I only stopped by for a online pick up for my cream cheese Mardi Gras king cake. It was my first time finally getting my hands on one. For online pick up, super fast and efficient. The staff were sweet even though they were busy! There was a long line for those wanting to get one, so beware of that. This king cake is truly the best. The texture is soft and flaky. Cream cheese icing is perfection, and the soft cream cheese almost custard like filling is divine. Definitely my number one favorite king cake. So glad I was able to get one.

    This was delish as well

They are famous for their mardi gras king cake & we were not lucky to grab one (came in late). They sell it on goldbelly but their is a wait list that it is crazy! Came in to try their Vietnamese foods. We ordered pho & grilled porkchop w rice, spring rolls. The pho was very delicious and abundant. Soup was the real deal and heartwarming. The grilled porkchop w rice was also very delicious! Loved their pickled cabbage. The spring rolls was ok and very meaty. The pandan soy milk from a can was very delicious! Friendly staff with tons of seating inside. There is a bakery next door that sells different types of mini pies, bahn mi, etc. There is also outdoor seating with benches but there were homeless people asking for food or money during the time I went. It is sad to witness this.

This was my first time here, and overall the food was good--but the real standout was their meat pies from the bakery side! I came here with friends before our swamp tour, and they offer a solid selection of Vietnamese dishes like pho, rice plates, and vermicelli bowls--exactly what you'd expect from a spot like this. I ordered the Grilled beef Vermicelli with Egg Rolls and it was good. Afterward, we stopped by the bakery that is attached, where my friend picked up a mix of their meat-filled pies: Crawfish, Pâté Chaud Pork & Onion, and Char Siu Pork. I got to sample all three, and wow--they were amazing! Each one had a buttery, flaky crust and was packed with flavor. I honestly regret not grabbing some to-go because they would've made the perfect snack for the flight back to California.

After a few days of southern food, my friends and I were soo excited to switch things up and eat some Vietnamese food. Luckily, on our way back from a swamp tour, we passed through a bunch of Vietnamese restaurants and decided on Dong Phuong. They were incredibly busy (both the bakery and restaurant) but we (party of 5) managed to snag a table right away at noon on a Saturday. I tried their pho dac biet, some of their egg rolls, and Thai iced tea with boba. We also picked up some banh mis from their bakery while we waited for our pho. They were very generous with the meat in the pho and everything was tasty. The banh mis were also hefty, packed with ingredients and the bread was hot out the oven. Everyone we've interacted with at the bakery and restaurant were super friendly. I recommend stopping by!

Side quest while in NOLA. I've heard so much about their king cakes but my visit isn't for that. We had a late lunch here where I ordered their shaken beef. It was a little sweeter for my taste but all the flavor profiles are there. The beef was tender and very flavorful. The broth which came with the plate was also very tasty and comforting. We also visited their bakery where I had their baked bao. It was really, really good. I actually regret not buying more. The service on both sides were typical Vietnamese service. They ask for your order, make your food, serve you the. Just leave you alone to enjoy every morsel of it. This place is definitely worth a side quest and $20 Lyft/Uber while in New Orleans.

Took advantage of the opportunity to visit this place after a long day of touring. We arrived about 30 minutes before 3pm and luckily they were still open as the time on the Yelp and Google says they close at 5pm. We managed to get a late lunch and picked at what was left from the bakery. We ordered a plate of shaken beef and BBH. Enjoyed those then we head on next door to get whatever what was left to take back to the hotel for snack. We ordered their Banh mi as well that we should've eaten there cause the bread were a little soggy by the time we got our hands on it. All in all, it was a great place to visit just a little out of the way from all the tourist spot. But this is what traveling and adventure is all about.

Updating my DP review from years ago and I still LOVE IT as much!! From the pastries my favorite is the pate chaud. This never disappoints and I always get a box to go every time. The king cake if you could get one is also wonderful. Out of all the king cakes I've tried in NOLA, DP has been the best. In this trip, we actually dined in (haven't done this in a while) and we got pho and the bo luc lac plate. The portions were huge and the food was delicious as pictured. Service was fine and ambiance was casual. Don't leave this place without trying anything from the bakery, their French bread is the best also!

Best bahn mi ever. Best king cake and the bakery is amazing. It is a must try even if you feel it's "out of the way" you better make your way there anyways!! Always super sweet staff and cozy enough to order and go or stay and eat.

I came here on a super cold morning to pick up a king cake. The line was long but since it was cold they were nice to open up a section that was inside and warm. The service was great after reaching the POS we got their signature coconut king cake and the pecan king cake. Price is pretty on point to most of the competition. And I love the flavors and fillings. The coconut king cake is amazing. The pecan was great too but cononunt puts the king in king cake. I also have ate here before and had vermicelli and pho and all the food and service is great. I recommend Dong Phuong. Best Vietnamese of NOLA East.

    Pork Banh Mi

We stumbled upon this place and we sure glad we stopped. The food was delicious! We had the pork banh mi as well as a grilled pork salad. We also bought some cinnamon rolls and they were fabulous. Instead of regular dough they appeared to be made from croissant dough. I really wanted to try and King Cake that they are famous for but I missed the time of year that they produce it. When I asked the owner if there was something similar she told me the cinnamon rolls. The facilities were clean and the service was quick and friendly.

Made a trek here as we're heading back to TX coming from FL. This was actually my hubby's idea (props to him) on this find as I didn't expect it!! Driving here though was a little sketchy to be honest haha as we're driving some small roads near the swamp to get there but alas we made it. Outside was very well kept and noticed they sell king cakes which I had no idea about but it's apparently a NoLa thing and only made within carnival season and sells out everyday!! (Will need to try and order one next time we are in town!) Anyways, the food! We went to the bakery side as we just wanted to grab some banh mi's to travel along with us. I got their #4 Chinese BBQ Pork and hubby got their #5 Grilled BBQ pork and we also grabbed some their pastries and desserts to try as well. But WOWWWW that Banh Mi, we were REALLY impressed because that was definitely fully loaded with all the fillings and SO much meat! For $7, it was definitely worth it! Flavorful and packed with all the goodness and their pate, so perfect!! A lot of their pastries brings me back memories of my childhood of when my parents and I would go to the Asian bakeries to take home to eat whenever we were in the Garden Grove area back in CA. it was great nostalgia. Workers were so nice, friendly as well. Lots of parking at least when we arrived there. The middle side of the place is their restaurant which serves phó and other goodness. I went into grab some of their Viet iced coffee to get caffeinated for the road. This was a great pit stop for some good banh mi's and snacks!!

Knew I wanted to come here during my trip to New Orleans. We ubered 30 minutes just to eat here and it was definitely worth it. Had the bun Bo hue and it was so good, much better than the bun Bo hue I get back home in california. We also had plans to go to their bakery which is connected to the main restaurant. We got there around 11am on a Saturday and could tell most of the bakery sweets and items were sold out already :(, not sure if this is a normal occurrence or if it's because we came the Saturday right after lunar new year which was on a Wednesday. We still made our way over to the bakery, we grabbed a big bag of their fresh banh mi bread, a pate chaud to try, and a Pandan dessert. Their banh mi bread is the CLOSEST one I've found in the U.S. that is just like what I had on my trip to Vietnam. It was so good and if I lived here I'd be at the bakery every weekend getting a bag of the banh mi bread. Pate chaud was also delicious. Service was good at both the restaurant and bakery, friendly, took our orders, etc., pretty standard for this type of restaurant. If you live here or you are on vacation here I think it's definitely worthwhile to come here. Eat at the restaurant or you could go to the bakery and get a banh mi sandwich or some other goodies to go. 10/10, literally the best banh mi bread I've had, just like what I had in Vietnam, they nailed down the texture PERFECTLY

What is the price of a king cake?

$30 each and worth every penny!

Is the king cake available year round? I don't see anything on the website about it but would love to try it!

No, they only make King Cakes during Carnival season. You can order one on their website once they become available. And, speaking as one who lives here, I'm a firm believer in only consuming king cake during Carnival.

Can I just buy a slice of king cake here or do they only sell in whole?

Sorry, they don't sell just slices. You will have to get a whole King Cake. Don't deny yourself a whole King Cake lol...

Do they sell king cake ? I heard they won James Beard award for cake .. not sure if this is true ...

Yes they do and they sell out everyday. If you do try to get one prepare for a 1-2 hour wait in line. You can also order online for future dates

Does anyone know if their food (specifically the baked goods/King Cakes) are free of peanuts and peanut cross-contamination? My son is severely allergic to peanuts and I can't find allergen information.

I would call them and ask, as this is a serious matter.

Is this place crazy busy outside of Mardi Gras? My flight lands at about 9 AM. Would there be too long a wait at this time for me to ask my Uber to wait on me while I pick up banh mi? If so will Uber pick up out here?

No only crowded during Mardi Gras plus the king cakes are in a different section of the restaurant. Shouldn't be a wait at all. That's a long ride from the airport at least 30 minutes

Will they be open on Easter Sunday? I tried to call but they never pick up.

    Probably not !

Do they add msg in their meat marinades, grilled chicken, grilled tofu, etc? Also do they do steamed vegetables?

They do steam vegetables as far as the MSG you should call the them .

Can anyone tell me how early you had to get there to get a cake?

It depends on how early it is during the season . I actually was able to walk straight up and get a cake no line at all ,just get up early in the morning and go you will be happy you did !!

We arrived sans reservation, but were whisked straight into the courtyard -- arguably the best seat in the house on a pleasant Louisiana evening. Between the soft night air and the glow of the courtyard, the atmosphere alone deserved applause. The cocktails arrived first and immediately set a dangerously high standard: beautifully crafted, perfectly balanced, and the kind of drinks that make you consider canceling your plans afterward. Fortunately, the food rose to the occasion. The edamame and roasted Brussels sprouts disappeared with alarming speed, and the Amelie Salad was a standout -- generously portioned, fresh, vibrant, and substantial enough to be an entrée or ideal for sharing if you're pretending to be civilized. A special nod to Liz, who elevated the entire experience with spot-on recommendations, warm hospitality, and the rare ability to be both attentive and effortlessly relaxed. In a city famous for memorable dining, this meal still managed to feel special -- equal parts elegant, welcoming, and unmistakably New Orleans.

The host was extremely welcoming and friendly. Our server and helpers were over quickly to drop off waters and greet us. I ended up ordered the salmon. With it being so early and only one or 2 other tables besides my friend and me, the food did take longer to come out than I expected it to. Both of us did thoroughly enjoy what we got. The salmon was crispy on the outside with a nice sauce over it. We thought we'd have time to get dessert so we ordered a couple but that too took a very long time. We finally waved down our server to cancel and get the check since we had to be somewhere and he apologized and said their WiFi was going in and out so it could be that it was registering on the kitchen side. That may have explained why our entrees took too long. If it wasn't for the service and the food being great - I would not be thrilled about timing. We got there around 5:30p and had to leave by 7:15p so an almost 2 hours experience that probably could have been 1 hour.

I'm sorry but I'm not sure if I agree with the current ratings of 4.7 this place has (as of Feb 2,…read more2025.) To me, based on our experience tonight, it's none other than a super over-hyped sushi restaurant that only has a high end feel to it. Service: was decent. We arrived at the place 11 minutes before our reservation time of 5pm. Since my daughter works in the restaurant industry, as a politeness, we didn't go inside until 4:59pm even though one of the workers came to the door and unlocked it at 4:51pm. Once inside he knew we were the 5pm reservation. He was polite but somehow his whole demeanor lacked friendliness. Menu: Even though the drink menu was an actual physical one, the food menu is online. How strange. After scanning the QR code, we were hoping to see a good selection of food items. But to our surprise, the food menu is/was very small. Actually this place's main thing is nothing but "omakase" where if you choose to order from the a la cart section, the choices are so limited (we were here in town from Denver, CO. After eating some deep-fried stuff for the last few days, we felt that we were truly healthy food or salad depleted; just to clarify, we didn't show up to to this restaurant just to eat salad because after all, this is a sushi restaurant. We love sushi. And yet we were hoping for some decently sized salad. Unfortunately none is/was found on the menu. I even personally asked the guy to see if the sushi chef could whip up something but he gave me a nonchalant no.) We still believed this place could do some magical things so we ordered a bowl of miso soup, oyster tarter (lobster tarter replacement), tuna, salmon and yellowtail nigiris. Miso soup, for the price of $10, was extremely small. Also the entire soup was lukewarm to a point where the center of the small tofu pieces was still cold. Ugh... All the nirigis tasted fresh but I didn't care for the sweet sauce (mainly used for unagi/eel) on the salmon nigiri. Why?? I've never had a salmon nigiri prepared this way.) The only item that was impressive was the oyster tarter (not on the menu as this was the replacement item for the lobster tarter.) This was excellent where we could have easily ordered another one but at this point, we didn't want to spend anymore $$ as all items on the menu are not cheap here. We are a fan of yuzu. The only dessert item (once again, there is only one dessert on the menu) is yuzu tart or something like that. One of the sushi chefs informed us though that the online menu hadn't been quite updated for this so he said it would be a yuzu sponge cake type thing. We decided to give it a try. This, however, failed to impress us either as it was a very much average sponge cake, nothing more at all. We didn't order any drinks besides the water so the final bill was about $75 with some change. Well, tonight's overall experience of ours didn't justify this amount in any way possible. There was another sushi restaurant that had the similar ratings with similar location (when we searched it yesterday.) Maybe we should have chosen that one instead. Disappointed....

If the chef is reading reviews... switch the miso soup with a mini-ramen to give the meal more substance.

I ordered Szechuan beef expecting a dry stir fry of beef strips tossed with dried Szechuan peppers. Took forever to get hot enough to cook our extra vegies. The vegies didn't look fresh. There were no a la cart sauces.
