I wandered in around 630, the place was almost empty, which I couldn't believe..it filled up around 8pm, which in Paris is to be expected I guess. Anyway, they have multiple levels of price fixed menus, I chose one of the lower ones and had escargot, duck confit and chocolate mousse. The Escargot are delicious, buttery and with pesto, you can't really go wrong. The duck was good, not much sauce or seasoning but the meat was cooked well, it was served with a side of potatoes that were pretty much circular french fries from frozen. I could've lived without those. The chocolate mousse wasn't half bad, it could be smoother and richer in flavor but for a quick dessert it was okay. I actually watched the cook make more while I was eating. I will say the couple working, man were they moving, cutting bread per table, hosting seating expediting food. They were moving! Overall, I've had better meals but it's worth a try if you're in the area. I'm writing this as I sit here waiting for the bill, once served it takes forever to get a bill. Very cute, picturesque Parisian bistro. My first dining experience during our few days in Paris and I loved it! :) Au Petit Bistro is located right off of Rue Mouffetard. The prix fixe menu options are displayed (both in English and in French) right at the entrance and at very affordable prices. Ok...so maybe this caters a bit to tourists, but I appreciated the waiters that could speak English too. Anyways, inside is very intimate. Like most French bistros/brasseries, seating is very close to your neighbors. Time to get chummy! Bf and I each got 3 courses: *Mussels in a shellfish sauce. There was a bit of cheese sprinkled on top. Came out piping hot. Loved dipping my baguette in the broth. Delicious. *Duck confit with a side of roasted potatoes and green beans. Enjoyed the duck. Flavorful. It wasn't too dry. The veggie were so-so. *Creme brulee. I've ALWAYS wanted to eat creme brulee in Paris! It was good. Just a tiny bit surprised that the custard on the bottom was served cold. I'm use to it being warm. Not sure if this is the norm. But anyways, I enjoyed cracking on spoon on top! So cliche! But so french! =) Bf tried the escargot for his appetizer. It was in a butter sauce. Soooo fresh and delicious. For his main dish, he got lamb with a side of scalloped potatoes. I loved his potatoes. I wish they were mine! For dessert it was chocolate mousse. I don't remember the taste, but he enjoyed it. Total for the entire meal was 28 euros. Not too bad, considering we got 3 courses each and they were sizable portions. Oh and we tried to dine like Parisians. Slow, lots of talking, and savoring every mouthful. We stopped here in our last night in Paris. We weren't sure what we wanted to eat after two weeks of incredible food. The place has a set menu for €13.90, €16.90 and €24.90. We chose the mid range. A nice selection of starters. My partner and I had spanakopita and his daughter had a Greek salad. (The owners are Greek). Food was nicely presented and decently proportioned. For the main course, I had moussaka with salad. My partner had roast lamb with green beans and scalloped potatoes and his daughter had poached salmon with rice and green beans. The moussaka was very good- nice flavour profile with zucchini and eggplant and onions added to the ground lamb. The lamb was nicely pink and the salmon was perfectly done. The scalloped potatoes were prefect. Real butter and cream. For dessert we had creme brule and cassis sorbet. The sorbet was divine. I was too full to finish my dessert. I had a glass of Chardonnay at €3 The service was attentive and we got new cutlery with each course. This place a been a restaurant for a long time. Decor from previous tenants on the walls. We spent 4 days in Paris down on Rue Mouffetard. I found this place through Yelp and enjoyed it so much on night 1 that I had to bring my traveling partner there on night 3. She enjoyed it so much that we had to go back for more on night 4! I can tell you that everything on the menu is outstanding. Try the grated mussels or salmon with crabmeat dip on toast for starters. You won't be disappointed. The prices are excellent and you can get satiated for 20 Euros that includes a state, main course and desert. Nice ambiance and excellent wait staff. Acoustics are perfect and the place gets very busy after 7p most nights, but you don't feel crowded and definitely not rushed. read more

I wouldn't exactly label the cuisine here as traditional French. Au Petit Bistro is more like a Greek family restaurant with some classic French options. I enjoyed everything I ordered here: onion soup, warm goat cheese salad, eggplant beef moussaka, a steamed fish w/ rice dish, creme brulee, and greek yogurt with honey. There was live (Greek?) music and the host went around getting people clapping and middle-aged ladies dancing till 10 PM. read more

This is a bit late but reviewing my Parisian experience, I totally neglected to review this lovely place tucked into Rue Moffetard. Our friends are regulars here as they have the fortune of living down the street. The meal one of Paris' best deals especially if you select from the 3 or 4 course pre fixe menu. Service is very personable as it is husband wife team go out of their way to please guests. The food was very typical French bistro, well done and not overdone or overpriced. Lovely bistro serving perfect versions of classic dishes! And...very nice people at the helm. I was in Paris for a week and happened to eat here on my first night. The onion soup and confit de canard were great and they have half bottles of wine, convenient for solo diners like me. Three days later when I was with 9 colleagues looking for a place to dine, I suggested this place and everyone ordering a broad range of dishes was pleased. They even comped our table a third bottle of Bordeaux. On my last night, I tried to eat at a place that was 'reservations only' so I came back here and went for the more expensive menu, and it was well worth it. The fish soup (soupe de poisson) was so good that it should be illegal - such flavors can incite revolutions, and the shellfish sauce over the cod was equally compelling. They even entertained my intermediate French without switching to English immediately. Overall, if you want standard bistro dishes made with no nonsense excellence, or if you are new to Paris and trying to get the lay of the land, you really can't do better - bon appetite! read more

This is our most favorite restaurant on the quaint Rue Moufettard. During our one week long April trip to Paris, we found this little gem just up the street from where we stayed. We ate dinner there 4-5 times. The restaurant had a nice setting, and great food at very reasonable costs, fixed 3-course menu under 20 euro. We tried many of their appetizers, main courses and dessert, and all of them were tasty. The owner and wait staff were extremely welcoming, kind and efficient. They welcome you with smiles, kindness and generosity. We are going back to Paris again in Jan. 2018. We can't wait to go back there and start our new year in Paris! read more

Very good restaurant with a perfect assortment of French food, you can even get a taste of the escargot! The meals here are offered at a good price (for Paris at least) for what you are getting and are served with delicious sides. It also has a great atmosphere with ample seating for big groups. Amazing place. Went in just before their 2pm break on a October weekday. Owner gladly admitted us despite it being only minutes to closing. Found the place cozy, clean, elegantly decorated, and housed surprisingly many seats for the little place. Set menus ranged from 12 to 17 euros, extremely well-priced for the quality. Ordered steak, confit duck, and boeuf bourguignon (being the tourists that we are) alongside of mussels gratin and onion soup. Everything was rich and flavorful, some of the best we've had, especially in that price range. Even the steak was cooked to our liking, which was rare during our trip there. The owner spoke good English, was extremely friendly, and waited our table even cooked some of our meals (his usual staff probably left due to the afternoon break). We visited this place on our last night in paris and truly recommend for great french food. I enjoyed the French onion soup and duck confit which was perfect. My partner had the duck salad and steak with peppercorn sauce which went down a treat. No complaints! They also served great Bordeaux red and good service all round. What a hidden gem! You really can't beat their fixed price menu. You get out of here spending about 30€for two people with gracious portions(appetizer, main, and dessert!). We were stuffed at the end of the meal and pleasantly surprised. My fiancé and I got the goat cheese salad, beef bourgenoise, creme brulee, moussaka(not French but I love it), vegetable soup, and cottage cheese with honey. The starters were great- soup was perfectly seasoned and super healthy, and the goat cheese crostini was perfect- we didn't really care for the salad portion. The mains- his beef was super tender and flavorful and the moussaka was the best I have ever had. It didn't look like the traditional moussaka but I preferred it because it was much healthier:) Desserts were decent too but we were tsp full that we only had a bite. Service- perfect! This place is a good bang for your buck when on Rue Mouffetard. They offer their menu of the day which includes an appetizer, entree, and dessert. Wine by the glass starts at 3.50€-9€. They also offer an option for a quarter of a bottle of their house wine for 5€. I enjoyed the carpaccio which included tomatoes, a sheep's cheese, basil and olive oil. For my entree I had the flank steak with a potatoe and green beans. For dessert I had the flan. The flan was just ok, but the other items were abaolutely delicious. I love this place, the food and decor. The 13 euros menu is my favourite. Specially the chicken in mushroom sauce! It's cheap and delicious! However the waiters are EXTREMELY slow. I went there four times and EVERY SINGLE TIME had to wait around 20 minutes for them to bring the bill. read more

This place was incredibly awful!! Avoid at ALL costs!! My wife and I were strolling through the 5 e, looking for a decent place to eat dinner because we didnt make reservations at a good restaurant. So we were walking down Mouffetard and happened on this place. We should have known better than to walk in when we were greeted by a man in gross tennis shoes, jeans, and a knock-off Polo brand shirt. We were very hungry so we reluctantly said yes. We each decided to go with the 3 course dinner for 19,50 euros/each. My first course was avocado with shrimp and salad. The avocado was good, as was the salad, but how can someone mess up avocado and lettuce?? the shrimp in the dish was horrific!!!! It was tiny salad shrimp (aka krill) and tasted almost rotten. I left the entire portion of the "shrimp" because it was inedible. One server came to pick up my plate and asked me if I didn't finish for some reason. I politely responded that "It wasn't good. It was bad." She then asked me what was bad, and I told her the shrimp was very, very small and had a bad flavor. She proceeded to get offended and huffed and walked off angrily. My main course was Steak Au Poivre...needless to say, this dish was highly unappealing as well. The steak was overdone and the gravy tasted like it was from a grocery store packet. My dessert was crepe with vanilla ice cream. The was decent, the crepe was rubber and I could only eat half of it. The servers seemed insincere and condescending because we were Americans. My suggestion is AVOID THIS TOURIST TRAP!!!!!! I would not feed this food to my dog. read more

I guess my husband and I have been spoiled in our travels around France (outside of Paris). We heard there were no bad meals on Mouffetard but neither of us were impressed by this place. Should have known since the menu was in English and had too large of a selection. Wish we'd just gotten a crepe or gone to the Greek restaurant a couple doors up. I got fish with high hopes for the caper butter sauce but it really had no sauce. My husband's lamb dish wasn't as good as other restaurants. Very few wine options by the glass and other wines didn't list the wineries, only the region. Granted, this place was cheaper, but you get what you pay for. The staff are very nice and the atmosphere is fine, but the food is subpar. My wife's onion soup was good, but the "prawns" in my entrée of prawns and avocado were just bits of shrimp drowning in something like thousand island dressing (like, you'd expect this from Denny's). My pork ribs were both too fatty and too dry (although the spiced honey flavoring was good), and my wife's skate was stringy and tough. The green beans were limp and not too flavorful; they truly might have come from a can. However, my potatoes (an au gratin, basically) were quite good. Since we left so much food on our plates, they offered to bring us a cheese plate, which was a nice gesture that we refused (we were tired of the experience by then), but they brought the cheese plate anyway (which could be blamed on a translation issue). Dessert wasn't great, either. The creme brulée was cold and a little bland. Very disappointing. read more
