I went to Modern Nails for SNS nails and the technician/Tina cut my thumb to shreds (see pics). As this was the first time for Tina to do my nails I noticed that she handled my hands very roughly and attempted to clean up under my thumb using a drill and tore the skin up causing it to bleed. She then administered anticeptic and the picked up clippers in her hand in an attempt to clip off the excess skin, when I told her to stop and said "no more cutting". She finished with my top coat and I told her in my 25 years of getting my nails done this was a first and that I was very upset and bit shaken. She replied that I had very sensitive skin (which has never been the case). I was offered no apology or discount until I called back to reiterate my disgust and expressed that I was experiencing pain in my thumb. Tina then offer me 50% off my next manicure, which felt was presumptuous and dismissive. This was on a Friday, and my thumb [although improved (treated with hydrogene peroxide, bactine and neosporin)], but remains sore and it is Monday. Also noteworthy was Tina clipping her own nails (as my nails dried) which I felt was unsanitary, unsightly & unprofessional. I will close by saying that I do not write this review lightly, but was struck by the lack of customer service, and standards that I had come to expect in previous visits with other technians. This was not the case for me, this time. read more

I realllly wanted to like this little place because it's close to where I live and the prices seemed typical of the local shops-Also because they actually kept my appointment. But the tools were not clean, the gel fill is so thin it will not last 2 weeks, and the paint job is the sloppiest thing of life. I 100% could've painted them better myself. He put no less then 8 coats on my nails. Obviously, the quality of the paint cannot be that great if you need that many layers. Also, when you put that many layers it makes it much easier to peel off because it is thick. You better believe the moment that it starts peeling, I will go back in and ask them to fix it and I won't be paying for the fix either. read more

3 days ago my friend and co-worker took me here for my very 1st "professional manicure"...It was PATHETIC. I'll have to go back to have the gel manicure removed, after that I'm done and do not recommend them. My friend is a bit of a regular here because its close. I am URGING her to switch salons asap! Smh. Let me explain...Ladies, this place is BASIC: . They don't do 3D Nail art, not even a single rhinestone. . They don't have patterns or stickers. I make better designs at home with a dollar store deco kit. When I came home and showed my fiancee my nails even HE was disappointed. Luckily I was treated to this mani. I would have walked out if I was the one paying. The unfriendly atmosphere, lack of selection, and limited skills of the manicurist are NOT WORTH IT. Furthermore, Let me explain... . Customer service is pathetic/non-existent. My manicurist did not greet me or smile at all. She doesn't listen, ignores questions, and did not explain the process at all. She was also texting and checking her phone (UNbelievable). My technician rushed me to pick my colors and gave me something I did not ask for. When she whipped out those scissors to cut my cuticles I was all the way on edge, I would have protested if I hadn't spent time watching YouTube videos the day before to know what to expect when getting a mani. That part went well and when she applied lotion to my hands at the very end it actually felt good but that's it. Everything else sucked. . My friend and I were separated 2 or 3 tables apart despite the fact we came together and were the only 2 getting our nails done. So, no GirlTalk chitchat, just an awkward boring experience with a tired employee preoccupied with clocking out and texting. .Through my own effort as a friendly person I was able to get her to talk. She told me she's been painting nails for 10 YEARS, yet she couldn't paint a flower on my nail??? And she's charging me $5 for a flower and $5 for glitter? Ontop of what my friend was already treating me to? The flower she wants extra money for is an ELEMENTARY 5 dot you make with a spaghetti stick in 4th grade! It did not even maintain shape during the drying process. Lint was cured onto my nail and an airbubble on my right-hand middle fingernail. (Attaching photos). She also scratched up the entire surface of my nails in every which direction when she buffed them before painting. It was horrid you all. I thought this would be fun. I came PREPARED with reference photos and everything for exactly what I wanted, only to be told they don't have this and can't do that. I was disappointed but still optimistic so I chose a much simpler design (I'll be attaching photos so you can see exactly what I mean). The manicurist rushed me the whole time picking my colors and didnt even bring back the right ones. What I got was not even REMOTELY close to what I showed her and she wouldn't listen to me during the manicure. Not to be confrontational I let her go ahead and do what she wanted and swore to myself I'll never come back and I sure as heck won't. If I'm going to expose my skin to UV light and risk skin CANCER I better darn well get a smile and what I asked for! GO ELSEWHERE! You deserve it. read more

Modern Nails - Tried Tina's acrylic ombré instead of my old fav french manicure. Tina is skilled, wonderful to talk with and rocks a relaxing pedi too! - Nail Salons Near Me - Gaithersburg, Maryland

I've been here a few times, and this time is my very last! I waited over 2 hours to get serviced. I was being very generous and patient today! Like, seriously. I was told to just sit in the chair to get my pedicure. My feet were in the water and then I told them that I need to soak off my gel polish from my toes... which already times some time...instead of having someone do something quickly, the lady says " hunny, 5 mins" then I had to wait to get my toes soaked off...the lady took even longer, so I got up ready to leave and then all the employees were trying to convince me to stay and I did... because I really needed a pedicure, but NEVER AGAIN! Please save your money and go else where. The service is trash. The quality of time is "EH!" She had to keep taking off my toe nail polish because she couldn't paint them properly. Go somewhere else, somewhere that actually cares about their customers and time! read more

While the hubs was getting a massage, my footsies were in dire need of maintenance. I normally do this on my own but since he was treating himself, i thought i deserved a treat too! This was the closest nail salon that i could find and they accepted walk ins. I forgot the name of the guy who did my pedicure but he was fantastic. Before we started, i told him i was really ticklish so he was gentle with my feet. Their pedicures include a small foot rub which felt really nice. Overall, as this was a spur of the moment decision, i was happy with the end result. My feet feel super soft and they no longer look hideous! Pricing is not bad either. You cannot add gratuity to your credit card so be sure to have some cash on hand. read more

I used to come here specifically for this lady with short hair - Her name was Judy. She was the best pedicurist ever! She was so detailed with the pedicure, took her time with every nail and my pedicure by her lasted longer than others. She painted my nails perfectly each time. Judy's awesome!! I had to call for appointments. read more

I came here on New year's I must say I enjoyed my experience. The nail salon I usually.go to we're closed due to the holidays they got closed earlier than usual. I called and suprisingly they were opened! I rushed to get over there quickly because they were closing in 30 minutes. They told me I can come in with my friend to get our services done because I told them my friend also wanted a manicure . They told me it was ok. Tina and the other lady did a nice job on my.pedicure. Friendly. technicians. I did the candle wax it felt really.good on my feet. read more

Not really sure why this place has bad reps because it was an amazing experience for me! The lady doing my nails was so sweet and she constantly made conversation with me and always asked for my opinion. She was extremely innovative and mixed colors and when she wasn't satisfied she redid them. She genuinely cares which isn't seen in a lot of nail places. I am definitely coming back here soon! read more

I got a manicure, pedicure, and a facial done in this salon. While the Mani, pedi were ok not great, the facial sucked. Tammy the employee could not find the steamer to do a complete facial. She kept looking for it for over 20 minutes. This is after the appointment was made a day in advance. The room was dirty, no air circulation, and the woman had very bad breath. She kept telling me that she was using very expensive creams. My reaction was soooo, you are not doing me a favor I am paying for this facial. Tammy rushes thru the mani and pedi and when you tell her the nail is not rounded she will say It's Okay - one square and one round. I will definitely not get a facial done here. Maybe a pedi, and mani but not with Tammy. read more

Great service and experience. Great prices and polish selection. They have all the new colors. The pedicure chairs were awesome and relaxing. Plus they had the Food Network on! Amy was my technician and she was sweet and funny. We chatted quite a bit which made the time go faster. I got a pedicure and gel manicure. She took her time working on my summer/pool feet. Loved the color are help he chose. The foot/leg massage was on point. I selected one of their new gel colors and she really took her time to make sure the gel set and the nails were on point. Great experience! The place was clean and quite busy for a Saturday so I was lucky they accommodated me as a walk-in. I'll definitely be going back. Ask for Amy! read more

Absolutely the WORST experience in my life!!! My husband got me a gift certificate so I went. Stay FAR AWAY from the balding woman, you will know her when u see her!!! She was so rude and gave the worst service ever. I walked in so excited because I never treat myself and walked out so upset. Only after she did my pedicure she proceeds to tell me the polish is so old it won't stay long so pick a different color for my nails. She BUTCHERED my eyebrows. They were completely uneven with tons of stray hairs. And denied them being uneven and got mad at me when I asked her to please fix them. I wasn't rude even after all that however I will NEVER go back there. My mother in law had a horrible experience there years ago so after mine, I fully believe this place should not be in business. Not to mention how incredibly unsanitary it was seeing manicurist pick their nose and touch a customer. read more

I decided to treat myself to a mani-pedi and the sign on the window said walk-ins accepted, so I dropped in. I paid $36 for the mani-pedi and she did a good job on my feet but my fingernails turned out a little sloppy. It seemed like she was rushing to finish before the shop closed at 7 pm and unfortunately it showed. I might go back because the location is so close to home, but I'd go earlier to leave plenty of time to get everything done well. read more

I have been coming to modern nails for as long as I can remember. Kim, Vee and Nam are usually my go to people. Every time I walk in I am greeted warmly by everyone. The prices are phenomenal and they are so attentive to detail. I had an ingrown nail that had been bothering me for a while but with Kim and Dan's help its gone and I havent had any pain since! Absolutely love this place :) read more

It's not easy finding the perfect nail salon to get pampered. This place is the best! Every nail technician is friendly and attentive. Plus, when I get gel on my nails at last more than two weeks. When I go to any other places it only lasted a week and a half. read more

Nice people but the quality of the nails are not up to par. The place is also very dirty and smelled like cigarettes. The prices are reasonable but I had to come back again to get my nails fixed... read more

I love them! Courteous, good about their appointments, and very customer service oriented. Def check them out!

I've been coming here for a couple of years and on all but one occasion, which has to do with a specific manicurist/pedicurist, was really happy with how my nails came out. I don't make an appointment and get someone different almost every time, but all but one of the people there are very careful and take their time with your nails. My toes last for many weeks, while fingernails just under one - but that's because I use my hands a lot for dishwashing, etc. $36 for mani/pedi is not unreasonable, and you get a comfortable massage chair to sit in while getting your toes done. read more

JUDY is THE BEST pedicurist around!!! I have gone to this salon for years just because she is so wonderful. She does massage therapy and she uses those techniques when doing your pedicure. I also LOVE my manicurist, Lisa has been doing my acrylic nails for over 10 years and I am addicted to her flawless fill-ins. I have tried many different places when I just needed to hurry in without an appt. and I have always been disappointed with the work and care they give my nails. I totally recommend this salon! They also do waxing and believe it or not, I have never felt pain when V does my bikini waxing...not sure why but it is GREAT!!!! read more

My girlfriend and I went to Modern Nail to get pedicures and the experience was decent enough. There was a rough start, but it went uphill as we went and in the end, it was worth the $25 we spent each. When we arrived, I noticed that there wasn't a pungent smell that many salons have, something a mix between chemical cleaners. It was pleasant enough to look at, and the chairs were moderately comfortable. The "speed" function on my massage chair was broken, but all of the other operations worked fine. I don't love massage chairs to begin with, but this one did ok. However, when they started the foot baths, my water was much hotter than I wanted, and the staff assumed that everyone wanted scalding water. When I mentioned it, one employee insisted that I just get used to the water instead of adding cold water. I thought she was rude and fortunately she didn't do either of our pedicures. From there, the service was fine, and they did a good job on both of our feet. They did make my girlfriend's big toe bleed a little while cleaning out the sides, but otherwise they did a good job with the massage and cleaning. My girlfriend did notice one feature: the "sterilized" equipment came in those sterile bags, but since she works in a dentist office and sterilizes equipment all day, she noticed that the marking on the back, a brown stripe, didn't color in and therefore the tools were perhaps cleaned but not sterile. This bothered us both, but we let it go. Overall not bad at all for the price, but they could definitely make some improvements. read more

They did good job. The tools came out of a sanitizer but the whole place is very dirty and run down. It was also dead quiet in there. No music or anything, kind of unnerving. Prices were as expected. read more

STAY AWAY! My daughter went for a manicure and pedicure with Judy last Tuesday and is now dealing with an infection to her toe nail. She is now on antibiotics and may need to have her toe nail removed by a doctor since the infection is not going away. If I could give this place a negative five star rating I would. read more

I like this place. Tammy and Kim have been my favorite. The smell doesn't have the overly powerful acrylic nail smell. And if you see something you don't like just tell them they'll make the adjustments. Like like like. read more

Dan is the best manicurist I've had yet. I book with him every chance I can get to have my nails done. Even though I've moved about 25 miles out of the area, I still make it a point to drive up and have him do my nails. He knows exactly how I like them done and the exact color I go with. Other salons I've been to don't do my nails the way I like, so why bother jumping from salon to salon when I can go back to a place with a nail tech that knows exactly how I like my nails done? Thanks, Dan! read more

I went here the other day because I really needed my nails done. They hadn't been done in a while and I decided here because it was close. I walked in and the nail tech was kind to help me find the color I was hoping for. The service was okay. She didn't talk much but I enjoyed that I could zone out. The location is a tight spot for parking and it could definitely be cleaned up. A lot of the tools look old. Also when i for home I noticed the nail polish had not been complete, there were pockets where there wasn't enough color. And some acrylic stuck under my nail instead of being trimmed off. Probably won't go back. read more

Make Appointments If you can ! Especially with Sandra. She takes her time and it definitely shows.. My pedi and manis last 3-4 weeks with her. When it comes to designs and eyebrows Vee is the best!! read more

Horrible place. The lady that was doing my nails was constantly on her phone not paying attention, she was looking at her receipt book in the middle of filing my finger nails and abruptly left without saying anything for 19 minutes of my time. Their nail tools were very dirty she just wiped them a towel. I asked for a manicure and she put the soap water on her desk but never told me to put my hands in it. She even forgot to paint one of my fingernails which I had to remind her of. This place doesn't even deserve a 1 star, never make the mistake of coming here. read more
