Dry cleaners probably don't get enough love in general--we probably don't notice them unless something goes awry--and especially in these days where the need for nice, crisply dry cleaned clothes to wear to the office is... less prevalent than normal. I'm not a heavy dry-clean user to begin with, and haven't been here much lately, but my seasonal pilgrimage with the (hopefully final) batch of winter clothes reminded me of how quickly and consistently this place operates. I mean uber quick--past experience always leads me to think asking for the end of the week might be tight, yet virtually every time, they're like "tomorrow ok?"  Uhh... sure. And for years, consistently perfect output, never an issue of any kind--no rips, tears, no lost clothing. Great with sewing work as well--buttons, patches, etc.   Tl;dr? I can't wait until I have more clothes that need dry cleaning, and I'll more than happily continue to bring 'em here. read more

Tried them out for a simple pant hem since they are conveniently located. While I was pleased with the swift turnaround time (initially they said a week but it was ready overnight), the pants weren't hemmed evenly - the front hem is shorter than the back. I will have to get them fixed elsewhere. Would go back for dry cleaning, but not tailoring. read more

I went there to get a brand new suit hemmed. Upon picking it up, I noticed there were chalk marks all over the arms. When I asked them about it, they said they needed to mark the arms to know where to hem and since I didn't pay for dry cleaning services too they just left them. Really? You're a dry cleaner and you don't have the decency to just clean the markings on my BRAND NEW suit? So after a whole back and forth where ANOTHER customer had to chime in and ask them to clean it, they finally scrubbed it with a wet cloth and got it out. The fact that they wanted me to pay for dry cleaning on a new suit because they marked it up with chalk is ridiculous. The suit itself was tailored ok, but the whole chalk markings argument brought it down to 3 stars and definitely not returning. read more

Connie destroyed my suit and she refuses to take any responsibility for the damage. Her first response was "the damage was probably already there because it's an old suit you bought at a vintage store." I purchased the suit new at a Dolce&Gabbana store and it has only been worn a handful of times. When I explained this her next response was that I must have a mouse in my house that ate it. I don't know how dry cleaning works but I do know there were no holes in the shoulders of my jacket when I dropped it off 10 days ago. There was, however, a thin white line of something between the shoulders which is why I brought it in. As I dropped it off I showed Connie the line and asked "can you get this off?" I wasn't sure what it was. It could have been food or perhaps it was chalk but it didn't look deeply embedded in the fabric and Connie said she could easily remove it. For whatever it's worth she refused to take another item I'd brought in that day -- a white coat with a brown stain -- because she said she could not remove that stain. Last Thursday I picked up my suit and I immediately checked the back of the jacket when I got home to see if she'd successfully removed the line (I took it home first because they transact their business on the sidewalk and I didn't want to unwrap my suit on the street). The white line is gone but at either end of where it had been the fabric has been abraded beyond repair. On the right shoulder the fabric is now nearly transparent. On the left shoulder she rubbed right through the fabric leaving a dime-size hole. I returned immediately but when I showed Connie the damage she responded with a litany of denials. First it was because I bought it at a vintage store... WRONG. Next was the mouse... also WRONG. The denials continued even as she closed the door in my face, leaving me standing on the sidewalk with my threadbare suit. As I said, I don't know how dry cleaning works but I do know for certain that this damage was not there when I dropped the jacket off 10 days ago. I know this for certain because I examined this section of fabric closely as I tried to determine what that white line was. I get it. Connie could see it's an expensive suit and she didn't want to incur the cost of fixing or replacing it. So the moral of this story is that Connie at Brooklyn Cleaner & Tailor is not only a crappy cleaner but also a crappy person. On Friday I took it to my tailor (I know, the fact that I have a tailor makes me sound like an a**hole but G.O. Hussy on Washington is a genius and an artist and a great guy). If Hussy can find the fabric he will replace the ENTIRE BACK of the jacket. It will not be cheap but I loved this suit. read more

I brought in an all lace dress that was 2 sizes too big on a Saturday. They let me come in and immediately started pinning two darts in the back from the hip to the shoulder blade. She tried to pull the whole dress upwards by shortening the straps but I declined. I loved the use of safety pins instead of regular pins. Charged me $38 and told me it'd be ready by the time I needed it the next saturday. Texted me on Thursday and I went over a couple hours later. The darts on the back were really impressive - the way she had to integrate with the lace texture and how seamlessly she'd done it. Really excellent seamstressing. However - the dress was still too big. It's a whole inch and a half too big on the waist all the way up to the armpits. But honestly I didn't see how it could go smaller with the way she'd opted to change the dress. My personal opinion is that the sides should have been taken in instead of the darting on the back. I told myself I was being a perfectionist and it would be fine. So as I picked up my dress I dropped off my boyfriend's shirt to be pressed. She looked at it and said it was dirty she would clean it, too. So 3.75 (cash needed) to pick it up on Saturday. Fine. He picked it up without issue Sat morning. Well on Saturday I'm still not pleased with the fit of my dress but I figure nobody will notice. He's wearing the shirt and I realize - it's *still* dirty. There are black marks all down the shoulder of this baby pink shirt. ughhhh. And then I got the pictures back from the event. I should mention my torso is very small but my hips and limbs are larger. I look larger than I am in all the pictures because the top of the dress is too big on me so it doesn't show my small waist. Great. Awesome. So glad I paid $38 to look bad. So I'm considering bringing the dress to another tailor and seeing what they can do. I would just donate it but it's the perfect red tone for my complexion and if it fit it'd be just incredible. read more

I have been using this shop for all my tailoring needs (and some dry cleaning) for about five years, sending in dozens of pants, shirts, and other items. Connie does quality work and pays attention to details when it comes to alterations, although they rarely allow you to try the items on when you pick up, which is always frustrating. However, the worst part is the consistency of pricing, as they usually just shoot a random number, which often seems to vary. For instance, I recently brought in three dress shirts to have the sleeves shortened, which I have done many times before. I have paid $20-25 every time but this time she insisted on $30. When I asked why the price went up, Connie got loud and argued with me, stating that their prices never change (and made sure to have a good laugh with her employee at my expense). That alone will cause me to take the rest of my business elsewhere. Even if they do like to say they are the only tailors that know how to do quality work (out of dozens), there are way too many options in the area to consider. Wish it didn't have to be that way, but service is even more precious than the quality of work. read more

Four weeks before my elopement I needed alterations on my vintage 40s wedding skirt that I had bought online, and they got it done so quickly! It was seamless, they even found extra lace that matched the original very well. It's not easy finding someone who will do such precise work on a vintage piece and not overcharge you for no reason. When I went in, they asked me if it was a rush job (and of course I thought, oh no, they won't be able to get it done in time like every other tailor I went to). I asked if two and a half weeks was possible, and they were like "oh! No problem, we'll have it done by Thursday!" and had it even sooner! Plus the price was incredibly reasonable, the work was flawless. They measured me in the middle of their shop, wore masks, had a curtain up for privacy. Had three suits tailored by Connie, two brand new and 1 previously (and badly) tailored. Customer service: Connie and the other lady behind the counter were extremely friendly. It's was a small space but we made do just fine with an mother girl there getting her dress fitted as well. She knew exactly which parts of the suit needed work. Some tailors will try to push their taste on you, but Connie did not. She asked for exactly what I wanted, and gave great opinions when I asked for them. Speed of service: got all three suits back in a week, Saturday to Friday. Best turn around I have had, even suit supply doesn't have this sort of speed. Quality: as mentioned before, one of my suit was badly tailored with sleeves in two different lengths, so I paid a lot of attention to the length and fit of my suit when I picked them up. We use these cleaners all the time for our typical dry cleaning needs. They are very accommodating if you need something cleaned in a quicker turnaround. One downside is that they are closed on Sundays but I can plan around that most of the time. They have also hemmed and done other work on some of my wife's gowns and dresses and we have always been satisfied with their work. I cannot give higher rating for this business! They are reliable, professional. quick and honest. My winter jacket zipper broke and I needed to replace it. I called other business in the neighborhood and they told me it would cost "minimum of $50." Brooklyn Cleaner & Tailor gave me quote of $30 after I sent them photo, and when I went in, they told me that I may not even need to replace it as they could possibly just fix the parts that is not working. The same day they called me up, the work was already done, and the cost was only $10. A lady even called me on my phone to let me know that the jacket is ready to be picked up before the pickup date, which I appreciated. I would definitely go back. read more

I dropped my dress to get dry cleaned. I had grass stains on it from sitting in the park. So I immediately took it to get cleaned and the dress was dry clean only. A week and half later my roommate picked up my dress and she told me that they didn't clean it because it was "too dirty" and didn't want to ruin it. I kid you not- I was not rolling around in mud!! It was grass stains for goodness sakes and if you don't think you can clean it... call me and inform me! I have brought 2 bridesmaid's dresses in for alterations, and both times it has been an exceptional experience. They do not tell you that you need anything extra (for example, I thought I would need one hemmed and taken in, but they reassured me that once it was taken in properly it would fit! I don't understand all these glowing reviews. They shrank every single item of clothing I dropped off. My midi dress is now a mini dress and I can't even wear it to work. The slip underneath it didn't shrink with the rest of the dress and makes the entire dress look crinkled and sloppy. My dress pants are like 2 sizes smaller. I've dry cleaned these elsewhere countless times without any issues. Did they wash all my clothes instead of dry cleaning them? I'm so upset! read more
