So, I ignored some of the other negative reviews and started going to him because he was close, and he did dozens of alterations for me over years. And he is a con artist. Is he a decent tailor? Yes. 90% of the time the work comes back good; sometimes it doesn't but he fixes it if you notice. But no, you shouldn't go to him. There is a reason he doesn't list prices anywhere. He charges as much as he thinks he can get away with charging you. And he talks a really, really big game about how hard the alterations are, and how no one else does them right, and how he can't make any money on his prices. At first he seemed a little pricey, but the work was good, and again, he was nearby, and he was so friendly. After a while I really thought we were becoming real friends, but it was just buttering me up. And like a sucker, I fell for it. I fell for it so hard that I didn't write this review for a long time because I am so embarrassed by how much money this man took me for. The more I went to him, the larger the "discounts" he claimed to be giving me, but I had this feeling that nevertheless the prices kept going up... and up, and up. Eventually he quoted me prices for two overcoat alterations that were too outrageous for me to swallow. I called seven of the most well-reputed menswear tailors in Manhattan, and all of them quoted me half the cost or less. And I know enough about tailoring to ask for exactly the work i need done, and Hussey had explained exactly what he was going to do, and I explained it exactly to the other tailors. I went back to Hussey to get my coats, and he knew exactly why, and barely would speak to me as he told me not to come back. I now take my work to Wazin Custom Tailors in midtown. They take half as long to do your measurements, they charge has as much, their work is flawless, and they have it done fast, on the day they said they would. Maybe you'll have a different experience, maybe he won't see you as a mark, but he may will smile to your face, butter you up, and rip you off, like he did to me. At least go one block further up Washington to the guy who has his prices posted on the wall. Other things to know: he will take as long to do your work as you let him. It won't be done when he says. It'll only be done when you call or come by multiple times to tell him you need it. Also, if you go there in the evening, you will see his shop is completely infested with clothes moths. I'm still trying to get them out of my warddrobe. read more

Very unpleasant experience working with the tailor. Brought 3 pairs of pants and a dress. All simple hemming. He charged 70 bucks for hemming the pants and, 90 for the dress I don't know what I was smoking to agree with the price. Asked for several fittings and his hours aren't clear and he isn't very communicative. All in all I am not happy with the result in two of the items he worked on and I was charged way too high. read more

I rarely take things to a tailor. I figure I'll just make it work...LOL! Well this time I couldn't just make it work. I purchased a yellow sequins dress for my birthday and it was a little too long. I was convinced it would cost a crazy amount b/c of the sequins and under skirt. However, the price was reasonable and he was done before the time he stated. I sparkled on my birthday! I will definitely no longer just make it work and go get my things tailored. read more

Go Hussey - Sewing & Alterations Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Shop owner did not LIST hours on purpose. I came on Sunday all the way from deep Brooklyn just to see the shop closed. Called the phone and no one picked up. Wasting customer's time. read more

Not all superheros wear capes, some have tailor shears and a sewing machine. Hands down a consummate professional. G.O. transformed an ill fitting suit into a quality garment I can wear with pride. He was very communicative and accommodating, while providing excellant service in a tight time crunch. read more

Mr Hussy (pronounced Hew-see), did a terrific job shortening our curtains. He takes pride in his truly excellent work. His work is precise, and he goes the extra mile on details that a lay person might not notice. He was great communicating, got the work done quickly, and charged a fair price. He's also a really nice guy. Highly recommend! read more

I had such a great experience getting my suit tailored here for a wedding! The suit was just a basic one from Zara and the fit was all wrong...so many adjustments were necessary and he really did a great job making the suit fit me perfectly. It was pricey (but reasonable for a whole suit) and he explained in extreme detail what he was charging me for and why. Would definitely recommend this place! I wish I had a "before" photo to show the amazing changes he made! When he was finished with it the suit looked incredible and 100% made to fit my body! read more

Go Hussey - Gold flower suit on the right! - Sewing & Alterations Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

GoHussey is an amazing tailor that I highly recommend. He repaired my grandfather's baptismal slip and silk layer that is over 100 years old. The creativity in finding fabric and making the cloth tears disappear was beyond expertise, it was so emotional. Thank you, Hussey! read more

Hussey is the best! I would trust him with any clothing item. He's also just a great guy - which makes the experience even better.

Dude's a con artist, so I can't urge you enough to take your clothes elsewhere. If I didn't press him on the work done, I wouldn't have discovered the completely severed seams in both sleeves of the jacket I brought. Slick talker who's just trying to get paid. Thanks for the STELLAR work dude, I especially like how my sleeve completely tore with my first wear (pictured). read more

This guy. Is amazing. I love this kind of business- the people driven, old school business. I walked in without an appointment needing a dress tailored in two days. Although what I needed -I thought- was simple, he explained everything he would do to make the dress look like he had never touched it. Super efficient, funny and you can tell. that. he. cares. Tried calling other places before going to him and they were all days away and couldn't tell me if the work would be done when I needed it.. but this guy, did a better job than I could have ever hoped for! He made a dress that I thrifted for $10 make me feel like a million bucks!!!! read more

I bought a dress at a thrift shop because I loved the fabric, but it was about two sizes too big. G.O. tailored the dress exquisitely. He took such care and was so detail-oriented. His work is incredibly high-quality, and he holds himself to high standards. I cannot recommend him highly enough! read more

Fantastic tailor! He modified a sequined jumpsuit and long gown (plus a custom matching headband) for me for my New Year's Eve wedding and they both looked absolutely stunning. Several people mentioned to me that the jumpsuit specifically looked custom and fit perfectly. I'll be going back for my everyday tailoring needs! read more

Not only a super nice guy, but a real talent. I got a zillion compliments on my wedding tux, which he had completely deconstructed and rebuilt to fit me perfectly. I'll echo what others have said: he really cares. read more

AMAZING WORK!! ... I came to him 3 weeks before the wedding and he made it happen. He was very efficient and explained everything in detail. He made me come in for 2 fittings to be sure everything was perfect. I would recommend his services to anyone. Definitely worth the money. read more

Hussey really knows what he's doing. He's an artist. I would trust him with any garment.

I found Hussey on yelp and I was desperate to find someone who would fix an intricate ball gown for me. The finished job is BEAUTIFUL, so professionally done, he keeps his deadlines and is very accommodating, always picks up his phone. Yes he is not "cheap" but he is not exorbitant, either way I don't want a cheap job done. You get what you pay for! read more

hands down one of the best customer service experiences I've ever had. I walked in with a silk dress that needed to be hemmed for a wedding on Memorial Day and there was a week to go. I just bought the dress and realized that I needed a tailor to do a quick job and so I went to GOHussey based on the reviews. GO told me that he would hem the dress for the next afternoon because he was leaving on vacation the next day. And he did - flawlessly and beautifully - and even got it done that evening because I told him that I had work the next day. This is a guy that has beautiful craft and makes you smile - don't go looking very far for a tailor!! read more

I went in to get my suit tailored for my wedding. GO Hussey took great care of me. He was was fast and extremely knowledgeable. He explained everything he was doing and why he was doing it. I happened upon this place one day and decided to give him a try. This was 3 years ago and he has become my go-to tailor. He can do anything, recut jeans, alter blazers, let out pants, etc. Hussei is probably the most knowledgable person I've ever met on the construction of clothes. He is slightly more expensive than average but with him you get what you pay for. He has excellent attention to detail. read more

Hussey is great. Really nice guy. Very detail-oriented. I've had two dresses altered here. One was a lined shift dress that needed the hem raised. That went well. The other dress was a casual jersey dress with an oddly low neck line that I got on sale. Hussey brought up the shoulders and hence the neck line. He did a great job with so odd seams. It did take several return visits to get it right and I spent more than I would have liked but the work was quite good. Side note: Hussey keeps odd hours and is sometimes in the shop really late. That can be a plus when you're trying to squeeze in a time to get to the tailor. read more

This guy has been away almost all the time and never kept the finish date. I gave him for 2 weeks just to alter the lengths of dresses. Noting complicated. I had to visit three times on the dates and time he designated. Price was $45 for each dress. read more

Very expensive. Work is good but it's very difficult to get a hold of him. Almost one year waiting on a jacket that wasn't a rush. Don't pay in advance. He isn't my even responding to texts.. read more

I had some trousers tailored by Hussey. The work was well done and on par with other quality tailors I have used in NYC. Hussey is obviously experienced and works to achieve good results. The reason for my 3 stars is price and that you are being hustled. The cost is extraordinarily high and the explanation for the cost is just ridiculous. He talks in circles about the work he'll have to do making the ordinary seem complicated, repeating every detail of the work over and over and over to the point of exhaustion, saying how it would be less expensive but because of this measurement and that measurement it will be more. I'll be taking my business back to The Tailoring Room in the East Village. read more

Let me begin by saying that I always want to find the best of the best. Best shoe maker, best tailor, best anything. Being the petite woman that I am, I need to have a personal relationship with my tailor. Someone that understands me, my body, and my style. I was very sad and nervous to leave my tailor back in NJ when I moved to Brooklyn. Now that I have found Hussey, I feel totally at peace. He isn't just a tailor, he is an artist. He designs and makes his own clothes. I have brought in anything from everyday wear to extremely pricey and delicate pieces. He makes me look like a goddess no matter what the article of clothing. You need someone you can trust with your clothing? Don't look any farther than Hussey. read more

Hussey did an incredible job altering my bridesmaid dress. He's a perfectionist with impeccable attention to detail. The dress had some intricate pleating that he was still able to alter. He's pricey but you get what you pay for. It wasn't worth risking in someone else's hands. read more

Hussey was fantastic. Friendly, thorough, fast, reliable. I brought him a VERY last minute VERY complicated dress, and he was able to make significant alterations in just two days, in time for me to wear the dress to a wedding (I was a bridesmaid, and had really left the alterations to the last minute). Like others have said, he was a tiny bit more expensive than I would have liked, but I will go back to him in a second the next time I need alterations. He did an amazing job. It fit perfectly and looked like it was initially constructed that way. I don't often write yelp reviews, but Hussey did such an amazing job that I had to review him here. I highly highly highly recommend him! read more

This place is a hole in the wall and not he cleanest or most updated, however, work and service is quality and fairly priced.

I went back because I'd bought a dress at a stoop sale that just wasn't going to work; I was hoping Hussey could turn it into a skirt for me. He is a little more expensive but it's worth every penny! read more

They do beautiful work and repairs look like there was never a problem.
