I was on a vacation visiting the beautiful State of Lousiana. In my home State of California, we have one of the most authentic Vietnamese and Chinese foods all across the nation. On top of that influence, my father owned a Chinese restaurant for 30 years. With my familiarity with Chinese and Vietnamese food, I try to be fair at every restaurant I go to. It is very rare to see a conjoined Chinese/Vietnamese restaurant together. Let see how it goes!
Environment - 6.5/10 Rate
The environment itself was very appealing. Everything seemed very promising when I was welcomed in. Although, I immediately noticed some of the tables were unsanitary. The staffs were friendly, and I was very excited ordering from the menu!
Boy did I lose all impressions of Asian food in the State of Louisiana. Here's my verdict:
Seafood Chow Mein - 2/10 Rate
Chow mein is one of my favorite foods of all time. I order chow mein at every Chinese restaurant I go to. But this dish tore me inside-out. The noodles were so dried, It was like eating dehydrated potato chips. The flavor was very bland, the ingredients such as the shrimp and the broccoli were not fresh. Also, the portion was extremely low. It reminds me of buying chips, you're really buying half a bag of chips and half a bag of air. This was just terrible.
Sweet and Sour Shrimp - 1.5/10 Rate
The presentation and the colors of this dish looked promising. I froze as soon as I took my first bite; soggy on the outside and extremely dry on the inside. Seriously, what's with these dry ingredients? I know Lousiana gets hot and humid, but so does the food? Unreal.
Mongolian Beef - 3.5/10 Rate
Again, slightly dry. Although not as bad as the other dish. Also, why am I getting more onions and veggies than the meat? Are they trying to reserve meat? The portion is too low, you should've cut me a 50% discount since I was really consuming 50% of the portion.
Brocolli Chicken - 4/10 Rate
Dry, dry, dry. Slightly flavored. I still ate it, I guess.
Egg Rolls - 7/10 Rate
With the side of the serving sauce, it was the only thing I've proudly swallow. Moderately crunchy on the outside, somewhat adequate on the inside. I will give this egg roll a quiet applause.
Conclusion
I've never in my life had this poor quality of Chinese/Vietnamese food before. I'm not here to bombard this restaurant, just giving an honest feedback. I also don't have intentions to judge a restaurant by just eating there the first time. Maybe this day just happens to be a bad day in the kitchen for the staff. Yes, I will come back again to try a different dish. I hope for a better experience.
