I never leave reviews but i'm so flabbergasted by the unprofessionalism of this man. I had an alteration for a dress- to extend the bust A LITTLE. Not only is my $300 dress RUINED 6 days before my graduation, he had the nerve to argue with me as if he was right. Listen idk what the other reviews are talking about but trust me when i say DO NOT COME HERE. He was clearly out of his depth here. Find a reputable tailor who doesn't work from an apartment. The signs were there and unfortunately I ignored them. Just look at my before and after pics. I am so distraught. read more

Avellino has been tailoring since he was 11, learning from him uncle in Trinidad. His passion for the work and craftsmanship shows, decades later. I have gone to him to get jeans, travel pants and slacks hemmed -- and had my kids do the same. My wife has gone to him for her her work clothes. He's got my total trust. Super nice guy, super fast, super professional -- couldn't endorse him more highly. read more

Mr. Avellino did a careful and terrific job of shortening sleeves on a men's linen blazer. He is kind and professional. I will definitely return for additional tailoring. I highly recommend him. read more

Absolutely a Brooklyn Gem! I've been a repeated customer for some years now and I have never been disappointed. He just completely blew me away for my most recent wedding suit. 100% praised from everyone who saw it. I highly recommend Avellino Customs Suits.!! Best quality and value in NYC! read more

I waited for my second visit to make this review. I have been to a few tailors and "Avellino:" is by far the very best. This man is definitely an expert at what he does. Great personality extremely reasonable prices, and super quick service. I highly recommend his service !! read more

Avellino immediately knew that he would be able to complete my wedding reception dress within the limited three weeks that I provided him. I wanted at least seven inches + the short train taken off of the dress to create a more function dancing dress and Avellino executed this vision with ease. From the tailoring at the bottom, taking in the shoulder straps, and steaming my gown prior to pick-up, it was a seamless process from start to finish. I couldn't be more happy with the way that the dress turned out and at the highly reasonable cost that I was quoted for the alterations. I would 100% use Avellino again in the future! read more

My new go-to tailor in the neighborhood. Great price, fast, no BS. High recommendations.

A truly professional and skilled tailor. Avellino takes great pride in his work and it shows. I have recommend him to everyone I know. Its nice to know I can reach out to him to renew my wardrobe or get a custom jacket. read more

Did an awesome job tailoring our wedding clothes, and now we go there for all our alteration needs. Highly recommend!! Just call him before you go, and if you let him know about a deadline for having your clothes ready he is very responsive. He's also very reasonably priced. read more

So a couple things about Avellino that you maybe need to know before you get there. 1) Avellino works out of his apt. It's not like a brick and mortar store. he's very professional and a really nice guy, but just don't go looking for like an actual store. 2) he takes cash or Venmo. That's it. Not sure why I thought he took credit card but he does NOT. Now that we got the particulars out of the way, This guy is great! So I bought this suit for a wedding online, from Express. I thought it fit fine (spoiler alert: my wife did not), but apparently it didn't, so I needed to get some adjustments made. He took in the pants, adjusted the length, fixed the jacket (which was my wife's biggest issue) as best as he could too, without having to reconstruct the whole suit, and gave me a rather excellent price all things considered, and I managed to get it in time for the wedding, which of course, if that couldn't happen, woulda made the entire tailor trip useless, but he pulled it off. I'm also a very huge fan of how close this is to where I live. Everything about this place is great for me. Stop by, he does great work! read more

Best of the best tailors in New York. I've been to thousands and no one has been as good as Avellino. Worth a trip to Prospect Park for any significant work! read more

Avellino saved me. I have a shorter torso and longer legs along with being a shorter guy. He was able to make alterations for my suit and dress shirts both in a short amount of time AND for a reasonable price. It is IMPOSSIBLE for me to find suits in department stores. Although I am sure his custom work looks phenomenal, I had gone middle of the road and got a best-fit suit from a Not So Tall shop that I then brought to him for alterations. Being my usual self, but also having not done this since I was younger and living back with family, I had not properly estimated how much time it would take to find a suit, get measured for alterations, allow the alterations to be done, come back for final measurements, etc. He was still able to get all of his work done in my super tight time-frame. I cannot recommend him highly enough. Easily 5-stars. I don't remember the exact price, it was possibly a bit more than other place that I had found back when I was living in Jersey City. But the few extra dollars did not make a difference to be able to hit my desired time-frame and receive his high-quality work. Call him ahead of time as he could be with a client or away from his apartment. read more

I ended up going to Avallino because he had such great yelp reviews and it was a very good choice. Not only did he do a masterful job he finished so quickly I didn't have any cash on me to pay so he said just pay next time and pay whatever I think his job was worth which was very generous. read more

My husband is very particular about his "sartorial splendor." He needed two pairs of suit pants altered and found Avellino through a customer recommendation. His work was flawless, fast and quite reasonable. My husband is more than pleased and is looking forward to using Avellino's tailoring services again. If you need alterations, do your wardrobe a favor and contact this man! read more

Many of us can relate to the struggle of buying a bridesmaid dress - they rarely ever fit you the way you'd like them to but what can you do but deal with it. Well, Avellino turned a too tight in all the wrong places nightmare to a perfect fit that I look forward to wearing on my best friend's wedding day. Avellino was incredibly patient, kind, and timely! Also, Avellino is insanely talented, someone who is truly dedicated to the craft as well as an all-around good human. You won't be disappointed! read more

I am SO glad I discovered Avellino and cannot encourage you enough to seek him out for any of your tailoring needs. He is a perfectionist and does exquisite work and is incredibly accommodating. His "office" is an apartment in a building right across the street from Prospect park and around the corner from the Prospect Park Q/B stop. You need to phone ahead to make sure he'll be in and that he's not too swamped with work that day. I did not phone ahead but was lucky enough to catch him as he was on his way out the door to run an errand and he VERY kindly saw me anyway and took great care of me and the two suits I brought in for alterations. His prices are incredibly reasonable (especially compared to places I've gone in Manhattan) and my suits look as good as new. Thanks, Avellino! I'll be back. read more

I found Avelino on Yelp in search of last minute alterations. I didn't want to chance bringing my clothes to the dry cleaners to have them tailored. He was willing to accommodate me right away which was such a relief. His friendly, witty demeanor had me feeling comfortable from the jump. He did an awesome job on the pantsuit, dresses and a vintage fur that needed a lot of help. I will definitely use him again and refer him to all my friends and acquaintances. He gives you quality work. I've found my tailor! read more

First and foremost, it should be noted that Avellino accepts new clients BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. The number listed on this page goes straight to his cell, so give him a ring there. He works out of a home studio, so don't just show up to the address thinking it's a store front, like I did. Now for the good stuff - Avellino is a lovely, effervescent gentleman and a total pro. The week before I dropped in on him, he had been hired out for multiple days to be the on-set tailor for a Brooks Brothers photo shoot. I pretty much never get anything tailored, as it's typically not an expense I can fit within my budget, but had a dress sitting in my closet that I really wanted to wear for an upcoming event (but was now way too big thanks to some weight loss). The dress had been severely discounted when I bought it, so I figured tailoring it down wouldn't be an outrageous expense this time around. I had originally been intending to go to Fulani around the corner, but the day I was free to bring the dress in they were closed for some sort of emergency, so I checked Yelp and headed to Avellino. He was totally cool about my mistake of dropping in on him out of the blue, and was willing to see what I needed and get it pinned on the spot. The fixes I needed were nothing too difficult - just taking in both of the side seams on the bodice, but it was a nice fabric. He turned the dress around for me in three days, and when I came to pick it up, his work was subtle, elegant, and precise. He even re-adjusted the closures for good measure on the spot when he saw they needed shifting, all while I played with his precious pup Roxy. Not to mention he was flexible with me on price and was willing to meet me at a price point I could afford. read more

Avellino is an outstanding tailor and human being. His first job for me was to take out the most impossibly small (vintage) suit. He somehow managed to make the suit fit me, a job that required superhuman capacities. No other tailor would even have taken on this job, I assure you. All this he did in the best of humor and aura of calm. I have brought many more items to Avellino to tailor, and I cannot recommend him highly enough. Thank you Avellino! read more

I first went to Avellino after finding him here on Yelp and reading all the good reviews he has. After having come to him for almost a year in several occasions, including alterations for my wedding outfit, I can't recommend him enough. He's not only incredibly careful and well done, but he is super nice and gentle, and his rates are super reasonable. I will definitely go to Avellino whenever I need a tailor, and you should too. read more

I just moved to Crown Heights and am so happy to find Avellino! He's accommodating, does an excellent job, and his prices are reasonable. He was nice enough to rush some things that I needed tailored in time for a trip. It's not easy to find a good, affordable tailor, but I can't recommend him enough. read more

I found Avellino on Yelp a couple of years ago. After he did an amazing job on a dress for a wedding, I decided to use him to actually altar my own wedding dress. The dress I used was actually my mother-in-law's from the 70's and he made it look like a new dress! He didn't have much to work with (especially considering I was a bigger size than she was) and yet it turned out fantastic! I couldn't have been more happy with his work. Many of the guests who had attended her wedding couldn't believe how amazing the dress looked now. He also did the same for my husband by altering an old corduroy suit of his dad's also from the 70's! He looked so handsome! I will definitely be using Avellino for any future tailoring needs and since we are close neighbors, we've become friends, which is pretty cool. Very affordable too! read more

Finding a tailor is no easy task, but I could not have been any more fortunate to have met Avellino. The man is a magician. Not only is his work of the finest quality, but he is also personable and responsive. I can't recommend him highly enough. Even if there were a tailor closer to me, I would rather travel across three boroughs to have Avellino work on my clothes. A good tailor is hard to find, but I found him. You'd be wise to choose him. read more

Tailoring is merely the finish of skills with fabric that Avellino possesses. From stitches, darts, hems, to intricate detail, embellishing, bias cutting, draping, and beyond, his precision with alterations and bespoke, for women and men, is artful, his prices accommodating, he makes pieces frame attractively. He transformed a size 10 Milly NY dress to my size 4 still retaining the wrap-over top bodice. He reworked a Rebecca Minkoff ornate bib dress to fall properly across, near-custom, to my collar and shoulders. And even though it irks him to do menial resew of clothing tags, he does so because this fashion lover must have her labels. Great European couturiers list Christian Dior, Balenciaga, Paul Poiret, but Trinidadian-born, Brooklyn-based, Avellino Alfredo, also measures up as a master of threads. He is a fellow lifelong ardent follower of fashion, a bredren friend, and dear to my wardrobe. read more

Avellino was great, hemming curtains beautifully for me on extremely short notice! He even fixed the pocket lining of my fiance's jacket, which was ripped, in about two minutes when my fiance went to pick up the curtains. Highly recommend his services! read more

Firstly Avellino's super kind and easy to talk to. Secondly, he works fast and does an amazing job for a good price. I highly recommend him and will definitely be returning in the future. read more

Avellino is fantastic. After my favorite tailor in South Brooklyn retired I was looking for someone new. A good tailor can make a cheap suit look good and a good suit look excellent. As a lawyer, I have to know these things. He took a couple of suits that I had brought and tailored them to the nines, to the point where the off the rack suits looked made to measure. read more

Nothing but good words to say about Avellino. I've been going to him for the past few months and everything I get back looks fantastic. He has a great understanding of fashion and fit. I'm never going anywhere else. read more

I went to Avellino for alterations on my wedding dress and on my husband's suit. I had ordered the dress online and when I brought it home I was ready to sell it on Ebay and start the search all over again. Then I went to Avellino. Not only is Avellino blessed with the superpower-like talent of tailoring, but he is also a kind, interesting and down-to-earth man. One the day of my wedding, it felt so good to be in a dress that fit so perfectly. My husband's suit was perfect as well. All thanks to Avellino. Look no further. Avellino IS the best there is. read more

Great job, did exactly what I asked, and a lovely person.

I went to Avellino for two dresses I wanted let out. The dresses were to die for but were unfortunately too small in the breast and arm area. Not only was he able to tailor the dress to fit properly and made just for me, he was also very fair on pricing. He insisted that I give him a number on how much I was willing to pay for good work, but I declined to bid because I just wasn't sure how much these things usually cost. I told him I wanted to be fair so he should just give me a price and I would tell him if I could afford it or not. For the work he did he gave me more than an excellent price, I confirmed with a few friends later. He works with his clients in reference to price range and turn around time in working on your item. I came in 2 weeks before I absolutely needed the dress by. He had the 2 dresses ready in about two days. When I asked him if he could also let out the waist as well on one of the dresses, he didn't mind giving me the dress the next day. He is very friendly and professional. Please be aware that this is not a store front type of business. He works at an apartment based studio, therefore you must call for an appointment. Just to feel safe I texted a friend his address before entering the studio , but you can always go with a friend as well. read more

I want to appreciate Avellino for helping create a great tailored look for my new wedding party suit. He was very accommodating, meeting me on a weekend and turning the job around very quickly. And it's the best fitting suit I've ever had, despite not requiring too many alterations from the rack. Best of all, he's right in my neighborhood - a great resource to have! If I need a job done well, quickly, and professionally, I'll definitely be back. It's so comforting to find a community tailor committed to doing nice work. A much better option than having your stuff tailored at a random dry cleaner. Use Avellino, he's a pro! read more

Highly skilled tailor with an eye for style and what looks good. Got over 7 suits completely tailored by him (hemming, waist bought in, sleeve shortened, and pants tapered). Also altered the waist and taper of several chinos and jeans. He's the only tailor I go to after experimenting with several others. Great service, and overall great person! read more
