We hired Matt at Auto Critic to help evaluate a car we were buying. It was not a hugely expensive car - just a Civic - but still something we wanted to have peace of mind with. And Matt is the guy for peace of mind. He puts a level of detail and effort into his inspections that the others don't really come close to. On the car we were buying, pretty much everything was in order. There were $200 or so worth of small things that needed to be done, and the seller took care of those, which already will cover Matt's fee. Beyond that, we are glad to have that peace of mind in knowing that we are buying a car that has been looked after and is in the condition that it is claimed to be in. I had Matt check out a high end used car for me. His inspection was incredibly thorough and detailed. He used a paint gauge to detect where a scratch had been buffed out, but was able to tell me that it wasn't visible to the naked eye and that the quality of work was of such a high standard that it wasn't a significant concern. Matt sent pictures of every single flaw on the car, down to a crack in the plastic under-cladding. He tried to shoot video of where he'd found the paintwork, but as he'd said, it wasn't visible. His deliverable is a detailed checklist of all the items he inspected, their condition, and a Dropbox link of photo / video of the areas where he noticed flaws. They do a thorough job of inspecting every part of the vehicle they can get to and test driving it like they stole it! When purchasing a used vehicle for my kids I want to make sure we aren't getting into a money pit and that it is safe and sound. In May of 2015, we decided to get a cheap convertible for the summer. After looking through many websites we finally found one in Dallas, TX. Long distance buy from New York is usually a gamble. Because of natural disasters, I had concerns about buying Texas car online (a low-mileage BMW M3). Matt, who is the Auto Critic, resolved these concerns through providing a report of the vehicle that was as detailed as it was comprehensive. Had I taken vacation time from work, flown to Texas, and personally inspected the car there is no way I could have done so well as he did. Why? Matt is a professional. From the moment I called him, he was up-front with me. He was clear in communicating. He not only kept his appointment, but he finished the job three days ahead of his scheduled date. Buying a car is a large purchase for most people. And Matt's attention to detail gives this process the respect it deserves. His reports are in-depth. He takes photos. He has incredible knowledge of Mercedes and knew exactly what to look for that could be wrong with the car. I bought a car in 10/2016 and contemplated writing this but just finally had to. So I will start out with this,I live in South Florida and was in the market for a 2007 Porsche 911 Turbo. As for anyone would,I had a certain budget in mind and found a car located at Texas Auto Wholesale in Plano,Texas. The car was priced reasonably and after speaking with the salesman at the dealer I explained I would want a third party inspection performed and Blake (the salesman) happily recommended Auto Critic. After contacting them and speaking with Matt he seemed extremely cool and pleasant to deal with. I was able to schedule with the selling dealer the inspection and all in all it went as well as could be expected I guess since I bought the car given the report I was given. Keep this in mind for anyone reading this, Matt had made a comment to me before the inspection that he wasn't a heavy "picture taker" and was different than the other inspectors in the area since he believes all they do is take pics of the exterior and do not really know nor inspect the cars and I believed him. I am pretty anal when it comes to my cars and since I am buying a car in Texas and not seeing myself I am counting on the inspector to be pretty damm accurate and let me know before hand about prior paint work that has been done and any damages,both cosmetically and mechanically. Common sense right? Especially since I am buying a Porsche? Maybe not,I received a few pictures at most from Matt showing the coolant lines I asked him to check for me and he emailed me a list of some mechanical things needed which was appreciated and minor thank god. Let's just say he said he would measure the paint with a gauge,he obviously didn't do that and I asked specifically to have this done. He did say that the hood and left panels had been repainted and that he found no bondo or bodywork which I thought ok I can live with that since the carfax shows no accidents. When I got the car home let's just say he either missed a lot or was working with the dealer to push the sale through since there were multiple and very fundamental signs of paintwork and really bad paintwork also! Also the interior was not checked properly and explained either which pissed me off. Back panels scraped and worn door handles missing paint so on and so forth. I should have flown in and saw the car but I saw Matts ratings and after speaking with him I felt confident he was thoroughly going to inspect the car.. If you are out of state and going to use Matt do your self a huge favor and demand a lot of pictures of the car of the exterior and interior if you are picky like me or just want to know and have an accurate assessment of what you are potentially buying.
