This place is worth the try! The reviews were very mixed so I was a little wary going in but I was not disappointed. This restaurant is new, barely two years old, and when starting out no restaurant is going to be perfect. But these guys have certainly improved from their early reviews and I wholeheartedly believe they are worth the try. My family and I arrived just after 5 and were the first people inside. We chose the bar because we knew we'd be sticking around for a few drinks after our meal. The bartender, Nicole, was extremely friendly and welcoming. When they didn't have the whiskey my father normally drinks she helped him pick out something similar - a whiskey he now calls one of his favorites. My mother and I split a bottle of wine - it was around $40. A little pricy but buying a bottle of wine at a restaurant normally is so we didn't mind, especially because it was truly a nice wine. We all ordered flatbreads for dinner. I had the pulled pork flatbread and it was so good I didn't leave a crumb behind. The flavors were unique and delicious. Both of my parents loved their flatbreads, too. My father finished his and my mother took the rest of hers home. The restaurant filled up extremely fast. Within an hour almost every table was full. The decor is classy and modern. It appears to be a dressy place but most people were dressed casual, myself included. There were a few children but most of the crowd was about 18+. Pros: -Ambiance is great. It's pretty, upscale, and mostly intimate -The ingredients they used seemed very high quality -The menu has a great selection that feels upscale but also could please some picky eaters -The chipotle BBQ sauce on the flatbread was great. They should add it as an option for their burger Cons: -My BBQ chicken flatbread was inedible. You know how some places use flour or cornmeal on the bottom of pizza crust? They used salt. A lot of salt. (Think saltiest French fries from McDonalds salt, then add more). I know salt is a flavor enhancer and I like salty food, but since it was on the underside of my pizza it was the first thing to hit my tongue. Pizza crust crusted with salt. Disgusting. I could resolve it myself by taking my fingers and scraping it off, but I shouldn't have to do that at this price point. -Service was terrible. We sat for a while before anyone came to see us at our table. The server didn't know what the rotating IPA was "eh it's something hazy... it's too busy tonight for me to learn it." It also took about 5-10 minutes to get a new water glass when the first one had lipstick residue on it. -The swordfish my husband got was okay, but a bit underwhelming. He said it wasn't worth the money. The bread we got at the table was also boring and not worth the calories. Overall, I'd return if invited. I know a lot of people love it here. But, it's an upscale place that is ~16-30 dollars per person and I'd probably opt to go elsewhere if I was picking the place because this seems like a gamble; it could be a waste of money if we have this kind of experience again. read more

I was insulted when I asked for it and was more insulted when the chef made 16 oz when I question why they did not serve any tartar sauce with my fish. Definitely the best spot on 109! Went here for the first time last night and was impressed by the food quality. First impressions when walking in were that the ambiance was not what I expected, I thought it would be a bit more dimly lit but I think this was partly due to the fact we were sat at a table by the bar. The back of the restaurant seemed more cozy. Also music was lacking at first and seemed to come on and off randomly. I do understand other reviews that people were saying the place is loud but you can still comfortably talk. We started with the Pan Roasted PEI mussels and the Short Rib Turnovers, both were delicious, the grilled bread that came with the mussels was a little tough and had a lot of butter or oil grilled on but when dipped in the mussels sauce was pretty good. I had the Miso glazed salmon and my husband had the Skirt steak and instead of frites got mashed potatoes. Both were flavorful and tasty, we cleaned our plates. Overall - great spot for a date night, not sure how kid friendly it is but did see some little ones around. Will definitely go again. read more

Dined here last night with my coworkers. We were so excited to have dinner together and we picked this location because it came highly recommended. I can't wait to visit again! Where do I even begin?! Lovely atmosphere. Not too loud, but had lots of energy. Our waiter was great and shared wonderful recommendations. The sangria and spicy margarita....well made and so delicious. Between the four of us we purchased the: mussels, brussel sprouts, cod, hamburger, steak frites and the Mac and cheese. We all tried a bit from each other's food- so yummy! I don't even like brussel sprouts and I had a 2nd serving! I plan on coming back with my family. They will absolutely love it. read more

This was our first experience dining at the Avenue in Medfield. We sat outdoors on the "patio," which was in fact a grassy yard with picnic tables. Given the number of dollar signs attached to this restaurant, I was expecting something a bit more formal. There were no umbrellas, so fortunately it was not sunny. Our waiter was very personable and attentive. The food was good, but I can't rate it higher than three stars. We had a Roasted Beets and Greens salad that was fine. The Summer Vegetable RIsotto was OK, but a bit bland. I had to ask for salt. My friend had the Scottish Salmon, which she said was a little too salty. The highlight of the meal was actually the dessert, a blondie. I don't think I'd go out of my way to return, although the inside of the restaurant was nice and probably it'll be a better experience, post-pandemic. read more

Seems very overpriced, but maybe you can get away with that in a low-competition, high-dollar suburb, if you market yourself as "upscale," as this place does. Which brings us to the service. Aside from being one, if not the loudest restaurant that I've ever been in, Avenue was a pleasant surprise and our party of six had a great meal there last weekend. We had a reservation and were promptly seated amidst a bustling restaurant. It wasn't too cramped but our immediate reaction was that the restaurant was incredibly loud. In fact, it was so loud that I could barely hear the people seated on my left and right and could barely converse with anyone else at the table. Yes, I am not exaggerating. Our waitress took care of our drinks and their craft beer selection was decent, as was their wine and cocktail programs. The place is lively and hip, and the menu does a great job at providing an extensive selection of dishes. My wife and I split the cabernet-braised short ribs turnovers ($13) which came with some steak sauce and a sprinkle of blue cheese. They were absolutely terrific, flaky and moist. A great start and I then went with their ribeye special which came with a side of blue cheese mashed potatoes ($45). While pricey, the steak was perfectly cooked and I devoured everything on my plate... well actually I didn't, the portion was too big but boy was it tasty. Right on par with something you'd get at a steakhouse. Everyone else had a great meal and our party left very happy and full. Even the desserts were good. Their chocolate coconut creme brulee ($9) was spectacular. All in all this is a fantastic restaurant. It's not cheap but the food is definitely guaranteed to be a hit and the service is attentive and friendly as well. The only real hiccup we had is that there's nothing in the restaurant to dampen the sound and it was a very loud experience for us which ultimately prevented us from having many conversations over our delicious food. read more

This Chef is beyond talented... I went tonight with a friend and our appetizer. The Barada cheese and peach was absolutely wonderful. Then I had a Mediterranean dish with roasted lamb and it was off the charts. Incredible! And we ended the night with an olive oil cake that I was not excited about but when we got it, we nearly licked the plate. When we were done with our meal, we went to complement the chef and he was so gracious and complemented his team. I would recommend this restaurant anyone that knows good food. read more

We had a wonderful experience at Avenue Medfield Sunday night. The menu is full of fresh ingredient options from beef to seafood to chicken and vegetarian. They have various salads and appetizers and both a wine & adult beverage list including craft beers, and and dessert list worth saving room for. The restaurant is set up in a historic building with street and lot parking accessible for handicapped diners. Inside, high top tables surround the open bar while inside are more dining tables and booths. Throughout are modern yet old style features which make this gem worth the drive itself. As for the food, it is wonderful. We started with a fried calamari which was perfectly done. The texture was crisp and not at all chewy and it was served extremely hot (temperature). The Caesar salad was also tasty, but I felt the dressing was a little too much and the "made to order" croutons could be crunchier to balance out the dish better. The white flatbread with chicken and garlicky rapini was served on a wood pizza board. The size was more than enough to provide lunch and/or dinner for the next day. There was a nice crunch on the exposed edges vs. the cheesy middle. Very nice done. The honey roasted carrot risotto was also served steaming hot which is appreciated over the opposite. There was a nice texture with the rosotto eldente. I didn't see the English peas, but the amount of carrots and mushrooms were plentiful. The best part of the meal and worth the drive itself was the butterscotch blonde sundae! Wow! So warm, so decadent, so good! The peanut brittle provided a welcome crunch to the gooey blondie and the melting ice cream. This is a hit! Service was the only area noted that some improvement could be made. Despite arriving punctually for a 6:30PM reservation and seeing an assortment of open tables, there was some visible confusion on where to seat us. Once seated, our waiter was inconsistent as he went from knowledgeable about the menu to forgetting drink refills or even spoons for dessert. I highly recommend Avenue especially for those in the area (there were plenty of regulars dining here) and it is also worth the drive, even just for the blondie! Well done!! read more

We hosted an anniversary party at Avenue in September, and it was wonderful. The planning was so easy - I reached out early in the year, and Mark responded right away with details and a simple agreement. He was available to answer any questions that I had along the way, helped me plan a menu, and even went out of his way to get a special dessert from a bakery for us at a reasonable price. The day of the event, the staff was so warm and professional. They made us feel like the restaurant was our home for the afternoon and did a great job of keeping the drinks and food coming both through the cocktail hour and at the family-style lunch. And the food! We had the flatbreads to start and then a chicken, a salmon, a pasta, and a salad. All of the were delicious. The guests were raving about each dish. Overall, it was a great experience. This restaurant is an absolutely a homerun for Medfield. Tried to get reservations by leaving messages on the answer machine but no one called me back I emailed Jason the manager he responded apologized and was able to get us in for a party of seven on a Friday evening. The meal was spectacular from the steak entrée to the salmon and the Bolognese. The several appetizers we got were equally as spectacular. Service was fast friendly and on par with any fine dining Boston establishment. We would highly recommend. One suggestion is to have the lights a little dimmer. read more

We've had great experiences here, but last night's anniversary dinner was a very mixed bag. Perfectly cooked, if slightly bland, mussels. Excellent cocktails. My spouse had the pork shank special and liked it. Me? Sad. I have a pretty simple dietary issue: extremely low carb. And the reason is medical, not fad diet. I asked for the bolognese on greens instead of pasta, something I quite enjoy, and the chef simply wouldn't do it. Our server asked and came back with, "He says it will be soggy. And he says it has milk in it." Yes! the sauce wilts the greens, which is fine. Milk is a bit carby, but some in a sauce is fine. So I ended up with the BLT salad, which was supposed to have blue cheese on it. And did not. I guess the kitchen gets to decide what I can and cannot eat? I did not complain about the lack of cheese because our excellent server had been through enough. And only one of the serving staff was masked. Will likely not be back, which is sad. read more

Worst dining experience of our lives. My husband and I visited this restaurant with a group of friends for dinner. We ordered appetizers and dinner salads. Nearly all of us finished our salad entrées, but one of our friends was still waiting for his to come out. After waiting for what seemed like FOREVER for his salad, our heavier-set friend joked to a passing runner that it "looks like they forgot the fat guy's salad." The runner stormed off to the back and within seconds the manager appeared at our table. He began loudly yelling at our table for disrespecting their waiter. Clearly having misunderstood, we asked what we did wrong, but wasn't given a chance to explain. Moments later the OWNER was at our table, continuing the loud and humiliating scolding... reprimanding us in front of the entire restaurant for a comment that was WRONGLY assumed to have been referring to his employee. When we finally had the opportunity to set the record straight, they didn't even apologize for the misunderstanding and their unprofessional behavior. If we had in fact been insulting their employee, of course we would have been in the wrong and appreciative of them defending their employee. But even in that instance, the appropriate way of handling it would have been to pull the member of our party aside and discuss the incident, not publicly chastise patrons. It's great to respect your staff, but it doesn't make it ok to disrespect your customers. Especially when you're incorrect. Awful service and for food that was mediocre at best. read more

Excellent take out dinners. (during this pandemic...) Very friendly phone-in system to order. Efficient, friendly system of curbside pick up. The presentation of the food is good. Add a tip to your order; they deserve it. And most importantly, Avenue has not turned their menu into a ToGo type, to accommodate the pandemic. It is the same wonderful elaborate, amazing food you would get if the dining room was still open. In other words they are still firing up their amazing Argentine wood fire grill and cooking all their usual things on it. We love the Wood Grilled Chicken on soaked bread cubes. The Kobe Meatloaf is wonderful. The asparagus appetizer is complicated in a very good way. And the portions of everything we have had so far, are large, enough to feed two (unless two starving younger people.) The warm chocolate cake comes with ganache and salted caramel toppings: highly recommended. So: Let's all try to do our part to keep this excellent restaurant in business. read more

Our go-to for take out once a month. Avenue serves the only "pizza" (flatbread) that my son will eat. I am never disappointed with anything I order. We love the bolognese, the meat loaf, the chicken, the Avenue flatbread... just to name a few. We don't dine in very often because we have two little ones, but when we have it's been a great experience. Friendly, quick service in a very nice atmosphere. Great place for a date or small group of friends. We felt fine bringing my children there right when they open, but I wouldn't describe it as "kid friendly" (nor would I want it to be.... We have more casual places for that). Will keep going back again and again. read more

Another great meal at Avenue! My wife and I ate there on Friday and the food was amazing. It always has a great feel and ambiance, I think that is obvious from the location and pictures, so I will focus this review on the food. For drinks - they make a solid martini and my wife had a kir royale which, she loved. We started with the burrata appetizer, and it was delightful. Delicious cheese, crunchy warm bread and really fresh tomatoes. The tomatoes might be the most impressive as we are starting to enter a period of bad tomatoes in New England. For our main course, I had the pork shank special, which was amazing. Cooked perfectly, really super delicious with carrots and butternut squash. Incredible. My wife has the steak frites, which were also very good, but a little too salty. Still top notch, but just a little salty. Dessert was the cheesecake - also great! Overall, a great meal in a cool (dare I say hip?) restaurant. We are big fans. read more

The quality does not match the price. Husband and I both had the steak fritte. His had to be returned because his medium rare steak was cooked through to gray. Mine was cooked correctly but had tendons and was chewy. It was not a good cut. The chimichurri sauce tasted fishy and not at all like an actual chimichurri. Although we do dine at Tango in Arlington frequently and have high standard for this. Husband's replacement steak did take a while to come but it actually was good. It tasted totally different than mine. It was tender and had good flavor...not $29 worth of flavor. Overall, I'm disappointed. Priced as high as it was, I expected a lot better. I'm not saying that it was outrageously expensive, but pricy enough that I felt the quality should have been better. read more

Breath of fresh air for Medfield! There are several decent places to eat in Medfield, but being a frequent visitor, I have always felt that something was lacking in the culinary department. Welcome Avenue! This slightly contemporary, upscale bistro sets itself apart from the others in town. Medfield needed a "multi purpose" restaurant in town that you can enjoy a great meal (and drinks) with OR without the kids. The menu isn't overbearing, well rounded and also sophisticated. Fresh off the plane flying solo with my 5 year old son...we split the calamari (yes he liked it) which I've heard other reviews claiming it was overcooked but ours was perfect. He had the burger and I enjoyed the Scottish salmon. The cocktails were on point, service friendly and attentive. I have no complaints about this new addition to the restaurant scene in Medfield.
