The food I ordered here was delicious, especially after an invigorating hike in the swamp*. I can't remember exactly what we ordered, some tofu, some noodles. However, the vegetarian soup is completely on-point and a must order. The prices are a bit expensive for what they are, but I am a spoiled Californian who has a plethora of delicious Chinese/Vietnamese food available at all times, for a fraction of the price. Went here for dinner and was soo disappointed. Ordered the 199.00 Family Special and they literally had nothing on the menu. Owner came out and kept saying "We can sub you a bigger lobster, crabs for the lobster, or fish or clams..." and when we picked crabs, she came back 5 minutes later and said they couldn't sub it...she suggested we get the "bigger" lobster but would have to charge us an extra 25.00..Waittttt...if you have a preset menu, why would you NOT have what you offer?! And then come out and offer us a sub and come back and say, oh sorry, we can't do it. I was aggravated to the 10th power. Nice place. Service was very nice. Ordered set for 4. The fish sour soup: a bit too sour but the fish was fresh and good. Stew fish was okay, just hat the broth was a bit too salty. I was pretty excited to try August Moon since I had driven past it many times. We started out with the egg drop soup which was divine. We also ordered crab rangoon which was also very good. The egg rolls also came out. They were not so good. They use a spice or mixture of seasonings that is quite foul. I had a few more bites to try to identify what it was but couldn't. My combination platter of General Tso's chicken arrived and upon the first bite, I tasted the foul taste again. I sent the plate back and ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken. The new dish was better and I was able to enjoy the rest of my meal. They have a wide range of items on their menu and the staff was friendly. I've been here before and purchased the Vietnamese food. It's good albeit on the expensive side. Today I ordered Panang curry which is a Thai dish. The food was underwhelming. The dish did not really taste balanced. The food was bland with just the taste of the spiciness adding to things but none of the flavors worked well together. I should have known better than to order a Thai dish. Not going to bother bringing it home. Stick with the Viet dishes. Service was fast though. read more

I've been to this place a few times and the food is always good.. This time me and a group of friends came and we ordered the seafood hot pot, the best hot pot I've had at any restaurant! The broth was perfect. We also ordered the spicy fried calamari which was also really good.. Our waiter was nice, we asked for sauce for each person and he came back with one, and we politely asked again for more sauce so everyone can have their own and again he brought back just one so we just left that alone. Horrible. Food smelled awful and the waitress gave my food to the wrong person at our table so they started eating it because none of us knew exactly what our plates would look like. Then when they brought out the other plate of food to me, we realized something was wrong so we asked the girl to fix it and I handed my friend what she had originally ordered which was the plate that was handed to me. then the girl took my plate which my friend ate two bites out of and I asked if they could make me a new plate since it was her mistake. it was taking so long so we told her to just cancel it and don't worry about my food. So when my friend who got the wrong food started to eat the food that she actually ordered, she noticed it smelled bad and like it was rotting. we asked for a manager to explain what was going on and the waitress lied and said that we kept the original plate and ate all of it which only two bites was taken out of it before we realized she had the wrong food. So my moms friend said "this doesn't smell right, it smells bad" and the manager replied with an attitude saying "don't say our food smells bad, you don't say that" I chimed in and I said "ma'am, we can say whatever we want. If this smells bad to us, it smells bad to us and she's not eating it." After all, the customer is always right, right? Any other restaurant I've ever been to, if a customer has something wrong with their food or is not comfortable eating it for some reason, the management takes the food back and doesn't charge for it. The manager and the waitress kept speaking in their language which made us all uncomfortable because we had no idea what was being said about us. Long story short they threatened to call the cops on us if we didn't pay and made us pay not only for the plate of food that we didn't eat but ALSO for the plate of food that smelled rotten! Terrible service! Nasty food. I don't usually leave bad reviews but this was a terrible experience. I hope the owner sees this and does something about it because they should not treat customers that way. read more

My family and I really love August Moon. It's really good Vietnamese family style dinners for an amazing price! I've been here a couple of times. Food is ALWAYS fresh and steaming hot when it comes to our table. Servers are friendly and the owner oftentimes walk around to make sure we were properly served. We once got the 10 course family dinner and more recently tried the 6 course family menu. It's the best deal..10 courses for $199 and the 6 course dinner for $96. We loved every dish!! Highlights were: Lemon Grass Shrimp! OUT OF THIS WORLD DELICIOUS!! I also enjoy the Calamari. We love the Fish in Claypot and really enjoyed all the Hot Pots. The Fish Hot Pot had a hint of Lemongrass flavor which hides the smell of the catfish.making the broth very refreshing. The fried banana with icecream were the perfect ending. This is the best Bun Bo Hue that I ate in New Orleans so far, the broth is clear and just enough spiciness, it's also a nice touch of this Restaurant to give you a complementary plate of fried wonton to snack on while waiting for your main course to arrive. The all said the food at August Moon is very good. My family usually frequents China Doll and Empress of China to satisfy our taste for Chinese food. Upon arrival, we were seated immediately. We were given menus and our server arrived shortly. We placed our order of simple Chinese cuisine-Shrimp Broccoli and Shrimp Hunan, egg rice with added shrimp. Also, we had an appetizer of Egg Drop Soup. I was expecting greatness. The food was not bad, but it lacked flavor. The Hunan Shrimp was not spicy at all, and the rest of the food was edible. I will not say I will not visit again, but it is definitely not my top choice for Chinese Cuisine. Again, I can't speak on the Vietnamese selections , as we only ordered Chinese. Okay so here's the deal. My husband and I went here on our date night. Everything was great. Our waitress was so sweet and gave us amazing service. The food was excellent, I had the spicy kung pao and my husband had the coconut curry chicken. Very reasonably priced and we left happy and saying that we would definitely come back. Fast forward to 6 hours later, my husband and I are violently ill. I was so sick I ended up in the emergency room for a severe case of food poisoning and dehydration. I missed two days of work. The crazy thing is that I have a very strong stomach. I traveled through Asia and have eaten at the most "questionable" establishments and for me to get this sick must really say something about their kitchen. I wouldn't risk it. read more

My waiter was a bit**!! 1st off, we ordered fried tofu, half of peking duck, fried calamari, combination fried rice, and mandarin chicken. The fried tofu with flour has to be requested which costs $3-4 more than the regular price of $7.99. Wow, so you mean to tell me that your fried tofu with flour is over $11?? How pathetic! I was upset the waiter spoke with us with an attitude that I really wanted to ask her for the manager. I should've complain about my sprite drink too, but I figured that witch might spit in my drink. The sprite was missing syrup, it tasted like plain club soda like wtf..Oh let me tell you about their Duck they served us. If you ever been to Tan Tan or Sinh Sinh in Houston this place is pretty much like it. They offered a wide variety of food. From Chinese to Vietnamese to Thai. I ordered the soup mang cua which is crap asparagus soup and it was bomb dot com. So good I had to order another bowl for myself. I also got two lobster one cooked with fiber and the other was tamarind. Both were good. I preferred the tamarind better. I also order the bo Tai Chanh and it had great flavors but the meat was super chewy I had to spit it out. I had a lady server and she was really sweet. She couldn't believe I ate two soups two lobsters and a salad. Talk about being hungry! I will be back though to try other food on the menu! read more

Went here once with my parents-in-law and sister-in-law's son for lunch. I had pho, mom had pad thai and kid had pho. The last time I went there was 3 weeks ago because I promised to take a friend of mine out for her bday. The dinner was ok but it upset my stomach because it wasnt used to the grease. By grease I mean fried chicken wings drenched in a sweet chili sauce, the Dragon Wings, which was good but again the stomach didnt like. We also had the roasted duck which came with some buns, it was an over rated 19 bucks. I love me some duck skin, once again, stomach wasnt agreeable with all the duck fat I was eatin'. For veggies, we had the string beans, which was great, but once again had grease in it because they used oil to make it 'shine' or look presentable. Awesome dinner and service. The owner allowed us to peak into the smaller banquet room that was set up for a baptism dinner that night. I didnt know they had one but now that I know, I can add this to my places to go for small gathering or party. The food is good and the service was on par. Cannot complain. The parking lot is big enough, also it's right on Manhattan, you cannot pass it up. 3 stars for good food and service. Chinese/Vietnamese fusion places are my favorites, so I was pretty excited to give this place a try! Our waitress was really nice and the food came out quick. For dinner we decided to do it family style, so that we had a variety of things to try. As an appetizer we ordered the Fried Calamari. The calamari was super crunchy and fresh! They had a hint of citrus in every bite. I wasn't too fond of the sauce though. As our protein we ordered Vietnamese Style Short Ribs. It taste just like how my parents cook it at home, so it got an A+ on my list! We ordered a side of Salty Fish Fried Rice, but couldn't seem to find the fish part in the rice. It was okay to me. We ordered two sides: Tofu (it was delicious!) and some kind of Fried Rice cake (extremely bland....the only thing good from it was probably the Mushroom on top). And lastly, we ordered Asian Sour Fish Soup. There was small chunks of fish, but barely any. The soup was okay, but I felt like it was missing more tartness. Oh! Instead of adding actual garlic in their rau muong xao, I swear on my life I just ate a half tub of garlic powder. Kind of stuff are y'all trying to pull? There's like a million things on the menu there's no way in hell you can cook every single dish on that menu with consistency. This isn't the 90's, shrink your menu. Don't get me started on the "ga xao xa ot." Lol, just lol. It's cooked with lemon grass... These donkeys literally sauteed onions, red peppers, threw in some chicken, and said a prayer. We've been twice to August Moon. Food is good if a little over priced. Both times we've gone we've said we need to go for the lunch special because it looks like a good deal, but we keep forgetting. The Hunan Chicken is tasty. Very flavorful, but it's a little oily. Not sure what that's about. My husband had the beef with broccoli. Also found it a little oily. That's an attribute I don't believe I've ever come across before at a Chinese restaurant. It didn't take away from the way the food tasted, but texture-wise it was noticeable. Certainly didn't stop us from eating it OR from going back. Just weird. Thought I'd mention it. They give you a TON of steamed white rice, which we liked. Service was ok. Atmosphere was nice. Not sure why everything costs x.80 (ex: $7.80, $15.80, etc)... not sure what's up with the extra .80. Ordered steamed dumplings...first time it came out ICE cold. We sent it back. The manager came out to apologize. She personally brought out our new order of steamed dumplings and assured us they would be hot. Opened the cover of the bamboo container...for the love of all things holy, we had steam rising from the container. I was sooooo excited. Touched the dumplings and AGAIN the dumplings were ICE cold. What the frick. I was sooo disappointed. Manager took away the cold dumplings and gave us fried bananas on the house. I won't be back.
