Going out in Medfield, your expectations are typically set low, especially when you are used to the city like Gster and I. We had a bad experience at another dinner location, and wanted to try somewhere new. The avenue looks, feels, tastes like it belongs in NYC! It has an upscale, classy atmosphere. It is well designed, it feels fresh, trendy, and chic. It has the industrial yet finished look, with funky art, interesting music, and a sophisticated crowd. We sat at the bar, and the bartender made me the most phenomenal drink. I mean, it's like a NYC drink. I got the pizza, and Gster got the fries. Note, this was only due to already eaten somewhere else, and just needing something to fill up on. The menu has unique, interesting and creative dishes that I can't wait to come back and try. I have gone to Avenue a couple times over the last year and I have never had a bad experience! We almost always make a reservation a few days out, but I have called the night of to make a reservation before and they made it work. The food and drinks are delicious, and we find ourselves craving it every now and then. It's a perfect restaurant for both special occasions and for a nice, casual dinner. The staff is one of the best parts about Avenue. I've never had a waitstaff I was unhappy with. They are knowledgeable about the menu and restaurant, but they have friendly conversations with you that make the experience much more authentic. It's a gorgeous restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere. read more

Excellent on all fronts. My wife and I sat right down on a Saturday night at 7pm, but note that there was a Pat's playoff game, so there were open tables. Our waiter was attentive, nice and friendly. The cocktails we ordered - she got a dirty martini and I got the Mai to Mai - were smooth and delicious. We got the burrata for and appetizer that was both tasty and fun to eat. And our entrees - I got the bolognese and she got the shrimp - were also excellent. I woke up this morning looking forward to the leftovers I had waiting for me in the fridge. Phenomenal! Great food, excellent service, well-decorated, clean and well organized! Diverse wine list too! We split an order of calamari which to our surprise was on a bec of fried celery, fennel, and onions! Mains were the Market Cut served with asparagus and a squash and chimichurri sauce as well as chicken with roasted fruits and almonds and a leek sauce. The chicken was a pretty inventive dish that was pulled off perfectly! A passion fruit pavlova shared for dessert was a fantastic ending to a much better meal than we anticipated!!! read more

Flavors in the Argentinian Roasted Chicken would be best described as epic. Hearty and healthy with a richness nicely offset by the grilled fruit. I had high hopes for Avenue but it just didn't live up to the reviews. Like everyone has said, the decor and atmosphere are great but unfortunately the food and service left a lot to be desired. We had a reservation for 2 and still ended up waiting over 25 minutes past our reservation time to be seated. After finally making it to our table, it took an ungodly amount of time to even get greeted never mind drinks and bread. An hour after our arrival our appetizer order was in (which we pushed our waiter to take with the drink order) but we still had menus on the table waiting to put in our entree order. Good god people, we love a leisurely dinner but this process needs to go a bit quicker. The lamb meatballs were a good bite but tiny and a little dry. Not one of those "have to have it" apps. The calamari looked great but it was so incredibly salty we couldn't even finish it. And we love salt... By the way the rolls and salted butter are amazing. My salmon crust was way over salted too as were the mushrooms in the dish. The rest of it was good, but hard to go wrong with corn and bacon. One highlight was the pineapple salsa that came with it... Great flavor by itself and really delicious compliment to the salmon. My husband had the bolognese and it was good but you can get better for much less! By this point we had enough and skipped dessert to get out of there. For such a bad experience, not to mention the upscale prices, we won't be back. We give it 2 stars... One for the bread & butter and one for the decor. read more

We had our first experience at Avenue last night. Four of us bellied up to the bar for some drinks and appetizers. The bartenders Patrick and Nicole were extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and very professional. Patrick made me a Bourbon sour smash that was delicious. Also had a rum drink that was very tasty... Everyone loved their drinks and the Chicken wings were fantastic... The meat fell off the bone! We all shared a sirloin and it was cooked perfectly and hit the spot! The girls shared a chocolate cake for dessert and it was also very nicely done... Very comfortable at the bar and the atmosphere is warm and cozy!!! I can't wait to get back here for dinner... Come on-just ok. I know metro-west is a desert of good food. This place is way over-hyped. The food is AVERAGE and the prices are not. At 5:30 on a summer Sunday the place was out the door. Ate at the bar. One pretentious bartender told us to squeeze in to the booth at the end "because it seats four" Lizzie was the friendly of the two. Ordered wing they were cold. I ordered a Cesar salad with a piece of salmon on top for dinner. The Salomon was raw in the middle and cold to the touch, and there was barely any dressing on salad. Our waiter was nice but not attentive and covered in sweat. Price does not match experience. Happy that there another decent restaurant in the area. Not happy that it's always so slammed. Food was good and I appreciated the quality. It could benefit from some editing. There was so much nonsense on my braised short rib that it looked unrefined and the flavors were kind of lost. It also needed some acid and came off too heavy. Dessert also needed some editing - way too much on the plate. Enormous portions just make the plate look muddy and I feel like I can toss it together at home. Had 8:15 reservations that were made a week in advance. Waited over 30 minutes to get seated and overheard another couple with 8:30 reservations get told that they were the problem because they were only two of them and the tables in the dining room were for four people only. When I started talking to the husband, he told me they'd been coming there since it opened and the last three times they've been in, they've had to wait a ridiculously long time to be seated. That's a real problem with this place because people linger a ridiculous long time. But I also think the manager at the front of the house doesn't know how to properly get things moving. And telling a couple obviously out on a date night that they were the problem because its just two of them probably isn't the best way to get them to come back. Away from noise of bar area, and away from sun drenched window wall. Tuna tartare was amazing, better than most Sushi places by far. I decided to give Avenue another shot because, well, I live within walking distance and I wanted some cocktails with my neighbors. And I was hungry. So, I made a reservation for last Thursday night. And holy SHINTO. I had the best meal ... like... EVER. Whatever the chef is doing to the COD entrée, for the love of God, PLEASE keep it up. From the AMAZING crunchy topping on the cod to the perfectly roasted potatoes to all the best parts of the asparagus shoot (top most part of the stem) to TOASTED ALMONDS (!!!) in a garlic butter lemon creamy sauce TO DIE FOR. I could eat this every night for the rest of my life. THANK YOU, AVENUE. Please never take this off the menu. I have to say I love the food at Avenue but the outdoor dining experience leaves a lot to be desired. Small picnic tables that force guests practically sit on top of each other didn't make me feel great about my first foray back into dining out. Not to mention it's tough to feel good about paying $25 an entree when I'm at a tiny picnic table and my heels are sinking into the grass. I won't even get into the bugs......... Love this place, but the new outdoor area is just so pretty with the lights and everything (alert for the ladies--it is picnic tables on grass, so make outfit decisions with that in mind). We had a delicious dinner outside, enjoying a beautiful sunset and because they were doing a planned turnover, everything came out so quickly! We just tried Avenue for the first time after recently moved to Medfield. We had the three dips for an appetizer and then the swordfish puttanesca and the steak frites for our main course. 3 visits - first two were fine. Loud and far from cheap, but good food and service, so I'd give a 4 for each of those visits. Last week, excited for a great meal with friends, we were pitched an incredible steak special for just under $50. Loving a good steak, 2 of the 4 of us ordered this. What I got was about a $13 steak. It wasn't overcooked, it was a rough, tough, tendon filled piece of cow. I didn't want to be a downer so I wasn't even going to say anything until I got the same vibe from the other person that ordered the same thing. I figured the waitress would want to know, to be careful what she was pitching was not what people were getting. I wasn't looking for anything, but for almost $400 for dinner for 4 (incl apps & beverages), I felt it should be told. What I received was a very defensive attitude, an insincere apology and a cold shoulder for the rest of the night. We ordered dessert and spent the rest of the evening feeling like pariahs. I just think for that kind of $ I should have received something that made my mouth water, not damage my knife. The manager looked at us often, but never approached. It felt more like he was just waiting for us to leave than to even ask what the problem was. Dinner went from very nice to one with a poor after taste very quickly. 1 star for this visit, but in fairness - 4 for the other two - average 3. read more

3 strikes and you're out. First trip there - called to make reservations. The hostess told us that we didn't need any, it was wide open. Drive there a few minutes later and was told that there were no table available, and it would be at least 45 minutes. We promised to wait and they promised to call - 2 hours later we gave up and never received a call. Second trip - we made reservations. Arrived there 15 minutes early and they had lost our reservation. Nothing available. We waited on the porch for 45 minutes and were finally seated at the bar. Third trip - called their curb-side pickup number for take-out. Received a text confirmation. Based on our previous service, we called the manager to make certain. She confirmed. We drove there only to find that they never put the order in. Showed them the text and the call with the manager. No apologies - just rudeness. We left our credit card with the manager and asked her to put a rush order on it. She promised. Waited 15 minutes in the car and went back inside. They forget to place the order and left our credit card unattended on the counter. No apologies - their only excuse was that we shouldn't have called the curbside pick-up number. Not clear what number we should have called if, in fact, curb-side pick-up was our desire. In short - worst service I've ever experienced. Can't comment on the food - we never got that far. read more

I booked this table for a low-key anniversary dinner with the family and we had an amazing meal. The service was spot on and the food was way better than I expected. The star of the night was the braised pork chop. It was a dinner special that evening and it was perfect. Excellent sear, perfectly cooked and balanced expertly with the sides. Great spot with a neighborhood feel. While some of the menu may seem simple at times and complex at times it is all executed with perfectly by a talented team in the kitchen. Everything we had was superb. Calamari was tender, the buratta was creamy and presented beautifully, the chicken was juicy and flavorful. The wine we had was the Arena Rose and it was the best Rose I've ever had. Service was attentive and personable. Great ambiance and great decor. Went to Avenue before rush on Saturday eve to celebrate my Birthday and bartender left a lot to be desired. His service was prompt and efficient but came with a negative attitude. To top it off , we were sitting at bar and having guests join us for dinner and we were looking to save a seat- when another patron came to sit down he rudely told us we could not save the seat. All it took would have been a request to move down from bartender without an attitude that caused us to leave within 5 minutes. You would expect to find this restaurant located in downtown Boston. However, you will find it right in the center of Medfield. Beautiful decor throughout the restaurant. The service was impeccable! Extremely friendly, professional staff from the time you were greeted, until the time you leave. Someone had posted a picture of the turnovers. Naturally, we had to try it. They did not disappoint. Entrees were delicious (salmon & market cut steak). Although we were quite satisfied with our food, we saved room for dessert (eggnog creme brulee & gingerbread cheesecake).
