After having a beer at the Goosetown Tavern, I had a fantastic anchovie slice of pizza here. I commend any place that puts fish on pizza, and am always overjoyed to find anchovies on a pizza menu. Cheap, salted bony fish is not something most people would want on their food, but I really enjoyed it. Especially great was that you can order it right from a street side window, and can eat it on a little patio outside overlooking the street. What could be better? read more

An amazing breakfast spot with phenomenal service. We heard so much about Atomic Cowboy on our last trip out, we were happy we got the opportunity to try it this trip! Our server, Leslie, had great suggestions and we were able to try a decent amount given the size of the biscuits! We started with the Schooner, which was catfish, slaw, and housemade tartar. It was delicious on a biscuit and wasn't overly messy. We both got a breakfast cocktail, mine was a smoky Bloody Mary with bacon and a beer chaser, while my friends was a Irish Iced Coffee. With the Schooner being a decent size and the Bloody Mary feeling like meal itself, we only managed to order the biscuits and vegetarian gravy. The vegetarian gravy is mushroom based and was so delicious. They also have vegan/vegetarian sausage patties you can substitute in your biscuits or even the burger on the menu. I stopped in for happy hour before the March Secret Supper at the other end of the block. Happy hour is from 4pm to 7pm. They had $3 slices and 1/2 price beer, wine and well drinks. My gin and tonic was okay, and was of a decent size. My cider was bit warm for my taste, but was filled to the brim. The bartender was friendly and attentive. The decor was fun. The barstools were unusually comfortable. One complaint, the ID gauntlet I had to run to get inside seemed excessive for 6pm on a Tuesday. They scanned my driver's license (something that always feels like and invasion of privacy to me). They then stamped my hand with a 2 inch by 2 inch block lettered "AC" in black ink. Removing this stamp the next morning took enough scrubbing that my hand felt a bit raw. I understand that they are paranoid about the lovely liquor enforcement officers setting them up for a massive fine . . . something that always seems more punitive and revenue gathering than actual public safety in my mind. Not a great burger. Some fancy ass chef decided that SWEET pickles are better. Me and my friend both had to remove them after noticing a dominating sweet flavor. Fat Sully's - My husband and I had been waiting for this, we first tried a couple local beers and had to get our hands on a slice, can we call it a slice? Hmmm a piece of pie that big should have a special name. Anyway not are they huge but it was the best thin crust pizza I have had, great flavour and crust. I wish I hadn't been so full after one! Super cool and friendly staff and fast service. Denver Biscuit Company- We landed on Thursday, had pizza that night and yes we came back Friday morning for biscuits. My husband had the Franklin and I had The Dahlia, ok now the Dahlia is good,but there is no comparison to the goodness of The Franklin. I would get that or another Biscuit like that next time. If you're looking for Vegan options, steer clear. They say they are all inclusive but that's a load. You can get the gluten free pizza without cheese (which takes minimum 45 minutes) or the huge pizza without cheese... when there's 2 of you that makes 0 sense. What started out as trying a new pizza place near home turned into a nightmare. The waitress made us feel bad about needing something without cheese because my friend is vegan. That's not exactly something she can just compromise on but the waitress made us feel option-less. So, we waited 45 minutes for a gluten free crunchy crust pizza when we came here for their 'famous' large slices. Won't be back. Pizza was not worth the wait and was pretty flavorless. Could be that it was the gluten free crust, but the ingredients were also sub par at best. I am not vegan, but my friend was. We got the gluten free pizza to share because she wouldn't be able to eat it alone. My half had cheese. We compromised so we wouldn't be stuck waiting for her pizza for 45 minutes while I ate. Living in City Park, Fat Sully's is our go-to late night slice option. Slices are massive and I can't even imagine attempting to have more than one slice. Basically you pay for your slice and pick out your toppings. And there's plenty to choose from; lottsa veggies, meats, and sauces. Always cooked crispy too! The Atomic Cowboy is a combination of three things: a bar, Fat Sully's Pizza, and the Denver Biscuit Company. The space isn't very large, but they do offer board games, although I'm not quite sure where you would have the space to play. Unfortunately, not everything is offered all the time. My first visit was late at night, and I wanted a biscuit sandwich. Unfortunately, those are only served earlier in the day, so I had to settle for pizza. I did eventually get my biscuit for breakfast on the last day of my trip, so it all turned out well. Pricing is fair and the food is good, so stop by. read more

Hands down, the best food place I went to on my visit to Denver. They estimated our wait time to be 60-75 minutes on a Sunday afternoon but we were seated in 45 minutes. The food was definitely worth the wait! Their biscuit sandwiches are to die for. We got The Franklin which was a biscuit with buttered fried chicken with bacon and cheddar and smothered in gravy and WOW it was very delicious and filling. Just looking at the scrumptious gravy oozing from the sandwich before you take your first bite is already mouthwatering enough. Most of their biscuit sandwiches were a tad under $10 too so you really get a great value for these. They also have New York style pizza there which was freaking delicious as well! Ended up getting a slice of the Pepperoni and Italian Sausage and they were both winners. The slices are humongous and at $3.50 a pop, you are getting way more than you pay for. Their NY style pizza is up among the very best I've ever had. This place seems like its always super packed so I wouldn't come here if you are starving. But if you can stand a little wait, you will get an amazing meal. Once you're in and order, the food comes out pretty fast too so there's not really an additional wait. (3.5 stars) The Atomic Cowboy blends a fun, funky atmosphere with solid food and a few noted idiosyncrasies, some good, some not. It was jam packed at the time of our arrival, and rather than hand us a pager, The Atomic Cowboy sent me a text when our table was ready (good idiosyncrasy). Once inside, we found that the menu reflects the dual branding. One side is pizzas (by the slice or pie) and salads; the other is biscuit sandwiches, biscuit platters, and sides. Though The Atomic Cowboy is presumably run as one business, the food actually comes from two different kitchens, so if people at your table order from different sides of the menu, you won't get everything at the same time (bad idiosyncrasy). The service also lagged a bit due to the volume at the time of our visit, but I've experienced far worse. As far as the food is concerned, the pizza slices are huge, and the toppings fresh. I opted for a shrimp and grits biscuit platter, however, and was not disappointed. The shrimp and pancetta were plentiful, and the biscuit added a nice textural contrast. The pricing here is hard to pin down. The $10.95 I paid for my shrimp and grits was reasonable, filling as it was. However, pizza starts at $3.50 a slice, with 45 or 65 cents for each topping (depending on the topping). This can easily put you at $5 a slice, which would be outrageous if the slices weren't as big as your head. The Atomic Cowboy is an interesting concept and worth a visit if you have the time to spare. But if you're starving or sporting a headache when you walk in, this place will wear you out fast. read more

I never make it in for the biscuits, unfortunately - so I am still waiting to try the Denver Biscuit side of the operations ... Fat Sully's pizza, however, I have had several times and it never disappoints. For me, the star is the crust - it is a nice chewiness and never fails to be baked to perfection for my tastes. The toppings are also just right - not too little/not too much. Extremely generous slices that I end up taking 1/2 home for the next day, can't beat that! Parisi was where we were going for my birthday but the line was too long. Zero line at Atomic Cowboy. We ordered pizza and a beer. something gnarly was on the glass so I didn't drink it and the slice was bigger that the paper plate so the server kinda dragged the food across the table. Then I had to go hunting for silverware and napkins and finally got it from the bartender who was helpful once her conversation reached a convenient stopping point. The menu is much better than a basic bar menu, and some of the dishes are named after the owner's Beagles! How can you not love a place that does that?! I absolutely love the garlic fries and the mini cheeseburgers. The thing that brought me in the first time was the art work. The original, large, unusual paintings are fantastic! The deco boomerang light fixture is beautiful. Even the funky leather belts on the bathroom doors are great! I love everything about the decor of this place - very well done. What has me coming back, even though sometimes it can be a bit too packed full of loud chads, is the friendly staff, the board games, and the old school hockey game. The energy in this place is awesome. But who really gives a crap about that when you are serving 26" pies. Pizza is number one priority. We drove all the way across town for this place after seeing it on Diners, Driveins and Dives. And it was damn worth it. The pizza is spectacular you can tell the crust is homemade and hand tossed. It is worthy of the New York name. And the place was packed with fun people playing pool and being pleasant. Which for East Colfax, can be a challenge. They also don't gauge you on the prices for the drinks and pie, which is super appreciated since in January I'll be paying for half the nation's healthcare. The only reason they don't get the 5th star is because I'm from Austin, Home of Home Slice, which is inarguably, the best pizza outside of the O.G.s in NY, NY. This is our go-to place for brunch after a 5K in City Park. The biscuit sandwiches are fantastic. I especially love the one covered in country gravy, yum! Pair that with a cold brew and that's what I call breakfast ;) It's great to be able to walk here from City Park, since parking on Colfax can be a bit challenging. This place just has a great, laid back atmosphere. We never get any funny looks for showing up in our running/walking gear.
