I really hate being real because the owner is such a chill and personable guy. I can tell he loves what he does and generally wants to make you happy. BUT i cant say the same for the spanish guy who works along side him nor the shop owner's son. I've had two jackets and pants tailored at this place and they all fit well but was super disappointed when i full inspected the work. How do you have the audacity to make people pay upfront for work that hasnt even been done yet!? There was threading all over my jackets and pants, that wasnt bothered to be cleaned off? Lovely people and excellent work. My regular dry cleaner had sent out for tailoring a jacket that needed to be taken in, and it was not done well. The very nice young woman at Fulani advised that I have the dry cleaner let it back out, which they did, and then I brought it back for alteration at Fulani. They did a great job with it. I wanted to like this place I really, really did. Recommended on Yelp and on Facebook and I am glad other people had great experiences, I don't write reviews but I have to share this. I wanted a hem and taper for my pants. First, the taper somehow here only means from your knees down, huh?? I never heard of that any other dry cleaner/tailor place it was the whole leg, I had to nudge to get them to do the thigh. Second, in full disclosure, I do take the bulk of the responsibility for this, when doing the hem what they were recommending was too short but trusting the "expert" tailor I thought hey it should be good. My wife seeing the finished pants from the go knew it was too short, and I thought it was okay because I trusted their measurement but wearing the full suit it was definitely too short. With my built being top heavy I can't have pants that sit right on top of the shoe, it looks worse on my build. The woman of the store, while initially pleasant was not that way throughout. If a customer is trying to voice their concerns please allow me to do such and not cut me off when talking especially I am not yelling or being rude, you can make mistakes I don't care how many stars on Yelp you have, when you don't feel heard or understood as a customer it's a huge turn off. This is the first time I had to come to a tailor more than 2(it was 4) times! Each time I felt as I was being shaken down for money, calm down I know I have the pay for the services requested, how about do the work I am requesting? Other places I never get that hassle, maybe a small initial deposit after that they focus on getting what I need to be done and I will pay when the work is FULLY completed and I am satisfied. Also, clearly no communication between the family there, when I dropped off the same pants again, on a Friday with their son, was told I could come and get it the next day but because of my schedule couldn't so said I can come on Tuesday. Only to get a call from the mother Monday evening saying that will not be possible and will have to pick it up Saturday because he didn't have her calendar...huh?? Only after having another disappointing and disparaging phone call with her to get it the Thursday evening. This whole ordeal took almost 3 weeks, never had or heard such an experience that took 3 weeks to finish. Unbelievable. I wanted to support a black-owned business and this was such a turn-off. I regret so much not going to my original spot and went here because of the reviews and it was closer. Never again, I should have gone to my original spot even though I have to travel out of my way to go, even the place around the corner from me I have had a better experience and better quality. If a customer has issues and real or perceived you can at least make believe you care but I didn't feel any such way especially for a local business. read more

My favorite tailor. They really know what they are doing. They are familiar with a host of techniques. I frequently bring pants and shirts and suits there to be altered. Turn around is quick and the work is clean. No loose threads or unfinished ends. They also specialize is creating custom suits and shirts. Suits start at $950 steep but A+ work. read more

1 star - would not go back or recommend. Both customer service and services performed were poor. Customer service: They claimed their credit card machine was down for a purchase of over $120. Pretty annoying, since they didn't appear to fix it between my visits. I also had called ahead that day and I should have been warned it was "cash only." The whole thing seemed shady. Brought in a suit and a pair of pants. Pants did a good job. They were quite non-chalant about accuracy of measurements for the jacket. As a result, the suit was overly tailored, it is likely ruined and now I need to take it elsewhere to have it fixed, shoulders seemed puffy, waist too tight. I would have gone back except that the credit card debacle made the whole experience too much trouble to deal with again. There has to be better out there. read more

Happy for all the other customers who had a great experience. Mine started off great- he seemed personable and knowledgeable. I am half Fulani but not culturally Fulani and we made a human connection. Good going. I took my husband's Hugo boss suit jacket to repair a tear in the elbows. I dropped off leather elbow patches (which he suggested) and suit jacket and gave him the requisite 50% deposit. When time to pick up, my husband presented me the receipt and said I should ask about the payment because he thought a mistake had been made but he couldn't be sure- he wanted me to ask since Tailor and I were cool. I went with the receipt, said I wasn't sure if I was in the right but is the total wrong-Tailor got pissed and offended and asked if I thought he needed my little dollars to live. 0 to 60 pissed off, asked me to leave. Suit wasn't ready he said, come back later he said. When I came back he tersely handed me a beautiful Boss jacket, elbows repaired, the leather patches placed at THE WRIST. I pointed this out, he said you wanted to repair the tear and we did. I said yes but nothing was wrong with the wrist- have you ever seen someone with a jacket with patches at the wrist? He looked at me plain faced and said, I repaired the tear. Suit was a thousand dollar expense, now ruined and I am sure Tailor felt great about ripping us off. It can not be fixed. I tried so, so hard to love this place. I really did. I just moved around the corner, and hearing of a top-rated tailor a few blocks from me was basically the best news I've gotten in a long time. Sadly, the expert tailoring is compromised by a severe lack in reliability. First, the good: AB is a great tailor and a very nice guy. His craftsmanship is meticulous, and he also seems to have a very keen sense of style. I brought in two (quite pricey) suits, and without saying anything, he knew that I wanted to make them trimmer and had a great eye for what was in style. 5 stars on this front. Now onto the bad: It took EIGHT trips to the store to have one suit ready. I'm used to two: drop off, pick up. Not eight. This was due to a combination of him not meeting his "ready by" date, then him forgetting to finish the pants, and then he left the jacket at home where he brought it to finish some work, forgetting to adjust the length of one jacket sleeve, etc. etc. etc. EIGHT trips. His shop's location is a long trip from my office in Manhattan, so I am only able to come in on Saturdays. Thus, it was nearly 3 months before I had my suit "done." On top of that, there are other small annoyances which really add up: Cash only for tailoring and he wants at least 50% up front. He accepts credit cards for custom suit orders but not for tailoring, which is particularly irritating when I'm dropping $160 on tailoring. On top of that, his turn-around time is extremely slow. 2.5 weeks for a suit (and as I mentioned, followed by 7 follow-up visits). Prices are on-par with Manhattan but steep for Brooklyn. Ugh, I feel kinda bad giving this 2 stars because he is a nice guys and it seemed others have had much better luck than I did, but after this odyssey I will not be returning. read more

I bought myself a gorgeous vintage wool coat a couple years back in this quaint Parisian shop, which means my purchase meant more to me than its inherent appearance, and I needed to find the best tailor for repairs. At the end of last winter the lining began to show its age through deterioration by tearing and eventually causing greater issues down the road with the sleeves. Since I couldn't overlook this and wanted to preserve my coat for forever, I found Fulani through yelp reviews! I could not have been more pleased with the service. The owner is absolutely sweet and caring, but she's also very good at what she does. I felt comfortable leaving my coat in her hands and was quite impressed with her turnaround and high level of expertise. The prices are fairly reasonable, but remind yourself that you're paying for quality and care, so you can't expect low, low prices. My coat was worth the cost and I couldn't be more pleased with Fulani. Thank you! read more

This is my first Yelp review, and I'm writing it because I promised the owner of Fulani I would. I went in there a few weeks ago with a bad suit. A buddy of mine is getting married, and I'm in the wedding party; he ordered me this suit so I would match the rest of the groomsmen. But he lives in China, and that's where the suit was made, so we had to go by measurements I had taken here in New York by a tailor and emailed to him. Long story short, that was a BAD idea (although apparently every other groomsman's suit fits fine... I think it's racism, since I'm the only white dude in the wedding party... :P). From the way the suit fit I think that tailor pictured me as a freakish ogre. I'm 6'1" and slim. The jacket was enormous: 2" too long, waist and sleeves way too wide around. The pants were too short and flared weirdly at the bottoms. The vest was too long, wide, and the shoulder holes were cut all wrong. Fulani's guy (sorry I can't remember your name, brother!) said, "I'm gonna be honest with you. It's not all that." No shit. I had the original measurements on me, taken in Manhattan by a very nice, but apparently blind, tailor. When the guy at Fulani (let's call him Batman, shall we?) remeasured me it was clear that erroneous measurements were only half the problem. The suit was just badly tailored. We had two options: 1. Get my friend the groom to make me a new suit. It was that bad! I rejected this because the wedding was only 3 weeks away, and because I didn't want to hassle him. 2. Rebuild it. Make it stronger. Faster. Batman told me he's charge me $110 for everything. This may seem high, but as he said, "I'm not gonna alter this, I have to remake it." I left a $40 deposit. Cut to a week or so later. The suit is perfect. It's suave. It's sexy. It's the best suit I've ever owned. He knew exactly how to make it look good. That nice slim look. It's quite simple. If you want your clothing tailored well, you go to your neighborhood cleaners. But if you want your clothing tailored proper, you go to Fulani. This man knows his stuff. He doesn't just tailor; he tailors to last. He gives suggestions, recommendations, and alternatives, and if your not happy with the tailoring, he is willing to make corrections free of charge. I guess the only thing that was kinda of weird was that when I went to go pick up my suit, he asked 'what color is your suit", they should have a number system or tag order, if I didn't have give him suit bag, it would have taken longer to find my suit.... but just bring a suit bag, it was easy to find my suit. I've been patronizing Fulani for several years now, and I've always been treated extremely well. They've handled simple stuff for me (e.g., hemming), but they've also done some rather complex stuff. I recently lost a lot of weight, and all of my suits had to be taken in. Basically, the tailor had to deconstruct them and put them back together. I was extremely happy with the results. Their prices are extremely reasonable, and they finished the jobs when they said they would. In fact, when I had to fly home for a funeral, they altered a way-too-big suit for me in a day. When I get the scratch together, I will definitely be getting some bespoke gear from them! read more

Got a bridesmaid dress altered here. Very basic alteration of taking in the straps (hefty $40 for a simple job) was done well, but was overpriced. Also, I asked that the front be taken in so that my bra wouldn't show and he assured me that the dress "fit" just fine and kind of dismissed my concern. Lo and behold, come wedding day I was safety pinning my own dress because I was spot on about needing the extra alteration done! Maybe he does male clothing better? I brought my bridesmaids dress here on very short notice. I needed a 4 day turn around, and they nailed it! My dress was a two-layered full length chiffon gown and they pinned it up while I was wearing it (took 5 minutes), I removed the dress, and when I came back a few days later it was perfect. They are also right next to the B/Q train station, so very convenient. Only drawback is this place isn't really geared toward women. There is no block to stand on for long gowns, and the dressing room felt a little cold/basic/exposed. When they returned my dress, they had ripped my dress bag open and didn't have any other dress bags to replace it. Not a big deal, they were very friendly about it and offered me two bags to tie together. All in all, a great local business in Brooklyn. My only recommendation for them to really scale up and take off as a business, it just to cater a teeny bit more toward women. read more

Everyone should have a good tailor in their life. It took me almost a year to find mine in Brooklyn. After some bad experiences going to drycleaners for tailoring work, I found A.B. and his shop, just a few blocks from where I live. A.B. is a master of his craft. He can do anything from a minor alteration to sewing an entire suit from scratch. I've so far brought him several suits and a handful of pants for alteration and he's aced it every time. I came in with a very last minute wedding dress alteration (taking it in and cutting the length of a tricky, tulle, angled bottom) - only 9 days lead time, and she did it perfectly in only 4 days! So, I have a wedding to attend next week. I purchased a new suit for it and wanted to get it tailored, and Fulani was the best reviewed place that was close to me. I took the opportunity to bring in another suit (Italian, hand-made) as well as some Paul Smith London jackets I hadn't worn in a while that were a few sizes too big for me. In other words, I took a bit of a risk bringing such nice garments to a tailor I had never heard of before. AB (great guy, by the way) knows exactly what he's doing. He can fit a suit to your body just by eyeballing you--which is exactly what he did. I tried on the suits and jackets... then a tuck here, a mark there, and I was paid up and ready to go 10 minutes later. He told me to come back in a week, so I did... and everything was waiting for me right on time. I'll add that his prices were much less than I expected as well--the most expensive alteration of the bunch was a pair of trousers that basically had to be rebuilt because they were so long and baggy. That piece cost $35 to alter... well worth it considering the price of a good suit in the first place. Anyway, I'm amazed by how well these suits and jackets fit me now. Contrary to other reviews here, I found no flaws in the stitching; the workmanship is obviously of high quality. No weird stains anywhere, either! This guy can take a $100 suit and make it look like a $1,000 suit. After paying AB a visit, I'm not going to buy another suit again without getting it tailored. It makes a huge difference, and it's really not that expensive to do. And maybe if I want to splurge one day, I'll get a suit custom-made from this place. I read on a men's style blog once that among other things, one thing a man should not die without having is a tailor who knows him by name. I just picked up my suit from Fulani, and it looks fantastic. I bought a Burberry suit off the rack a few weeks before, and while it fit well, the pants had more of a classic fit, instead of the modern/slimmer fit that I was hoping for. I live in Brooklyn, and when I searched for a tailor nearby, Fulani was toward the top. They are right next to the Barclays Center. A.B. (The owner) is super nice, funny and great at what he does (and it's affordable). He said he knew exactly how I was wanting it, and he really followed through. He also had the job done exactly when he said he would. This was my first time going to a tailor, and I'll definitely see him again once I have another suit that needs tailoring. AB is a great tailor! Very professional and completely trustworthy. He completely relined my lambskin leather jacket. He even ordered fabric to exactly match the original lining. Went here a few months back to have some jeans hemmed and a skirt taken out. The skirt turned out well, but the jeans were very uneven. Not only are the legs not the same length, one of the legs is not even lined up correctly (meaning the front of the hem is longer than the back). When you hold up the jeans on their own, you can clearly see that it is uneven, so I'm not sure how they could not have noticed. I should have said something when I tried the jeans on at the shop, but felt uncomfortable because Fulani is really friendly.... But I basically lost a good pair of (expensive) jeans, because I have not been able to wear them since the alteration turned out so bad. On a positive note, Fulani was super friendly and helpful. His personality is basically the reason I am giving a 3-star, rather than 2. And I had no trouble with the items not being finished on time, etc. However, I will not be going back. read more

Despite living ~20 blocks away on 8th street, I made the hike over to Fulani based on the Yelp reviews. In the past I've had pieces altered by dry neighborhood dry cleaners with mixed results. For this job, a blue/grey sports coat, I wanted to find a proper tailor, and at Fulani I did. It helps that your tailor is dressed to the nines and when you walk into Fulani I suspect this will be the case. It shows he takes pride and care in his own wardrobe, and is likely to do the same for yours. Add that he's a nice guy with a good sense of humor and I'm not sure what more I'd look for in a tailor. read more

I THINK I may have finally found a tailor I can trust. I'm a sartorial stickler at it's worst. So when I moved to the area, I was desperate to find a tailor who could really do justice. I need a tailor who understand what I'm looking for and can execute it easily. As a test, I brought two great vintage blazers I had picked up. They desperately needed some work and after reading the reviews about Fulani, I decided to give it a shot. AB (the tailor) was really great to work with. I played it conservatively with what I got done on the jackets, but I was so happy. I mostly wanted the waist taken in and AB did a great job. It was so cleanly tailored and the fit was perfect. He really knew exactly what to do to transform the jacket from a vintage (read: boxy) to a modern/slim fit. He's not totally cheap, but for what you're getting it's worth it. It was $35 for each jacket just for taking in the waist. I asked about shortening the blazer and he said it would be an additional $50 for each jacket. I'll be coming back with a few more items as soon as I can. This one is definitely a great find! read more

I took my gf here to get a bridesmaid's dress altered. It needed to be taken in a size or 2 and also needed to be shortened. We checked pricing at a ton of tailors and dry cleaners and they all mentioned exaggerated prices due to the fact that it was multiple layers and the fabric etc The owner of the store was a nice guy and he was very reasonable with pricing. I've brought a few items here for alterations, and AB did a fantastic job. One of the dresses had a lot of straps that was particularly tricky, and when I got it back, it was perfect and the stiches were unnoticable. I had a pair of jeans that had be altered a little too short, but when I brought it back, he fixed it for free. This place is all about satisfying the customer. I don't know what to think about the way I was treated at this shop today. I called before I went to be sure it was open on Black Friday. I commented that I needed a dress hemmed. When I got there after taking two buses, the seamstress looked at the dress, observed it was unlined and quoted me a price of 50 dollars! I was very surprised and asked her why so much. She said that's what we charge for that. I told her I thought the price was too high and left. I took it to another tailor who is doing the hemming for 20 dollars. In my opinion the seamstress just disliked something about me and wanted to get rid of me. She did and I will not go back. I brought a sequins gown here based off of the reviews on yelp. I bought the gown online, but it was entirely too big and not flattering. However, I didn't want to go through the hassle of exchanging it for a new size. Everyone was extremely helpful. Carlos the tailor was also great! He was able to take in the gown just how I wanted.
