I hate having to leave negative reviews, but I feel other consumers deserve to be warned. I brought my car to Sav-Mor Automotive because it was stalling while idling. They kept my car for two days and charged me $200 just to "run tests." After that, they told me I needed a start sensor, new spark plugs, and an engine carbon cleaning -- with a total estimate of over $1,300. I specifically asked them to tell me only what was necessary to get my car running properly. Their response was, "We can leave the spark plugs and it will still be $800 for the sensor and carbon cleaning." At that point, I felt extremely uncomfortable and pressured, and it seemed like I was being overcharged. I decided to get a second opinion from Elite Exhaust & Brake in Plano, and the difference was shocking. They quickly diagnosed the issue and fixed the problem by replacing the start sensor for $280 -- that's it. No upselling, no unnecessary work. Have been using this garage on and off 5+ years. Big mistake. Took my granddaughters VW Beetle in to get AAA DISCOUNT, but treated very abruptly. Engine light on and battery not charging. The mechanic tested alternator and stated it was defected and needed to be replaced. Told them it was about one year old and felt their diagnosis was in error. Then they wanted to do a thorough test for engine light. I said no thank you and went to another repair facility. They tightened gas cap and off went check engine light. Tested alternator and found it to be fine. Tested battery and determined bad cell and replaced battery. No hourly charge just the reasonable cost for the 3 yr warranty Bosch battery. In summation: I will not be using SavMor or any further work! I caution you as well. read more

I've heard good things about this shop generally speaking, but don't call them if you are a DIY mechanic with a brand new part from O'Reilly who finds you can't get to the installation without a lift. If O'Reilly brings them the part it's okay, but if I do it's a "warranty issue"? How so? I didn't buy the part from you so there is no implied or explicit warranty on the part from you. The only "warranty" would be on the labor to install the part. Apparently only "small, one-off shops" would do such a thing... You know, like Goodyear, who also said no coverage for the part of course, but were willing to do the labor. Don't know if this shop marks up their parts or not. If you aren't willing to install my part that's your right, but don't make it about a "warranty issue". That's a cop out. If it's shop policy just say so. If you don't want the hassle of the part possibly being wrong, say so. The false rationale may fly with joe the average driver, but to the rest of us it's a made up brush off. read more

Unfortunately, I recommend avoiding Sav-Mor Automotive. They were either incompetent, or dishonest when dealing with my issue. I tend to suspect just simple incompetence over dishonesty. I took my 2007 Toyota Camry in for an issue I was having where my dashboard gauges were only intermittently working. When they would cease working, the ABS and BRAKE lights would come on. Also, the air conditioning would stop working when this happened. This could happen anywhere from a few seconds to 15 minutes or more. Then suddenly everything would work. The ABS and BRAKE lights would go off, gauges (speedometer, odometer, tachometer) would begin working properly, and the A/C would begin working again. I also told them that lately it also seemed like when the A/C was working, it wasn't as cold as it should be. I did a lot of online research about this, and it is a well-known, somewhat notorious problem with Camrys of this model year. It is caused by a bad ABS module. I told all of this to Sav-Mor when I brought the car in. They seemed highly skeptical, but said they would check it out and diagnose it and let me know. So, then I got a call from them and they said it was actually caused by needing a new camshaft synchronizer, and that the A/C problem was unrelated and I needed a new A/C kit, and all of this would cost me about $3700 to fix! Needless to say, that is a significant portion of the value of a 2007 Camry, and I told them I would just come pick up the car. I decided I would replace the ABS module myself and see what happened. I bought a used ABS module on ebay for $35 and replaced it, and it has been working flawlessly for several months now. Oh, and I went to Wal-Mart and bought some A/C refrigerant, and it turns out the level was low and for a few bucks there I completely fixed the A/C issue as well. So, they were either grossly incompetent in their diagnosis of my car (for which I had the privilege of paying $75), or they tried to gouge me. In one sense, they did me a favor, cause I ended up fixing the problem myself for about $50. But I would stay far away from this place. read more

If I could rate them higher than 5 stars I would. I have been going to this shop for over 10 years and they are in my opinion the most professional technicians I have ever had work on my cars. Their level of detail, their meticulous approach to diagnosis and fault isolation to replace/fix only what is needed is impressive. I have always been given a fair price for the time their technicians spend on my vehicles. When other options on are on the table, I would never consider taking my cars anywhere else. I only know a couple of employees by name but, one of the technicians is top notch (Jeremy) another I think his title would be Service Writer/manager? We have taken our car in for auto work several times, and always received honest, affordable work and professional service. Moreover, recently I reached out to Tommy Welch, the owner, to see if he'd be willing to help me with a meeting for a group of young men who are involved with a local service organization. We were looking for an event/speaker that would be interesting and relevant for this group of 15-year-old/freshman aged boys and felt that some basic car care information would be perfect as they are all just starting to get their driver's permits. Tommy was more than willing to accommodate - even keeping his shop open and paying a couple of employees to stay late to work with the boys. They were able to get a thorough overview of basic car care and safety. Tommy and his staff spoke to them in a knowledgeable, age-appropriate manner. The folks here always take care of us. Had found some major problems with my aging Mustang. I knew something was wrong with it, but didn't know it was serious. I've always complained to my wife that it rides so rough and hurts my back on these crappy city concrete roads. Sav-Mor found that my wheel was loose and the tie rods were going bad, along with a shift seal (we have a standard transmission). TOTAL INCOMPETENCE !!! A After 3 days They couldn't diagnose my electrical issue (battery drain) . His excuse was "my electrical guru died in November" You think in that 6 month period they would have hired someone qualified to do electrical work - NO - You would also expect them to TELL you upfront that they have no one qualified to diagnose electrical issues - NO B They also had it an additional week to diagnose a serious engine problem which I expected bad news and was confirmed - I had agreed to pay $100 to have this diagnosis so that I would have a better idea if the car was salvageable ... I arrived today and gladly paid the $100... My car was parked on the side yard and I immediately noticed the rear drivers side window had been left open about 2 inches....with all the rain we've had the last few days of course the back floorboard was completely soaked ... Upon confronting the manager, Terry , he instantly shifted the blame to me for the window being down upon arrival which is total BS... EVEN IF I had left the window down you think these ass clowns would have noticed it and put it up - all the window switches work perfectly .... C After I got the car home, I noticed radiator fluid running out from under - a quick inspection and immediately noticed the hose from the overflow tank had been broken off at the radiator .... I'm not the kind of person to sit around and make this shit up ....WOW these guys are a TOTAL JOKE !!!!! He didnt even offer to refund my $100 - only to "vacuum the water out" and then had the GALL to say "FU" as I drove off disgusted.... I've been doing business here for almost 20 years and these guys are the best--hands down! They have never taken advantage of me as a woman--they have far too much integrity. Once my car was making the most ghastly sound and I took it back to the dealership where I'd recently purchased it. They gave me a $1,500 estimate and a really fishy story about what was wrong. I told them to pack it up, I was taking it to Sav-Mor, and they tried desperately to talk me out of driving it off the lot! Sav-Mor found that it was missing a 50 cent bushin (which they threw in for free), and Tommy apologized to me for having to charge me for 1/2 an hour's labor to replace it, "But, I gotta pay my guys!" So, I paid about $50. They could have charged me $500 and I would have thought I'd gotten a bargain and never known the difference, but that's just not how they operate! These are honest, good men! I send everyone I know to Sav-Mor -- my father started going there and loved it! Even if it is out of your way, it is SO worth the peace of mind knowing you are getting a straight answer, quality work, and paying a fair price. They stand by their work, too. I went in for an inspection in my 1985 bmw and they were extremely unprofessional. The mechanics were obviously not competent with older vehicles. There are plenty of other shops around that give quality service, so there is no need to waste your time here. They failed my safety inspection, so i took my car elsewhere and it got passed with no issues. I would highly suggest finding another shop to take your car to. read more

I went to this place in August to have work done on my emissions for my Ford. I found this business on a list that was given to me by Air Check Texas. I had a voucher to repair the emissions. So I make an appointment to have them look at it and fix the problem. I explain to them that the guy who inspected it for me to me to drive my car for more than 50 miles or so because the computer was showing not ready. And so I did drive my car from Uptown Dallas to Mckinney round trip twice. I told the guy Sav Mor that I had followed the directions for the driving patterns for my car and that something else must be wrong. I tried to give them my voucher and also tried to leave the car with them so they could at least look at it. Do you know that they refused to take the car and do the check? One of the guys even told me that he wasn't gonna drive my car for me! I was so disappointed. They spoke to me like I was just a "lady" who could not understand shop talk. I'm so fed up with car repair guys who are like this. I in turn took the car to Allison's Auto repair around the corner. A guy named Scott there actually took my voucher and my car in for a look. He actually took the car in for what I needed to be done and actually examined the car. WOW! Sav Mor wouldn't do it! Anyway, he found that a fuse was out which was resetting the computer on my car every time I turned it off and on again. He replaced the fuse, and after that, even my radio worked again. He even fixed my sloppy shifter. (Oh he didn't tell me he did it and didn't even charge me for it, but I've driven manual-stick shift- cars since I was 16yrs old, and I could tell the shifting was a lot smoother than it was before in my car. What an angel!) Sav More could have at least tried to look at my car. I mean, they were listed on the Air Check voucher list. Really? They just sent me on my way. Very unprofessional. Do not use these guys. They damaged my car while working on it and refused to pay me the amount my auto dealer said it would take to get it fixed. They wanted me to take it to some small dinky body shop for repair, even though I have a custom paint color that needs a top quality paint facility to properly match the color. The manager Tommy was so unprofessional as to refuse to provide me with their insurance company so I could file with them instead of filing a claim with my insurance company so that I did not have to pay my own insurance company deductible, even though he admitted that they damaged my car. read more

Took my 08 wrangler in to get the e brake fixed so I could pass inspection. They told me there was a leak in my differential and that's why my e brake wasn't holding. Well, I'm not a complete idiot when it comes to cars and how things work. Talked to my dad about it and told him that it was BS and that doesn't make any sense. The e brake is on a cable that runs to the e brake handle in your car. Pulling up on the e brake puts tension on the cable and activates your brakes. Having any type of fluid or liquid on it would not hinder the e brake working. If that were the case, every time it rains all of our e brakes would go out. My dad insisted we got it fixed and so we did. E brake STILL didn't work. That's when I know that these guys were just trying to make a quick buck by lying. So I went back and told them it still wasn't working and they told me that the other part they needed just came in. Well no one told us that they were waiting on a part. They put the part in and the E brake still wasn't working. At that point I was so fed up with these people that we took it to a different mechanic and all he had to do was adjust the e brake cable. Ended up costing us about 150 bucks compared to 1200 we spent at sav mor getting the e brake "fixed". Thanks a lot for wasting my time and money. I will NEVER use sav mor again. They are a complete rip off and they will lie to you to make money. If you need any servicing done go to Marlow Automotive. Good honest guys that won't overcharge you for things you don't need. I have been a loyal customer for five years at Sav-Mor Automotive, but no more! About two years ago, my car would sporadically not start. I took it into them, and explained the issue and asked for them to call me with the diagnosis and repair cost before starting labor. After waiting forty-eight hours, I called them to find out that they "think" they have found the problem and had already fixed the issue. One month later, I was taking it back to them because it had failed to start again with same quirks as before. I have now taken it in a total five times for the same issue, and each time it has cost me $500-$600 to fix what they "think" is the problem. After investing $2,000 in my car for repairs it did not need, I am tired of wasting money and not having a reliable car. I will be taking my business and those I have referred to Sav-Mor-Auto to another repair shop that has trained repairman who know how to diagnose car problems correctly. read more
