We got the Mule cocktail and the. Finished the meal with the Thai old fashion, which was a clever twist on the classic old fashion. The place has a nice feel and decorated modestly with a definite Thai influence from a city the owner may have been from. Our Takeaway was it's Thai with a twist, which was nice. You'll definitely want to call ahead and make a reservation as the space is small and non-reservation seating can be limited, even on a weekday. Chef Orawin goes above and beyond to assure that she uses only the freshest and local ingredients to present her take on elevated traditional Thai street food. Our sever was extremely knowledgeable of the menu and gave great recommendations, as many of these items are not what one might find at your typical American Thai restaurant. For $165 I expected better service and good quality. The restaurant is a good location and it's cute but I wouldn't recommend it in terms of flavor of being worth it. This place is small and has limited seating so I'd recommend booking a reservation! We were able to walk in very late though and had a great time! The food is absolutely delicious though it was definitely way spicier than I was expecting given we asked for mild. I really enjoyed the fried okra and the eggplant was so unique! Crazy disappointing. Would not make Pad Thai with Chicken. The one chicken dish they had was very unflavorful, chicken odd, noodles supposedly "crispy" but just tasted raw and hard. Expensive. Wow was impressed by this place! They offer something a little different than the usual Thai places. We got the crab fried rice and spicy eggplant w shrimp to go, major flavors!! Found the food to be a little on the saltier side for our liking but enjoyed it nonetheless. The eggplant was a standout for us. Not just 1 lonely veggie item, but actually a substantial number of entrees and appetizers. :) They even have vegan fish sauce, and some often hard to find vegan Thai dishes such as Khao Soi! They also have vegan cheesecake- the day I went they had 2 options, Pistachio & Chai. I got the pistachio and it was so good! Creamy smooth base- I think it is made of coconut. Pistachio flavor could be slightly stronger. The Tofu Satay was good- perfectly fried tofu with a tasty peanut sauce. The Khao Soi came with purple sweet potato noodles unexpectedly, instead of yellow noodles. It ended up being a pleasant surprise as firstly the colors were great, and secondly it was a super chewy texture. The curry soup was tasty and not too heavy- I've had vegan Khao Soi before that was extremely rich with coconut and a bit too heavy. The service was really good- my waitress was friendly and answered all my questions. Food came out in a reasonable time. The decor is really lovely- gold accents with a combination of traditional + modern decor. Lovely ambience for any occasion- family time, date night, friends night out. Admittedly, I had very high expectations for my meal at Thaihey (I actually made it my last meal in NoLa). The decor is nice and service was great but the food was sadly a disappointment. I Ordered the lobster ravioli tom kah (3.5/5: it was pretty good but not great. Sauce/soup was pretty good but I've had more flavorful tom kha before. Lobster seemed overcooked and ravioli was a bit thick). For a 30+ dollar dish this was very disappointing. Probably the best meal we had in New Orleans! I could do with skipping the tofu satay appetizer next time though. It didn't have that much flavor although the tofu was cooked well. Also, my husband is allergic to peanuts and they charged us for an extra chili sauce that they brought out for us - seems a little unfair. Super underrated New Orleans eatery! Ended up going here twice in 4 days and attempted to go 4x in 4 days! It's just that good. My colleagues and I first dined here following a paddle boat tour so we arrived slightly before 5pm on a Sunday, which is when they open. Within minutes of opening, all tables were filled and in retrospect, we were so lucky to be able to time this perfectly to enjoy our first dining experience! I've since been a couple of times, with an attempt to go every night for 4 nights, but they were either booked or the wait was too long. I believe they do take reservations, so prepare yourselves in advance! On my second visit here, we were able to snag one of the three open tables at 6pm. Here's everything I've tried and the standouts: - Thai Iced Tea: MUST TRY! There's two options: a dairy and vegan option. The drink is served with a tea-infused ice block so after you finish your initial drink, you can keep adding more liquid for more tea! - Thaihey Fried okra: Deep fried okra with secret spices seasoning - this was great but nothing phenomenal. Has a kick. My coworkers enjoyed the exotic spices. - Green Curry Dumplings: Kurobuta pork marinated in green curry, encased in a light dough, served with a coconut milk sauce and basil oil drizzle - I thought the coconut milk sauce diluted the overall flavor and made the dish watery, and $15 for 4 dumplings is a lot to pay, but my coworkers enjoyed this dish. The presentation is gorgeous! I would probably not order again. - Thaihey Pad Thai Colossal Soft Shell Crab: Stir fried rice noodle with tamarind sauce, sliced saffron egg sheet, crushed peanut, cabbage, and rainbow carrot - looked delicious but the pad thai was not authentic. - Khao Soi Short Rib: Slow cooked Short Rib Northern style yellow curry noodle soup with fried egg noodles, pickled radish, and fresh cilantro. Know that Thaihey has 5 different Khao Soi options on the menu, and Khao Soi is my most favorite Thai dish - I was in foodie heaven! Surely, I thought this place knows how to do Khao Soi right. I ordered the most expensive version thinking I was in for a treat. If done correctly, Khao Soi should be a blend of flavors and textures that explode in your mouth! I was so disappointed in Thaihey's rendition of Khao Soi. As you can see, my dish lacked color, flavor, and depth. It was also incredibly salty. I packed most of it to-go and had to order a side of rice to balance out the salt. Definitely would not pay $45 again for this disappointment. - Ribeye Boat Noodle Soup - Seared ribeye beef in a sweet soy sauce, infused with aromatic five-spice oxtail broth, served with spinach and rice noodles. This was a STANDOUT dish! Obviously not traditional boat noodle soup made with beef or pork blood, but the soup was bursting with spice and incredibly delicious. I ordered this with a medium spice level and it was fantastic! - Thaihey Spicy Ramen Pork Ribs: Korean BBQ sauce-coated fried pork ribs served with stir-fried ramen noodles, Thai basil and salted egg yolk. Another STANDOUT dish! The pork ribs and diverse flavors of the noodles with the veggie combo really brings this dish together. Very delicious! - Pistachio Vegan Cheesecake: Graham cracker, caramel, toasted marshmallow cheesecake, chocolate ganache, and graham crust by Deuxbelle Vegan Pastry & Confections - this was done very well!! I'm not vegan but was impressed by this dessert. Overall, the ambiance is a bit tight. The restaurant would struggle with accommodating parties more than 4 (if it's even possible). I wouldn't call this an authentic Thai restaurant, but instead a restaurant that does a variety of Thai-inspired dishes pretty well. Another plus is their wide selection of vegan options in a city that's known for seafood and heavy meat dishes. Service was attentive on both occasions. Thaihey has my vote! Thai Hay NOLA is incredible! The combination of Thai and Creole flavors is so unique, and everything we ordered was incredible. We started with Thai iced tea, and I got mine with salted coconut cream, which was amazing--the creaminess balanced the tea perfectly. Even the water infused with pandan leaves was a nice touch, adding a subtle, refreshing flavor. For appetizers, we had the fried tofu and fried lotus root, and while we paid extra for the peanut sauce, it was totally worth it. For entrees, we got the short rib khao soi and the catfish red curry with pumpkin--both were bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. The food? 5+ stars. My favorite meal I had while staying in NOLA. The service? It was a little rough. To be fair, my fiancé and I walked in around 9:20 and the place closes at 10. If this were an issue, I wish we had just been turned away because the waiter was pretty unkind to us about it. We could hear him complaining about it to the bartender like 6 feet away from us. We made an effort to only order a few things and we ate as quickly as we could so we could get out by 10. We were not even the last group in the restaurant when we left. But he was very obviously treating us with passive aggression the whole time we were there. They do charge you an automatic 17% gratuity, but we tried to give the waiter a little extra due to his clear frustration but he refused it. The menu is traditional Thai food but with more of a modern twist. They serve pandan-infused water which I thought was a really nice touch, it complemented the food very well. I also ordered a virgin old fashioned as I don't usually see that on mocktail menus and it had a lovely flavor profile. We got tofu satay for a starter to share, we liked the peanut sauce and salad that came with it (good to note that they also have multiple vegan options on their menu). For mains, we got the khao soi chicken and the ribeye pad Thai. It is more expensive than the usual Thai spot but that's because the food is a little more upscale. That being said, both entrees were delicious and made for a good dinner. I would recommend booking a reservation here as the space is small and can tend to fill up quick. So I need to preface this review by saying that Thaihey Nola's food is ABSOLUTELY delicious and beautifully presented. I was pleasantly surprised by all the photos on the menu, the creativity in fusing Thai & Cajun cuisine in their dishes, how their water is infused with pandan, and the GENIUS idea of using frozen tea ice cubes in their Thai iced tea. The kitchen gets a solid 5 stars from me. The reason why I knocked off two stars is because of our server, Greg. Sweet young man, but he severely lacks experience (This coming from someone who worked in the restaurant industry for 20 years). First, he forgot my fiancé's beer and started rolling silverware when he had been waiting a while for his drink. We had to flag him down to remind him. But that's not a big deal. What WAS a big deal is I ordered my Khao Soi mild but it ended up being WAY too spicy. I told my fiancé to try it since he has a good spice tolerance and even HE said it was really spicy. I asked Greg if he actually put my order in as mild and he claimed he did, then offered to bring me some hot coconut milk to dilute it. The coconut milk helped, but didn't make it tolerable enough for me. I had to waste the whole bowl of Khao Soi. Guess what my check said? "Medium spicy" - YUP! Greg straight up gaslit me. I didn't confront him because I failed to check the details of our receipt before we left the restaurant (My mistake here). The worst part is the restaurant automatically charges a 20% gratuity no matter how many people you have in your party. So we were forced to give this man an excellent tip for dropping the ball multiple times. I know some people might feel I'm being too harsh. But as a server, Greg needs to do better. What if I had an allergy and he got it wrong? He could've killed me. read more

We didn't have a reservation and came by on a saturday night so we did have to wait about 30-40 mins, which ok as we got a drink at the pub across the street. If you ever asked me if I thought I could become obsessed with Thai food, I would have said no way, but here I am, fantasizing about when I will return to Thaihey for my next fix. Now I love love love Thai food and have for a long time but this is mind-blowingly delicious and innovative Thai food, an artform, if you will. NOLA has its fare share of good Thai, but Thaihey is literally the best that I've ever had. And they have an entire vegan menu, in addition to their meats and seafood. Bring everyone you know because they will all be accommodated here, yes, even those who are both GF and vegan. I was undecided with literally everything: appetizers, entrees and cocktails because there were a lot of things tempting me. My friend and I shared the tofu satay, which is deep fried slices of tofu and an accompanying savory/sweet/very spicy satay sauce. I am currently lamenting over the fact that this sauce isn't waiting for me in my fridge so that I may pour it over everything I eat. I followed that with the Khao Soi Tofu, Thai hot of course, and I have to say I've never had anything like it before. It is phenomenal, a texture party (love the crunchy soy bits alongside the soft tofu and lotus roots) and has sensational flavor. The spice level was hot but not to the point where I couldn't taste every flavor note. So you see how much I loved the Khao Soi. But with one bite of my friend's pumpkin curry, I fell deeply in love. It is extraordinary, luscious, and weep-worthy. I may or may not be planning to go again within a week to eat this. The cocktail list is very unique, a lot of my favorite things with a SE Asian twist (loved my Thai Mule and hope to try the sangria next time). Our service that night was perfection (you can tell the staff love working there and their recommendations are authentic). Ambiance is also lovely. Think intimate, not small, very atmospheric and zen-like. It feels like a special place but not so fancy that you can just come here on a whim. Wow, Thaihey is truly a gem. As a lover of Thai food , I've been to nearly every Thai restaurant in the city. Thaihey is absolutely amongst the best. The drinks, the apps, the entrees and dessert were all delicious. My friend and I recently visited for lunch and shared the crispy shrimp rolls , I got the Khao Soi shrimp as an entree and then we shared a bite of the vegan (matcha) cheesecake which was amazing. I also had a mocktail which was akin to a Moscow mule. It was so refreshing. Our server was so friendly and checked in with us frequently. She also had great insights regarding the menu. At St Roch for those in the know is more a smorgasbord of multiple restaurants in a hall-like setting. The Laarb ribs will knock your socks off. Amazing & complex flavor. This restaurant doesn't sell the traditional Thai dishes or even substitute any ingredients. And overall, pretty expensive, but it was very delicious. As much as I was expecting it to be mediocre because they didn't have a lot of the Thai dishes that I'm used to, it was surprisingly very flavorful and delish. My whole family enjoyed their dishes as well. Food presentation and the ambiance were great. The staff are fast and very friendly. We stay in a hotel in the area so we walked.
