I had an appointment with Tammy at 11 but when I got there she hadn't arrived. Another tech started to soak off my nails while I waited which was about 20 minutes until Tammy arrived. I got SnS done and they usually last me about 3 weeks at my usual place so I was very nervous to try another location. So far it's been about a week and a half and it's going well! I will post an update once more time has passed. This place is a prime example of what great customer service should be like. I usually get my nails done in North Carolina but decided to come to Top Nails since I was home visiting my parents in Maryland. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by Fred's friendly smile that radiated around him. I came in without an appointment and was sat down immediately. Fred was very detailed with the cuticle cleanup yet remained gentle. He asked me multiple times if the length was good enough. When customers walked in while he was working on my nails, I thought as others do, that he would hurry through my nails. I was surprised at how he continued to take his time and still make friendly conversation. The only reason I am not giving this place 5 stars is because some of the gel on two fingers doesn't come to the base of my nail. However, it is a great gel mani with amazing customer service that made up for a small mistake. Pro tip, call in advanced to ask to be put down or to ask for how long the wait is. This was the worst experience of my life. I went in for an acrylic full set and my nail tech was very rude and dismissive. He made my cuticles bleed as well as made the side of my nails burn from the file/heat; it was poor execution. After that I realized that I did not like the color and asked for it to be changed. When that happened, they automatically charge me for a $10 fee and I refuse to pay it. They would not just let me change it even though we only take five minutes. I'm very disappointed and will never be coming back here ever again the service was terrible and I do not recommend to a friend or even an enemy. I repeat this was the worst experience of my life. I've been getting my nails done here for the last 2 years - everyone that works here is extremely friendly and they take their time to get your nails exactly the way you want them. For starters, I always dread going to the nail salon because I have thick eyebrows and I know someone's gonna take one look at them and ask me if I'd like to get them waxed. I remember the first time I ever went to Top Nails because while Tommy was doing my nails, he looked up and told me I had really great eyebrows. Tommy is super great at flattering you while he works, and it's crazy how one comment can really stick with you. Tommy is my go-to for acrylics since he's really great with keeping your nails THIN and he's a pro at shaping them however you want (I've tried coffin, stiletto, almond - you name it). I normally don't like to write bad reviews unless it's really, really bad, but I felt the need to write this based on the salon's lack of interest in fulfilling a customer's needs and more about making a couple extra bucks. I walked in for the first time based on reviews for a gel mani. I explained to the technician that I was trying to grow my natural nails out after having acrylics for many many years. I let her know that although my nails were thin and ridged from the acrylics, that the gel polish seemed to help with growth - I had gotten a gel mani at another salon prior to here and could see growth so wanted to continue. She suggested that during the mani she also use a product called SNS. She said my nails would get stronger with this product and take the rigidness away. I asked her if this would require her to use the electrical buffer since I know that this too thins your nails out and she said no. I reluctantly agreed based on her recommendation. She ended up using the electric buffer anyway after applying the SNS dip powder - there went whatever little layer of nail I had been trying to grow out. She never did a mani, just dipped the nails in SNS and buffed them out. The end result looked horrible. My nails look thick, the polish is messy and my nails although appear to look thicker from product, still look rigged and bumpy through the polish. I haven't taken it off because it caused me $45 unfortunately. Although the tech was nice, her focus was obviously on making an extra dollar rather than listening to her customer's needs. I now need to soak this SNS product off or have it buffed off which will set my whole nail growing process back. As a professional tech, I'm sure she knew this when suggesting this product, but just didn't care since it's more expensive than what I went in there for - a gel mani. Several times during the process, she also recommended eyebrows and pedi. Typical for salons in this area, but further supports my claim. Not the best sales approach for new customers or any customer that matter. Anyhoo, I won't be going back. My nails look like a 10 year old's and she knew it. So disappointed! read more

I usually get a full set every once in a while and I take them off after two weeks because I don't like how they look. My friend recommended this place so today I went in for a full set by tommy and he did an amazing job! He listened to what I wanted. I liked how he had different nail shapes at his station to pick from. Tommy gave me exactly what I wanted. He would ask me if the shape was okay, the length..etc. He let me know that he wanted me to be happy with my nails and I am! I am giving it two stars because a nail technician that was doing my nails left because he didn't know how to do designs and went home. The older female technician who took over to do my nail designs was VERY rude. She was rushing and being condescending. If someone is having a rude tone back I'm going to be rude back. That day I only need a fill in done on me with clear nail polish for work and the price reflected what i requested it cost about $20 plus tip. It's has about 8 to 10 manicuring station and maybe 5 pedicure chairs available also, they have 2 or 3 waxing room where they conduct facial for about $50 per hour i was told by one of the employee. I have been getting my nails done for 5 years (acrylics mostly) and was extremely disappointed with Top Nails. I just moved back to Germantown after getting a certain design on my nails for the past 2 years. I approached the owners one night and showed them my nails, asking if I came in could they do that design. They said yes of course, so I came in to get the current design taken off, a fill, and then the same design. It is an airbrush design in an argyle pattern. Turns out they do not even use their airbrush machine anymore.. so they talked me into getting a hand design, which was a LOT extra for a design on each nail so I opted to get a design on one finger of each hand. I got the gel nails as well. I left, feeling okay about the new look, still sad that they couldnt do what they had originally said, but content. I did nothing unusual that night. Throughout the night, the gel nails were smudging off and and peeling off; they never dried. They looked disasterous and I was annoyed that I had got them done before going out only to look gross. My manager at work asked me what was going on with my nails and let me go on my break to drive 20 minutes back to ask them for a refund and to just remove the polish so I could leave. The guy at first told me he doesnt give refunds and offered me 7$ to cover the paint... (I paid $40 plus my time for all this!) and I told him that wasn't good. He offered for me to come the next morning (I couldn't and I lived so far away I just wanted my money back). He at first tried to blame me, asking what I had done the night before to mess them up. Finally after sitting there for like 45 minutes, they got the polish off, concluded it never dried because they applied the gel wrong, and I left, with blank nails and no refund. I WILL NOT BE BACK. Clearly they don't value their customer's time or money, or know how to apply gel polish. :( read more

From bear claws to popsicle toes. The pedicure (trimming, cuticles, cutting nails, etc) was great, but the exfoliation/pumicing was short of two minutes on each foot. If you've got calloused feet like you just walked to Bethlehem, well, you better Babyfoot before you get a pedicure. The manicure wasn't as good. While I shudder at the micro aggressions people wrote about nail technicians speaking their first language (shame on you), I will say that there was a language barrier conveying what I wanted: a slight trim of nails but keeping most of the length. What I got was a gentle filing on all of them, when some of them should have been clipped shorter. I asked for only clear polish and there were faint streaks of my former nail polish left. Although my nails came out well the service was lacking. There was 4 people working and only two people in the shop but I had to wait for my person (Ann) to finish her phone call on her cell phone. This took about 15 min. Then I had three fingers that had a little gel left on so they needed to soak it off. I started soaking my other hand in the water (which was freezing) while she wrapped my three fingers on my other hand to take off the gel. She then got up again for another 10min before returning. When she did return a woman walked in who I assume is a consistent customer because she wanted Ann to wax her eyebrows. The woman said she would come back when she was done with me but Ann said she would do her then. So she did and left me to sit again for another 10 min or so. Finally she starts working on my nails and keeps mentioning how short my nails are, as if it is was an inconvenience to her. Finally starting the gel she put the top coat and I put it under the light, two times. My mom had texted me and I used that hand that I just put under the light to text her back (it was a quick yes answer). Ann then said "oh my god" and instructed me "not to use my phone" because with gel I could mess them up. I have been getting gel manicures for years and never once has a employee told me not to use my phone. On top of all of this another employee was on her for phone speaking loudly for a solid 30min. Once I was done Ann told me that I could "use my phone now." My nails came out pretty nice but it wasn't worth the wait, the attitude about using my OWN phone, the constant loud chatter between employees across the shop, and personal phone calls being made on their cell phones. read more

This shop has been around since the 1990's. It's no secret why when you see the results. Don't let the simplicity of the decorations, or lack of, fool you. I have never had such care, patience, and detail spent on me anywhere else. There was a large enough staff that I could walk in on a Friday late afternoon and get seem right away. Tommy (gel nails) and Tammy (brows and lashes) were both very detail oriented and took their time to make sure everything was perfect. Best eyebrow wax ever. There was no pressure and I was encouraged to take my time picking a nail color. All the colors are painted on templates so you can hold them up to your nail to see what it will look like after it's dry. You tell them the color you want and they bring it to you. Went in 3 times, got acrylics tips 2 times and had an interesting encounter the 3rd time. 1st time - I called very late and last minute on a Saturday and they managed to squeeze me in. I asked for Tina since Kevin wasn't available and while she was a bit curt, she was very professional and I was pleased with my nails. She managed to mimic a picture I showed her and didn't charge extra for the design. I was very disappointed when my nail on my right index finger flew off on Monday but I decided it was a fluke and to give them another try. 2nd time - I was assigned to a pleasant but uncommunicative man. When I inquired further, I discovered he couldn't understand English and wasn't able to comprehend the nail length (shorter) or shape I wanted (oval/almond). The owner/mgr took over and finished the job and apologized for the confusion but what I would have appreciated more was a discount for the inconvenience. (If you're hiring people to serve customers, shouldn't the person be able to communicate with the customers?) My acrylics only lasted a week. 3rd time - I decided to give them 1 last chance and walked in on a Sunday morning hoping to squeeze in with Tina. She was very brusque and without even looking at me sternly informed me that she wouldn't see me, she was all booked and that I should talk to her co-worker. I had a pedicure at this salon, and I will not be going back. It was one of the first nice days of the season, so they were very busy. However, that does not excuse the slackness of their hygiene practices. The woman that did my feet very nearly used a razor on my callouses right after using it on someone else, without even dunking it in the blue stuff (which still wouldn't have been sanitary enough for me). I had to stop her and say no. I don't expect these kinds of nail shops to have outstanding hygiene, but this was too much for me.
