So much for wanting my nails to look good for my trip out of town today... the gel polish is beginning to peel off of my fingernails! It hasn't even been 12 hours since I had my appointment! $107 for a gel fill with cut down, one nail repair, a gel pedicure with callus removal, and eyebrow wax was a ripoff! In all of my years of getting these services from various nail salons in this area, I have NEVER paid this much money! How is it okay for a nail salon to charge $8/$15 (regular/gel) for nails to be cut shorter? The pricing of this service is too high! I don't get my nails done often. Maybe twice a year. But I have been going to Nancy for a few years now. I am one of those individuals that is very picky yet easy to please. Nancy is polite, gentle, professional and does a great job with my manicures and pedicures. I am simple, don't cut me and give a good polish application. I get the basic manicure and pedicure and I am always pleased with the service. In addition to all mentioned, Nancy is good at being personable but not super talkative. She reads when I am just trying to chill out and leaves me be but also gives me gentle reminders if she needs me to move or whatever. I just went here with my mom and we didn't have the best experience. We are Vietnamese and could understand the nail technicians as they'd talk amongst themselves. They did not have anything nice to say about us even though we were nothing but kind to them. There was instant trash talking about us from the beginning and unnecessary comments about my mom's age, weight, and overall look. The only pro was that my tech knew what she was doing and gelled my toenails really well. My mom's tech was inconsistent and made her toes unevenly shaped and shaded. I wish I could say they only said mean things about us but they literally had something negative to say about each and every client who was in that place. Everyone's entitled to their opinions but there's a time and place to express them. The level of professionalism was extremely low. I would never recommend this place to anyone. I used to come here all the time with my mom to get pedicures. We mostly came here because it was cheap and they did a semi-good job: my nails would be trimmed, clipped, the polish would last a while, and my feet would be smooth. No frills, easy in and out kind of appointment. I've been here for a gel manicure in the past, as well as a regular manicure. Two weekends ago I came in for my birthday and wanted a quick and fast white manicure since I was running late for a dinner. She asked me four, yes FOUR, times during my session (if you could call it that, I probably spend more than the 10 minutes she spent on my nails doing my own at home) -- let me repeat, FOUR -- that this manicure was $10, and if I wanted to pay now or later. Like woman. I get it, its $10. My mother is there with my purse and she can pay you once its done. God, so annoying. That wasn't even the worst part. It is now 1.5 weeks since my manicure...and look at the picture below. That's the better hand, my right hand is chipped beyond belief. Now, I have done no manual labor, no digging around in the mud, no scratching or clawing at trees...this is purely chipping from .... crappy, old nail polish? Crummy service? Just a bad job all around? You take your pick. But this is not even what a 5 year old's finger nails look like after a week. Bubbly, scratched, and peeling. Really? I get it, it was $10...but really? Could've bought a whole gel polish set at CVS and done a better job than this myself - AND not get bubbles in my nail polish! I'm done coming here. They are so intent on taking your money and don't care about doing a good job. If you want a good manicure / pedicure, want to be treated well, and be somewhere clean / neat / tidy / nice to look at, go to Lalu'a nails just a few miles away. This review is a combination of all the times I've visited this nail salon.. I've been going to this place for a while now. It's is inexpensive and you get what you pay for! This place has been recently renovated and prices have slightly increased but still inexpensive! Service is average at most and sometimes it's extra quick that you're not getting everything in detail completed. For example: when getting a pedicure there is a foot scrub included and sometimes it's skipped and other times it's being done for less than 10 seconds on each foot it's like you get to smell but can't eat sort of thing! There is a constant question of "do you want gel?" during the span of time you are there when all you want is a regular manicure because you're well aware that gel won't even last a week on your nails because it starts peeling because it was done either extra fast with no attention to detail or that it was not done professionally like advertised! (See pics of my gel nails peeling from the cuticles exactly a week after being done)...very disappointed that I paid for a polish that should've lasted at least 2 weeks but it didn't! No one really knows how to do a decent design on the nails or different patterns/shapes. I tried showing a basic design picture once to the nail technician and she got really confused then said no! So don't count on getting anything above the average flower design! I always bring my own polish to use and sometimes I get a $1 off my nails and other times I don't..not sure what the process is! (I bring my own because it saves me time on choosing a color also most of the polish at the salon is dry/old) I once brought in 2 of my own colors and wanted one nail painted differently with one color vs. all the other nails with the other color, yet the technician wanted to charge me $3 extra dollars to paint a nail in a different color! Definitely did not make sense, especially when it is my own polish I'm using! So I would of rated them 5 stars but because of poor service I had to deduct 3. I went in yesterday (3/10/17) with a friend to get a pedicure and a gel nail fill in, the pedicure was great but my nail look unfinished in somewAys (view pictures). Fast forward to today I went in to get one nail repaired because of a accident at work and quickly the male who I guess is the owner told me no they couldn't fix it they're too busy. As a customer you don't want to hear NO he could've simply said they're booked do I mind coming back but told me instead no they're busy. So as of now they have officially lost my business and I will be traveling Gaithersburg for now on at least I know I will get good customer service. Had zero wait when I stopped in around 4pm on a Wednesday. It took $28 (+ tip) and 45 mins to get a mani/pedi. Bonus: They actually take credit cards! Quick, no frills service -- So if you want a "spa nails" experience, go elsewhere! Quibbles: -I did kind of feel that my technician, Sandy, was rushing w/ my mani/pedi, because I'm a relatively young, new customer, and she had an older lady waiting for her (The old lady actually butted in while my nails were getting done to say, "Sandy, I'm putting my color right here next to you. I'll just be waiting...." How rude! -My leg massage was pretty insipid and low-energy. -Golden Nails doesn't use plastic bags or other more sanitary methods for the foot baths. Results: -I was worried that Sandy wasn't spending enough time on me, but I'm happy w/ my pedicure. -My fingernails were done at lightening speed and could have been filed a touch more carefully/symetrically, but I did come away looking like I had lovely, subtle French tips -- but this was probably most a result of the sheer pink OPI color I picked. -I did tip $6 (over 20%), so I guess I was pretty satisfied. Verdict: It's in such a convenient location (Aspen Hill shopping plaza), with Panera, Giant supermarket, and USPS! And at only $28 (compared to $35 or $40 in DC), I'll probably be a regular at Golden Nails as long as my polish doesn't chip horribly. read more

I would never go to Golden Nails again because of the piss poor experience I experienced. The nail tech kept on saying how the nails I were getting were too long. She also kept pestering me about getting gel instead of regular. She promised it would be better, thank God I didn't listen to her. Last time, I checked I can get the length of nails I want and I didn't appreciate her constant nagging about them being long. The customer is always right and she definitely could use a tip in learning customer service. Additionally, this particular nail tech proceeded to put glue on my nails even when I told her it was making them burn. The results are in the below photos. I would strongly suggest that you not go to a nail salon who does not give great customer service. Also, she never tried to get to know me or ask me questions. Made me feel like I was just a cash cow to her. I wish more people of color would have nails salons so black people would not have to give money to salons like Golden Nails. Of course, the nail tech wanted to probe my mom about giving her tip even though she was absolutely awful and spoke in her language for most of our session outside of her complaining about the length of my nails. Also, once I left the nail salon my nails weren't shiny at all. So, I had to go back into the salon and get them shiny again. Where do I start. My first visit or the second time around? My first visit was almost 2 years ago. The technician had an attitude as soon as I ask them a question or requested a minor adjustment. My second visit. I arrived early afternoon and wanted to be in and out. The visit was quick, and felt extremely rushed. I noticed how open one of the technician was to a girl who wasn't satisfied with her nail design. The girl asked for the nail to be reprinted and surprisingly, the tech redid the nail, without any issue or negative back and forth. The girl was treated kindly. This was not the case for me. After the speedy pedicure, I was sat at the drying table which was pushed tightly against the front window. I told the tech how uncomfortable the drying station was, but my request to sit on the outside was denied. I found the custom-service to be harsh. The way that they spoke to certain customers was completely different from the way they spoke to me. They disregarded me and not the girl who had several requests for better service. I don't call out discrimination easily, but in this case, I experienced it first hand. read more

I have been going to Golden Nails since it has opened, many years ago. I always have a good experience there. I have had many of their services, waxing, pedicures and many types of manicures. I have never felt pressured to spend extra money. I enjoy going to Golden Nails because it gives me a chance to relax. Nickki, the owner, and her husband are always friendly and welcome you when you get there. It's nice to have a nail shop like this in the neighborhood. I don't know where to start. My pedicure was ok. Nothing special. Three of the manicurists had their children (all under the age of 5) at the salon. One customer brought her son who played a video at full blast the entire time I was there. The mother paid no attention to the child. I sit for my manicure with square nails. The only question the manicurist asked was do you want your nails trimmed. I said yes please. Before I knew what was happening she cut my nails into points. I told her I did not come in here with pointy nails. She did not ask me if I wanted pointy nails. She offered to file them to a more square shape which would have resulted in nubs. One of the manicurists had on a longish sweater and knee high boots. Very inappropriate for daytime in a nail salon. What appeared to be the owner or owner's wife sat with the inappropriately dressed manicurist and spoke so loudly that it drowned out everything else in the salon. Then they ran around showing a picture on their cell phone to all the other manicurists whether they were with a customer or not. RUDE STAFF. INAPPROPRIATE CLOTHING. DISRESPECTFUL OF CUSTOMERS AND BAD SERVICE. I will not give this salon a second chance, and neither should you. read more

I got my nails done on Sunday paid $30 for a fill w/ gel polish and it was peeling off the next day they told me to come in but I am a single mom and cannot make it in until the weekend. This place is a nightmare. It got the worst mani-pedi ever. Lona the woman working on my nails was very inattentive and it was clear she did not enjoy her job. She rushed my nails so much so that they were not evenly coated and had bubbles in them! When I went back and asked her to fix she rolled her eyes and fixed them. Do not go here. a) They do not clean the bowls between clients. They just rinse and refill. b) They do not clean the instruments between clients. They don't keep them in disinfectant. There's not autoclave in sight. Several people noticed this. c) Most pedicures include at least a five- minute foot massage. You'll get none of that here. This is exactly how foot infections spread. I was visiting with a friend had asked for a pedicure originally (it was my first time there) but when I saw they didn't clean the bowl or the emory boards/ cuticle scissors I asked for just a polish change. Which is what she did - I wouldn't let her use the cuticle scissors or any other instruments at all. Then when I went to pay they charged me for a full pedicure, when I said that I just had a polish change, the guy (who seemed to do no work except accept payment) started a whole fight saying that because I'd asked for a pedicure that's what I pay for, even if I asked for something different in the chair. I know it's cheap and it's convenient. But it's not worth getting an infection. Most pedicure places either open a new packet for clients or let you keep your own instruments there. At the very least, they disinfect their instruments. I'm really pretty upset about this. I wish I had just said no and walked out. read more

Early the morning walk-ins, there's almost no wait! Plus everyone speaks & understands English very well, huge advantage when trying to achieve optimal results. I had Nhi as my pedicurist, she's young, totally chill, and efficient (a bit quiet, but i didn't mind). I brought two polish choices, one that's difficult to apply well and one that's easy, she rose to the challenge of OPI's Sweet Heart , with fantastic results. I also apologized for my insane callouses and she tackled them with gentle ferocity (if such a thing exists)... i did have to encourage her to re-evaluate her progress with the smoothing/softening process, but she did and I was generally happy. For a $20 pedicure, this was a fantastic find, wish i had just thrown in an additional $8 and gotten my hands done there as well... would have saved me time, which is really worth more than money some days... read more

She did a great job; was relatively painless and was pretty quick. She was also very nice. I've gone to this salon for multiple types of services. The only reason I still come here is for the eyebrow wax. They usually do a good job on the shape, HOWEVER, last time they left half the wax chilling on my eyebrow and I had to go back and ask them to remove the chunks of sticky wax off my eyebrow..... DO NOT get any kind of acrylic nail done here. Not only is the salon is dirty, and they do not understand how to do any kind of shape besides the classic square. RUDE! The reception manager, aka Pimp, screamed and barked orders the whole time I was there. Very uncomfortable. Had a mani/pedi and they did not do a good job. My nails were hardly cut and they look as if a child put on the polish. Speaking of polish..the bottles all looked old and thick. I asked for additional colors and she took out a new bottle, wiped the top with acetone and then when I didn't like it, put it back on the shelf for sale! The polish was really thick and lasted only 1 day. My pedi was also awful. I cringed when I put my feet in the tub because it looked so dirty. I asked to trim my toenails and they were cut so low that one started to bleed. When I asked for a tissue to stop the bleeding, I was told to "get over it" With so many nail salons around, I see no reason to go someplace that is dirty and where I am treated rudely! read more

I told her to stop because it hurt. Obviously, if I wanted that method to be done I could have soaked my nails in nail polish remover and done that at home.
