Regular acrylic full set by RON.
Maayan A.

RON did an amazing job! If you are looking for a technician who takes his time to make sure he perfect his craft than definitely schedule an appointment with Ron! I love that he doesn't rush and that he wants your nails to look perfect just like you do! He is up to date with the latest trends. He also gave a pedicure that was to do UPDATE: My nails were cut way too short and every nail shape was different. I was told I could come back for a free re do with Terri. Once I got there they tried to convince me that my nails looked good she just needs to shape them more..... she hardly changed them at all. When I told her they weren't even she told me it was in my head and then ignored me. DO NOT GO HERE

Fill in after 3 days, and 2 visits to repair the polish

I was really trying to hold off writing this review, hoping that there would be a happy end to this story, but alas....Looks like I have the dissenting voice among my fellow Yelpers. After reading the fantastic reviews I decided to check this place out last week. I was especially excited because the salon is a very short distance from my home. My nail tech, Ron, was a very polite and enthusiastic guy from Cambodia. He was very meticulous and attentive to his work and before the polish was applied, my nails looked pretty good. Not the best, a little narrower than what I preferred, but still decent. After he polished them, however, I noticed that they were not evenly or consistently shaped (I wear stiletto nails, but since my fingers are stubby, I prefer more of the cat-claw look). Some nails were pointy, others more rounded, the edges of some were straight on one side and curved on the other. I also noticed that some of the nails were really thick while others were thinner. I'm SUPER picky about my nails, but I was willing to overlook it until my next fill-in and give Montessa, the American nail tech, a try on my next visit. I had been chatting with her while Ron was doing my nails and she seemed to have a better idea of what I was looking for in terms of nail shape and overall style. Two days after my fill-in, the gel polish on several of my nails started to peel off. Not chip... it lifted up in large chunks and was coming off of my nail. By the time I made it back to the salon on Monday, I had two nails that were completely bare. The owner allowed an obviously much less experienced nail tech (she asked the owner a million questions, and I could tell she was starting to lose her patience a bit) re-polish my nails, no problem. After another day or so, 4 of my nails started peeling. Adding insult to injury, one of the nails also broke. So here I am, one-week after the fill-in, pockets $38 lighter (including tip) and I have a mangled mess on my hands. My plan was to go back to the salon and have a chat with the owner, but I wanted to make sure I could select the person I wanted to re-do my nails. I called the salon and spoke to Montessa to see if she had appointments available. She told me that she would check and get right back to me. I've never heard back from her. I was willing to give this salon the benefit of the doubt: maybe it was a bad bottle of polish or maybe the young man just needed some more training. I was willing to try another nail tech and see if I could make this a great working relationship. But a lack of quality work, a lack of respect for a client's time and a lack of professionalism (i.e. not calling a client back) equals three strikes for me. If you don't want your nails looking a disheveled mess, avoid this place.

Came here two years ago and they cut my finger when trying to shape my nails. Came back today thinking it was probably a one time thing but they cut my friend's fingers twice. We both asked for dip powder manicures today and it's the worst manicure I've ever gotten. They ruined the shape of my nails and they're not even the same shape for all fingers. The powder was put on so thickly and it just looks like circular blobs on each finger. They never apologized and even blamed us for their terrible job. Highly disappointed and can't wait to get these off.

polish completely off two nails (and chipped off the rest) three days after manicure

3 days later, nail polish is chipped and completely off two fingers. I've done nothing unusual but the OPI polish at the salon was so thin that my guess is it's highly diluted. Salon looks nice but prices at checkout were higher than online prices and higher than in-store brochure. Mani/pedi was brisk with no massage whatsoever. Pedicure still looks fine but manicure didn't last two days.

Avalon is a pleasant little gem tucked into the rear of Leisure World Plaza. My sister and I were looking for a place to get Christmas mani-pedis and this seemed like our best bet. The salon was clean and their prices were very reasonable. A fresh set of sanitized tools was used and my nail tech Montessa gave my hands and feet some serious TLC. I cannot express express how sweet, funny, talented and hardworking Montessa is. I will definitely be back when I'm in town again just to see her. **My sisters nail tech was not as good but others seemed fine

Wow, I went here for the first time, it is on the back side of the shopping center by Ledo Pizza a little hard to find. Super impressed! Montessa gave me a great pedicure. She spent her summers in Southern MD, my second home. We both have a love of crabs. She did crabs in my nails. It looks so cool, trust me I tipped her well.

I had a great experience at Avalon. As I wanted in, I was unsure if they would be able to accommodate the color I wanted. I wanted flat or matte black and nothing else! But luckily, they did! Emmy did my nails and she made sure I was happy with the shape the entire time. It was my first time in a very long time and she was very patient and show with me. I even scraped my nail as I was turning my key to my car, went back in, & she fixed it! They were great! I will definitely be returning!

Love this spot. Had been bouncing around the 1,000 salons in the Olney/Rockville area for years until I found this one. Ron gives the best massages and all the nail technicians are pretty good. Very causal environment while maintaining some luxury vibes. Reasonably priced for manis and pedis. Sweet, personable, and flexible staff. The photo attached is of a powder manicure a week after I getting it done (ignore my ugly hands)

My fiancée and I walked in yesterday around 6:30 pm to get pedicures done. They were about to close but still got our pedicures done. The techs we had (Ron and another young lady) were very efficient and while the process was quick, the final product was great. The environment is very nice and tranquil. The equipment is well maintained, especially compared to other salons around the area. The entire salon is very clean. We met one of the owners (Mona), and she was very kind and welcoming. We will surely be going back to try out their other services.

I've been a customer at Avalon for about a year and I wouldn't go anywhere else! I not only go there for my nails, but also brows (threading, waxing) and hair (cut, color, highlights). Emmy is exceptionally conscientious and attentive when doing my manicures and pedicures, but all the nail techs there are very skilled. Mona does a wonderful job threading my brows, getting the perfect arch, and others at Avalon have done just as well when waxing my brows. Ekta is a talented hair stylist and I am always very pleased with my cut and color. She is attentive to my concerns, addressing them to my satisfaction and offering suggestions. And the price is half of what I used to pay at other hair salons where I often got disappointing results. Everyone at Avalon is congenial and I am always greeted by name and with a smile when I walk through the door. The salon is clean, nicely decorated, well-stocked with gel and polish colors, utilizes quality hair and nail products, and offers the latest innovations and techniques at a fair price. My appointments are usually on time with only the rare exception. Despite walk-ins, the unscheduled add-on services of some clients, and the unreasonable demands of some others, the staff are always pleaant and try to keep to the appointment times without compromising the quality of their work. So, it is extremely upsetting to witness the rudeness they are subjected to by some customers who are unreasonable, complaing loudly, throwing hissyfits, and berating the nail tech if they have to wait a short while to be seen. Or they they demand that all their broken and chipped nails be re-done for free! (Do these people yell at their doctors when they must wait to be seen?! Do they return a set of glassware to the store and insist on a no-charge replacement set for a glass they've dropped on the floor and broken?!) These are the same people who speak very loudly on the phone the entire time they're at the salon, with no consideration for any other customers. Apparently, if they aren't happy, then NO ONE can have a relaxing and enjoyable spa experience. (Of note, on the very rare occasions I've noticed an issue with a nail on the same or following day that wasn't a result my scraping or banging it, I've called the salon and the problem was immediately addressed with profuse apologies and without charge. But if I damaged the nail, I've felt it was appropriate to schedule an appointment for repair and I fully expected to pay for the service.) In short: everyone at Avalon is professional and pleasant no matter what, even when they've had no break for hours due to high volume of customers or they've been subjected to rude treatment from a few unreasonable clients.

Horrible customer service. Nail polish completely faded after three days and they charged me again. I will not return to this shop.

I found a place in Howard County that is much more no-frills but they get the job done and I like the way they cut my hair. I just can't justify paying two or three times as much money at Alchemy. Also, the parking is stressful at that shopping center, which is not the fault of the Salon but is an aspect of being a customer. So I don't have to deal with that unless of course I'm going to Trader Joe's, which is in the same shopping center.

The staff here is super friendly as soon as you walk in your being greeted by the ladies and in my case the owner was there, she was so amazing made sure I felt comfortable from the minute I walked in till I was done which was past the time of closing. My artist was Nicky the person who made me look like a super star, as you guys can see in my pictures Ku hair was horrible, I had so much growth and my grays were all coming out more, Covid made me get them!! lol..... Im so happy with her service she first took the time to explain the process. Everything she españoles she delivered and I was one happy client. In the 24 years I've been coloring ny hair Nicky has to be the Absolute Best!!! So worth the price and the time. I alway say invest in yourself with high quality ONlY because that's what you deserve!! If you live in the area or are visiting make sure and stop in and book your appointment, your won't regret the experience.

She also limits her distractions (phone, food, etc). Joy was also accommodating, I wanted my locs interlocked but when booking online it does not give that option. However, she explained why and after noticing my undercut, stated the price and said she could still get it done in an hour. True to her word, I was washed, conditioned, interlocked, palm rolled and under the dryer at the 1 hour mark. I tried interlocking before with a different Loctician and was very disappointed so I was hesitant. Joy's work is impeccable and I couldn't be happier. After about 2 yrs of maintaining my hair on my own, I've finally found someone I can trust to assist me on this journey. Thank you so much Joy!
