Stopped in to purchase shampoo and conditioner for a specific need. Reese was able to answer my questions and based on the products I had selected to purchase she suggested a holiday kit that included those items but would save me some money and give me a few extra products. I had mentioned to her that my Aveda account had recently expired but I wanted to know if I could reactivate and still keep the same account number or if I had to sign up again and get a new number. She took down my name and number after she tried calling customer service for me as she was out on hold. She told me she would look into this for me and would text me. Today I got a text from Reese saying she was able to reactivate my account AND that my points were still valid! Reese went above and beyond expectations!!! read more

Just wanted to give a shout out to Charise's warm & helpful customer service! It was my 1st time visiting the Aveda store in San Jose (since I happened to be in the area & had ran low on my usual hair products, although I usually frequent the upper Peninsula stores or Aveda online). I appreciate how Charise made me feel very welcomed while constructively answering my questions. She warmly but also succinctly explained the difference between the new Invati thickening mousse/foam vs the older thickening tonic, as well as current promotions for the Invati line. Average is seriously both my mom's and I'd main hair go to. They have amazing selection and great products for both our hairs, I have wavy curly hair she has spiral curls. Majority of their hair line is color safe and is not made from harsh ingredients than can dry up or tangle the hair. Not only do they have great products but they have the most friendliest employees here! read more

Great customer service from staff member Chanel. I was promptly greeted entering the store and she was readily available to make great recommendations for my hair care needs. I initially came in for a certain line of hair care I used 4-5 years ago and got introduced to a newer line the brand now has. (It's in a green bottle, I don't remember the name). I never was offered a complimentary massage like some yelpers here, but they always offer me their tea that I love! It has a hint of peppermint. I just ordered two boxes of tea with my pure privilege points. You can pay $10 for their member card where you receive points for gifts like products, discounts for salon services, etc. And you get a free gift that is worth $10+ anyway - sample of shampure shampoo and conditioner, hand relief and foot relief lotions in a cute makeup bag. Service people are knowledgeable. I like how they leave you alone and don't push products. This is a small store, but they have just as much as Ciana in Los Altos and any other salon. AND they have all the travel sizes of everything here, which I have never seen at any salon before. I like the smell of their products, but don't use everything Aveda in my hygiene routines. I love the way rosemary shampoo, carribean therapy and brilliant smell - reminds me of their tea sort of. I like the all-sensitive moisturizer and toning mist spray (I'm lazy). Ok, let me start by saying that I am totally confused by some of the poor customer service comments. I've been shopping here for years and never once have I had a single issue. And I am a total cutomer service snob who will call it like it is if things are not cool even once. Every time they have been pleasant, friendly, and exceedingly helpful. As for the products, I only use the hair products (shampoo, conditioner, styling product, hairspray). Every time I have tried something else, I always go back because nothing makes my hair happy like Aveda products. I have fine, chemically processed hair and seriously only Aveda products work for me! Not a fan of the cosmetics, though. While I like their agenda, they just don't work for me. The eyeshadows aren't as true as I would like and the lipsticks just don't last long enough. Skin products are nice, but expensive and I use a different brand for that. I want to like the cosmetics line, but every time I have tried it, I was let down. Oh, and if they aren't too busy and offer a hand massage, take it! Definitely relaxing and a nice touch! But the hair products won't let you down and the prices are reasonable. Get on the mailing list and get cards for free samples. I usually bring them in when I am stocking up, but they are ok with giving you a sample if you don't buy something. read more

So, I'm big on customer service. And if you treat me like crap, I'm never going to go back, and I'm going to tell all my friends, and I'm going to diss your products. You know how a store is supposed to stay open until it actually closes? At about 15 minutes before the store was actually supposed to close, a friend and I were walking down the mall, near to Aveda's doors. The girls inside were doing nothing but waiting for it to be time to actually close down. We hadn't even decided if we were going in yet, but to help us along, both of them stared at us through the glass with their highlighted hair and chic outfits, as if that made them special. Then one of them came toward us, took the handle of the glass door, and pulled it closed. Right in front of us, less than five feet away. I made sure she heard me call her what she was, and she had the nerve to look startled, but she certainly didn't look guilty or sorry. I have never deigned to look in their direction since. Sadly for her and Aveda, my fat pocketbook and platinum credit cards will never spend a dime at their store. read more

The one star is for customer service. There was a guy who was at least trying to help out , but the girl was very rude. She walked right past me and offered tea to some other man. I mean wtf, not that I was super interested in the tea, but that's not the way to treat customers. She was a short brunette. I had to look at stuff on my own. After the guy started billing the stuff we bought she started chatting with him. No greetings, no smiles. She shouldn't be in customer service! Disgusted with the whole experience. read more

Aveda has some great products at prices that aren't too bad for most people. I went in to get some Anti-Humectant pomade for my hair. It's sort of a waxy product that adds shine and hold without any stickiness like gel, mousse, or hairspray does. There are two types, the one I got was the waxy kind in the white jar. It was $20.00 and lasts a long time even if used often. You only need a little bit of it. It's good for dry frizz prone hair or flyway hair. It's also good for keeping you hair looking polished in humid weather. read more

Note: For customer service this place deserves no stars. Pros: Easy to get to. Good location to do other shopping. Cons: Terrible customer service. I bought some products there during a special event where they help you "pick" the items that best suit your needs. They said if they didn't work, I could bring them back. I went back after 6 weeks and was told to try the product for the full 8 weeks. Still no results. I went to return today and the Store Manager said, "There isn't enough product left to let you return it." WTH! What a scam! I WILL NEVER GO TO THIS STORE AGAIN and plan to call Corporate tomorrow morning. read more

I really like some of their products. They try to use as little bad chemicals as possible and are re-vamping their facial blushes next year where things like titanium dioxide are removed. If you're on their mailing list, they'll send you cards in the mail to go into the store for free samples. I know it's a way to entice you in to shop but I've gone in for samples and left without buying anything and they're pretty cool about it. My co-worker really likes their products so I came in to get her a gift card. The saleslady was very nice and asked for her name & verified in the computer that she shops at their stores. I thought that was both funny and scary at the same time. Their lipsticks don't have a lot of staying power and they don't have the variety of colors compared to brandname cosmetic companies but it's nice to know you're not putting a lot of bad and unhealthy products on and into your body. read more

I went with my girlfriend to this store a few weeks ago because she had to buy some shampoo. She swares by Aveda haircare products and she has the glowing locks to prove her case. The girl at the counter was a total witch with a capital b. We asked about prices on a few different bottles because there were stickers which indicated 30 percent savings. She just stood there with a snotty look on her face and her chapped lips pursed like we were bothering her when we asked about prices. I think I will take my girlfriend to Aveda in Santana Row the next time she comes to visit from LA. read more

If I were just rating the store on service, it would have received 5 stars. I went there on a Saturday morning, I was served tea and got good suggestions on which products to choose. I didn't experience the poor customer service that some other yelpers have. Minus 2 stars because of the products - I tried the moisturizer on that Saturday afternoon and woke up on Sunday morning with a horrible allergic reaction all over my face! My theory is that my allergy to grass was somehow triggered by one of the natural ingredients - but I never will know the cause for sure. I'm definitely going to steer clear of Aveda products from now on. I returned the products on the following Monday and they took everything back, no problem. read more

Always VIP treatment here! My parents are obsessed with aveda. Shopping here does have its perks. You get a lot of freebies and if you join their frequent shopper program, you are entitled to mixing up your own oils and fragrance. Cool. Although everything in the store smells very similar, they all smell good. The aveda smell is a type of musk, and their rosemary mint shampoo is bomb. Really invigorating. Suave did a knockoff... but you know it's always good to go with the real thing. read more

I went for a hair trimming and the lady understood exactly what I wanted. I am so happy and all I gave was a donation that will be to benefit planet earth foundation. Aveda in Westfield valley fair, a wonderful place to visit, the staff is very nice, they gave me hot tea and treated me very nice. Amanda was very sweet and helpful too. The gals who were working were super friendly, gave me a sample of their tea, nice but, a bit to herbal for my liking, and got me out of there without buying the whole store. I've been using Aveda probably for over 15 years. I know the products well, and came to this store so I could just buy and leave. But, I got over-serviced. One lady tried to do a hair consultation and a make-up consultation, and sell, and sell, and sell...did I ask for help? No, I actually said I was okay and that I was actually at my Aveda stylist yesterday and forgot to buy product. And sell, and sell... It's all good if I was eager for it or showed any interest in wanting to learn more...but, I was all good by myself....and sell, and sell. It was like they had just been to a turbo Aveda seminar. I did ask a question about men's shaving cream to a different lady, and she answered my question, and we moved on. That's the kind of selling I like...indirect and product knowledge when it's needed. read more

I dropped by to pick up some shampoo and conditioner and the service was great. I already knew what I wanted and they didn't try to sell me anything extra. She did mention they have a new men's exfoliating shampoo. I bet the men's stuff sucks though. It's a marketing thing for girls to spend money to try and make their boyfriends smell better or something. I got the rosemary mint. I've tried it before at a nice hotel and also at a friend's place. Soooo nice. Decent/mixed reviews on makeupalley.com. A friend described as yelp for makeup/face/bath/etc products. lol!! The UI is not as good as yelp's, but I have to admit the reviews are useful. I didn't have the bad experiences the 1-3 star reviewers had. When someone came after me and asked to try a sample, she was acknowledged and given a proper amount of attention. There was also another sales associate on hand. Tip: make sure you let them know about skin sensitivities before doing the hand massage. They will use oils. Products: 1) My hair usually gets frizzy due to the blow-dryer, so she recommended Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair. I like how soft it feels. 2) I also got a refill of All Sensitive Body Formula, which works better for me than Eucerin! Eucerin causes my hands to go red, but this moisturizes them without causing an allergic reaction. Seriously... if those Whole Foods sensitivity products give off a greasy or chalky feeling, try this. read more

I recently went in to the Valley Fair store to pick up some Shampoo and conditioner. My hair is pretty normal, but has felt a little dry since I started putting some highlight streaks in. I purchased the following: Smooth Infusion Shampoo and Conditioner: I love the Shampoo and Conditioner: My hair felt less dry/brittle after 2 days of use Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair: seems like a good product but I think I will return this one because it seems to weigh my hair down a little too much. Refreshing Bath Bar: I absolutely love! I have extremely dry skin and am usually itchy after using soap, but with this my skin does not feel overdry at all! It has a nice light scent to it that is not overwhelming. The girl who helped me in the store was nice, she answered all of my questions and made sure to ask me if I was part of their program. I am looking forward to continuing to use their products. I also like the fact that they are a green company and are doing their part to reduce waste and pollution, I recently receieved a survey to take that gave me an estimate of how much water I use daily...what an eye opener! read more

Let me start by saying I've been using Aveda Be Curly for many many years. It's what works best in my hair, and now in my daughter's hair. The price has been going up and up and up. But that's not my issue. Terrible customer service is what has me writing this review. Remarkably different from what I've experienced in the past. In the past when I came in for my free birthday gift, an associate would assist me in selecting a scent. She'd usually do a brief hand massage to try out the hand lotion and offer a sample of tea. The staff in the past have always been friendly and generally offered great service. Today (10/10/12, around 1:15pm) I went in to stock up on Be Curly, and to get my free birthday gift, I was horrified at the service I received. I was the only customer in the store. Apparently there were two staff working, but one was in the back. I told the girl I was there for my birthday gift AND placed two bottles of Be Curly on the counter to purchase ($45+ worth of merchandise). She gestured to the area where you pick the scent you want, and said, go ahead and pick out your scent. Once I selected one, she dumped it into the bottle, shook it for two seconds and told me I should shake it up. No assistance selecting smells, no offer to try anything, no lotion, no tea. Wow. What (LOUSY) service!? I'm about to drop nearly $50 in your store and you treat me like that? The girl did tell me she was having "one of those days," but you know what? There's no excuse. I work in a service industry too. I'm a yoga instructor and a mom. I have hard days, but when you go to work to serve other people, you leave your stuff at the door, put on a smile, and be kind. Very disappointed. I have to wonder if the training program has changed, or if it was just this individual doing a very lousy job. read more

This location was my all time favorite store to the point I *unwisely* spent couple hundreds here on my monthly visits. So I should really thank them for stopping my shopaholic behaviors. How it went from 5 to 1 star... In gist - BAD service by one associate + manager. The story: They were back ordered on Invati scalp revitalizer for weeks and I obediently put my name down on the wait list very early on and still bought the other two products in the line (shampoo & conditioner) as the sales person told me she will call me right away when they have the product. I go back every weekend to check on it and it was not there. Then, as I went in again to redeem my birthday gift from them (lotion) I saw it the scalp revitalizer on the shelf! I asked how long they've had it and they said 2-3 days. I bought it right away and a part of me was wondering when they ever planned on calling me bc my name remained on the wait list. * as of today it's been 2-3 weeks and they still haven't called (this is after they told me to buy the other two products in the line "first" * I picked up my birthday gift lotion in the scent that was recommended to me and realized that night I absolutely dislike the after-scent. Went back in the very next day (5/9/2012 at 12:30pm) to exchange scent and they were out of that particular lotion. The only sales person there at the time is the only sales person I hate in that store (in the past visits she had provided horrible service with bad attitude, and told me I would waste the shampoo that I wanted to exchange to a larger size). When she told me she can out me on the wait list and will call me when they have the lotion - I shivered at the word "wait list" thinking about the other product I have been wait listing for in the past 3 weeks and as they happily sell it off to customers who walk in conveniently, I still haven't gotten a call and I see bottles already vanishing away on their shelf in the past 3-4 days. I told her right away their wait list isn't effective and said I would take any other lotion of the same value. She rejected and said she can call her manager to confirm she's right. I said, "do it." She then FAKE DIALED her manager and when I asked to speak to whoever she's speaking to - she quickly pressed a bunch of button and retold the story to a real person. The mgr, Angela, repeatedly told me I can't get another lotion of the same value and degraded me by repeating me this is FREE birthday offer as if I should just shut up with this huge free $20 favor. At the end she promised she will give me a small sample lotion and ship me the lotion when she gets it next Wednesday, and added it will take 3-5 business days to ship. You guessed...today, 5 business days after the Wed, I still see nothing in my mailbox. Why did I even believe her? Just like how they still haven't contacted me for the wait list I've been on for over a month even when they have the item for 2 weeks. read more

I go in, they offer me tea, I look for my products, they are available to answer my questions in a pleasant manner, they don't make any disparaging remarks about my dry skin or frizzy hair (usually I have run out of their shampoo and am using the cheap stuff by the time I go in to re-stock), ring me up, tell me about my rewards that I know I won't be able to cash in for anything worthwhile until the year 2025, and I'm outta there. read more

a girl named alex was totally rude to me i will never go here again! I bought a foundation and a powder. it had fregrence in it and im very sensative to fregrence. i thought it was more natural, guess not. so i came to return it. of course when you purchase something it has to go back on the same card you purchased it with. i had that card with me but i had closed that bank account. Alex, being so rude.... not even understanding said theres nothing i can do for you mam, at least 100 times. I mean i had the card with me and i just wanted my money back... I just experienced very poor customer service at this location. Aveda sends you a coupon, you go in and the staff person tells you they are out of the sample. Then when you try to use the other coupon, it's not the right day. I'm tired of going in here and not getting what I came in there for. I guess I'll never know if the moisturizing hair product will actually make the curly shampoo/conditioner work better. Didn't really like the product anyway. I like to walk around with Aveda shampoo and snort it up my nose like it's crack.

After trying the travel size Hand Relief lotion and finally finding a hand moisturizer that worked, I came here to buy the regular size. Easy to find in the store as I knew what the bottle looked like. I like that they have limited products and items on the shelf that it's not overwhelming to the eye. The sales associates are friendly and usually offer tea. Transaction was conducted quickly and efficiently so I was in and out in minutes. read more

This review is for Aveda online. I received email from them offering double rewards points and five mini samples with purchase. I placed the order and selected the samples I wanted and confirmed the above with the customer service rep. When the order arrived, there was no sample and no double points. When I called them about this, they tried to argue that the offer expired when I placed the order. That was untrue, of course as I have an email from them confirming the date the order was placed.
