Amazing nail salon with great service and fair prices! this salon is a great and very clean 2-woman operation that feels more intimate and not rushed. My girl made my cuticles bleed! I don't know who it was I told her but she just said yeah yeah I know! I said I had to wash my hands and soap and water and stop the Bleeding . It is a big deal because I have diabetes and my doctor hates the salons. He told me too much bacteria for open skin for a diabetic. This place is located on the 2nd floor, above Salon Red, up a narrow stairwell. I walked in on a Saturday morning and there were only 2 staff members and 3 clients inside: One was getting her eyebrows waxed, the other was about to start a manicure while the 3rd was sitting by the door with foil covering the tips of her fingers. The place had a clean, minimalist feel to it and could easily be mistaken for a one bedroom apartment, It was very quiet... a little too quiet. Where was the rest of the staff? Surely there had to be more people working here on a weekend. I asked about pedicure service and if/when someone would be available to do mine. One of the shop employees politely but nonchalantly replied that, "No one will be available for a looooong time." No recommendation to make an appointment or come back at a certain time. Nothing. As stated in other reviews, Tip-Toe Nail Salon is above Salon Red but it's not too hard to find. Enter Salon Red and take the stairs up a floor. If you get lost, just call and you Jessica or Katrina can help you. Two friends and I came a month ago to get pedicures. Jessica and Katrina were really nice and did a wonderful job! My nails still look as glossy as the day I had them painted! They scrubbed off the harder parts of your feet, gently massage them, and moisturize afterwards. My friends thought the lotion felt a bit greasy but I was fine with it. You can also turn on the massage chair for an even nicer experience. What I especially love about this place is how sanitary they are. The tools get put in a blue sanitizing solution after being used on you. Also, between pedicures, they wash the drain cap to the foot rub and switch out the disposable plastic cap. If you don't wear open toed shoes, they'll open a pack of disposable foam slippers for you to wear while our nails dry. For $30, it's definitely worth the service. Next time I get a pedicure, I'll get the manicure with it. I'm in love with this place! read more

I had originally came in for a normal acrylic but instead opted to do the pink and white acrylic, although it is a bit pricey I do not regret it whatsoever. I had been following these women, Jessica and Katrina from one salon to another because of their ability to give fabulous manicures and pedicures. Now that they have their own salon there is even more aspects that set them apart from the competition. I am very attentive to cleanliness and so are they. Every client has sterilized equipment and the pedicure "tubs" have disposable liners. It is a calm and welcoming environment. It is rare these days to find a quiet and relaxing environment for a nail salon. I resisted the online scheduling (and they did not object ) but once I adapted I realized how convenient it was for ME. They are competent, organized and professional. This was the most organized (and therefore calm) manicure experience I've ever had. Since everything is by appointment, I believe there will not be more than two people in the salon at a time. This makes for a quiet and relaxing atmosphere.. pleasantly intimate is how I would describe it. Jessica was very friendly and welcoming. I got a little lost on my way there and called her. I tried out Tip-Toe after reading the wonderful reviews about it on Yelp. I brought my mom who was in town visiting and also my brand new week old baby in his carrier. I made the appointment by texting back and forth with Jessica who was SO helpful and wonderful! The salon is UPSTAIRS of salon red - unfortunately there is no outdoor sign, so we had a bit of difficulty finding the place, but Jessica helped us locate it :) The salon is gorgeous and quiet. Completely clean and well taken care of. It was just Jessica there that day and just my mother and I in the whole salon. There was nice background music and plenty of room for us and my son in his carrier. Jessica did my gel mani as well as my moms pedi at the same time - I got wrapped and waited while my mom got her pedi done. She did wonderful, so kind and really took her time on both of us :) I loved being able to actually chat back and forth with my manicurist, really allowed us to bond rather than just sit back in silence, or worse sit back while the manicurists talk in their foreign language. It's been 2 weeks (tomorrow) and my nails still look wonderful. My mothers pedi came out awesome, she chose OPI so the color will stay awhile!! Yes, yes, yes!!! After about an hour of searching yelp for a good place to go, I decided to give this place a try. Katrina gave me a pedicure and it was great. My feet tend to get pretty rough and worn from wearing heels all week. Katrina used a razor to get all the roughness off, used a scrub and then went back over my feet with a scrubber. When it came time for the lotion, she spent a good 3 minutes per foot giving me an amazing foot massage. Once again, due to wearing heels all week, this is something I always look for when getting a pedicure. I feel so relaxed and recharged. All for $30. The salon is small and quiet which makes for a nice, personalized experience. I texted the owner to make my appointment but you can book online too. First, I hate giving this business 3 stars because their customer service is outstanding and they really go above and beyond to make your experience good but I have to say I was not too impressed by the pedicure. Just recently I came back from a vacation and heels felt like sandpaper. I saw the amazing reviews and decided to give them a try. My heels still feel like sandpaper which has never happened after a pedicure before. That's the only part I didnt like. Oh and a day after the manicure my cuticles started showing up which usually never happens. Overall the service was great. They promptly get you the first available appointment. One thing I cant stand about nail salons is the lame small talk, I dont go to salons to talk about my love life or to "chat it up". I have to say, in my one hour there, both sisters were extremely polite and let us be. They didnt try to strike up conversations and focused on their work. This is what I consider a true relaxing experience. THis is by far my favorite nail salon in the area. After trying many salons, I finally was told by two friends about the cleanliness and professionalism of the two sisters. They use a plastic cover in the foot tub and they sanitize all equipment. That is my number 1 priority. Second comes the way my nails turn out in the end. I felt compelled to update my review because I have come to love going Tip Toe Nails more NOW than I did years ago. Jessica and Katrina are both wonderful. You can tell they care about their client's satisfaction and will do anything to ensure you walk out nothing but happy with the service you received. I have always been satisfied with all my manicures and pedicures. One time my nail broke and was about to rip off, but Katrina and Jessica allowed me to come up for a quick fix up so the nail could be saved. This just shows how much they care about their clients, even if they're not making money off of a favor. Before I go on with my review please look at the photos and just guess how many days apart they are! Now I wanna start off by saying that before I came here, I had pretty much given up on nail salons in this area because most of them can't do nails to begin with and if they can they are plain rude or just both! So when I looked on yelp one last time for an even halfway decent nail salon close by and saw Tip Toe Nail Salon had FIVE STARS, I immediately saw about making an appointment. Luckily I got one for the next day (last Friday, Dec 29th). I made an appointment with Jessica, the owner, for 4:45 pm -- I was coming straight from work and when I got to the location there was no sign for the salon. No biggy, but I walked around the back of Whole Foods just to end up back at the salon they share the building with. I asked the receptionist if she knew where Tip Toe Nail Salon was and told me they were upstairs. I get there around 4:49 at the latest because mind you, there was no sign on the building. That's not where the issue begins though. I walked in and Jessica was working on another client but still greeted me and asked how I was doing, ALREADY showing me that maybe I finally found the perfect place because other places in this area barely acknowledge someone coming in. Anyway, I sit and look through gel polishes when Katrina tells me she's ready for me... mind you I scheduled an appointment with Jessica. This wasn't a big deal to me though because I didn't see any bad reviews towards either of them. I show her these nails I wanted for her to use as an inspo (which I attached to this review as well) and we couldn't find a green similar enough so I settled for my signature single sparkle nail and an army green gel polish. We had a bit of a conversation which again was rare for me cause every salon I've been to in Gaithersburg is full of antisocial rude individuals. She was very nice and was already doing a wonderful job on the coffin shape which , you already guessed, a rare occurrence. I did notice that (mind you this was a new full set not a fill in) she didn't get close to my cuticles and I already looked like I needed a fill but I didn't think too much of it cause like I said, people in this area cannot do nails, and it still looked a lot better than other nails I've had done before. We moved on to my pedicure which was amazing and honestly the best I've ever had, I will give her that. If I were to ever return (which I won't) I would just get a pedicure. Now y'all are probably thinking, so what's the issue? Well on my left hand the sparkle nail is significantly shorter than the one of my right hand. Again, not a big deal cause most people wouldn't notice but I did and I'm a bit of a perfectionist. Mind you I didn't notice this until my pedicure was almost done so I decided to just let it go. Then New Year's Eve comes around. I'm having a good time, a couple things happen and my pointer finger nail on my right hand, breaks -- my fault, I was having too much fun. So I disregard that. BUT then I start to notice my nails are already looking as if they've been done for 2 weeks!!!! I go back to work yesterday, Tuesday January 2nd. I pushing in my chair at my desk GENTLY as I was leaving for the day (bc I was still getting used to having acrylics again) and I looked down... MY PINKY NAIL IS BROKEN OFF IN THE BACK OF THE FUCKING CHAIR. REALLY!?! Now granted, my real nail underneath was very short so it was bond to break eventually, but in 4/5 days !? HUH!? At this point I knew I wanted to write a review, but I didn't want to make a big deal out of it until TODAY. I just got home , looked down at my nails and my middle finger?? GONE. If I had done something for it to break, I would've felt it. But who knows when this nail even came off ?? Bottom line, I'm highly disappointed. I thought I found a place that would finally be my regular but instead I paid for something so mediocre and O V E R P R I C E D and I tipped 20% because Katrina was so sweet! $102 gone and wasted!!!! I will NOT be coming back. I am not asking for anything, but y'all, be aware. They are very nice ladies but at the end of the day my nails look like shit less than a week later and I've paid 60% less for nails that lasted for 4 weeks before, even though my nails were still growing normally (when I was in school in Bmore)!!!!! I hate that I possibly ruined their 5 star rating but honestly I had to say something. I wasted so much money on something that I'm getting removed ASAP. The best nail salon I've used and go there every 3 weeks. Jessica is fabulous! My feet are very sensitive and I get ingrown toenails which is very painful. She is so careful. And does her work carefully and professionally. She stopped me from getting acrylics because the former salon I was using was ripping me off! She started just doing gel and it lasts sometimes for 3 weeks. I like to the atmosphere. It's private, quiet, and on weekends no walking-ins because she's fully booked. Ever since I started coming here a couple months ago, I have been hooked. I literally go just because, not even when I need a mani pedi. I LOVE Katrina. She does amazing work, and I have to admit, I am not the best about maintaining my cuticles, moisturizing or anything else that I should be doing.I book all my apointments via text, which is also a huge plus for me. The place is small and a bit difficult to find, but I don't mind, because I'd rather not share :). I've had the occasion to text after a manicure to find the name of the nail polish used because I chipped a nail, completely my fault because I'm a total clutz and she insisted I come by and let her fix it. When I declined because I knew I'd only mess it up again before my party, she insisted I stop by to take their bottle of polish. Who even does that??? I love this place and even when I leave the Kentlands, I will definitely come back just for my regular mani/pedis. In all my years of attempting to find a salon that could consistently provide good service, I have never been as happy as I am here. And I can honestly say that I've tried everything between Germantown and DC. Oh and please, don't be ignorant. Even if you've never been here before, you should know better than to show up unannounced.
