I had lots of recommendations for Yummy House for dim sum! I have yet to try many other dim sum in NOLA, but it's prob the best in NOLA! My favorites in order: - Crispy dumpling w pork and shrimp - I loved the mochi texture - pan fried bun dumpling (forgot the name sry) - the closest thing you'll get to sen jian bao around here *cries* - Soup dumpling - juicy and fresh tasting - turnip cake - short ribs - pineapple bun - egg custard bun Service was fast and friendly. Inside was clean with lots of seating. Came here because flight got delayed so it was super convenient - 5 min from the airport! I would recommend coming as a party of 3 for the perfect portions. Also, not that it matters but their menu is high quality. Parking: in parking lot Background: I have high standards for dim sum! Now THIS is a great dim sum place! Although there aren't any carts being pushed out like at Panda King in Gretna, all of the food was still fresh and tasty. Service was quick with our orders. The inside was clean and had enough seating, in contrast to Dian Xin in New Orleans. My mom and I tried about 8 of their dim sum options. All of them were really good, but I'd personally recommend their Crispy Taro Dumpling with Pork & Shrimp ($5.99), Shrimp Dumplings with Scallops ($8.95), and Salted Egg Buns ($6.99). For the quality of the dishes, I'd say it's worth trying. With pun intended, Yummy House in Kenner is YUMMY! *I do want to note that their dim sum pricing is located on their dim sum sheet instead of the menu, as they base it on sizing. Yummy House has stepped up their dim sum game. Definitely one of the best dim sum restaurants in the Kenner/Metairie/New Orleans area. The menu variety is greatly expanded with almost all of the traditional and popular dim sum offerings now available, and the taste across the board is well above average. The dim sum is consistently very good. Service is good with attentive and cordial servers which is an improvement over the past 12 months. The ambiance is fine given its location in a low-end strip mall. We've returned many, many times, and will keep returning if the quality remains or increases. I won't say the dim sum here will blow your mind, but it's the only option aside from buying frozen from the Asian markets, so it's automatically acceptable. Service was fine, and atmosphere is family friendly. Some dim sum dishes are better than others like the shrimp rice rolls, egg tarts, and the radish cakes. Great place to get dim sum especially near the airport. They have a large selection and I definitely appreciate how there's pictures for each dim sum item. I love the hours of this place as well. This place is not the typical pushcart dimsum which is fine with me, because sometimes I wonder if what I want is coming thru the cart, I like that I can order and that it comes out fresh. In this trip. We ordered the following as pictured, roasted pork bun, Chinese broccoli, chicken feet, shrimp noodle, curry squid, and soup dumpling. The food I say is an overall 3.5/5 my favorite was the roasted pork bun and the curry squid. To me, the soup dumpling was off, the dumpling was thick and it was hard on the outside (maybe it was off that day as I'm seeing good reviews on the dumpling here), other selections were good and tasted as expected. What!? Dim Sum in Kenner and available every day of the week!! Heck yeah I'm happy! I visited on a Wednesday with mom and sister, and the place was moderately busy. The majority of the customers were Asian. These are good signs that the location and community will support this Cantonese tradition in this suburb of New Orleans. I'm not sure if they offer cart service on weekends, but on our visit we marked a sheet with our dim sum order. There is a picture menu to help with identifying the items. This method is sometimes better than the rolling carts. Your items are cooked to order, and you don't need to hope for items you want to be on the carts. I was very pleased with wide variety of dim sums on the menu. We ordered Shrimp Stuffed in Eggplant, Bean Curd Skin Roll with Pork and Shrimp, Steamed Rice Noodle Roll with Beef Short Rib, Sticky Rice with Pork wrapped in Lotus Leaf, and Curry Squid. I ordered take out here because I was craving dim sum and it's the only spot in Kenner to my knowledge that offers it. It's a small, family owned business. The dim sum was really good. It's a little pricey compared to what I've spent out of town but it hit the spot. The service was typical for a pick up an hour before closing experience. We were hoping this place would outdo their dim sum competitor so we wouldn't have to travel far anymore. I've read other bad reviews and was a little hesitant trying it out. However, it wasn't too bad. The restaurant wasn't too packed when we came but we still stood at the door for a few minutes without being acknowledged before I decided to go straight to the counter to ask if it was a seat yourself or what kind of deal. It was a wait to be seated ordeal, but of course, the employees only decided to glance quickly at us and carried on. Either way, we sat and quickly ordered. They serve more than just dim sum. There's also Chinese food and authentic Chinese specials on the board. I noticed some of the Vietnamese translations of the items were wrong, too, but I'm guessing they used Google Translate. You'll still be able to navigate the menu, though, as some do have pictures. They also have large tables with a lazy Susan to have a family style meal. The menu is large enough to have options for everyone. Everything is made to order. There are no push carts for dim sum, so be prepared for a slightly longer wait time. Overall, the food was ok, mediocre. It's close enough to get you through your dim sum cravings if you live in the Metairie or Kenner area. read more

Came back to give them another try with family. Better experience than my initial visit when they just opened. Food is still fresh to order and no hovering waiter. They have grown in clientele which they were pretty busy with most of the tables filled up. With a busy restaurant, they seem to keep up with everybody which everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. This review is for their Dim Sum menu. Overall their Dim Sum is very good and fresh. I've dined in twice and ordered take out a few times. Everything was fresh and made to order except the bbq pork buns on one occasion but let me tell you why. The first time we ordered it we saw them bake them fresh. It's understandable to not bake 1 order at a time, so they baked about 3 orders. That time it was very fresh for us but whoever may order it after us may not get the same experience. The next time we had it it was warm but you can taste and see the difference in the bun. (Assuming someone ordered it earlier and the order we got was one of the extra ones.) But the filling was consistent and very good. This isn't a big deal as most items aren't made to order/perfectly fresh at any push cart dim sum place. Everything else we ordered came out very hot and was delicious. I even craved for some items I don't normally eat, such as the pan fried radish cake, sesame balls, and banana leaf sticky rice. All 3 were delicious! Their chili sauce on their dining tables are delicious and VERY hot. I'm used to the chili sauces not having much kick to them and mistakenly added too much to my soy sauce. Their sauce is legit. (If you order to go they don't give you the sauce, you'll have to ask for it.) Service is average and the restaurant is clean. The service isn't exceptional but it's typical at a more traditional Chinese restaurant for them to give you your space and check on you from afar. When we did need something it wasn't an issue getting someone's attention. Highlights I always order: - Fried Shrimp Balls (ask for a side of sweet and sour sauce to dip) - Steamed rice roll with shrimp - Steamed rice roll with fried bread (Very good but I would only order this for dine in. When I had it for take out, the steam made the bread mushy by the time I got home.) Everything else I'd still highly recommend. Only item I had that I didn't like was the shumai. Maybe I'll give it another try but the first time the texture was off. The ground meat mixture (pork and maybe shrimp?) didn't have any texture and just tasted soft and mushy. Overall they're my go to dim sum place. I love that it's fresh, made to order, and available daily during all hours! Having dim sum for dinner at 9pm just hits different. read more

Came here in October 2023. Our table (6 people) ordered just enough to satisfy our tummies and kept the cost down to $23. We ordered roast pork buns, beef short ribs, steamed rices rolls with shrimp, and shumai (not pictured) which were memorably delicious and satisfying (and inexpensive). I think we ordered a couple others too, but I don't remember them. Highly recommend as a Sunday dim sum place. Visiting from Houston where I am spoiled for choice when it comes to the number of places that serve daily/all-day dim sum, I was quite surprised to find this little treasure of a place located in a strip mall off of the freeway in Kenner. Dim sum items were fresh and very tasty, demonstrating the love and care the dim sum chef(s) put into each dish! I don't know how they did it but the yu-char-kway wrapped within in the silky rice noodle sheets in the cha leung stayed crispy until the last bite, even when it was drenched in the delicious seasoned soy sauce! Har-gow skin didn't fall apart when picked up with chopsticks either. Shrimp fillings had the desired "crunch" and were generous. This is my new favorite place for excellent dim sum in New Orleans. Service was OK, not too attentive if that's what you are looking for. The waitress delivered all the items then disappeared to the back. However, the teapot was filled as needed, so no complaints from me. I usually don't want to be bothered anyway when the food is that good! Restaurant very clean and organized. I liked that all items were ordered off of the menu and presented hot and fresh as opposed to sitting in the cart getting cold and stale before getting to my table. No photo since we inhaled everything before remembering that pictures of the food have not been taken. No leftovers to take home which is always a good thing! I no longer have to desperately order dim sum whenever I travel - the answer to all my cravings is right here. This place has all the specialties I grew up with across the world from Taro dumplings with pork to turnip cake. The chive dumplings were cooked so authentically down to the skin and the shrimp rice rolls were exactly how I needed them to be. Also, the food items apart from dim sum leave nothing to be desired. The wide rice noodles with beef were excellent as is the hot and sour soup with squid as an option instead of calamari. Some items may be on the pricier side, but it's more than worth it. The food was good, but the service was slow. I went there with my husband and 3 kids for Mother's Day brunch. It was busy so I can understand that they were busy. It took us like 15 mins to get a waiter take our order in, however the food came out hot and fast. I'll definitely have to try out this place again. The decor seems okay. The chair covers were very tacky and dirty. I felt gross just sitting on it. My son's highchair was sticky like it wasn't cleaned well. Note that there's no traditional push cart dim sum. Made 2 trips to New Orleans in 2023 to get dim sum at this location. At this location you order the dim sum and they bring it to you when it's ready. This is as opposed to the dim sum places which push the carts around----the latter is a dying breed although there is 1 establishment on the Westbank which does this. In any event, Yummy House vists occurred 2 times in 2023 and each time it was during the lunch hours and not very busy. I believe most of the persons dining in order dim sum, but it was not 100%. Yummy House also has your standard lunch and dinner specials (entree, friend rice, and soup or egg rollcombo) common to Chinese reataurants which some diners order. But back to the dim sum-----they have standard fare dim sum and since there are so few places in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, they can charge higher prices. We ordered the usual popular items such as har gaw, sui mai, look look, etc.-----all were acceptable and good. It should be noted that there seems to be a slight variance in the preparation of dim sum offerings by Vietnamese cooks and Chinese cooks ----compared to the ones big dim sum place on the Westback, the dim sum at Yummy House seems more Chinese based. Service was attentive and a good time was had by all. One last thing, before you go, you may want to verify that they are open----on 1 occasion we stopped at Yummy House on a Thursday. A Thursday! This is about as authentic as it gets, especially in NOLA! As an Asian who has lived extensively in Asia and currently lives in NYC, this place rivals a lot of spots in big cities. In reading through the reviews, there are a lot of 1 star reviews for how "chaotic" it is and spotty service... clearly those people have never been to an actual dim sum place lol. The dim sum is warm and tasty - pretty standard for what you would get in SF/NY/etc. What surprised me was the variety of dim sum - for a place off the highway by the airport, they've definitely got all the top dim sum hits and then some. The regular food is excellent as well. The whole duck is delicious, veggies are fresh and prepared in traditional Chinese/Cantonese methods. This is an excellent place for a family-style meal.
