Three days before my wedding, after taking my dress to the dry cleaners to have it steamed and cleaned, I discovered that it suddenly didn't fit me anymore. I completely panicked. We immediately booked another appointment with Gala for the very next day, and she was so understanding and reassuring. She told me it was going to be okay and that she could fix it--and she did. I picked up my dress again the day before my wedding, and it fit PERFECTLY, honestly better than before. I genuinely cannot express how grateful I am to her. Gala is my miracle angel because without her, I honestly would have been completely screwed for my wedding. She is talented, understanding, and someone you can truly trust with one of the most important dresses you'll ever wear. If you need a tailor, especially for your wedding dress, Gala is the one to go to. Thank you, Gala, for saving my wedding dress!

DO NOT USE THIS DRY CLEANER IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR BELONGINGS! I contacted them in advance after…read morereading about their experience with high value vintage items, and contacted their WhatsApp. I sent them a list of the specific items which were high value vintage pieces, and when I handed my items to them for delivery, I had even marked each item with post-it notes. The Happy Cleaners team confirmed they received all these communications. Lo and behold, when I got my items back, they had PIERCED THE FABRIC of several of my items with pins to hold them on the cheap hangers. They did not do this on the seam or anything, just straight through the fabric. The gravity left small holes in my items, a $4,000 vintage silk dress and an $800 vintage wool skirt. They claimed they put pins through my items because the items "wouldn't stay on the hanger otherwise." This is ridiculous because the skirt had specific loops sewn into it for hanging, and the dress could have been easily folded in half and hung over the center of the hanger. They said they could take the items back and "iron out the holes," which is ridiculous because silk and wool CANNOT be ironed. I told them no, I did not trust them with my items, and I wanted to speak to the manager for compensation. I was told I would be called back - FOUR SEPARATE TIMES. I kept calling and asking why they had not called me back yet, and the employee kept telling me the manager was not in the office and that he would call me back soon. He never did and it has been 9 days. NEVER EVER TAKE YOUR VALUABLE ITEMS HERE! I am filing a chargeback with my credit card company and considering small claims court.

So, I ignored some of the other negative reviews and started going to him because he was close, and…read morehe did dozens of alterations for me over years. And he is a con artist. Is he a decent tailor? Yes. 90% of the time the work comes back good; sometimes it doesn't but he fixes it if you notice. But no, you shouldn't go to him. There is a reason he doesn't list prices anywhere. He charges as much as he thinks he can get away with charging you. And he talks a really, really big game about how hard the alterations are, and how no one else does them right, and how he can't make any money on his prices. At first he seemed a little pricey, but the work was good, and again, he was nearby, and he was so friendly. After a while I really thought we were becoming real friends, but it was just buttering me up. And like a sucker, I fell for it. I fell for it so hard that I didn't write this review for a long time because I am so embarrassed by how much money this man took me for. The more I went to him, the larger the "discounts" he claimed to be giving me, but I had this feeling that nevertheless the prices kept going up... and up, and up. Eventually he quoted me prices for two overcoat alterations that were too outrageous for me to swallow. I called seven of the most well-reputed menswear tailors in Manhattan, and all of them quoted me half the cost or less. And I know enough about tailoring to ask for exactly the work i need done, and Hussey had explained exactly what he was going to do, and I explained it exactly to the other tailors. I went back to Hussey to get my coats, and he knew exactly why, and barely would speak to me as he told me not to come back. I now take my work to Wazin Custom Tailors in midtown. They take half as long to do your measurements, they charge has as much, their work is flawless, and they have it done fast, on the day they said they would. Maybe you'll have a different experience, maybe he won't see you as a mark, but he may will smile to your face, butter you up, and rip you off, like he did to me. At least go one block further up Washington to the guy who has his prices posted on the wall. Other things to know: he will take as long to do your work as you let him. It won't be done when he says. It'll only be done when you call or come by multiple times to tell him you need it. Also, if you go there in the evening, you will see his shop is completely infested with clothes moths. I'm still trying to get them out of my warddrobe.

Her office space is in Gowanus so pretty easy to get to and if you drive, there are usually a couple parking spots in front. She has a great mirror to showcase your dress and showed me both style options for a bustle. I had her add an American bustle and take in the straps a bit and because my wedding was a month away, we scheduled a follow up appointment two weeks out. She color coded the bustle to make it super easy and we had one more try on. With the deposit, it was about $300 total which is on par with what I had done. She tailors other women's clothes as well so I have a feeling I'll be coming back for all my tailoring needs. She does not tailor menswear.
