The waiter came and took our order and the food came out quickly. There's a lunch special between 1-4pm, so we opted to try the beef cubes, fried chicken, fish, and kung pao chicken. It also comes with a gigantic egg roll filled with meat and veggies, a bowl of egg drop soup, and fried rice. It's a huge dish for a lunch special plate. Everything was delicious, but the kung pao dish and egg rolls didn't taste as authentic. We enjoyed our meal here and would come back and try different dishes next time. Came in for a casual dinner with two friends and we were excited to eat at the place my friend grew up going to. However, that same day - there was a huge party in a separate room. It took a while for our servers to find us and when our orders were put in it took over an hour to deliver two dishes. We had to remind them and ask them multiple times when our meal would come. We were met with the response that the large event would take priority over our meals. This wasn't my fav response because it just seemed that if you have an event going on, there would be other staff to take care of their food. The wait time was really disappointing. August Moon accepts phone orders, so I'm able to order before I arrive. They're always friendly whenever I call and come in. There's ample parking since their business hours superseded those of nearby businesses. I personally like dining there after a gym workout. It's always refreshing to have protein after a cardio session. I order so much they even know my name when I call. First time here but It was a good meal Egg drop soup, is silky and delicious. Smoothe butter creamy flavor. I normally add more so sauce for testing this before I put salt or pepper or soy sauce. I did add a few drops and This really good. I tried one of those work steam dumplings in a grabbed it was super tasty I recommend trying at least one dumpling in the egg drop soup. Soy sauce for me is great but this allows for a less salty alternative. I got the chicken low mein and it was cooked nicely a few pieces of chicken were chewy but over all the dish had good flavor and texture. I am not a mushroom person so next time I will need to remember to ask for no mushroom. They ingredient are stated on the menu that was my mistake. The mushroom were cooked to a good tenderness. Friend ordered the lunch Crispy Honey Chicken. I ate her salad, which had a delightful dressing. Our entrees came out at different times. My meal was huge and thankfully the fish sauce was on the side. It wasn't as strong as others I've had and was rather tasty. Overall I wasn't jazzed with my meal, but I couldn't put my finger on why. I don't visit this place often, but I know it's great for Vietnamese events. However, today I wanted to grab a late lunch here. I spent $40 for general Tao, pad Thai, and crab Rangoon. The order took 15 minutes to be made. General Tao 3/10 I went home excited to try out my food. I opened up the genera Tao and immediately was disheartened by how it looked. It did not look like your typical gen Tao. I proceeded to give it a taste. The sauce does not compare to even your average Chinese take out. I appreciate the medley of vegetables, but should just stick to broccoli. The chicken is great and not like your usual batter stuffer chicken. However, because lackluster sauce, this dish gets a 3/10 Pad Thai 2/10 I was really craving pad Thai. It's Sunday and all the good Thai places are closed. I settled for this and I regret it. The portion looked promising. The noodles looked perfect. I went in for the bite and was met with over powering peanut butter flavor. I don't care what shortcuts or tricks you use to adorn the peanut butter flavor. Normal pad Thai doesn't even have peanut butter in it. I could not even get through the next few bites. What you see in the photo was where I gave up. Customer service 0/10 I never return food I ordered, but the pad Thai was this bad that I had to muster up the strength to do so. I'm barely getting through the off putting general Tao, but I'm only calling for the pad Thai. I called the business and she asked me what was wrong. I told her my pad Thai tastes like someone put a big scoop of peanut butter in it. *gross. She proceeds to tell me pad Thai anywhere has peanut butter in it. I followed up to try to be nice as pad Thai everywhere does not put peanut butter in it and told her that I've had pad Thai everywhere and this is not it. She. Just. Hangs. Up. My husband and I come here 1-3 times a month. I decided to try their vermicelli with grilled beef. It was $12.95 and I think that is overpriced. But the beef is well flavored and the portion is perfect. The only suggestion for the restaurant is to julienne the cucumbers too (like the carrots). It's too thick for this mix-and-eat dish. There you could order the specialty of the house prepared one of 5 ways. With the help of our waiter we narrowed our choices down to 3. Twin lobster over noodles, in tamarind sauce or garlic and ginger sauce with scallions. The tamarind sauce was spicy and exquisite! Definite score. Dragon wing appy was also spot on. The kind of wings that u want to chew until all the crispy bits give up their gift of crunch and spice. I'm almost too fat to type. My eyes are still watering from the spices so I can't see the screen clearly. I'm confident my nose faucet will continue to run for an hour or so. My face, forearms, fingers, hands, mustache and beard are all still partially coated in sticky spicy tamarind sauce. It may be days and showers before I'm rid of the sauce remnants. If I die because of allergies to any ingredient please inscribe on my tombstone that it was worth it. I tend to drop the hammer hard on people who squander my dining dollar. This Westbank Chinese/Vietnamese place shares a name with an Uptown restaurant and has a very similar menu; obviously the two places are connected. There are some differences though. This Westbank establishment greets you with a larger and nicer dining area and an open kitchen. The menu offered lunch specials, and when I ordered one it included an entire plate full of crispy noodles with sweet dipping sauce, a soup or salad, and then an entree with an eggroll on the side and fried rice. Seeing the fried noodles, fried eggroll, and fried tofu, I asked for steamed rice and a salad to save myself a little bit; clearly we are catering to the Louisiana palate here. That being said, it was all delicious-notably the lemongrass tofu I ordered came with a tasty dipping sauce, and in total a huge amount of food for the money. I was a bit nervous when my busy-looking server mixed up my order and tried to bring me a soup. However, I did correctly get a vegetarian eggroll and brown rice with my dish, and this is one of a pretty finite number of places around here that specifies things that are vegetarian. She also mixed up my check, but I'm not one to rail over the little things; if anything it's probably a good sign that they're busy. So despite the slightly different experience compared to what I am used to in Uptown, the bottom line conclusion is the same: solid, vegetarian-friendly food with large portions. So many people waiting in the lobby and outside the restaurant. After paying, my food was brought outside to me within 5-10 minutes. The food was pretty good, I must say!
