took a long time for us to get our drinks. Once our meals arrived, it took a long time for a wine to arrive. In fact, the wine almost arrived after the meal was over. The atmosphere is beautiful though not the same scale as say Avra Rockefeller center. Love very those super high ceilings. I think the restaurant has the opportunity to be one of the best in the city, but they definitely have to get this wait staff to take their jobs far more seriously. read more

Grilled octopus, fish stew & white fish ceviche was just ok, the prepared dishes that is/not memorable/had better versions in the North End for example. Great place for a fancy date night. I like that you can dress up or down and still feel comfortable, esp for the price point. I will def be back for the unique cocktails and fresh branzino for sure! read more

The whole experience felt rushed. We barely sat down when we were prompted for a beverage from the bar (no water at this point and had not even glanced at the menu). Food was fine - octopus could have been a bit more grilled, halloumi looked unevenly grilled across the dish. Fish had bones after the server filleted it. Dishes were not really "presented" so no experience with how they were plated. Lastly we reeked like fried food leaving there, my hair and clothes stunk. I thought this was going to be an upscale dining experience, I brought my boyfriend for his birthday. It didn't feel upscale at all. Server never prompted about celebrating a birthday so when I requested candle in dessert via the resy app he didn't know whose birthday it was and was like bringing the dessert to me. My mom is a huge fan of the NYC Avra locations and she was super excited to try the new Boston location. I'm so glad we tried it out! What a beautiful restaurant! From the greenery to the fish "buffet" where you can select your specific fish to be prepared for your meal to the preparation of the individual tables. My mom and I just got a cocktail each which were fantastic, and we were sent over a humus appetizer which was so tasty and really hit the spot! I must say, however, that the true treat was the staff. Maria was so kind and gave us a tour of the restaurant. The rest of the (probably) 6 staff that we interacted with were also very kind and professional. This restaurant is a real treat to enjoy, and I cannot wait to be back! read more
