I love coming here and giving them my business. I've been to Milano Custom Tailor at least five times now for various clothing items (e.g., work pants, jackets, even yoga pants, bridesmaid dresses). As a 5'1" woman, I need to tailor almost everything I purchase. I absolutely believe that John provides great value in terms of quality/price. John has been my tailor since 1999. Recommended by a sales rep across the street at "Century 21" to alter a just purchased $300 suit. Upon examining the fabric, John stated I'd be fortunate to get a year's wearing, due to its inferiority. He then proceeded to engage me in an hour long soliloquy on the importance of applying fine quality fabric for the construction of custom suits. Two months later, I was sheepishly back to have a fissure in the same slacks repaired. At the same time, I placed my first order commissioning John to create my very first bespoke suit. After a few fitting-sessions, I was presented with his creation. It's fit is akin to a second skin, superior to any off-the-rack suit I had previously owned. Thanks to a healthy lifestyle, that first suit, along with the twenty others which John created for me (over a three year span of time), comfortably drapes my frame to this day. Not to mention my wedding tuxedo, which he completed in record time, John has proven to me to be not only a professional, but an artist and gentleman of the highest order. Milano tailoring is worth every penny. This man used to work for the royal family in Saudi and he does impeccable work. It's quality and 100% worth paying for. He has done excellent tapering and hemming for designer pants for my husband and I have taken silk dresses and abayas to him for hemming. 15/10 would recommend. read more

The tailor, John, is as hardworking a guy as they come. The first time I stopped by I was looking to get a suit altered to fit my slimmer build. I was really skeptical with other tailors (I once had a pair of pants altered with disastrous results), but I read reviews and took a leap of faith. Boy was it a good leap! John took the time to measure the suit, make sure I was happy with the planned alterations, and even was available for advice on how he thinks it could be altered to fit best. After a week I returned, and the suit was everything and more of what I pictured it to be. Since then, I've brought in multiple shirts, pants, and suits that all have been altered exactly as I want them with my specifications. Best tailor in the area by a landslide. read more

Thanks to yelp again for helping us find this place! We were a little leery, because there were only two reviews... but they were both 5-star, and the location was more than convenient for us. The guy found a super deal on a really high-quality suit... only problem was that it was a bit too long. He really didn't want some half-assed tailor to screw it up... but at Milano tailor, they do quality work. It's a small place, on the second floor. The tailor had him try on the suit, made all the measurements and markings. We came back to pick it up a week later, the fit was perfect, and we can't even tell it was adjusted. I think they have some sort of business arrangement with Century 21, because the finished job was presented to us in a new Century 21 logo suit cover. The price was mid-range, but good work is worth the money. They're definitely not actually from Milan, but really, who cares? read more

I ripped my new $700 winter jacket and was super upset when I heard the rip. I searched for a few tailors near me and decided on Milano. I'm so glad I did! The way the jacket was fixed blended in pretty well. The price was very reasonable also. Thanks for saving my jacket! Very happy. read more

John does excellent work. His prices can be a bit steep at times, depending on what you're getting done, but I think it's well worth it. I had a pair of pants tapered and hemmed about an inch, and it cost $45, which isn't bad. I also had a full suit altered, which included a blazer being shortened and slimmed, and a pair of pants being slimmed and hemmed. I want to say that cost me around $120, which is a bit more expensive. I believe that you get what you pay for. I tried a cheaper place once, to get a pair of pants hemmed. I figured it was a simple enough job. The ended up being too long and I just took them to John anyway. John also knows a lot about what he does, and is very helpful. He will recommend alterations if he notices something wrong with a piece. He also knows the terminology, which I found helpful. When you tell him you want a tapered leg with a small break, he knows exactly what you're talking about. I highly recommend taking your clothes to John if you want your alterations to be done right. I've never been disappointed. read more

I went to Milano tailor to get a simple hem done on a bridesmaid dress for a wedding I had coming up. They charged me $100 for a hem but I don't mind paying a lot if the end result is worth It. In this case I picked my dress up they told me there was no need to try It on and when I got home I found that It was never even touched. No alterations were done on It after a week of me leaving It at their shop. But it was too late because the wedding was the following day. Im rating it two stars because I should of known to try It on in the store. read more

DO NOT GO HERE, unless you want to be completely overcharged. Man could not produce a price list and charged quadruple the price of any standard alteration. 60 dollars for a simple hem is definitely not worth it! Go somewhere else! read more

Can I give 0 stars? I would if I could. I dropped 2 pairs of pants on 8/31, told him I needed the pants on 9/13 early. The ticket was written up as such. One pair just needed the zipper on the fly fixed. One pair needed both pockets sewn and a minor waist adjustment. First off, the quote was $40 which I thought was high, but I was in a bind as I was out of town and needed the work done. I go back today, 9/13 at 3p in the afternoon. He hasn't even touched them yet and now I'm screwed for the meeting I have thus week. "Give me an hour". No sir, you had 2 weeks, I'm not giving you an hour to rush my stuff and screw it up. You lose. I cannot stress enough how much I world not recommend this place. read more

I brought a very expensive silk dress here to be altered. It fit but was made for someone much taller. It had to be hemmed about 6 inches and the top had to be moved over. He did a magnificent job. He kept as much of the train as he could, made the top fit well, and added a wrist loop for when I walk. I highly recommend him. He's professional and reasonably priced. read more

Ive had John work on 2 suits, 5 pairs of shirts (taken in for more of a European fit), my tux pants (jacket fit perfectly), and countless pairs of pants... He was recommended by a good friend and I cant be happier with the level of service, turnaround time and quality of work. Milano is the best tailoring in NYC. John is an expert in complex alterations of men's suits. He does beautiful hand stitching. If you have a simple job like a hem, you can go anywhere. But if you have a high quality garment and you want it to fit like a glove, I recommend John. read more

The prices are a bit more than the place I used to go to, but the excellent quality far exceeds any difference in price. The only reason for 5 stars is that you better know what you want - sometimes I've missed something to see it later and it was pretty obvious so it would have been nice to get that suggested. Over priced. I took my prom dress to this place to hem. It was 8 inches too long due to my short height. It was not a complicated dress. It only had 1 layer and I did not have the time to do it myself. I asked how much he would charge for this procedure to be done. He said $60. I went to another place down 4th avenue. A 2 minute walk away, was a place where they did it for $20. My dress turned out great, just as professional. I am sure this man charges $60 for everything, if not more. Excellent Tailor who works very hard to get everything done as he is very busy. For those complaining about prices, don't go here, but don't give a man a bad review because you ended up not liking the price he quoted, ridiculous.
