Rounding up from a 3.5 I think people get sucked in here because it's a very cute and aesthetic shop with matcha and plants and all around good vibes. The seating is very limited though, so you probably have to take your drinks to the park to enjoy. I got the matcha with ube and I was honestly quite disappointed. It didn't taste very strong and almost felt watered down. Like something I could make at home but not in a good way. That alone would be 3 stars, but I'm giving a 0.5 star because they offered me a punch card and punched it 3 times for my other 2 friends with me who purchased items but did not get a punch card. This place specializes in matcha and other variations, including soft serve, so it is not necessarily a boba shop in itself but they do have boba add-ons etc. Most of my friends are regulars here so I would assume it is very good, and I had this bookmarked for a while. I got the pineapple matcha latte which has pineapple puree, with boba. That came out over $7 for the drink, so I was expecting something amazing like other boba shops of similar price points. I did not like that the pineapple puree was powdery in texture. 100% sugar is actually a respectable amount of sugar, compared to other places where I had to get it half sweet or less. There is also way too much pineapple puree and barely any matcha which was what I wanted a good balance for. Boba is also on the softer / mushier side so I did not quite enjoy that. Overall, the drink itself was a bit underwhelming, especially given the hype. The small amount of matcha, though, was very solid, so I would wish they would give a better distribution, like other pictures I see here - hopefully this is just an off day. read more

Their matcha is so good and I also tried my sister's drinks. For their milk tea drinks, their alternative milk swaps are free which is nice though for their matcha drinks, the milk options are $1. Their crystal boba is soooo good! Would definitely recommend their dirty matcha drink. Randomly stubbled upon this cute place on a walk! What initially attracted me was the pretty wallpaper and then I saw someone with bubble tea... and I suddenly got the biggest craving for some good 'ol boba! Stepped inside and was really intrigued by the drink menu, all of the drinks were pretty unique! Grape Oolong Cheese Tea...Peach Jasmine Cheese Tea... ... and more! I was visiting a friend in the area, and I was walking around town one night looking for a boba place, I stumbled across Atulea. It looked really cute from the outside and it wasn't busy, so I went in. I asked the guy working what drink he would suggest and he suggested a Hojicha, so I got that lightly sweetened w/almond milk and boba. It was so good. I am normally such a fan of this place and go here frequently, but today's experience left a sour taste in my mouth. I am very unimpressed with the customer service I and my group received earlier. I brought a large group of my students here so I could show them "my favorite boba spot". With 12 students ordering very similar drinks, we did end up having an error (on our end). Long story short, after kindly approaching one of the staff members and saying that there might've been a misunderstanding about one of the drink orders, the manager/owner very haughtily and defensively came in and said, "No. I was standing right here and I clearly heard them say that they wanted mixed boba. It was a guy." We ended up figuring out that it was one of my students that mistakenly picked up a drink that belonged to one of my other students. Instead of graciously understanding their honest mistake and making a new drink for my last student that was left drinkless due to his mistake, she came at me, very passive aggressively, telling me to write down the correct drink and then stated, "we'll get to it later." I'm standing there like ???? Who hurt you?? We just gave you almost $100 worth of business, the entire group is being very polite, and my student also realized and took ownership of their mistake and apologized. I went up to the staff member at the register and told them that I would like to pay for the new drink. She was so nice the whole time, and at this point she turns to the manager/owner to see if they should charge us, because clearly she knows in this moment that they could've been kind and gracious and just let it be, especially since I had just paid for $90+ worth of drinks, but she said yes to go ahead and charge us. Every single other boba shop I frequent have much better customer service and would've been like "no worries! We'll just make you a new one!" and that's just with one single drink on the order! A better/kinder business owner would've handled this differently, with more understanding and grace. She should really learn from her cute cashier--so kind, patient, and sweet the whole time. read more

Every time I've tried Atulea it just doesn't taste the way I want it too. The drinks win the visual contest but I can't say much more. They have an impressive menu where it makes me want to try everything--and I haven't tried everything... but even their most popular items just was okay. The issue is that the drinks taste watery? And there's always a weird grainy taste I have in my mouth every time I get a drink from Atulea. New FAVE cafe! I've been getting more and more into matcha and it's all thanks to Atulea! The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable - especially Hannah! She explained to me all of the different menu items, including their cheese teas, types of tea leaves and dairy-free alternatives. My current favorites include the pineapple matcha, genmaicha hot chocolate and pumpkin spice matcha latte! If you're not a matcha fan, don't worry! They have other tea options, including jasmine and black tea. They've recently started selling merchandise! I plan on picking up these ceremonial matcha powder and whisk next time I'm in. I love matcha lattes like no other and I'm so glad Seattle has a matcha cafe (other than chains like Matcha Cafe Maiko or Nana's Green tea). This place is super adorbs with its cute instagram-worthy decor and it such a chill place to sip your matcha with your girls. It's quite small with a few seating, but their bench seating allows you to cram together with your party. There was only one worker there when my friends and I visited. Wish I got his name because he was so friendly and made our orders so quickly. I ordered the pineapple matcha latte, which sounds super weird, but it was amazingly delicious! Which were 3/5. I liked my milk tea because it's made fresh by order but to be honest, there is not alot of flavors and pretty plain. Gotta at double the sugar syrup in there. The matcha with white mocha was okay, nothing really special about it. But the taste was off and my wife couldn't even drink it because it tasted so weird. I will still give them 4 stars because this is such a cool addition to the Capitol Hill area! And I can tell Atulea uses high quality matcha powder by the color. They are pretty generous on the matcha powder portion as well! Plus, they do have some cool looking spot for Instagram purpose! I am very disappointed with this place. Our first time was amazing. I was dreaming of the Rose Lychee milk tea. .. this time we show up 2.5 hours before closing and they are out of boba... I get the drink i was craving but without boba and my son gets the Banana Mango... I thought at least they would make the drinks decent since they are out of boba that we wanted... Those were the absolute worst milk teas we have ever had. I almost cried. Did i just drive 45 minutes for this????? The most watered down, awful tasting drinks ever!!!! If this was my first time there and I had nothing to compare to then would be a different story. But I had this drink before. Either they used fat-free milk or watered it down to something gross. We walked out and threw away our drinks.. I did not just spend over $9 and the gas from Auburn to Seattle to throw this away. If you are out of tea also, just tell people , dont get them to spend their hard-earned money on watered down drinks.. I am so disappointed. 6/21/2019- I want to say that this business handled this issue very professionally and refunded my money. I was really excited when I discovered this cafe has cheese tea! I've tried many cheese tea's around Seattle and this is one of my favorites!
