Not only is my $300 dress RUINED 6 days before my graduation, he had the nerve to argue with me as if he was right. Listen idk what the other reviews are talking about but trust me when i say DO NOT COME HERE. He was clearly out of his depth here. Find a reputable tailor who doesn't work from an apartment. Avellino immediately knew that he would be able to complete my wedding reception dress within the limited three weeks that I provided him. I wanted at least seven inches + the short train taken off of the dress to create a more function dancing dress and Avellino executed this vision with ease. From the tailoring at the bottom, taking in the shoulder straps, and steaming my gown prior to pick-up, it was a seamless process from start to finish. So a couple things about Avellino that you maybe need to know before you get there. 1) Avellino works out of his apt. It's not like a brick and mortar store. he's very professional and a really nice guy, but just don't go looking for like an actual store. 2) he takes cash or Venmo. That's it. Not sure why I thought he took credit card but he does NOT. Now that we got the particulars out of the way, This guy is great! So I bought this suit for a wedding online, from Express. I thought it fit fine (spoiler alert: my wife did not), but apparently it didn't, so I needed to get some adjustments made. He took in the pants, adjusted the length, fixed the jacket (which was my wife's biggest issue) as best as he could too, without having to reconstruct the whole suit, and gave me a rather excellent price all things considered, and I managed to get it in time for the wedding, which of course, if that couldn't happen, woulda made the entire tailor trip useless, but he pulled it off. I'm also a very huge fan of how close this is to where I live. Everything about this place is great for me. Stop by, he does great work! read more

Avellino saved me. I have a shorter torso and longer legs along with being a shorter guy. He was able to make alterations for my suit and dress shirts both in a short amount of time AND for a reasonable price. It is IMPOSSIBLE for me to find suits in department stores. Although I am sure his custom work looks phenomenal, I had gone middle of the road and got a best-fit suit from a Not So Tall shop that I then brought to him for alterations. Being my usual self, but also having not done this since I was younger and living back with family, I had not properly estimated how much time it would take to find a suit, get measured for alterations, allow the alterations to be done, come back for final measurements, etc. He was still able to get all of his work done in my super tight time-frame. I cannot recommend him highly enough. Easily 5-stars. I don't remember the exact price, it was possibly a bit more than other place that I had found back when I was living in Jersey City. But the few extra dollars did not make a difference to be able to hit my desired time-frame and receive his high-quality work. I am SO glad I discovered Avellino and cannot encourage you enough to seek him out for any of your tailoring needs. He is a perfectionist and does exquisite work and is incredibly accommodating. His "office" is an apartment in a building right across the street from Prospect park and around the corner from the Prospect Park Q/B stop. You need to phone ahead to make sure he'll be in and that he's not too swamped with work that day. I did not phone ahead but was lucky enough to catch him as he was on his way out the door to run an errand and he VERY kindly saw me anyway and took great care of me and the two suits I brought in for alterations. I found Avelino on Yelp in search of last minute alterations. I didn't want to chance bringing my clothes to the dry cleaners to have them tailored. He was willing to accommodate me right away which was such a relief. His friendly, witty demeanor had me feeling comfortable from the jump. First and foremost, it should be noted that Avellino accepts new clients BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. The number listed on this page goes straight to his cell, so give him a ring there. He works out of a home studio, so don't just show up to the address thinking it's a store front, like I did. Now for the good stuff - Avellino is a lovely, effervescent gentleman and a total pro. The week before I dropped in on him, he had been hired out for multiple days to be the on-set tailor for a Brooks Brothers photo shoot. I pretty much never get anything tailored, as it's typically not an expense I can fit within my budget, but had a dress sitting in my closet that I really wanted to wear for an upcoming event (but was now way too big thanks to some weight loss). The dress had been severely discounted when I bought it, so I figured tailoring it down wouldn't be an outrageous expense this time around. I had originally been intending to go to Fulani around the corner, but the day I was free to bring the dress in they were closed for some sort of emergency, so I checked Yelp and headed to Avellino. He was totally cool about my mistake of dropping in on him out of the blue, and was willing to see what I needed and get it pinned on the spot. The fixes I needed were nothing too difficult - just taking in both of the side seams on the bodice, but it was a nice fabric. He turned the dress around for me in three days, and when I came to pick it up, his work was subtle, elegant, and precise. He even re-adjusted the closures for good measure on the spot when he saw they needed shifting, all while I played with his precious pup Roxy. I found Avellino on Yelp a couple of years ago. After he did an amazing job on a dress for a wedding, I decided to use him to actually altar my own wedding dress. The dress I used was actually my mother-in-law's from the 70's and he made it look like a new dress! He didn't have much to work with (especially considering I was a bigger size than she was) and yet it turned out fantastic! I couldn't have been more happy with his work. Many of the guests who had attended her wedding couldn't believe how amazing the dress looked now. He also did the same for my husband by altering an old corduroy suit of his dad's also from the 70's! He looked so handsome! I went to Avellino for two dresses I wanted let out. The dresses were to die for but were unfortunately too small in the breast and arm area. Not only was he able to tailor the dress to fit properly and made just for me, he was also very fair on pricing. He insisted that I give him a number on how much I was willing to pay for good work, but I declined to bid because I just wasn't sure how much these things usually cost. I told him I wanted to be fair so he should just give me a price and I would tell him if I could afford it or not. For the work he did he gave me more than an excellent price, I confirmed with a few friends later. He works with his clients in reference to price range and turn around time in working on your item. I came in 2 weeks before I absolutely needed the dress by. He had the 2 dresses ready in about two days. When I asked him if he could also let out the waist as well on one of the dresses, he didn't mind giving me the dress the next day. He is very friendly and professional. Please be aware that this is not a store front type of business. He works at an apartment based studio, therefore you must call for an appointment.
