    Stewed Beef Noodle Soup
    Sophia C.

This was surprisingly pretty good! Having traveled around the world and somehow always eating Chinese food no matter what country or state I'm in, there's been some highs and lows. This was honestly pretty decent even though it has an industrial hipster vibe. Aside from anime playing on a TV, and some food posters on the wall , I wouldn't think it was a Chinese food place. Most of us ordered the beef noodle soup and while the bowl looked small, it was packed with noodles and beef and we left pretty stuffed. Broth was decent and not too salty. My bro in law had the hot and sour soup and he said it was pretty tasty too. My only gripe, which made me dock a star, was the very sloooooow service.

Hot & Sour Soup crawfish dumplings

One of our favorite places in New Orleans. Dian Xin was a good combination of comfort food with unique twist. I enjoyed the shrimp and crawfish dumplings. I've never seen that before. They were huge dumplings I'm not used to seeing. The taste was great too. Hot n sour soup was a surprise. I have a general baseline for this type of soup as they can all taste the same but this one was a great balance of sour and savory. The soup itself is a meal in its own since it comes with a lot in it. Lastly, the jianbing was great. I haven't had one since I've been to Chicago, and this one was just as good as the one I found in Chinatown. The braised beef was tender and I loved the sweet sauce they put in it.

    Spicy Xiao Long Bao

Spicy Xiao Long Bao was delicious just as others claimed and the Crabmeat & Crawfish Bao was a must while in NOLA! Service was excellent and prices were reasonable

    Walnut Shrimp

Short walk from the trolley. Not much of space for seatings to hold a big group but I do notice they had lots of Togo orders when we were waiting for our food. Very attentive staffs. My 7 years old date decided on the ordering. We got the walnut shrimp with a side of rice, Xiao Long Bao (Soup Filled Pork Dumplings) and Crabmeat & Crawfish Bao (Dian Xin's take on the normal XLB...but with a New Orleans twist). My favorite between the two bao would be the crabmeat & crawfish. Everything was delicious. Like my nephew said, I give it a 10 star...lol

Phoenix Claws and JianBing (Chinese-style crepe)

Not sure how this place has a 4.4 rating--maybe because Chinese cuisine isn't as common in NOLA. Unfortunately, what completely killed my appetite was seeing a mouse scurry from where I was sitting into the middle of the restaurant. There were also a couple of flies buzzing around. The staff looked startled too, and although someone eventually removed the mouse, it took a few minutes. As for the food: the cold noodles were visually appealing and refreshing in the heat. The shrimp jianbing (Chinese-style crepe) was just okay--too heavy on the lettuce and hoisin sauce. The green beans were drenched in oyster sauce, and the phoenix claws (chicken feet) didn't meet the mark. The space felt small and dimly lit, and the food came out slowly, one dish at a time.

Chinese food in New Orleans? Located about two long blocks from our timeshare in the eastern section of the French Quarter farthest from Canal Street. The $14 six crabmeat & crawfish bao tasted like pork bao, with no hint of seafood taste. Other reviewers have mentioned this also. The $14 chicken eggplant went well, with the chicken drowning in a pool of garlic sauce just the way I wanted it. Ample large strips of chicken soaked in tasty garlic sauce. The $20 sizzling garlic shrimp was the highlight of the meal, with a dozen plus breaded shrimp over a bed of white onions. Could have eaten this without the rice, it was that good. Minimal ambiance and very loud. But the prices are lower too, as they have passed on the savings to the customer.

Lots of great choices here. Read the menu as it tells you how to eat the Xia Long Bao. For a blustery day, the Xia Long Bao and steamed Pork Bao were great choices. I also had the Peach Melon Green tea. My only complaint on the tea is that the pot leaks when you pour. It was a mess. Be extra careful and have extra napkins. My husband liked the Sesame Chicken and it was a large portion.

Good, authentic dim sum. Lots of options. A little off the beaten path, especially with construction, but worth the trip.

Ask the Community - Dian Xin

Do they offer delivery- their own service, uber eats, grubhub, etc.?

Yep. They deliver through Uber Eats and other services.

How is the parking for the restaurant?

Street parking. Might want to go on a non-busy quarter day

Are there gluten-free options? I've eaten here and love it, but I have a friend that has celiac's disease so asking for her. Thank you in advance!

I don't 100% know, but rice is gluten-free, as is rice noodles. If they thicken sauces with corn starch yes. So just use good sense

Does this restaurant serve Hot Pot?

Not that I am aware of.

Do they have a liquor license?

Yes, they have a liquor license

Rather than pursuing a burger, I decided to try this well regarded Chinese restaurant across the street from my hotel. This review is based on one item I got for takeout: Szechuan Beef. I am never one to equate quantity with quality. I'm also not well-versed in authentic Chinese. I'm mostly familiar with American Chinese. I ordered Szechuan beef expecting a dry stir fry of beef strips tossed with dried Szechuan peppers. Instead I got a 1 quart container with a zesty, moderately spicy broth loaded with tender strips of melt-in-your-mouth beef. This was pure heaven, and was an explosion of tangy flavor. The quart could've easily served a family of 4. That would just require another side of rice. This was just outstanding! The restaurant was compact yet inviting and service was great. I placed my takeout order on site at the counter, but they have table service.

I have worked in China on and off for years and have eaten many varieties of hot pot in China and Taiwan. This one was ridiculously bad. Like they dont even know what hot pot is. The sweet waiter tried to explain the concept of hot pot, but it was clear that he was not familiar with the real thing. It was cubes of chicken, celery, tomatoes and peppers in a lukewarm broth. Took forever to get hot enough to cook our extra vegies. The vegies didn't look fresh. There were no a la cart sauces. The waiter pointed to the soy sauce and chili oil that were for dumplings and told us that sauce doesn't go with hot pot. My advice is to go to the other Dian Xin where there is no hot pot but the food tastes authentic.

Beware if you have not experienced push cart dimsum as it can be really overstimulating. But I like the aspect of it because it feels really authentic. Since the last time I have been here, there were some new items they offered. One that I tried was the black sesame salted egg yolk bun, which I really liked! Its a good runny consistency and has a good flavor if you like salted egg yolk. Other than that, we had the typical dimsum classics like shu mai, har gow, and chicken feet which were all pretty good, but not insanely good. My biggest complaint about the place is the spacing of the tables. The tables are barely one foot apart from one another, so it feels like we are in everyones conversation and I can imagine if it were busier, it would be tight and uncomfortable. The employees were all nice and quick with service when we went.

The location is fun and creative (food arriving by dumbwaiter never gets old), but the lack of tables makes it tricky if you're planning on more than a quick bite. And not the soy sauce or seasoning kind you'd expect with dim sum--just straightforward table salt. We ordered four dishes, and I was glad I saved the wings for last since they were the least salty. By the time I circled back through the other plates, all I could taste was salt, which sadly masked what were otherwise really well-balanced, flavorful dishes (the Dan Dan dumplings in particular had great flavor underneath it all).
